This was my second visit and on each, the service was excellent, characterized by the good-natured banter employed by those who treat serving as a profession, not a mere bridge to what's next. ~ The servings, particularly of the delicious home fries could be more generous for the price, but aren't unreasonable. ~ My biggest issue today, which may or may not be appropriate to mention, was their cash only policy. Giving credit where it is due, it was clearly posted, so wasn't a surprise.. ~ The relatively minor issue that arose was due to the white ATM on site. Unfortunately, it didn't recognize my PIN on repeated attempts, which resulted in my dining companion having to sit and wait for almost 20 minutes as I sought out an alternative (the bank machine across the street being, unfortunately, out of service. ~ I hesitate to mention this issue as I certainly don't have a problem with the cash only policy for a small business, save and except for the fact that it seems problems with the machine were relatively common. ~ All told, this is a solid neighbourhood all day breakfast diner in Centretown that I will return to, but must warn you to be sure to come equipped with cash. read more

It's as classic Canadiana as you can get for a breakfast and brunch diner spot. As soon as you walk in you feel like you've been transported to the 50s and you expect Elvis to be playing on the Jukebox while a bunch of highschool kids in letterman jackets are lounging around in the booths. Well it's not exactly a scene from Grease, but Bramasole does have a certain charm to it that you don't see many places anymore. They do brunch and they do it well. The menu is simple and hearty and mostly based around pancakes, eggs, toast and potatoes. The portion sizes are fantastically large and you will not leave hungry I promise you. I got myself the Bram-slam option which was two eggs, pancake, french toast, potatoes, bacon, sausage and toast all on one plate. That is a meal that two people can easily share but I was hungry, so I didn't let my sister near my food even though she tried to sneak a couple of homefries off me. The best part is how easy the meals are on the wallet. I treated my sister to brunch and my Bram-slam and her veggie plate came out to less than $25 bucks. The only thing that limits my visits to Bramasole is that they don't do any card payment options. It's a strictly cash only biz but they do have ATM's on site. It's a minor annoyance but it doesn't make too much sense in the cashless society we live in now. read more

This is a breakfast/brunch place. It has a very cool typical old school diner feel which I like. There's lots of seating available, although it's pretty busy on the weekends. I got the sunshine breakfast which comes with 2 eggs, a lot of bacon, bread, home fries and COFFEE! I love when endless coffee is included in the breakfast. The servings were big! And the food was really good! It is extra for egg and rye bread (50 cents) that I wish I knew about (not that it would stop me from getting it as it's only 50 cents but it's always nice to know about the extras before). The egg bread was delicious and well worth the extra 50 cents by the way. The service was very fast and courteous. I would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast if you want a big breakfast on the cheap ish side. read more

I always wanted to check this place out as I walk by almost everyday. As I was walking by today, I was hit with a craving for pancakes. I decided it was time to try. The place inside feels like a classic 50s era diner. There are not many of these type of places around anymore, so that was fun. I ordered my eggs and pancake. Unfortunately, it took 45 mins for my breakfast to come. The place was pretty busy, but it felt like a considerably long time considering I was one person with one order. I was looking around, and there were no real big groups waiting for their food, so I don't think the kitchen had a proper reason to take that long. Atleast when the food came it was still warm so that's good. The waitress was nice and came around and refilled my coffee several times as I was waiting. The food was tasty. Pancake was nice and fluffy, and the potatoes tasted as if they were home made. The scrambled eggs were pretty creamy, as if they had been mixed with milk or cream prior to being thrown on the grill. My only disappointment was the bacon, the slices were very thin. My lower than usual rating is a result of a couple of things. First, my food took a long time to come. Second, the thin bacon. And third, they don't accept debit. I understand this is at the discretion of the owner, but it was annoying for several reasons. They do have an ATM in store, but it wasn't able to read my TD debit card so I had to go outside and get cash from another establishment. That was the first time that happened to me, and it was fairly annoying. The waitress was very nice about it, and accomodating, so good on her. In the end, what I thought would take maximum half hour (ordering breakfast, eating, and paying) ended up taking a lot longer because of the long wait and them not having debit. Would say if you're looking for something more classy there are plenty of other spots, but Bramasole is a tiny gem of itself, locally owned and operated, it gets the job done and fills you up. Make sure you give yourself time to get a seating if you're going on the weekend, however our party of 6 didn't have to wait very long so that's a bonus. We could have had it all. Bramasole seemed promising. Simple menu with simple brunch items. A cute diner vibe. Super friendly staff member. Reasonable prices. Granted, we visited on July 2nd, the day after the busiest Canada Day. I expected a bit of a waiting time, but honestly this was ridiculous. We were a group of five and we had all ordered simple classic breakfasts (basically just eggs, some kind of meat, toast, and some potatoes). We waited for over an hour for our food, which is kind of ridiculous, considering how simple it is. I can make that kind of food in less time, and I'm a terrible cook. Like, I understand that it's the day after Canada Day and that all the places are going to be crowded and a bit more slowed down than usual. But what bothered me about Bramasole was how understaffed it was. There were only two waitresses on the floor (the day after Canada day!!!!!) and it looked like there were only two cooks in the kitchen. Anyway, the waitress we had was great and was totally aware of the situation and did the best she could to deal with the huge influx of people. Hats off to her because she was awesome. I'm probably a little more salty than usual because we had just spent all of Canada Day waiting in line for everything. The food at Bramasole was classic breakfast diner food, which is my fave kind of food. Anyway, to recapitulate: good food, great service, nice atmosphere, but horrible wait times (which I think could be attributed to terrible organization). After waiting a full hour for our eggs benedict, they arrived with overcooked yokes and only a single order of home fries (we asked for a double order) which were so soaked in grease they were inedible. When we told the waitress that the eggs were very obviously overcooked, she became defensive and asked, "that's not how you like it?" Ummmm, no. That's not how we like it... She then told us the owner would come speak with us. The owner, after a significant debate, said she would comp something off the bill. She also offered to re-do the orders, however after an hour and a half in this restaurant we just did not have time. However, when the bill arrived we noticed nothing had been taken off. $50.00 for 3 people for overcooked egg yolks and disgustingly greasy home fries. (Oh yeah, did I mention this place is horribly overpriced?) If you have any sense you will visit virtually ANY other restaurant in a 100KM radius that serves bacon and eggs. Even if Bramasole was the last diner on the planet, in a post-apocalyptic waste-land where eggs cured radiation poisoning, I would gladly lie down and await my slow and painful death than order breakfast there again. read more

Bramasole embodies the classic 50s diner better than any place I've been to in Ottawa. If poppy music, squishy sparkly booths, Marilyn Monroe pics and black and white checkered tiles are your thing, Bramasole is up your alley. They have all the usual suspects for menu items: burgers, shakes, sandwiches and all day breakfast. The prices are reasonable; you'll usually pay about $10 per meal. However, their hours are only from 7am-3pm, so this place is only a breakfast and lunch option. The cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired, but it's not too bad. Also, since I love poutine, I must give my poutine review of Bramasole. The fries are average, the curds are authentic/good and the gravy has a weird after taste. Bramasole promised so much but failed to deliver. We walked in here and were pleasantly surprised to see a quaint 50s diner complete with brightly-coloured booths and checkered accents. The menu seemed reasonable enough, too. However, things went downhill from there. Our server was unfriendly even by diner standards and got our order wrong. The food seemed pre-cooked: my pancake was a tough, crunchy disc while the rest of my food was lukewarm at best. We even discovered that the Aunt Jemima syrup had been watered down. When the bill came, we were surprised to learn that coffee was an additional $2 as were our sides of toast, meaning that our sub-par breakfast cost $32 before tip. Fun facts from the menu: management reserves the right to limit coffee refills and "any style" eggs can only be prepared in four ways. Unless you really have a hankering for retro decor, avoid this place. Wilf & Ada's down the street is worth the wait. read more

This place has that small town feel to it. I go in there, and there are regulars reading the paper, and the wait staff all seems to know everybody in there. Being from a small town, I enjoy this. The food is pretty much the same food you get at all diners, but that is expected, so no complaints there. Only downfalls: it's not open past 3pm, and if you go in there with a group of more than 6, you're going to have to spread out throughout the diner. read more

Bramasole is very non-descript from the outside. I thought it was your typical fast-food restaurant until I got inside. I was delighted to discover a faux 50s style diner! Not sure what Bramasole has to do with the 50s, but hey.... Anyhow, I was most interested in the breakfasts. My wife and I are always on the hunt for Ottawa's best breakfast deals. Bramasole has your basic 2 eggs, bacon, toast meal for $4.99 and a super sized version (with pancakes and more) - called the Bram Slam! - for $9.99. First thing in a cold winter Saturday, head out to find a good eggs and meat breakfast. Inside the diner was a bit too chilly so my partner kept his coat on as did a few others. We both ordered the sunrise at 7.50$ with an extra .30 for the rye toast. Great toast!! Better than so called artisan ryes that have no flavor we have come across a lot lately. Food hot esp the sausages, but the plates cold, so eating fast was the ticket. Sausages fab, but home fries too salty for my taste. Coffee average. Staff friendly, atmosphere pleasant. Cute stylish 50's flare but lacking in cleanliness, customer service and quality. No one greeted us or sat us so we sat ourselves. After waiting 10 minutes i also went and grabbed our menus. I ordered steak, toast and eggs my partner ordered the bram-slam. We waited at least 25 mins for our food. When it arrived his meal was just fine but mine was a nightmare! The toast was black as pitch, the eggs just fine but the steak was not edible. I gamely tried to chew it for 5 mins and then spat it into a napkin. When i brought it to the waitress and told her my plight she argued and insulted me with the cook while i was sitting right there! She never once apologized and only came back to ask me once more what exactly was wrong with my steak. On the bill she tried to charge me for the mouthful of homefries i ate (fat chance) and never even bothered to say goodbye. Terrible food. Terrible customer service and disgusting dirty floors. Very old feel to the place 50s to 70s era great memorabilia on the walls from the era they have all your classic breakfast foods bacon hashbrowns eggs sausage pancakes and much more the only thing I found odd was the new age music from the radio. read more

This diner is okay but definitely not my first choice. I waited 10-15 for a menu and coffee, should have just left. It was busy but that's no excuse and I waited an hour once I ordered and my toast came burnt to a crisp. If I can put -10, I would. I've been to many places in Ottawa. This is by far the worst one I've gone to. The waiters are absolute rude. We patiently waited for 1.5 hours for our food and when we finally asked they said it's on the grill. It's STEAK for 20 minutes. It does not need to be on the grill for this long. The waiter did not show sympathy. Not once did she apologize that we had waited 1.5 hours for our meal. We were a quiet group. Did not disrespect anybody. There would have been no reason to be grumpy towards us. Please step up and improve customer service. read more

ZERO STARS! Bad experience from start to finish! I hardly write a bad review and always go to the manager first with my concerns however this place does not seem to care. We went here on Saturday January 21,2017 for breakfast as it is close to where we live. The server sat us at a table that had just finished eating. She took the dishes away but did not wipe the table. I had to remove the hair off the table that was probably left from the patron before. Judging by our service and experience i'm assuming the hair was the server's tip! The server took our order and almost 35 minutes later we were served our cold and tasteless food. We took a few bites and were very disappointed. We could not eat it. The server asked if there was something wrong and we told her it was cold and did not have any flavor. She apologized and asked if we wanted to eat something else. We declined. She came back with our bill of $28.90, not adjusted in anyway for the cold and tasteless food. We had $30 cash on us not realizing they do not take debit or credit. We handed her the $30 and she said "there is an atm in the corner you can use". Seriously? the food was bad, it took forever to get it, you did not wipe off our table and you want me to spend money for a service fee at an atm to give you more for a tip??? We left and i had called back later that day to ask for the manager since they were not in while we were having breakfast. The person who I spoke to and who thought was the manager told me " well we are very busy today but I'll take down your number and have the manager call you". She didn't even seem to care. I waited for the manager to call and they did not. I called again today and the person who answered said they will be in tomorrow. I asked if they had email or another number to call she said no. I asked if she can take my name and number again and have the manager call me. She told me it was better for me to call back tomorrow. At this point i'm hoping this review will reach them and they can do something to change the bad reviews that have been written in the past 8 months. I should have read the reviews prior to going as i would not have spent my hard earned money only to have it literally go in the trash. read more
