I'm going to start this off by saying I'm a fan of Brasitas. I've been eating there for years since they are extremely close to our office and I can honestly say the food is good. I mostly do takeout, but when I do eat in the restaurant the staff is attentive, but not all that friendly. Parking is shared with a few other establishments, but usually there is a spot open around prime lunchtime hours. Since I mostly do takeout, the only issue I have with them is consistency. I'm one of those customers who orders the same thing every time I go the restaurant and that's the Pollo Caribeno al Curry. It's my absolute favorite dish. It's really unfortunate, but there are times when the dish is just bland. The curry has no flavor and the black beans are a little soupy. The rice is almost always on point, but for a $15 lunch, I expect consistent quality. All in all, it's a solid place to go to for lunch with co-workers or to take some friends. I can't speak to dinner since I'm never in the area around that time. I'm going to keep going to Brasitas, but I just wish the take out was consistent. read more

I wish I could give Brasitas a better review, but they're too inconsistent in my experience. The scattered reviews seem to back that up. I've had some delicious meals at this Latin fusion restaurant (Quesadilla con Camarones & the Arepas con Pollo), but I and a couple coworkers noticed a couple times their ingredients weren't the freshest; however, when I complained the manager did apologize and accommodate by giving me a gift card. Excellent presentation and meals (sometimes), but too iffy to bring someone you're trying to impress. The prices for food and drink are high, too. read more

A solid choice in Norwalk for latin food. Sadly, I couldn't indulge in a mojito when I was here (damn you, pregnancy) but they looked awesome. Complimentary mariquitas (plantain chips with awesome garlic sauce) start the meal. They are on level with some of the best latin spots in Miami. So good. We tried the trio of empanadas, which are made with a corn crust, not flour. They were good, but I was actually a little disappointed in the corn crust, since that's just not my thing. Objectively speaking, nice flavor of fillings and perfectly cooked. I had the churrasco Cubano and it was perfectly cooked and tasty. I thought the potato/bean mash was awesome and I really liked that addition to the plate. Tried the curry and the bistec a caballo. Both were nicely prepared and had great flavor. Presentation was fantastic for all three dishes. Even though we were all full from our meals, the dessert menu was able to seduce us. We split the crepes and the flan. I don't even like crepes OR flan and I couldn't stop eating both dishes. No joke, this was the best desert course I've had in the past year of dining out. And I'm a prolific eater. Wow! Do NOT judge a book by its cover. I passed by Brasitas dozens of times but assumed it word be an overpriced, cheesy, themed restaurant, based on its prices and outer appearance. I was dead wrong! Menu is amazing! Every dish has many components and flavors. You can tell the kitchen is passionate about what they do. We had the crab cakes app, seafood curry entree and prawn with spinach entree - stunning presentation and the taste was off the charts for all three. The seafood wasn't the "freshest" tasting - for example, there are no huge chunks of fresh crab in the crab cakes BUT that's not what they're going for. Each dish had layers and layers of complex flavors. Brasitas, for me, is all about the seasoning and sauces...read: coconut basil aioli, garlic confit and tomato fondue, coconut-saffron and lobster broth, and the best free pico I've ever had at a restaurant. The interior wasn't cheesy at all. I actually felt transported to a relaxing cabana. Also, much smaller than I had expected, but I say that as a good quality. Very intimate, casual but classy. The atmosphere and service justify the prices well. I live right by the Stamford location and will be making regular stops. Can't get over the one of a kind menu. I want to try everything! I got stuck in Norwalk due to a snowstorm, and I have always heard great things about Brasitas. I stopped and and ate at the bar. I was promptly served homemade Pico along nachos presented in a Terra Cotta pot. I ordered a mojito as a beverage. The pico tasted so fresh, almost as if the vegetables were picked out of the garden that day. The mojito was made with care, and is one of the best mojitos I have had in a very long time. I especially enjoyed the Sugar Cane garnish. For my entree, I ordered the Churrasco Gaucho. It is a sea salt rubbed Strip steak with grilled asparagus, roasted fingerling potatoes, and garnished with a chimichurri sauce. This dish was recommended by another patron that was enjoying the same meal. I ordered it medium rare, and within 10 minutes or so, my food was promptly delivered to me. Holy cow! This is one of the best dishes I have ever had at a Latin restaurant. The asparagus was seasoned perfecftly, the roasted potatoes did not over power the dish, and the meat...well. This is not your ordinary strip steak. The seasoning and the care in which it was grilled all contributed to the excellent flavor of this dish. At $27, I was initially concerned with the price of this dish, but it seemed to be on par with the rest of the menu. After finishing this meal, it was money well spent. The drinks are a bit expensive (9 bucks each), but they do seem to have a happy hour special. I will definitely be back to eat at Brasitas! read more

As our dinner guests arrived, ordered drinks (a glass of wine ($10.00) and a bottle of soda (8oz bottle $6.00), we ordered the our entrees. The first, Entrana Cubana ($26) a very small 4oz skirt steak with mushrooms and three stalks of asparagus, the second Pargo Rojo Frito Whole Red Snapper (Fried) ($27), and Pollo al Curry ($24.00) the Pollo (Chicken) must of been another diet portion of 4oz, overdone, with bones, in a sloppy soupy sauce, and four sweet plantains as garnish. The first time I encountered Brasitas was at the Stamford location. Since then, I've come to this one b/c it's closer. I love this place, and yes - a word of warning, it is a tad pricey. But you pay what you get. To start, they bring out a good helping of plantain chips and chunky salsa. I've not had an appetizer yet because of this and also because the entrees are generally well portioned. I've tried Arroz con Pollo, Entraña con Chimichurri, Bistec "a Caballo", Pollo Caribeño al Curry, and Churrasco Cubano -- of course, not all at once! :) Their meals are always wonderfully presented, and just as tasty. The service can get a bit slow, but I enjoy it more as a leisurely meal instead of a fast pace one. I have been to Brasitas many times for lunch, but never for dinner. The food is generally very good, if slightly overpriced. The shrimp quesadilla is very nice, filled with shrimp and shrimp is placed on top of the quesadilla as well. It is served with guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. Their salads are good, if small for the price, with options to add protein. The arroz con pollo is a shade greasier than I would like, but the flavor is great. The tables are quite close together, but the atmosphere is generally fine and the bathroom is very clean. Free plantains and pico de gallo to start are always tasty! read more

Very cute little place on the quiet stretch near the highway. The decor is nice and not a typical Latino menu. Love the crunchy plantains sliced lengthwise with salsa instead of chips! Dishes on the menu are not common "Mexican" like some reviewers seem to be looking for, they are Latin American so don't run over there looking for burritos and tacos. Instead you will find culinary combinations delicious and different. I enjoyed a seared sole with grilled corn avocado relish and my friend loved the Ensalada de la Casa. We had dessert and coffee, very enjoyable. Mojitos were delicious and mango margarita was a hit with my friend. Playing and presentation was nice. My first experience with Brasitas was with their Stamford location many years ago, and I remember loving it. I was excited to see the Norwalk location open up and have picked up lunch here (take out) quite a few times over the years while working in the area. After reading the mixed reviews here on Yelp it seems the majority of negative reviews revolved around the service and price. Brasitas is definitely not cheap, but as another reviewer mentions... you get what you pay for. If you want cheap then there is a Taco Bell right up the street. Simply put, the food here is outstanding. OK, I'll say it... it's rave-worthy. It has to be otherwise I'd never give it 5 stars. Regarding service, I have noticed that the staff has had a bit of an attitude on occasion. I'm not letting that affect my star rating as it has never become a big issue for me personally. Hopefully the management at Brasitas will read these reviews and implement some sort of attitude adjustment mandate for the staff. On to the food... all the items on the menu looked so good it made it hard for us to choose what to have. Here's the breakdown of our last lunch experience... Mojitos - (just a quick one while waiting for our pick up order) not enough sugar in the mix killed the taste - 2/5 Empanadas - unfortunately, when ordered as take out they tend to become a little soggy (like fries do in a closed container), but still had overall great flavor. I'm sure these would be crispy while dining in. The dipping sauce had a nice kick as well - 4/5 (5/5 if served fresh) Pollo Caribeno al Curry - outstanding. Everything was delicious - the rice, the beans (that had a hint of chili powder), the plantains and the chicken were fresh and tasty. The curry sauce was a little too salty, and detracted from the overall dish, but it still gets a 5/5 Cubano Media Noche Wrap - another outstanding dish! The wrap was flavorful and juicy - the pickles were not obtrusive - 5/5 Yes, an expensive lunch compared to Taco Bell, but you don't spend the rest of the day raving about how great Taco Bell's "food" was like you do after you visit Brasitas now do you? A while back we had a coworker's going-away function @ Brasitas, and what an excellent choice for ASMLers, since it's close by and the price /food value is high. The guacamole they make is top of the list from what I've tried around here, only $6 for a large square bowl serving, with their own house fried chips. The dishes are tasty and plentiful. I only come here on special occasions because their food is overpriced. Each table gets a basket of fresh plantain chips and dipping salsa which I love. We started off with Empanadas which tasted like microwave food. They were disappointingly soggy and flavorless and we couldn't even tell what was chicken, pork or beef. Avoid at all costs! Entrees were their saving grace. See pics for steak and ribs. Meat was juicy and tender. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had flan for dessert which was also superb. We like this Brazilian restaurant for its "change of pace" cuisine. We had the swordfish special and the steak (Bistec a Caballo) with excellent guacamole as an appetizer and a pitcher of Sangria which was very nice. Brasitas in Stamford has a little more atmosphere but parking is difficult. The Norwalk Brasitas is in a nondescript shopping center but parking is very easy. I've been to Brasitas twice now, and had a great experience each time. It's a little tough to fit lunch there into an hour, but if your boss is flexible, go for it. The meal starts with plantain chips and chunky salsa, which I was reluctant to try because I don't like bananas, but these weren't like bananas at all. The texture is hearty, the flavor nutty and it's a nice change from chips & salsa. I've had the pork loin that came with a black-bean mango ragout, and I've tried the shrimp salad. Both came beautifully presented--bright, happy colors on elegant white plates. The pork loin was a little dry, but there was a nice sauce to make up for it and it went brilliantly with the sides. Speaking of sides, I am addicted to yucca fries. Fluffy, but with more texture and taste than potatoes. My sweetie has found a favorite in the coconut curry chicken. For dessert, the almond crepes are to die for, perfect texture, not over- or undercooked. There is parking in the back if the front lot is full--it tends to be so at lunchtime. I stopped in for dinner and sat at a table. The decor is colorful, yet, modern with a beachy feel. The latin music playing in the background is set at the perfect volume to allow conversation. The seating is comfortable and the service is outstanding. The meal started with fresh made pico and nachos. They were both delicious and very fresh. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo which translates to: A perfectly flavored skirt-steak with a a fried egg and delicious sauce, white rice and black beans, plantains and fingerling potatoes. While their regular menu offers the usual favorites like Ceviche, Empanadas, Paella and more...this dinner showcased a very sexy version of Latin cuisine. Painstakingly prepared and lovingly presented, each dish packed dynamite punches of flavors and textures. We started with Roasted Pumpkin-Coconut & Lemongrass Bisque, topped with Toasted Pepitas and Vermont Maple Syrup. WOW! I loved the harmony between sweetness of the pumpkin and the sharpness of the lemongrass. The enhanced nuttiness and crunch of the toasted pepitas along with the maple syrup was the perfect topping. Everyone at our table made sure that not one drop was left behind in their bowls. Next we were served Garrotxa Cheese Stuffed Black Mission Figs wrapped in Jamon Serrano w/Frisee Lettuce, Pine Nuts & Pedro Ximenez Vinagrette. Crunchy and creamy, sweet and salty, nutty and cheesy - this was a great dish. Bursting with Latin flavors and presented with contemporary flair and finesse. Background music is relaxing latin beat. However, the decor is a bit dated. Service:- 4 out of 5 Our severs is helpful and explain the menu and drinks in details. But the service is slow and they seems to be understaffed. Other than that, he check back and was responsive to our needs. Food:- 5 out of 5 This is where this place really surprise us all. With any Latin restaurant, the chips and salsa is key. This place has plantain chips and very good salsa. I ordered the Seafood stew with low expectation, but it was amazing. I was cooked to perfection, seasoned well and the seafood were fresh. My friend ordered the Salmon and he was delighted and enjoyed his food as well. Bottomline:- The restaurant is great. Great food and I will return in my next trip. Also, I highly recommends to anyone who are looking for good Latin flair at Norwalk. Brasitas in Norwalk is my favorite restaurant! First, the staff is great. Second, the food is delicious. I've been going there for a while and each time I'm greeted either with a hand shake, or a small hug. I've never had to wait for a seat or my food. I've never seen anyone disappointed, nor have I. My sister & I recently lunched @ Brasitas and it was simply stellar in every respect. I had Arroz Con Pollo, while my sister chose the Camarones al Ajillo. Our dessert choice was Tres Leches Cake. Everything was mouthwateringly excellent as well as a visual delight! A nice touch was the small pitcher of hot milk served with our coffee. Even though it was very busy, service was amazingly quick.
