I was looking for a decent course fairly close to the city and came across President's online. I made a reservation online with my cc for the twilight special they had going on. When we got there they refused to honor the twilight fee because I did not print out my receipt and we were charged the full weekend price. The guy was rude and actually seemed like he didn't even want us to play. We asked if we could also rent a cart and they said yes but we could only have it for nine holes since they don't allow people to have carts during twilight hours for the full 18 holes. Funny, because when we were finishing up the 16th hole I still saw quite a few carts out on the course. The course is in fair condition. The holes were cramped and the layout didn't make sense in many places. The course was so crowded, which led to waiting 10 or 15 minutes between each hole. You feel a little vulnerable the entire time because balls are constantly being hit in adjacent fairways. I will not go back and the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because it is close to the city. In my opinion, it's well worth driving an extra 15 minutes out of the city to pay the same price but get good service and a MUCH better course. read more

Just played this course for the first time last weekend. I only played the front nine so I can't comment on the back. Despite what I have heard from my friends who have played here, I really like this course and did not think it was as difficult as everyone says. Yes, there are a bunch of blind shots, but they line the tee box up for you so you know which direction you are supposed to hit the ball. So as long as you hit it straight - you're good. I played the best nine holes here that I ever played. So maybe I am biased? Also, they do have a beer stand set up which is always a perk. read more

First time playing this course. We often play some very fine courses so when I say this was an AMAZING surprise it is in comparison to a Granite Links/Charles River kind of experience. We had low expectations and found the layout surprisingly fun. The fairways were good, the tee boxes were pretty good and the greens, while relatively slow, were also in surprisingly good, very consistent, condition. The best part was the layout; big elevation changes and a fair number of blind shots (not horribly difficult but often challenging my group of 10-14 handicappers). You will HATE this course if you walk it and you're over 30 years old. You probably won't like it if your handicap is over 18 or so and you aren't comfortable with a fair amount of blind shots and intimidating LOOKING shots. A cart will allow you to drive up and check some of the blind shots. Having your own GPS unit is a big help as well (all of us had one on hand). We had a blast on this muni mainly because it was very interesting, though short, layout (we played it from the back/black 5,700 yd tees), we weren't expecting the greens to be pristine or run at a 10 on the stemp meter and we took carts. The people were great. But it is a muni and some parts are "rough" though I'd say a fair number of holes here are as much fun and as well laid out, as any I play in the area. In my opinion its closer to a 4 star than a 3 but that depends on your expectations and skills. You like a fun layout? Its a 4. You're picky? Its a 3. read more

I grew up playing Presidents and the only reason I keep going back is because it's a 5 minute drive from my house. Otherwise this course is a total wreck. Everyone says the greens are fast and difficult, they may be very undulating but they're certainly not fast, they're average public course speed at best. The grass, both on the fairway, in the rough, and around the greens is very inconsistent. You're ball could find a good lie but if it was three yards to the left or right it could be a different story. The one thing that I absolutely can't understand is how they haven't fixed the multiple tee boxes that aren't level. The 3rd tee box tilts a little bit to the right, and there's multiple other ones as well. The customer service is atrocious at Presidents. I've gotten in multiple arguments with the pro-shop staff. During aerating season they always fail to mention that they've aerated the greens when I call to make a tee time. So instead I have to discover this when I walk up to the practice green. If you think they'd give you a refund because of this or any other type of rain-check, you'd better think again. There's multiple other courses all over the South Shore and you'd be hard pressed to find one worse than Presidents GC. Go play Braintree Municipal GC, $40 for 18 holes including a cart before 10 AM on weekdays. Much better golf course (more challenging and in much much better condition. read more

Played Prez last week, 1st time ever. Got paired with two Boston Cops front nine and three young bombers on the back. Conditions were good, greens as fast as I've played. Above the hole you're dead. The layout has something to offer for everyone. No up and down bowling alleys here. Lots of elevation change, which is cool. You have to be aware on some holes of players on next fairway, as it gets tight. Remember, even if it's close always yell FORE... It's tight, but don't worry, you'll find the next tee...and as far as "oldtimers" ruling the course, well buddy you're heading there to...look forward to returning and seeing Paula on the bar. read more

The greens keeper likes to water the greens at about 12PM when the course is full and wrap his house around the entire green and then not move when your hitting into the green. Proceeded to a make a comment about why he didn't move and he was ready to fight me. Apparently this is a daily thing. They charge $70 it's worth about $5 for the conditions and the way they treat you. Better off playing a mini golf course. read more

This is a pretty good municipal. As of August, 2011 the course is in excellent shape and the greens are really nice. Also got a nice weekday special online, which gave me a $28 greens fee. On the basis of all the above items, this is easily a 3 star course, maybe a 3.5 star course. My criticisms would be in the layout, the front 9 especially is not terribly exciting and it has a lot of blind shots. It also does seem to be a bit dangerous as not much separates you from the other fairways, balls tend to fly all over the place, the holes are pretty close together. A course map would be nice, it isn't easy to find the next tee box in a lot of spots if you don't know where you are going. Also, there is no drinkable water on the course and the day I played I didn't see one person in a cart selling any either. The back 9 is a little longer and has some more interesting holes. The 15th especially, a long par 5 with a lot of water, is one that you need to have some local knowledge on. I wasn't sure how to play the hole and failed miserably. I'll play Presidents again, it's convenient to Boston and in good shape at the right price, all things considered it's worth going back. read more

I really hate Presidents. I recently revisited it and played all 18 again just to make sure my review was justified, and I remembered all the reasons I'd been avoiding it in the first place. Positives: The course is in decent shape. Grass is pretty even and mowed frequently enough. Bunkers are in pretty good shape, soft and sandy. The views are unremarkable but pleasant. Negatives: Layout!! I want to find the course designer here and discuss some of the various wacky, borderline retarded decisions that were made when putting this course together. I understand that there's a limited amount of space on which to build a golf course, I really do. Case in point, though, the 2nd hole. 100 yard par 3, straight ahead. Come on guys, is that the best you can do? Its like a chip and putt hole. There were a lot of par 3's that I hit wedge or knockdown wedge into. I wished I had a gap wedge in my bag. There are also a lot of places where its near impossible to find the next tee box, as there are limited signs and the layout is non-intuitive. End rant... Blind fairways. Maybe this is personal preference, but I like to see where I'm hitting to off the tee box. I would say 12 or 13 of the 18 holes have a blind tee shot, and you just get to discover where your ball ended up afterwards. This completely leads into the next point... Dangerous! If you got a discount for every fore yelled or golf ball hit at you from another tee box, this place would have to go out of business. Its got a few problems that add to this: it's crowded, it's pretty wide open, and the average handicap here must be pretty high. All these things lead to a vague feeling of danger in the middle of each fairway. Price: $52 with a cart during the week is asking way too much for a course that's not fun to play. There's also no 9 hole rate, but there is a twilight special of some sort. Anyway, look elsewhere for a place to play. Overall grade: C- You should really avoid this course if at all possible. You'll probably want your $50 back at the end of the day. read more

Very serviceable spot. Friendly staff. Well taken care of. Affordable rate. And, if you go online and register for their website, you get discounted rates the next time you go on a weekday, weekend, and (free!) on your birthday! For those who live in the city and are looking for somewhere to play that doesn't require owning a car, put Presidents on your list. You can take the Red Line to North Quincy and either have a 7/10ths of a mile walk OR a short cab ride. Plus, I've twice gone over as a single and joined up with pleasant people to play with. Overall, its certainly not as nice as a private course, but as far as municipal courses in the Boston area go, it's a great bet. read more

I can't recommend this place enough. The course itself is decent (can get pretty tight in some places, but well kept enough with some fun holes) and has some good views of the city. However, the staff here is incredible! Myself and a friend are still learning the game so we took the last tee time on a Sunday in the fall. Dana gave us a discounted rate, gave us a rundown of the whole course, and checked in with us when we got back to make sure we had a good time. I managed to get a flat tire on the way out and Dana was again so helpful! He gathered other patrons to try and help us change it and ended up using his triple A membership for us. He went so far as to recommend a good local mechanic (who was also amazing). 10/10 would go back just for the staff and regulars here, but will definitely be back to play again! read more

Can I go lower than one star? Did Dick's Last Resort recently take over management of golf courses?? Every time my friends and I play there we vow never to return. The course is run by old men who obviously wish it were a private course on a retirement facility in Florida. I hope they don't pay these guys. I recommend that before you make pay to play, you get to know the employees. We paid for 18 holes, but only allowed to play 9 because of maintenance on the back. I should mention that before we played/payed we asked if the back 9 would be ready, and we were assured it would be. On the turn however, it was not, which is fine. When we asked for a rain check or some other refund for the holes not played, an argument ensued ending with a gift certificate being issued for the remaining nine holes. Now we all agreed that the compensation was appreciated, but why would we want to go back?? DO NOT GO HERE..take the extra time to drive anywhere else. read more

Just played this course for the first time this past weekend, and was very impressed. I had seen it from 93 but had never played there. We played twilight, started around 5 PM and got 15 holes in for $33. There was NO ONE else on the course, it was like we had a private club. PROS Extremely friendly clubhouse attendant Greens roll true VERY interesting holes - dynamic, hilly, mix of lengths for the par-4s, some cool water hazards (particularly on 15) Non-penal rough Great sand traps - well-placed, deep but escapable, makes you think strategically Awesome view of Boston on several holes Lots of elevation changes (a personal preference of mine) Barely any straight holes - each shot needs to set up the next CONS No drinking water on the course Several blind shots - need to play a few times to get the feel for where to land it Greens are TOUGH - fast and extremely sloped, barely a straight putt to be had Par-3s tend to be extremely short (might be a pro for some, for me it got boring) Very windy up on top of the hill (which makes sense - still annoying though) Ranger starts taking out flags around 6:45 This last point was weird - we played the front 9 in about an hour and 45 minutes, and by the time we were done, the flags on the back 9 had been taken out. Made for an interesting back 9 - drivers and spare shafts were used as pins, and getting it close was a matter of luck. Which I guess isn't that different from normal. Anyway, I thought this course was extremely fun. I'm a fan of dynamic, interesting layouts like this, and I'll definitely return in the future. read more

If you're not over 65 and a member of the good ole boys club don't waste your time...you'll end up frustrated and pissed off. The last time I promised I would never go back but was reeled back in purely by the convenience of the location...big mistake. If you're not buddies with the 65 year old starters then you're a nuisance and they can't be bothered helping you out. The course itself is packed into a small space so watch your back while you're on the fairway. Overall it's a decent course but the staff and hospitality are a complete turnoff. Braintree Municipal is only 10 minutes further outside the city (Take 93, stay right at the split and get off at the South Shore Plaza exit), it's less expensive than Presidents, it's a much nicer course and they go out of their way to get you a tee time. Don't listen to the previous negative posters here. I've played Prez (colloquial) around 50-75 times. Here's the rundown: Did the Fazio's do everything that they could do to maximize the available space here? Obviously yes. Is this a fairly cheap course incredibly close to Boston with reasonable access on most days? Yes. Are the conditions well kept and consistently maintained? Yes. Are there quirks abound like the Old Man River ranger pulling the pins as soon as the sun starts setting every day?Frustratingly yes. Are the holes somewhat contrived? Well yeah what do you expect in a 5745 yard long joint?!?! Prez is a course that is really nothing special, but will offer tests that encompass every challenging aspect at every course that you will ever play: wind, downhill/uphill shots, blind shots, short shots, risk/reward, full bag play, cerebral play, and whatever else. Sure it's not for everyone, but tricked up or unfair it is not. Just a good little track with some fun holes to pass the day away. I'll keep playing... read more

Overall good course, be careful of balls flying everywhere in a few spots, maintained fairly well for a course that is run by Norfolk County especially when compared to adjacent park area that is also 'maintained" by Norfolk County, better views of Boston and area than Granite Links, course has a few very short fun holes but also some holes that are tougher than they look and will challenge you, good course to do after 4p/5p but for some reason no golf carts available in late afternoon/evening and as previous reviews said ranger starts taking the flags out early. read more

Presidents is not a good golf course. Most of the tee shots are blind, and if you stray from the fairway at all you will not find your ball. Ever. The rough is a disgrace. There is extremely poor signage, the layout is probably the most confusing I've ever experienced, and the map on the scorecard is next to useless. There are no yardage markers anywhere on the course. Add that to the fact that every hole has severe elevation changes and it is unreasonably difficult to choose a club. The par 3's are far too short, with a couple that are less than 100 yards. That's a pitch and putt hole, not a real golf hole. They do not offer a 9 hole rate, which is generally an indication of a track that doens't care about the customer. If the place had better signage, with yardage markers every 50 yards, and a half decent map it would still be a middle of the pack place, but it is priced much too high for what it is. Stay away. The only positive is an extremely good rate for juniors, but they will have to bring a bucket of balls to get around the full 18. read more

Good, tough course. If you're living in or very near Boston and want a course nearby, this is one of the better ones. While I don't completely agree with those who gave it such low reviews, I can see what they're talking about when they mention the chaos. Tee boxes very close to one another and holes are short and narrow (2nd hole is 115 yard par 3). Tee boxes on several holes criss-cross, so balls may be going everywhere at peak times. This course is always in great shape considering it's public and the amount of play it gets all year. While one might think because of the yardage that's it's an easy course to tackle- think again- most lies are uneven and you will find there are many challenges. Plus you have a fabulous view of Boston and it's skyline. I am a member of the Ladies President's League- which is very active , competitive and always looking to add more women who love the game of golf. And our league plays on Saturday and Sunday mornings! read more
