Dr…read more Shandling's office registered the device under my information with iRhythm technologies even though I had not been seen in that office since 2010. As I had moved out of the area 15 years prior, I never received any bill and the bill was sent to collections. It took multiple phone calls over several days to get anyone to help look into this case. Finally, the billing manager at Dr. Shandling's office admitted that someone entered my information instead of the correct patient's information so I was being billed for the service that patient received. I don't understand how this could have happened as I had not visited that office for 15 years, my chart should have been archived. There was no mention of how this happened or what would be done to prevent it from happening again. I'd think twice about coming here as mixing patient information is a serious concern and there were no/insufficient checks in place to ensure the correct information was entered. UPDATE: As of 05/21/2025, the balance from the collections company is still showing. Additionally, Dr. Shandling's office forwarded an email that inadvertently revealed the other patient's information including date of service, prescription number, device serial number, patient name, patient DOB, patient's insurance company, and patient's insurance ID number. This is a HIPAA violation. I have yet to receive confirmation that all records have been amended and reflect the correct information.

I created a…read morenew yelp listing for it (https://www.yelp.com/biz/southern-california-food-allergy-institute-scfai-long-beach), but also wanted to review Dr. Randhawa specifically: Dr. Inderpal Randhawa and his cutting edge, innovative Tolerance Induction Program (TIP) has changed so many lives... and it is changing ours. Our daughter has a life-threatening peanut allergy that we discovered when we introduced peanut butter to her when she was about a year old. The reaction was immediate, and sent her to urgent care. We avoided nuts and were careful about restaurants for years, until an acquaintance told us about SoCal Food Allergy and the work that Dr. Randhawa is doing. Their child was extremely allergic to peanuts, and was able to eat it with no issues after going through the program. We immediately put ourselves on the waiting list. We thought being 700+ on the waitlist was long, but now their waitlist is 2000+ people long! Patients fly in from all over the country, and even as far as Australia, to come see Dr. Randhawa. That is a true testament to his work. When we met and talked to Dr. Randhawa for the first time at our second appointment, we knew right away that we would do this. He is so knowledgeable and compassionate. You can tell he really cares about these children, and has a deep passion and conviction for food allergies. His "precision medicine" approach is uniquely his, and different from other traditional OIT methods. First of all, they do thorough diagnostic testing and data analytics. What they're doing is discovering patterns within the data collected. Through their research, they've been able to design predictive markers based on phenotypes, so they can predict at what dose for which allergens they can anticipate issues, and make a plan for dosing using this data. Their success rate is 99.9% Protein matching - they don't simply say "your child is allergic to peanuts" and leave it at that. They seek to understand exactly what specific proteins in the allergen is the child allergic to. Peanuts are purposely one of the last allergens to be introduced because they can introduce 8 of the 13 proteins that exist in peanuts through other foods. Thus, by the time peanuts are introduced, the child's allergy to peanuts might have already decreased by 15-20% because the child was already previously exposed to certain peanut proteins from other allergens in earlier food challenges. We have both our kids in TIP now, and are about halfway through. It has been a very positive experience so far. Mr. Randhawa has always directly responded to any questions or concerns I have, and has always felt within reach via a simple email despite the fact that he must receive so many inquiries a day! The staff also always provide a detailed plan of care after each visit, so you know exactly what you need to do at home. They also detail out what you should do should your child have a reaction while home dosing. SoCal Food Allergy's end goal is to have the child eat whatever they want, whenever they want - without restriction. The program focuses on high dosing to induce tolerance and seeks to turn the immune system off, so that it will no longer be allergic to certain proteins in foods. They work to make regular dosing as infrequent as possible, so that the child will be okay even if she doesn't eat the allergen every single day for the rest of her life. The child will still need regular ongoing dosing, the frequency would just be significantly less. I highly recommend doing the research yourself, and look into his program if your child suffers from food allergies!

If you want to talk to someone, you need to show up. This office does not use any electronic system database and everything is paper/files. It took me months to get a follow up referral (that the doctor had recommended) because they had not submitted the referral. I called the office countless times, left voicemails, and no responses. Once I finally spoke to someone, they said they'd be submitting the referral before the end of the week.... One month later and it still wasn't submitted until I went into person and asked for it to be done. Additionally, when I had an appointment with Dr. Marmarelis, I was disappointed in the lack of professionalism I experienced. After waiting 30 minutes for my appointment, in the middle of my appointment, he stepped out to take a phone call and in doing so, left my files AND another patients files in the room with me. It concerns me and makes me wonder if my own records are being left haphazardly around the office and my information is not being protected. The doctor did not seem to truly care of my symptoms, previous history or helping me improve my health. He was dismissive, and I felt like he didn't care about what I was saying. He quickly concluded that because my mom had headaches, it's just something I have to live with. There was no curiosity, no attempt to dig deeper. He immediately wanted to prescribe Topamax and Sumatriptan and call it a day. When I voiced concerns about the side effects I had read about, he scoffed and told me not to believe what I'd read-saying it wasn't true. His demeanor was very "know-it-all," without taking the time to understand me as a patient. My headaches have gone from a couple per month to daily, and his response was simply that I need to take the medication and "follow the process for insurance purposes." That's it. This is exactly why western medicine gets such a bad rap. I left the appointment feeling strange, frustrated, and dismissed. I came in hopeful for guidance and understanding, but it ended up feeling like a complete waste of time and energy. I would highly suggest seeing a different neurologist.

20+ years ago I heard neighbors talking outside my home about this amazing doctor, someone they…read moretruly trusted. When I asked the name of this doctor...they said Dr Franklin Lowe. I made an appointment that week and have never looked back. Dr Lowe is a compassionate, caring, person...not just an MD. When I first went to him the wait time was horrible, but since he is now concierge there is generally almost no wait time. His staff takes you back and does a pre-screen so that the time with Dr Lowe is on point. A word about his staff....they are excellent. They treat you like family and know you as an individual, not just a name on a file. Both my husband and I see Dr Lowe, love and respect him..... he is family to us. And has seen us through many crisis - some quiet serious with excellent results. His referrals to other doctors are impeccable..... the very best. To sum it up ......I'm having PT for a hip replacements and when I mentioned the name of my surgeon and Dr Lowe (my GP), the therapist said...."you've got the best", this is also what I'm told when ever I mention Dr Lowe's name in the local medical community. Thank you sir for 20+ years of care and good health at age 80.
