I brought my car in for one simple issue that was later fixed elsewhere with an $80 part--yet this shop charged me over $2,000 for work I never authorized and that did absolutely nothing to fix the real problem. Preying on a customer who doesn't know what service is needed is predatory, exploitative, and disgraceful. They showed zero integrity, zero transparency, and zero competence. Great service, quality results, and terrific personal courtesies I want to write a lot about our experience with My Mechanic but I'll limit it to three areas: I give them the highest rating in the areas of service, quality, and courtesy. Service in what they did and how they did it, quality for the results, and courtesy in how they accommodated us with their attention, kindness, their loaner car for 4 days, and allowing us to stay in our RV (which is our home) for the 3 nights that it was in the shop. Our Situation My wife and I live full time in a 1996 RV. The CHECK ENGINE light had come on just after arriving in Tucson and we got a referral to My Mechanic. Our Experience Even though they were quite busy they dove right into diagnosing the problem. Franklin, who we first interacted with at My Mechanic, gave us a clear and in depth explanation of the primary and secondary problems along with options of intervention, costs, and times, along with his recommendations and rationale for those choices. There were no surprises in the diagnosis because we had these same problems before, problems that other shops had addressed, which we had thrown thousands of dollars at, and which never really got fixed. My interaction with Franklin, seeing all the work being done there, how clean and organized the shop was, and even seeing all the mechanics wearing clean uniforms, inspired trust in me so we gave Franklin the go ahead. Joe, the owner, came out, having apparently gone over the situation with David, the mechanic who diagnosed it, and let us know we could stay in the RV overnight and use their loaner car, a recent model Chevy Impala. The work needing to be done took just under 4 days and they kept us informed along the way. While this was shorter by as much as half the time these previously failed repairs took at other shops, they were apologetic about how long it was taking, were very appreciative of our patience, and took care of us on various levels. They are very kind, respectful, attentive people. Because their mechanic Zenek was the best person to deal with rusted bolts, he was who Joe put on the job of disassembling our troublesome exhaust manifold. Like a careful bomb diffuser he was able to take the exhaust manifold apart without breaking any of the rusted bolts. Jamie, who like Franklin, is retired from hands-on mechanics and works in the front, called us along the way to let us know good news - like a doctor coming out of the surgical theater to let us in the waiting room know how well the surgery was going. When Jamie let us know the work was finished, we went back to the shop from the local errands we were doing with their loaner car. Jamie and Franklin went over what was found along the way such as critical cracks that other mechanics before them had missed. The cost was no more than what Franklin had originally quoted even though they had spent more time as a result of having to deal with the previously hidden problems. Now it is 5 weeks since we left My Mechanic and we have driven 819 miles as we've continued our trip. Our gas consumption seems to have improved and the engine has consistently performed better than it has in the 2 and a half years since we bought the RV. It runs smoothly, sounds better, the transmission seems smoother, and the temperature is lower. We're not only very very happy we went to My Mechanic, we regret we didn't go to them first before wasting so much money on faulty repairs and the gas consumption those failures cost us. Whenever we come to Tucson (at least once/year) we'll go to My Mechanic, for a check up and even just to visit with Joe, Dena, Franklin, Jamie, Zenek, David, and Jesus. These folks really know what they are doing, and won't talk down to you because you don't know what they are talking about. They spent time walking me through things and when I left the shop I felt comfortable and empowered in my understanding about the vehicle I brought in for them to inspect. I highly recommend My Mechanic to anyone (especially other women who have had bad experiences at other shops) looking for a mechanic with credibility and integrity. If you are looking to buy a used vehicle (even just a few years old) I highly recommend setting up an appointment with My Mechanic to have a pre-buyer's inspection done. They comb over the vehicle and let you know about anything that needs work or will need work soon, and they also give you their opinion on the status of the vehicle (whether it's going to be a good buy/reliable vehicle, etc.) because they are extremely knowledgeable about different makes and models/years. The inspection costs ~$40 and is well-worth the minor investment to know if you're making a good purchase. (They waived the fee for the inspection for us since we are returning customers and for the information they gave us I would have paid them a lot more than the ~$40 they told us it would cost otherwise!) I can honestly say I am excited about knowing where I will take my vehicle when I have an issue with it next because I know I will be getting the best information available and a completely fair price for the work they do. read more

After waiting a while for the tow truck in the heat we arrived and they had some ice cold waters for us and got my car taken care of extremely quick at a good rate. This place was really nice and friendly, but I brought my truck there to diagnose a misfire issue they told me they were going to do a compression check and a diagnosis. When I arrange to drop it off I let them know that I will need to pick it up by noon he told me that would not be a problem. I left the truck there. when I called around noon for pick up/update he advised me that it wasn't ready and it would be more time. When I finally went back to pick it up they gave me a list of repairs that had nothing to do with the problem I came in for. I believe they miss manage their time and rush through to put together a report of most obvious leaks and maintenance concerns. In the end I was out over $100 and they didn't even do the compression test like they said they were going to. Needless to say I will not be going back there. Really nice people though! read more

I highly recommend My Mechanic. They are honest, reliable and perform quality work. I, originally, came in for an AC inspection/repair, but the mechanic did a thorough inspection on my car and discovered other things that also need to be repaired. I was given an estimate for each issue, but there was never any pressure to get the work done ASAP. They repaired my entire AC unit/components in 2 hours and even gave me a ride to/from my home, so that I didn't have to wait in the shop and miss work. I will be back for additional repairs soon. This is probably the best auto shop I have ever encountered in 35 years of car ownership, honest, kind, reasonably priced and utterly reliable. I recently brought my ten year old Prius in prior to a cross country road trip to see if there was anything it needed. And while Franklin did take care of the big obvious things (tune up, new tires, alignment) it was his thoughtfulness about the little things, making sure the spare was inflated and in good condition, that helped me undertake my trip with confidence. The crew at My Mechanic did me well taking care of my wife's Honda. They have a Honda certified guy named Boxx, can you dig it? But more importantley, I'd asked'm to do a job quoted at over $700. So I scratched up the money, took in the Honda and that afternoon, they called to let me know the job had been done about six months ago. Yeah, I know, how could I have forgotten?! But that's not the point, the point is, they could've proceeded with the job, taken my money and I'd have never been the wiser. They treated me right, saved me a lot of money (over $700) and won an enthusiastic and loyal customer. Yes, car mechanics, car salesman and lawyers have a reputation - so when you find an honest, helpful and competent mechanic/shop, you brag on them. I've taken multiple vehicles, for multiple "fixes" (the last being blown head gaskets) and have never been disappointed in the "MyMechanic" team. Owners, Billy & Dena, operate a first-class, honest, and experienced shop. This is the best auto service shop in Tucson for any car owner, especially for older vehicles. They take the time to listen to your problem, inspect the vehicle, then report back on what repairs should be done for safety, vs. those that could be done at a later time. I've never spent more than what was quoted here, and just this week, had my 1993 Jeep Wrangler YK in for extensive mechanical repairs (new salve clutch, new clutch, new front brake rotors, new rear brake drums, front U-Joint replacements, and various other items that needed fixing with a 150,000 mile Jeep. I was very pleased to actually pay about $300 less than quoted! Another bonus was knowing the tow bill to get the Jeep to their shop was FREE because I was already a customer! I really appreciate working with Franklin at their front office. You can tell he cares about getting the job done right and he also understands the mechanical issues from his 40 years in auto repair. Horrible experience-would never trust this service again. The Mechanic "Terry" would not listen to the information that we had to provide him about the vehicle's service history. Then it seem as though he had no clue at all as to the problem or how to fix it, walked away, got on his phone and then got in his car and peeled away. The My Mechanic customer service people called and claimed that they cannot service vehicles that have already been serviced and cancelled our appointment. This seems like their blanket excuse to get out of servicing the vehicle because they don't know what they are doing. Not to mention that he spent a good deal of time taking pictures of the inside and out side of our vehicle which seemed on the shady side. read more

I have used the shop several times over the last few months. I will say in the beginning great customer service! However when I took my truck in for them to rebuild my steering column it took three times to get it right because they never put in all of the new parts I gave them to replace the first time. The mechanic thought that they were fine and that they didn't need replaced, but they did. It was an honest mistake on his part and he made it right. The next time I brought it in and they did a major brake repair. Everything was great except for two of my new moon caps got dented. It happens and they do dent easy. The owner Billy made it right. Nice guy. The final time I brought my truck in they put a manifold and carburetor on for me and did a great job with that however, I had them check and replace the master cylinder that appeared to be leaking and I asked Sean the service writer to make sure that the brake warning light went out after the repair. That message was never relayed or put on the work order. That was very unfortunate because later that night after driving it ( they were nice enough to drop it off two blocks away at my work for me) the wheel cylinder causing the warning light to go off ( that they just replaced weeks earlier ) went out slicking my passenger side drum almost causing me to crash into a car in the other lane. Very scary for my wife and the other people. The next day I took it to a shop I have used the last 12 years and they fixed the problem fast and even gave me 50% off labor after hearing my story. Even after I said that it wasn't necessary. When I called Sean to explain what happen and that I would not be bringing my truck back to there shop he became defensive, rude and lost his cool yelling telling me to never bring it back. Ok, no problem there like I said! I think the owners and Mechanic that did most of the work to my truck are good people. Clearly some issues going on there and potential liability issues by over looking things of that nature though. I started using their shop as it was closer to my work and spent over $1'550 there. What I dicovered is it is sometimes worth the drive! I am not saying to use them or not. These are just my experiences. read more
