What a little gem of a salon. Believe me, I had my hesitations coming here; I had no previous recommendations, never heard of this place before - I basically closed my eyes and pointed blindly on a map - THERE! I will go there to have my hair cut and colored. I will blindly trust someone else... I booked, I went. I started with Jenna, and now Jenna is my "person": fun and bubbly, full of energy, always with new hair that I envy - I want her living with me so that she gives me a fierce blowout everyday, and gently combs my hair goodnight. Too much? She takes her time, even when she's busy, has the best recommendations, cares for my hair, and genuinely knows her craft. I have always felt #1 priority in her chair. She has a magic touch with my strands. Jenna is my favorite stylist ever and she must never leave. The salon prices are reasonable. I have long-ish hair. Full head of highlights + gloss + cut is about $235 (w/ Jenna). read more

Jenna does AMAAAAAAAZING color. Couldn't be happier, she did exactly what I asked and it grew in super naturally. Giving 4 stars bc the wifi/cell service (even using data) is so bad that it's basically unusable, which is normally not a huge deal, but tough when you have a big head of hair and your appointments last 2+ hours (no fault of the stylists, obviously). Would give 4.5 stars if I could, bc this isn't the stylists fault - just wish they could fix it! read more

Love my salon! Katie is super talented and, as a bonus, really fun to hang out with! My color looks great and very natural, and she always listens to me re: what I'm looking for and gives me a great cut every time. Can't say enough good things! Erica's color work on my hair was nothing short of perfection. She managed to translate my hopes -- hide the greys; maintain some of the highlights -- into the most beautiful result. And, perhaps the best part: it looks really expensive but was quite the opposite! I previously have had my hair done at the Bumble & Bumble mothership in Manhattan -- to very mixed results for a very high price. So glad I found something much better (and more reasonably priced) closer to home! read more

I've been going to Fringe for about ten years. I love the vibe, it's relaxed, not uptight, the salon is clean. They've just undergone a little update so the interior feels fresh. I'm pretty minimal with my hair--just change up the cuts--and Kim is always creative and works with my hair's texture so it's never high maintenance--that just wouldn't work for me. I always schedule my next haircut in advance and between the two of us we've only needed to reschedule once or twice in all this time. I'm a very happy client, and Kim and the team deserve the high praise. read more

Lovely, welcoming place. I booked an appointment based on online reviews. I was greeted by a very friendly woman at the front. Everyone seemed genuine and sweet. My appointment was with Donna, who was warm and knowledgeable. I wasn't sure what I wanted, but we talked it through and she did a fabulous job. It started with a short but wonderfully relaxing scalp massage and even though I was only there for 40 mins or so, it felt like I had a day at the spa. Really wonderful place and I will definitely return. The only thing I didn't like is that you have to pre-pay online. Not sure if this is the norm now, but i've never had to do that anywhere else. I live in Hoboken and got tired of paying its insane salon prices. I wanted an Aveda salon though so I went through the Aveda website and found Fringe. I needed highlights and a cut. The colorist was amazing and did exactly what I asked for and the Aveda color didn't fry my hair. She also didn't try to sell other services or products which was refreshing. I have curly hair which can be unruly and the stylist who cut it did an incredible job as well. Once again she listened to me and executed exactly what I asked for. The prices were very reasonable, they have convenient hours, and the salon is quiet and well taken care of. read more

My first time trying the salon, Gina did my cut and color. I looked great when I walked out, but for me, the true test is two weeks down the road, as my thick, wavy hair quickly grows out of control! All I can say is WOW - I looked like I had just had my hair cut two weeks later. It has been easy to style and looks amazing, even when I don't blow dry it. Had my first cut and color in a year here a few days ago. My stylist; Mag was very friendly, and did a great job on someone who had given up all hope on ever finding "the one" again. Blonde highlights...very particular. The salon is small, intimate feeling, and the other stylists and clients all seemed relaxed and familiar. No pretense and all Aveda products. A great touch: The "On-Demand" menu that teased me as I processed. (Mini facials, massages, services) that fit perfectly into my sitting time. Wow, I love efficiency. Monica has lots of experience and provided some good suggestions to improve my look and help me not look as old based on how she shaped my eyebrows. Thought it was a good job. After my last appointment I felt I as if I had been pranked! I was unable to keep an appt. and rescheduled for a week later. When I arrived I was given to another stylist without any explanation and when I questioned the front person I was told I had been booked with someone else in error. I didn't complain and had my process done. My hair was completely lifeless and extremely dry the next day. I don't know if the color wasn't mixed correctly or if the appropriate product was not applied when the color was rinsed out. I am really sad and disappointed and will not be going back. read more

I've been to Fringe twice, and this review is mostly based on my second visit. Because I am a stay-at-home-mom, what free time I have is very limited. When I realized that I would have a few child-free hours, I went online to schedule based solely on the time. I didn't care about getting a junior stylist since I figured, as an Aveda salon, all the stylists would have the basics down- especially since I just wanted to "clean up" the cut originally done by a senior stylist there- a funky pixie style w/ a buzzed undercut. Apparently I was wrong. When I arrived and told the Jr. stylist that I wanted my buzzed undercut cleaned up, she told me that she does not use clippers. This alone was surprising and disappointing, but then she made it seem like it was my fault by saying, "didn't you read my profile?" Mind you, her profile isn't on the website. She also said that I should have called in and discussed my needs with the receptionist, who would have directed me to the correct stylist. For a buzz cut?? I hate to sound like a NYC hair snob, but I've never had to make sure that a stylist knows how to use clippers before. That's something that even the $5 places can do! So in spite of the fact that I had a good experience my first time around, this second visit has left me with no desire to ever return. And on a sidenote, the online booking software they use is terrible. read more

I made an appointment for a cut and botanical therapy treatment. I chose Fringe since it was an Aveda concept salon and had good Yelp reviews. I booked with Katie since she had availability during the date and time that I needed. I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and taken back to put on a cape. She asked if I wanted water or coffee. My appointment started on time and Katie was awesome! She listened to me and cut my hair exactly how I described. She also styled my hair exactly like the photo I showed her from the Drybar website. The salon itself is a bit small but adequate for the number of stylists working. I would recommend parking on the street outside of the salon or in one of the public parking lots near the salon. The cost of my services was well worth the value I received. The services were definitely in-line with pricier salons (such as Depasquale) and significantly less expensive. read more

It was a little challenging to get an appointment that wasn't weeks away but it was worth the wait. Angela did my color and it is better than what I wanted! Kim squeezed me in for a cut and listened carefully to my wishes and advised based on my lifestyle and willingness (or lack thereof) to style it. My hair was damaged and they did heavily recommend their Aveda products. I'm not usually swayed into purchasing the stuff they push on you at salons/spas but my hair was super damaged so I bought one of the products Angela recommended and it's actually been great for my hair so I'm glad I got it. I will definitely be going back. I was a bit snobby about a Jersey hair salon as I moved here from NYC but the owner really knows her stuff and has clearly hired awesome stylists. Christina knows how to cut hair. She delivers a perfect cut time after time that grows in a way where I am able to go 3-4 months without a cut. Plenty of men go to barber shops to have their hair done but if you are a guy who prefers a stylist, Christina is your woman and Fringe is your place. read more

great Aveda concept salon~always get a great cut and color here. Owner is booked 3 months ahead and seems a little distracted and disengaged. But all her stylists seem equally capable and talented so you won't go wrong. Be mindful of your personal space: everyone here seems to know everyone else in this town so you might feel like your personal pampering session just turn into an episode of Cheers or Friends. I don't personally care for that, especially when I'm paying for time and trying to get beautiful, but they seem to run it pretty casual like that. read more
