I looked up "brake specialists" and came upon Brake Masters in Citrus Heights, not far from my house. I didn't know if I would need new brakes but wanted to check and see and get them before they got worse. They did an inspection and I just needed my brake fluid flushed and a clean and adjust on my rear brakes. I was happy and relieved! They could have, like other places I've gone in the past, told me I needed new everything. Thanks for being honest. I also used their coupon for a full synthetic oil change. Since I didn't have alternate transportation, I opted to wait while they serviced my car. They let me know that it's getting close to time for brake pads, and I needed an alignment. I made an appt dropped vehicle off it sat in parking lot all day. At 3:15 we get a call saying AC has a leak. Remedy is to charge it, add dye & drive it until all AC charge is gone then bring it back. I was told it might take 2 or 3 times doing this at $300 a pop to find the leak BUT Brian will work with us on the price I refused & was told "this is how its done good luck finding anyone who does it differently. The person who picked up vehicle was made to wait 45 minutes & told the same thing. I took my vehicle to another shop with real mechanics & they fixed AC in the SAME day. It was less than brake masters $300 dollars! Brian is horribly rude & condescending. The other shop said the AC was an easy fix & someone was just being lazy. Disappointed. I originally came here for regular oil change and the Clerck offered me "free alignment check". I had an alignment done in November/2023 and so far I only drove 1800 miles with my new tires, but I decided to accept the offer and check the alignment. So after they finished checking the alignment they present me with the chart (see photo) showing that I need alignment done. Each photo will show BEFORE ALIGNMENT and CURRENT ALIGNMENT. What that means is: A Before measurement is pre-adjustment reading, that show the vehicle's wheel alignment before any corrections have been made. A Current Measurement is the post-adjustment reading, will show the vehicle's wheel alignment AFTER any corrections have been made. IF you see the picture: my before measurement from Brake master is the same as my Current measurement from American Tire where I had an alignment done back in November 23 If NO ADJUSTMENT was made at Break Master, then my BEFORE and CURRENT chart graphic from Brake master should show the same result. I called Brake Master (Citrus Heights) to complaint with the manager and he said I was reading the chart wrong. So I decided to call American Tires, Les schwab and Brake Master (Roseville) and they all confirmed that If I had NO adjustment nothing should have changed on Before and Current , chart. But they Lie to me changing my current results trying to get me to pay for alignment that i did not need. Stay away for large or odd jobs.. However I'm sure they're good for maintenance. I have a 2012 Ford Focus that needs a clutch(which I already knew), dropped it off to them and was called a few days later saying the transmission module needs to be flash updated through Ford before they can touch it and it may or may not fix my problem. Took it to Ford and they said the module doesn't need to be flashed and that it just needs a clutch LOL...well thanks Brake Master for costing me $150 Ford inspection and towing it there and to a new shop as I'm not paying dealership repair prices. Now for the second car I took, a 2004 Dodge Neon. They said they're 99% sure it's the valves, but they don't have the tools for a "leak down test". Took it to another shop and they said it's the catalytic converter. If it does turn out to be the valves I'll come and add a star or two. The third vehicle a 2015 Kia Sedona they did get it right. Steve was very friendly and overall I received good customer service. Like I said I think they would be a good place to do basic maintenance like oil changes, brakes, suspension just not large jobs. read more

Made an appointment over the phone. Asked specific questions about length of time to get an alignment done and oil changed. Was told 2 hours maximum. Husband just dropped off the car at 10:30 and was told it would take 4 hours "depending on how the appointments before ours go," but most likely by the end of the day. We are scheduled to go out of town this afternoon and have a reservation we HAVE to make I time, which is why we planned ahead and built our plans off of what we were told. Husband dropped me off at work so we could leave right after I get out. The lady at the front desk is unhelpful and doesn't give a flying eff. I'm now looking at possibly having to schedule an Uber just to get home because of how disorganized these people are. What is the point of making an appointment if they aren't going to adhere to it. Avoid this location. The one in Orangevale is much more honest and they actually care. This lady at the front desk... yuck attitude. This location is a joke. The few times we've gone here, they've alwaysbeen behind and have had lame excuses. We get straight answers and decent and reliable/professional interactions at the Orangevale location. Various lights on my dash lit up including the check engine light. After the diagnostic test, it turned out my alternator was shot and my belt was shredded. The heating sensor was out too. It's a wonder I made it to the shop! Anyway, it did take a day to fix everything but honestly my car runs so much better now than it ever did before. The guys that work here are super awkward and honestly flat out rude. I get that this industry isn't exactly all customer service but there is a level of being a normal human being and at least acknowledging someone when they walk by/in. I pulled up in my car thinking someone might come up to me as they do at most places, no worries I don't mind walking in maybe they're busy even though there are no cars to be seen... so I get out and walk in. I'm met by two super off putting men that flat out say nothing to me when I walk in, just stare blankly until I explain that I'm coming in because I have some lights on and I'm not sure why and I ask if they can please run an obd or something along those lines. He says with a tone "we can do a brake check" like okay so basically what I just said in different wording... lol. They run the obd tell me that it's possibly due to a sensor and don't really give me much information about it when I tried to ask how much that repair would look like. It literally seemed like I was inconveniencing them.... So odd. Then when going inside they tell me they will have to run a diagnostic, which is fine, but I asked the price and he says in an annoyed tone "it's 140." So I of course say oh man... as that is a lot for just diagnostic. He then says that it is the cheapest I will find, and that it is a good deal. I said okay, I don't know about that. Let him know lm going to look around, and as I assumed, he over quoted me like many places do with women.... First place I checked 90$. Of course a significantly better deal as well as way more reasonable. If you're a woman steer clear of this place, they're like many others that just want you to whip out your card and assume you won't look into it any further. read more

I have lots of car repair anxiety. After having a bad experience with a different location of brake masters a few years ago, I decided to try again. I had brake fluid leaking. Made an appointment for 11:30am and they were running behind so I wasn't able to make it to work that day but sometimes it can't be helped. Jordan was pleasant both on the phone and in person-and was great with communicating clearly to me and other customers. I needed to get alignment on my Lincoln Town car I called brake Masters and they said to bring it in and they would check it out for me when I walked in it was so nice because they treated me like I was a human like I had something worthwhile to say unlike the last place I dealt with at any rate they fix the car are they took it back to give it the alignment and when they came back out they said well you don't need an alignment it's fine and I said oh do you have any way that I can prove that to the people at home and he says oh yes I have the diagram right here and so I took that home and everything was wonderful and they are so kind and patient if you're a woman take your car there they treat you like a human being thank you . Bo is an amazing service advisor and figured out exactly what was wrong with our brakes within 1 hour. This Brakemasters location is great. We had gone to a different brakemasters store a few months ago, and the brakes had been squealing even though they were new. After bringing it back to the other store and getting new pads put on, the brakes started squealing again within a couple weeks. I was tired of dealing with the other location so I called corporate and they referred me here. I brought the car to Bo and Baker at this citrus heights location at 9 am. They called me in an hour and told me the problem was that the brake rotors were not oem, they were steel and not carbon coated, and that's why we were always hearing squealing. I wish I had known when I originally got the brake job done at the other location because I would have paid the extra ~$100 and change for oem rotors!! Anyways, Bo installed the correct oem set of rotors and new pads, and my car was ready at 1 pm. This is an amazing brakemasters location that absolutely went beyond my expectations. I only wish I had came here first, and now I know I will in the future. TLDR: Not all Brakemasters are created equal. Come to the Citrus Heights location. read more

We've been customers of this location of Brake Masters for almost 10 years now. At one point we spent $4000 on them repairing one of our engines and they did a great job. For the first couple years, they were really good when they had the same manager but since all they do is focus on sales, the manager keeps changing every six months. Every time we go in it gets worse and worse. We recently purchased their extended warranty on a five-year battery that lasted three years. We took it back for the full warranty (which we paid $250) for and then the new battery died within seven months! We took it back since that was definitely a bad battery, and they would not honor anything! Would not even give us a new battery for a discounted price... Just said no, it only covers one battery, even though that battery was bad! They don't care that we were loyal customers for over 10 years. We will never come back here. Mr. and Mrs. Henry read more

In addition the front office gentleman didn't even know the thickness of a rotor for my model car and wanted to try to just grind down my rotor rather than give me a replacement even though I only had something like 4/100 of a rotor left. Arrived 15min early, upon walking in the gentleman said they didnt have any 4pm appointments, and said I was at the wrong location. I pulled up my email confirmation for store #220. He, too, had my appointment on his screen- which tells me he lied initially and tried to blame the customer for going to the wrong location. He then spoke in a condescending manner to let me know brakes take 2 hours which would put them past closing time. I completely understand this, but why would I not be contacted to reschedule? When I asked him why I got a confirmation, he said "I dont know." No apologies, no attempt to reschedule just "I dont know." Now go away. (He didnt say "go away", but his tone and attitude sure as heck did). No problem I'll pay someone else. I left work early for this appointment which, again, I received confirmation for, just to be turned away. He did attempt to offer me a brake inspection which I didnt ask for and do not need. Why would I pay for an unwanted service after being treated in this way? Not a good business practice. I did not get his name, but he is the heavyset older gentleman with too much product in his hair. I will happily take my business ELSEWHERE. And it certainly will not be a different Brake Master location. This was my first attempt to be a customer, not going to try agian. read more

The staff here is courteous and is willing to help you. I went in for an alignment, but there was more damage to my car from a previous situation. Instead of over charging me or fixing things I didn't want, they informed me of the situations and let me make the decision. I also overhead another customer disagree with their diagnosis, and they willingly listened and went along for a drive with them. They weren't patronizing, and that customer left happy as well. The guy said I didn't have an appointment... ok whatever you still have time.... attitude already. He remained on his phone the entire time. No smiles no conversation. Fine. Honestly, I've had a better experience here than all the other Brake Masters. I went in for a warranty brake issue for the front and they ended up fixing my back brakes. They replaced everything under warranty and I didn't even know it was still covered. I thought it was the front, which by the way was squeaking also and had to replace at another shop unfortunately. It took a bit of talking back and forth to finally find the problem in the back and fix but I'm glad it was. They even stayed after closing so that I can pick up my car. The manager/assistant manager(?) and a woman stayed behind for me which I was grateful for. Definitely wasn't expecting that. My mom had brought her vehicle to this location for an oil change, she was informed of a belt squeak, so she had the belt replaced. She barely drives the vehicle and is usually in need of minor annual maintenance being the vehicle has 79,000 mile and is 10 years old. She had brought the vehicle to me and I heard a loud rattling noise, so I inspected and noticed the drive belt tensioner was rattling. So, I had replaced the tensioner and all seemed well. Approximately two days later the noise was back so I took another look, the tensioner was rattling. I took the vehicle over to Brake Masters in Citrus Heights and spoke with the Manager, this is when things took an ugly turn. I explained to him what was going on with the vehicle in a soft tone being that several customers occupied the lobby at the time and unfortunately, he didn't seem to mind allowing other customers to hear our conversation and responded with "how do you know", I explained to him how when the vehicle is loaded from accessories the tensioner strains and begins to rattle due to a drive belt that is too long for the vehicle. He said well you were in there so maybe you put it on wrong, I responded with "It's in the same state it was before I performed a repair. He looked up the invoice and said " it shows the right part number so it's the right belt so we didn't do anything wrong", I feel he should have said Mr customer I am going to do everything I can to facilitate your vehicle into my busy schedule and at least have one of my technicians put eyes on it to make sure something else isn't going on and make sure the belt is accurate for the vehicle, but he didn't, he asked if I wanted to set an appointment for later in the week. I explained to him that would not work for me, so he brought a technician out to the vehicle and the technician confirmed the belt was too long. I explained to Scott that it may have been mispackaged or manufactured incorrectly, but he was too stubborn and told me the part number on the belt matched the invoice so it's the right belt but said he would take a look at it. Not sure why this Manager felt it was a good idea to argue with someone at the counter in front of other customers, but I have a feeling those customers might not return. Later in the day I received a phone call from Scott, stating they had replaced the belt with the same belt, and it is doing the same thing. Obviously, he didn't think to do a little research for a different manufacture to see if one would match the other in length. I did the research and found the oem belt crosses to a 6KP1210, the belt installed part #4060478 crosses over to a 6KP1212, took me under three minutes to do this research, clearly an application catalog error. He then tried to sell me an alternator stating that when it was unplugged while the vehicle was running, the tensioner stopped rattling. Obviously, he doesn't know that this vehicle has a computer controlled alternator and unplugging it while running can damage an ECM, He also doesn't comprehend that taking the load off of a loose belt will ease the need for tension. Come on guys this is auto repair 101. In essence I would prefer to just get a refund as I have no confidence that a repair of this magnitude can be performed at this facility, but have yet to get a response and had to have the belt replaced elsewhere and guess what? No more noise and the tensioner alignment is no at manufacturers specification. read more
