Second, this is a lovely trail for hiking a couple miles, but it's not covered by trees, so perhaps it's better for a cloudy day. Third, you'll get a view of sand dunes, wetlands, and a pond (if you're lucky, a heron will come into view). This is a delightful trail for a relaxing walk - and a haven for joggers, dog walkers, and photographers. I think the Gordons Pond Trail is one of the crown jewels in Cape Henlopen State Park.

There are lots of bike paths, hiking paths and a large camping area that looks very well kept. There is also lots of wildlife, both driving around in the park or in the ocean. I have heard that the traffic can be horrible sometimes but I tend to visit early in the morning or later in the evening. This is a beautiful place to visit and I would highly recommend, especially for sunrise and sunset.

This is a hidden spot in Delaware and its so beautiful. You won't find many people here but you will find your perfect quiet place whether kayaking, biking, crabbing, hiking, or swimming ( public boat ramp). The observation tower is the best view of the Assawoman Bay and wildlife . You will see lots of bald eagles, river otters, giant woodpeckers , blue heron, egrets. SMH why all those cars are sitting in traffic to go to the beach when you can go to the bay ? It's completely free ...lots of fishing and crabbing , sailing , paddle boarding and don't forget to bring the dogs because they are allowed here!

Something about the sprocket was bent. Ugh! Instead, I sprayed some sunblock on my arms neck and face, put on a hat, and took a walk. The beach is stunning. Flat, warm, sunny and not overly crowded for a July weekend. While the beach is not step free, they're trying hard to make it as accessible as possible with mats and ramps that can support a wheelchair. That's awesome. I did see a bunch of offroaders. Apparently, you can get a permit to bring your 4WD onto the beach. Pretty darned awesome, that is! What are those huge concrete structures? They're WWII-era bunkers! Yes, these huge installations were built to counter the fear of German U-boats invading Philadelphia via the Delaware River. A series of tunnels connects the bunkers but those aren't open to visitors. I had a great visit and managed to not get any burn! [Review 18196 overall - 113 in Delaware - 1718 of 2022.]

The worst though were the ticks we came home with. When all was said and done, we counted over 20! ticks (most of them attached) on us. Given the danger of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, we will think twice about hiking Okie anytime soon.

It's a smaller State park and slightly confusing with the direction's but the staff was helpful just get a map. We camped in a "walk back" section of E. Very spacious sites with the bathroom/shower reasonably close. Parking was "ok"..... but they fill up and then you have to use overflow. The bathrooms/showers were clean BUT I guess I'm used to sites that spray repellent because nature is boss. We drove through the comfort sites of D and they were too tight for my liking. They have yurts and cabins but for me a tad too close. They do have an Island camp site Loved it!!!!! That's a must do. It's 2 sites across a short walking bridge with water view and access. I would definitely go back.

One thing I don't understand is why the Park Maintenance people don't cut the Wisteria growth on the trees? Some trees have vines over two inches in diameter. I love National Parks…read more Not just because I'm patriotic with an environmentalist sensibility -- but because they are time warps of sorts -- a glimpse back at the way things once were and (hopefully) will be for our descendants -- long downstream. The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is a pleasant respite from the commercialism of Jersey Shore holidays -- its' boardwalk attractions, fast food and fast living. It is well marked and you can bring your binocs along to spot wildlife and unique plants and flora found nowhere else. Better still -- bike in and hop scotch around between dunes and other natural formations -- but avoid crossing into the restricted areas that are clearly marked by Area 51 type warning signs -- lest you want automatic weapon toting humans rousting you. We walked the trails in sand, alongside more poison ivy in one 2 square mile stretch than I have probably seen in my entire life. Bring bug spray, a fishing pole to cast off the jetty -- and maybe even long pants and an epipen if you are especially sensitive to insect stings and poisonous plants. Free bird watching walks are regularly available and -- thankfully -- it is a relatively unpopulated attraction so it is soulful in its solitude.

There is a great trails to see the wildlife refuge. It runs parallel to the beach. Guided tours are available. We saw some great birds this summer landing on the beach! My first spotting of an American Oyster Cracker. I only wish I was able to get a picture, happened so fast. Don't forget your binoculars! The butterfly migration in October is really something to see, nature at its best. We have spotted white skunks, and have seen one coyote.

The park itself also has hiking trails and Atkins Arboretum - a gorgeous nature preserve with its own trails to enjoy. We spotted a pileated woodpecker, a downey woodpecker, and blue jays during our exploration.
