As we walked in, we were greeted warmly and shown to our seats immediately. It was a chilly day, and the restaurant felt cold inside as well. The staff tried to warm things up with space heaters, but they didn't quite do the trick. We ordered empanadas, birria tacos, hanger steak, and sweet plantains with crema and queso fresco. When the dishes arrived, they were lukewarm--a bit disappointing, considering how cold it was outside. The birria tacos were delicious, though again, they could have been hotter. The meat was tender and well-seasoned, but I would have liked it a bit crisper. The hanger steak was tender, and the Pico de Gallo was bursting with flavor, pairing perfectly with the steak. It was nicely seasoned and had a good-sized portion. The empanadas were tasty, with flavorful and plentiful meat. The plantains were extremely delicious. The crema and queso fresco helped bring the whole dish together beautifully. The customer service was friendly, but the food could have been hotter; still, the flavors and seasonings were spot-on. read more

After almost 2 years of writing Yelp reviews, some events, and even a few new friends, it is finally time to write my century-mark review! For my 100th review, I wanted to pick something special for me. Though it was my first time visiting this place, I knew about from them following me on Instagram. Once combined with the Yelp rating and location, I knew I had been wanting to give these guys a visit. And so, Alma Bistro becomes my 100th review! Because I was on my lonesome, I was able to just take a seat at the bar, something I have always come to appreciate as an adult. I actually had 3 different people tending to me: 2 waitresses and 1 waiter. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful. I had actually asked about the "pp" by one of the menu items, and truth be told, they are talking about "per person" here! Helpful and great at their jobs! In fact, when I was ordering my food, one of my waitresses gave a special mention to another appetizer, those being the tuna tostada. It's not something I normally eat, but I figured why not! Trusting the employees can sometimes lead you to finding new favorites, and it shows that they really put their thought out when dealing with customer service. It doesn't look like much outside, but it's actually a different story inside! Plants help bring it even more life here, you get that casual feel when eating out, and even the bathrooms are clean! It's definitely a spacious place once you're inside. I did the full course here, which came out to $95.54 before leaving a $20.25 tip. The total therefore was $115.79. Definitely more of a treat than a place to come to every day, but I like it like that for reasons you'll soon find out. So for my appetizers, I had the aforementioned tuna tostada as well as the birria tacos. Those birria tacos are to DIE for! Came out hot, juicy, and just truly divine. The consume was flavorful and seasoned perfectly! Don't skip on these! As for the tostadas, they wouldn't be something I'd normally choose, but WOW was I impressed! These were tasty sons of guns, garnished with a plantain chips and give a spicy kick thanks impart to the jalapeños that garnish the plate. The presentation was superb too! For my entree, I almost went with the $35 Argentinian dish, but my instincts told me I HAD to try the Steak Chimichurri. I must say, that steak is without question one of the best steaks I'd ever had! I had mine medium-well, and it was juicy, seasoned perfectly, great crust that compliments the steak, you name it! It was absolutely HEAVEN on a wooden plate! You're given the yucca frites to go along with it, and these were good as well. The fries were the weakest part, but they were still good with that light, airy goodness. You just need that dipping sauce to elevate it and you're golden. For dessert, the gluten-free chocolate mousse cake! Actually, one of my waitresses Laura had to ask her manager if they were available to order, and luckily they were. You're given a tall slice of a chocolate layered cake with a strawberry drizzle on top and another case of great presentation! This slice slayed and was the perfect thing to end of this dinner. I also got their special menu Tropical Mule, and you have this pineapple garnish, kind of like the limes you might get in a Corona. The cup you get it in keeps the drink cold by not melting the ice quite so fast. Another case where it was worth every penny and then some. I love a good tropical drink and this one tasted great! Sweet enough to be tropical, but not overly sweet to where it can be off putting. Of course Alma is getting a 5! This was the perfect spot for me to take on my 100th review, and I hope you all have enjoyed your journeys on Yelp as much as I have so far. Many more great Yelp moments to come! read more

Bright, airy place with calming music playing. The food is excellent. I came in for Sunday brunch and had a weeps brunch special, which was kind of like a deconstructed arepa. It came as scrambled egged with arepa bread in pieces around the eggs. The eggs were fantastic and overall it was a great dish. I also tried the birria tacos because it seems a specialty of the place and they were very good. I could go without the dipping sauce though. read more

We picked a random place in Norwalk Connecticut and it worked out fine. It was a nice cozy spot with great food and friendly staff. The menu is not extensive but it covers the basics. I ordered the red sangria and it was pretty good, not too sweet and had a nice blend. Then you can't go wrong with guacamole and chips. It was a beautiful presentation. The guacamole was seasoned to perfection. I also ordered the spicy beef empanadas with yuca fries. The empanadas wasn't that spicy and the yuca fries had a nice crispness to it. The rest room was very charming and gave a nice relaxation vibe. Overall, this was a nice spot and I would definitely come back again. read more

The chef de cuisine at Alma Bistro takes pride in what he puts on your table. From the mix of spices, to the freshness, to the presentation of each plate, this is a keeper! This is the first restaurant I can truly say earned 5 stars. The restaurant was clean, cute and inviting. This restaurant is located in the heart of Wall Street in Norwalk with plenty of street parking and a garage around the corner. The staff was very attentive with great attitudes. They checked in on us frequently to make sure we were good or if we needed anything else and the service was quick. Special Shoutout to the Chef! He, aside from cooking the amazing meals, came to check in on us as well. The food was just amazing! They had a variety of small dishes on the menu that make it perfect to dine tapas style if that's what you prefer. They also have larger entrees for bigger appetites. The ribeye a la plancha would have to be my favorite. The chimichurri sauce was so delicious and the ribeye was cooked to perfection! My guests were very fond of the special of the today which was a cauliflower cheesy dish. I would love to return for dinner and try the rest of menu. We stopped in for a late lunch and essentially had the place to ourselves. The restaurant was very bright and vibrant. As soon as we got in the staff was very pleasant and sat us right away. The hostess and waiter were very nice and helpful. For our meal my girlfriend had the birra tacos which were very tasty. I had the steak with chimichurri sauce. It was cooked at a perfect medium temperature. My steak was served with yucca fries which were tasty. I also had a side order of Brussel sprouts which were perfectly cooked. The meal was delicious; to end the meal we had a dessert called milhojas which translates to a thousand leaves. It was delicious, puff pastry with crème anglaise and berries. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Norwalk. Everything, from the drinks to the dessert is beautifully made and delicious. We have gone just 2 of us and we have gone with a group of 10 and always great service and all made to order. The ceviche is excellent as are the beef enchiladas. The tuna tostada is one of the favorites on the menu as are the gambas con chorizo and the sweet plantains (we always have to order a few of thse). The ribeye a la plancha is also great. We sometimes just order a number of the appetizers to share and love that because everything is so good! For dessert I love the churros and the crepas as well as the tres leches and the coconut flan.. basically every dessert is fantastic. The atmosphere is so comfortable and the murals on the walls are beautiful. There's a parking lot right in back so easy also. read more

I just didn't enjoy the food here! Stopped in on a road trip and saw so many great reviews, I figured I'd dine in. The waiters and waitresses were so welcoming and they had plenty of space. Nice music playing but not what I thought! The salmon with pineapple was over seasoned and entirely too sweet. The Brussels sprouts were just ok (would have loved them to be crispy). I've been meaning to try Alma Bistro for months, and we finally made it Saturday night for a girls night! The restaurant was packed! We didn't make reservations, but there was a table top near the bar that was open, so we grabbed that. We arrived hungry, and were ready to devour the delicious looking menu! We ordered the yuca croquetas, stuffed with chorizo - so delicious and perfectly fried. I'm a lover of shaved Brussels sprouts, and this salad brought a delicious new flavor profile to my usually mix - for fans of cilantro and fried apricots! We also ordered the shrimp ceviche which was not what I was used to, but had a nice flavor! The chimichurri steak was great paired with the yuca fries! Honestly, though, the platanos were the hit of the table - a hint of sweetness mixed with the golden brown fry, topped with a white cheese and mayo. Perfection The tres leches was a nice finisher, but we were so stuffed by this point! I highly recommend checking out this delicious restaurant, and make sure to make reservations! read more

The new-ish Alma's Bistro is great! It's in the former Bistro 83 location, and has been given a brightening up. It's a warm, light-filled place and Alma herself sat us and made us feel very welcome. We had lots of appetizers and only 1 main for 4 people and everything was very, very good. We started with the fresh guacamole. The Mahi Mahi main was great and plated beautifully. The appetizers we had were the birria tacos, ribeye with chimmichurri, empanadas, the sweet plaintains and chorizo & cheese croquettes, along with these sides; the yucca fries and roasted Brussel sprouts. Everything was very good, we definitely had enough food. Too full for dessert this time. Will absolutely be going back again! read more

I just visited this little gem in the center of Norwalk quite by accident. I was greeted by my server, Mateo, very warmly and that was the beginning of a wonderful experience. The decor was low key and casual and the bar area very inviting. We were seated at a table by the window and we were very comfortable.l I was with my daughter in law and college age granddaughter. We ordered the guac for a starter along with the grilled, stuffed eggplant. My table mates enjoyed the tacos and I went for the Pollo ChaCha--Cha. It was amazing! There were two generous pieces of chicken in a very savory sauce but not overly drenched. Instead of mashed potatoes I opted for the rice with beans. The entire experience was excellent. Mateo was knowledgeable and his service was spot on! I recommend this restaurant and I am definitely going back! read more

It's so beautiful inside - we had visited the former business in this space and were really impressed with the remodel that Alma Bistro has done. The cocktails were gorgeous, and the food was all delicious! Really flavorful guacamole, and one of our favorite dishes was the tuna tostada, which we were also told is a customer favorite. I really loved their churros too! Friendly staff, especially the bartender. This spot is definitely worth checking out, and they offer brunch too! read more

I sat at the bar and ordered two of their small plate options. The yucca croquettes were really tasty and the octopus was just amazing. A well balanced dish with a hint of a spicy sauce (nothing too overwhelming). As I was eating, one of the staff approached me (not sure if he was the owner or chef) and we started talking. I told him how good the food was, he offered that I try a different dish. He brought me a plate of buñuelos with roasted corn. The buñuelos brought me back to my childhood when I lived back in South America. I did not get a chance to try any other dish but I will definitely be coming back. read more

4.5! There was literally nothing I could point out that I didn't like. I went for brunch! Their guacamole is perfect. Do not leave this place without trying it. I got the steak and eggs. They did allow me to get egg whites. I was so impressed they used cracked egg. I also asked for empanadas one of each and both were delicious. The chicken is actually seasoned and distinct. The beef is shredded and excellent. We tried the alma drink omg delicious. Get the sweet plantains ... thank me later! I don't just hand out 4.5 stars but this place was SPOT ON. The aesthetic was gorgeous on the inside loved all the live plants and the staff was super nice. I was told she also caters events. I'm definitely coming back to try their regular menu. I did have a little bit of issue parking since it's a street park location BUT it's TOTALLY worth it. read more

Alma Bistro is a sweet little restaurant near us with yummy food. I'm currently obsessed with their Baja fish tacos. Three come in a serving with small soft tacos, a generous piece of fish, loads of cabbage slaw and a mildly spicy crema style sauce. My husband loves their burger too and their desserts. Staff couldn't be nicer and very attentive. The only reason for giving it 4 stars is the ambiance which is cute but could be more cozy. read more

Came for dinner last night (Friday at 6). We had been here a few years ago and it was only so-so therefore we didn't return. Seeing that the reviews were really good, decided to try again. Under new ownership for about a year now. The space is a good size, with a nice size bar which has a large selection of tequila. The decor needs a bit of polishing up but honestly I really don't care. I'm here for the food. The menu has a lot of tapas to choose from so we ordered five for two people. All were excellent! I mean really delicious! The fried yucca was probably the best I ever had, crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. We ordered the chorizo croquettes, crispy artichokes, chimichurri steak and Baja Fish Tacos. Omg it was all excellent! We dug in and ate every last bite. I almost forgot to take photos! For dessert we had the tres lèche which was the best I've ever had. The portions are a good size and the price point is on target. The service was terrific! Our food came out surprisingly fast even though it looked like only two people were working the dining room. Our waitress was so sweet, super efficient and very good at her job. The food, service, ambiance are top notch here at Alma Bistro. My husband and I find ourselves repeatedly coming back here, even just for happy hour. The bartender knows how to make his drinks, and the servers are very attentive. I'd recommend getting the empanadas, octopus, and Birria tacos. Make sure to finish your visit off with the churros, which are warm, perfectly crunchy and not too sweet. The portion size to price point is great as well. Came here recently for girls night. I have to say, ever since, I've been dreaming about their food. The food was remarkable: incredible flavors and textures. Presentation was on point as well. I asked our waitress for a mocktail and it made me just as happy as a cocktail. The waitress AND the bartender checked in a little later to ask if I enjoyed the mocktail. My 3 friends and I were were delighted with our dining experience at Alma Bistro this evening. The atmosphere was light and pleasant with big yellow flowers painted on the walls and white tables & chairs. The service was excellent! Everyone was very attentive, warm and welcoming. One of my friends said her Margarita was the best she's ever had snd another friend had a mock tail that was very tasty with fresh fruit. All of us enjoyed the dishes we ordered very much and the meal presentations were impressive! Two of us ordered the Tuna Tostados and they were delicious eith a fusion of fresh tuna, avocado, peppers and a delicate but tasty sauce. My watermelon and cucumber salad with goat cheese was superb! All the ingredients were fresh and the dressing was light and slightly fruity. One friend enjoyed the Rib Eye and the Brussel Sprout appetizers very much. We shared a pear and rum cake with vanilla gelato that exceeded our expectations with a complex combination of flavors and texture that worked very well together. We will definitely return with more friends & family. If you want to try something with a little extra flare and make your tastebuds dance all for a reasonable price, you have to give this place a try! read more
