On another occasion, a non-profit was looking at a renovation but needed an estimate to take to their Board. Dave and Carol came at no cost and provided ideas, alternatives and costs even knowing they wouldn't get any work out of it. It's just the way they are - unlike many builders, it's more about your relationship with clients rather than how much they will spend,

We completed a $250,000+ remodel with Moore Builder. Strong point was Mr. Moore's artistic flair…read moreand ability to vision and build without elaborate architect plans. Builder was unwilling to meet with us on weekend despite our coming down from Connecticut for over six months to review remodeling and plan. We found the Moores very difficult to deal with and believe that they attempted to double charge us $20,000+ for work. We settled out of court with them after they hired an attorney and we threatened to sue the builder. Builder can do great work but we would never recommend them to anyone else because of poor customer relations skills and our belief that they attempted to double charge us.

Measurements were way off. Two extra boxes of flooring and ~40 feet of 1/4 round. When asked about what to do with the 2 boxes of flooring (that we paid for), was told "you can sell it on eBay". Really? Then there was the installation crew. No one spoke English so any questions I had resulted in blank stares. These were not W-2 employees but sub-contractors. This crew stained the 1/4 round us and it wasn't even close to matching the new flooring. And then there was the damage to the new flooring during installation. The large staple gun that was used to "nail" the flooring was placed dozens of times on the previously installed flooring leaving nail head size indentations across the entire floor. And then there was the "customer service". Made appointment with Ackerman (the owner?) to inspect the damage and he never showed up, he didn't call, text, or email that he was going to make it. During one of numerous calls, asked Jessica to have Ackerman call us. She emailed me that she couldn't get him to talk to us. But to be honest, full discloser: 2nd Street is giving us $40 for the 1/4 round. Bottom-line: we will never use 2nd Street again and will never recommend them to anyone.

The showroom looked nice and promising until we noticed no one was on the floor. We walked around and waited for around 20-30 minutes, chatting and looking at options on our own. We weren't trying to be quiet because we'd hoped someone would eventually notice us. When someone finally did notice, he sat us down and tried to schedule a walkthrough of where we'd need the floor. When we told him we just wanted advice on floor options, he insisted they needed to come to our house with a group of people to check it out first no matter what. We explained we didn't need that, but he kept insisting he needed to visit our home. We didn't appreciate how pushy he was and how unheard we felt so we left.

Walk Wright (WW) built our new construction home in Williamsburg, as we relocated from Michigan…read more While they were professional during the build process, used decent subcontractors and materials, and worked with our move schedule to get inspectors to approve the home for move-in pretty close to our desired date, there were many minor items left unfinished. It took many months to get someone from WW to come to resolve them -- and not all were resolved when they sent a single member of their crew to our home for a few hours. Then, we expected (and contacted WW to remind them of) a promised 18 month visit to fix nail pops, unfinished items, and other items discovered once we moved in listed on our knock list, Walk Wright did not honor that commitment. While they may be good at handling the macro details of home construction, they were not trustworthy with "service after the sale", even if the service was listed in the build contract.

But the subfloor was chip board and needed plywood to support the hardwood. Three estimates showed Jack's to be $6K less than the others. Having a good recommendation from our best friend clinched the decision. The communication we had with Jack's was outstanding. The installers were very friendly, respectful, and competent. They cleaned up after themselves each day. The installation took a little longer than they anticipated (and about where we figured as it was a big job). Once the flooring was done, there were a few items that needed attention - normal for any project. The punch list was handled quickly and effectively with great communication. We could not be happier with the price, quality of product, installation, and customer communication and support. If there were more than five stars to give, Jack's Tile and Carpet would be a 10! Our floors now look fantastic, and the oriental rugs never looked better. Jack even stepped by to stop on the progress. Robert came by three times. What a transformation!
