I will go there to have my hair cut and colored. I will blindly trust someone else... I booked, I went. I started with Jenna, and now Jenna is my "person": fun and bubbly, full of energy, always with new hair that I envy - I want her living with me so that she gives me a fierce blowout everyday, and gently combs my hair goodnight. Too much? She takes her time, even when she's busy, has the best recommendations, cares for my hair, and genuinely knows her craft. I have always felt #1 priority in her chair. She has a magic touch with my strands. Jenna is my favorite stylist ever and she must never leave. The salon prices are reasonable. I have long-ish hair. My best friend introduced me to her, and when I wear my hair in protective crochet braids, I go to Maplewood from Queens, because she is that good. I don't go to hairdressers unless they are recommended to me. Grace is punctual, braids exceptionally neat, and wants to make sure you have an exemplary head of braids when you leave her chair because she knows that her customer's satisfaction and how their style looks and lasts is the best way to advertise. She also takes pride in her shop being neat and comfortable for her clientel as well. Grace may seem a little serious when you first meet her. That's because she is about business and knows what her talent is worth. Once you get to know her and you become a trusted customer you will see that she is a warm person who cares about your satisfaction. If you have a valid issue with her work, she always makes it right. Issues are far and few between because she is a perfectionist. She will also listen and be honest as to whether your hair can work for a particular style. You can also let her know how tender-headed you are and she will work with you.

I showed a picture of exactly what I wanted. Instead, Kevin chose not to soak off my acrylic, he filed down with the machine and rushed through the process, leaving my nails uneven with leftover acrylic still on them. On top of that, he cut my nails short and rounded them without ever asking me, this was not what I requested at all. When I politely asked if he could reshape them, his attitude immediately changed. He became rude and dismissive and then said, "I'm done here," refusing to continue the service. I was left with nails I didn't ask for and had to leave feeling completely unheard and dissatisfied. After my husband's comments, the opinions of many friends & umpteen years of gel manicures I wholeheartedly concluded it was indeed so wretched that a full refund was warranted. Please view images I posted of the $60.00 gel manicure which chipped after 2 days. Kevin said he would refund my money & when I swung by the salon I was met by June who glared at me then practically threw the cash refund at me. I was surprised they so readily agreed to refund my money...., could it be because they knew damn well what a horrid job they both did & realized I wasn't going to allow them to get away with it. As I was putting my money into my wallet, predictably my gel mani chipped & ironically it was the nail of my middle finger which chipped first!! Armed with my refund I could only smile ruefully as I promptly spent it on a proper, painless & perfect gel pedi in the salon next door called Ambrosie. She asked me what my daily hair routine was like and she gave me suggestions about hair styles. At the beginning of my appointment, I told her that I walked over to the salon after dropping off my car for an oil change. When I finished, she told me if my car wasn't done, I could stay and hang out with her. Maritza was so sweet. I would highly recommend her and the salon. Just a heads up, they don't allow tips to be added to a card. Make sure you bring cash.

My stylist, Alicia Coleman, barely spoke to me before immediately taking me to wash my hair. I actually had to stop her so I could show her the reference photo. She gave it a quick glance, said, "I got you," and that was the extent of the consultation. As she styled my hair, she kept turning my chair away from the mirror so I couldn't see what she was doing. Every time I tried to look, she turned the chair even farther away. I found it very odd because I wasn't able to see the styling process or offer any feedback. Had I been able to watch, I could have pointed out that it wasn't going in the direction I wanted before she finished. When she finally turned me around for the "big reveal," I was shocked. It looked nothing like my inspiration photo. She had curled all of my hair toward my face instead of away from it, and the style was completely different from what I had requested. I wanted a side part with hair softly covering part of my forehead. When I asked if she could fix it, she told me I had too much breakage to achieve that look. I was already running late and didn't have time to stay, so I left extremely disappointed. When I got home, I had to completely wet my hair, blow-dry it all over again, and curl it myself from scratch. I was able to recreate the look I originally asked for with no problem. Paying $50 for a blowout that I had to completely redo myself was a total waste of money. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.
