I made the appointment on line when I saw the $49.99 coupon. The guy at the counter wasn't very friendly. After checking and getting my VIN. I had mentioned to him I had wanted coupon price. He said I had to have the coupon. He says oil has gone up ya ya ya. And he wanted me to pay $100 . Of course the coupon wasn't on their website any more but I know he knew what I was talking about. I said I hadn't paid that much for an oil change in almost 2 years . I said well then I'm going somewhere else . He handed me my keys. As always I got my oil done $50 competitors. I went to Brakmax many times, my last experience was not good. I was going being charged over 1300.00 for a charcoal canister for the EVAP system. So, I went to another Mechanic or another shop close by and was charged 600.00. I went back to pay for the diagnostic they did. And was quoted 149.99 dollars. And when I got there it was 162.00. I didn't know that the tax was not included. When I asked the guy in the front about it. he got smart with me and said we live in the United Sates and we pay taxes. There was no need to say that, unprofessional at best. I did like the work they did in the past but now I am not too sure. Makes me think they no longer want my business. read more

I originally took my car to this shop on 12/21/2024 for squeaky brakes. After the inspection I was given a litany of "problems" and quoted over $5,000.00 in repairs, which did seem excessive and unnecessary but since I plan on keeping this vehicle for a while, I decided to trust them and go with the repairs they said were needed. My vehicle stayed the entire day and I was given my keys back an hour and a half after the store closed. The mechanic and manager (Fernando) stated that there was a piece that was not fitting right but that the mechanic did his best and the problems were fixed. The next day I could still hear my brakes clicking and squeaking as well as a burning smell from my engine. I called Fernando back on 1/11/2025 and he stated I could bring the car back. I dropped off the vehicle on 1/12/2025 at 9am. I got a call at 330pm saying that the vehicle needed to stay till monday if I wanted the repair because and I quote: "The vehicle is not safe to drive"!?! I let him know that that is unacceptable as my car has been there all day and I already paid them OVER $5K!??! The manager called around 6pm (AGAIN AFTER CLOSE OF BUSINESS) and said my car was ready. I picked up the vehicle when I got home I could still smell the burning smell coming from my engine, my brakes (the initial and only problem) still squeak when reversing, AND NOW MY VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AND TO THE RIGHT AT ODD INTERVALS WHEN DRIVING. Considering the amount of money I paid there is ZERO reason for me to be having to write this complaint. Now the business has carelessly and negligently put myself and my families life at risk while driving. This is unacceptable!! read more

I got my car service for oil change including the regular routine check with tire rotations. The service was fast the customer area is a bit small but ok but the big problem, I found is the totally bad service when they lied on me saying the tire was rotated and he talk about the tire tread and air but when I checked my tires that I marked before service. I found out they didn't rotate the tires. Totally lied and deceptive practiced. Aron who I spoke on my service didn't even apologized for his staff incompetence, negligence and dishonesty. If I didn't marked and checked the tires I would believed what they told me unfortunately this happened to me beforethat's why I marked my tires before service to verify their claimed is correct and honest. Now I'm skeptical if this people really use the correct oil type since customer like us doesn't have any way to know if they use the correct oil. I would not recommend this store. read more

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that I have NO idea when it comes to cars, therefore I will deem myself "mechanically challenged," so when I had a scare where some exhaust was coming out, I had heard some crazy thing like "heads" "water in the oil" which apparently mean BIG MONEY. My brother's mechanic came by who said, there was just too much oil in it, and that it would need just an oil change. Since my Buster boy, yeah I named my car Buster. After current San Francisco Giants great and future Hall of Fame catcher Buster Posey, was due for one anyways, I decided to just go there in place of my usual place, mainly because it's literally straight up the road from my place, and it needed to be done yesterday. When I get there, I was welcomed by a lovely gentleman named Shawn and I explained I just needed an oil change. And reiterated that I am aware of some pre-existing issues that are not of an urgent matter, and they were able to see my car right away! Since it wasn't gonna be that long of a wait, I decided to stick around since they do offer a free shuttle. About 20 minutes in, they inform me that there was an issue with the radiator. A small leak (which is probably where the leak I had been made aware of previously was coming from) and that it should be fixed if not ASAP, then relatively soon. I advised him that since I was in the middle of a job transition, that I wouldn't be able to do it that day, and that was the end of that. There was absolutely no pressure or push from the tech to get it done. Fast forward a month later - the radiator is getting fixed. Again, no appointment and they can get my car in right away. I didn't feel like waiting the 2 hours or so, so this time I opted for the ride back home. I had heard bad things about this place, but thanks to reviews I've read on here, and on google, the place seemed to have improved within the past couple of years. I'm happy that my 2 experiences have been pleasant, and I'll be coming back for my next oil change. Thank you for the wonderful customer service and for keeping my old man running just a bit longer. He's a 2001 Honda Accord and this is the biggest issue I've had with it thus far. Here's to (let's hope) another 100,000 miles! read more

A few weeks ago I purchased a car and I thought it would be a good idea to have the brakes checked to see where things stood. I stopped by the BrakeMax location on Kolb and after a moderate wait, they came out and told me my front brakes were fine but my rear brakes only had 10% left. They quoted me $170 for the brakes, $50 for a hardware kit, and $40 for a brake fluid flush but said my rotors didn't need to be turned. For the price, I might as well do my brakes myself given the times. I went ahead and bought a set of pads and when I took off my wheels over the weekend to take a look, the pads almost looked as good as new pads less perhaps 20%. After making a few calls to shops around town (full service mechanic shops recommended by friends), they were not surprised about my experience at BrakeMax. Stay clear of this shop and get a 2nd opinion at a shop you trust or check them yourself. Lesson learned, I hope others do not get taken by this shop. read more

Dont tell customers to bring it on down then when they arrive not offer help carrying four wheels in and then say too bad when it causes them to not arrive in time to have their vehicle serviced. Never had a bad experience with this store. Nothing but good things to say. The Saturday crew gets me in and out the same day, and at a competitive price. They've kept my three old vehicles going strong. On top of that, one of the mechanics owns the same vehicle as I do, so he provides extra pointers on what may go wrong. My car care plan chose this BRAKEmax for me. I needed an oil change. Called for an appt. and got in three hours later. They got me in a few minutes early even. The lady at the desk did mention that she thought I'd need synthetic (more expensive oil). I assured her that I didn't. Confirmed on computer, and oil cap. No other up selling tried. I've been to a lot of Break Max(s) in town. I haven't been here for a long time because I have a very good mechanic that I trust and does amazing work ( won't rip you off either). When I first bought my car about 10 years ago I bought the lifetime oil change and I decided I might as well use it this time around. For this deal they only use conventional shell oil with 4 dollar fee (environmental oil disposal). They were quick and at the end they do tell you what you might be due for given the mileage and their inspections. I typically see this as an annoyance because at some locations they are kind of pushy and try to get you to "fix" the problems they see right away but this location was different . They gave their opinion and quotes and sent me on my way which I appreciate. I would recommend this place for your minor oil changes and breaks/break pads etc. read more

We used to go to this one before the Rita Road shop opened up. The people there are always friendly and helpful. They have always treated us fairly and have giving good advice on upcoming maintenance issues. They suggest, but never push. On this trip I needed an oil change. My wife waited until the last minute to get it change. I called around and most places could not get me in. On the day I went in they were able to fit me in at a time that was convenient for me. Love this location. The gentleman whose name I can't remember is always very friendly and courteous. He even went as far as to let myself and the husband know about the yummy Chinese restaurant in the same Plaza while we waited for our vehicle to get services. It was perfect timing. Just like we were quoted. We had lunch and when we were done everything was good to go. They do give you an inspection printout with estimates for work they think should be done and they ask but they never pressure you into having the work done. Love this location because I can get in some shopping, lunch or even my nails done while I wait. They also offer shuttle services. read more

moved here and had past experience with midas but went to brakemax and midas for estimates because i would need a future appointment regardless. the midas on 22nd east of kolb was very poor in courtesy,and honesty..the estimate was inflated and incorrect..brakemax estimate was explained courteously and it was an honest assessment.i was able to get everything done plus some preventive work for about half of the phony midas estimate.i will continue to give brakemax my business...and i will be calling the midas customer service line to advise them of my experience there. read more

Find another auto repair shop!!! This is literally the worst place to bring your car. These are the type of "mechanics" to diagnose fake problems with your car just to get you to spend an extra 300$! This place isn't a friendly repair shop it's a SCAM. I went here for a simple oil change that they wanted to charge me 60$ for that was originally supposed to be 30. They also brought out a list of fake problems with my truck that would have cost me $2,000 to fix! Absolutely horrible service and an incredible ripoff. The wait time was atrocious, and they don't go over any costs with you ahead of time.

I went today to have my daughters brakes checked. I made an appointment the day before, and it still took them an hour and a half beyond the appointment time to even start to look at the brakes. Finally, I received a call telling me that not only did the pads and rotors need to be replaced but the drums as well. Guy at the front desk told me that it was rare but they were in such bad shape they couldn't be resurfaced. I told him I was going to get a 2nd opinion and asked him to put the car back together. This is when the problem started, manager Shawn Smith called me back and told me the same thing, and started getting pushy about factory specifications and measurements. I again requested he put the car back together that I was getting another opinion. He called me again as I was pulling up because he wanted to show me the measurements. During this time there was obvious damage to the rotors, but when I questioned the drums, because his measurements weren't making sense and there didn't seem to be that kind of damage, he replied "well dear, I don't know how to make this any clearer". I told him I was done and to put the car back together. He was beyond demeaning during this time. I knew his measurements were off because he didn't seem to know the difference between 1/100 and 1/1000. I left and went to see Bob Wolf at Brake Masters, needless to say the drums were not shot, I received prompt, polite, timely and courteous service without being talked down to. Turns out Brake Max had let Bob Wolf go from that Brake Max location because he wasn't aggressive enough and Shawn was. Good job, Brake Max, you got an aggressive manager but you lost a customer because of his aggressive, demeaning demeanor. read more

I have always taken my van to the dealership to have the oil changed, but the prices at the dealership were outrageous! I decided to TRY brake max and I am so glad I did!! I brought my van to the shop without an appointment and the very sweet gentleman at the front desk told me it would be about 2 hours. A little long, BUT I really cannot complain. Made a complaint earlier - negative yes, and with good reason, that Yelp has 'chosen' to not recommend, interesting, so am reposting and prefacing with the fact that a Complaint was filed with the BBB and this company chose not to respond (interesting for company that is a member of the BBB. The BBB has sent them a second request: My 81 year old mother recently took her car in for an oil change and look over, when she mentioned it, I took a look, it only had about 1600 miles on the oil, checked all the fluids (all full and clean), checked her parking spot, no leaks or anything showing. So thought, sure, if she wants to, no problems. She takes it in the next day, then when I get home that afternoon, she's all upset. Turns out they tell her there's a leak (??? Odd that ALL fluid levels were fine), and it HAS to be fixed. She said they offered to show her, which she basically waved off as she doesn't know cars at all. Then she asks 'Hoe much?' and get's told 'about $1,000', which upset her even more, (one would think, that if someone was upset about the total cost of the guesstimate, that, if ethical, they would look to remove items that weren't essential work) but said 'It's been a good car, if it HAS to be done, it has to be done' and pulls out her checkbook. (and again, obviously the tranny work and fuel system work DIDN't HAVE TO BE DONE) Then apparently they gave her a ride home for while they fixed the leak. Came picked her up, again out comes the checkbook and they are telling her, 'No put that away' and start talking up some credit card that will give 6 months 'free' financing, she want to write a check (and yes it's easily good), but no they keep talking up this credit card thing, so she basically gives in, telling me they wouldn't let up. I go to look at the invoice, and see they have done the oil change, replaced the Rack and pinion, but then it gets interesting. Apparently they decide that while doing the rack and pinion they also need to flush the power steering system (apparently can't just replace fluid that might be lost (so almost an additional $60), they also played with the fuel system (which had no problems at all), treatment chemical kit, rail treatment, cleaner, service, etc ($134), and replaced the transmission filter and gasket (yes and flush the system) to a tune of $300. Again, the extra charges for 'flushing' are just typical add ons, the trann could simply be refilled after changing the filter and gasket) I've since emailed them about this, so there would be a written record and asked a number of questions about all this, most of the questions have been ignored. In particular, this fuel service junk. ON the transmission, was informed they had been recommending this for 2 years now (and notably A) we have declined, the car is near 12 years old, total 54,000 miles, the car's manual 'suggest' changing gasket and filter, only under extreme use, none of the conditions she really meets, the car is seldom driven, doesn't tow anything, little to know heavy city driving, not during the heat of the day, etc. And actually it was brought up closer to 3 years ago, by the previous manager who had said it wasn't really needed, maybe at 100,000 miles. The current manager initially stated that the tranny flush is recommended at 50,000. Then later after the manual was quoted to him. Then comes back in another response and says it's recommended anytime the temp exceeds 92 degrees. No comment offered on the fact it had been declined previously 2-3 times, no responses to other questions, etc. Also a note on this 'credit card company, supposedly this card is to come with a $50 Visa card for opening the account (my mother told me they said a $100 card, which of course hasn't been forthcoming. The issued a card within days, and sent an initial bill that CLOSED 9 days after the work was done and gave a billing period that supposedly started appr 3 weeks before she even opened the account. The company has numerous complaints on the internet about it's practices.. When I initially emailed the store - I was also very specific to ask for a response via email, so there would be no he said/she said, also knowing how upset my Mom was about all this and getting ripped off, I didn't want her to have to deal with these people. And, of course, the very next morning this manager calls my Mom...on the phone. This upset her even more (gee thanks Brake Max - get a SPECIFIC request and totally ignore it), anyway, she informed him to never call again, that she wouldn't be back and then hung up on him. So they stuck her for over $430 of unneeded work (which she wasn't aware of) not to mention the failure to produce the $100 (or $50 as they claim now) gift card....and I still have strong doubts about his so called leak that resulted in the rest of the charges (other than the oil change), since as mentioned the fluid level was good. So beware of using this place, am filing a complaint with the BBB also and reporting this read more
