Hidden gem serving Latin American cuisine in Stamford. I've been here for lunch and dinner; the menus differ slightly, but there are dishes to love in both. The meal always starts out with yummy plantain chips and pico de gallo salsa on the house. They have a variety of delicious-sounding cocktails; I typically get their refreshing red sangria. From their appetizers (in both the lunch and dinner menus), their empanadas are a stand out. The dish comes with three empanada flavors: beef, chicken, and pork. They're cut in half and served with a creamy guajillo pepper sauce. So full of flavor. Another delicious appetizer (only available in the dinner menu) is the "pinchos de churrasco", three grilled skirt steak skewers with chimichurri sauce. In terms of entrees, the "bistec a caballo" (from the lunch menu) is a must-try! It's a skirt steak that comes with caramelized onions and peppers, rice, black beans, sweet plantains, and a fried egg. The "churrasco gaucho" (from the dinner menu) is my other go-to. It consists of a 12 oz grass fed prime NY strip steak served with roasted asparagus, baby gold potatoes, and chimichurri sauce. These entrees are huge; I definitely recommend sharing. For dessert, I've tried their crepes filled with dulce de leche and the tres leches cake, which is topped with guava sorbet. My preference for tres leches cake is for the cake to be very moist, so I found this cake to be on the drier side. The sorbet is quite sweet and tropical, so I wish the tres leches cake came with a different flavor of sorbet, or with the sorbet on the side. The desserts aren't the most impressive part of the meal, but they're still worth trying. Service is fast and I love their interior decoration! Plate dish-ware is somewhat large, but so are the prices. I believe the plates give the large illusion to justify the 30$ a dish price. Wish the margaritas had better house tequila , because they weren't strong at all. The staff was friendly, food flavor was good. I would give this place a 5 stars if the dish prices were more reasonable and the bartender could make the margaritas better. We had a great meal at Brasitas last night. We've been going to Brasitas in both locations for years and always love the food and ambience. It was a beautiful night so the indoor outdoor bar was open. The place was hopping but even without a reservation, they were able to seat us. I'd probably reserve if there were more than two of us though. Plantain chips and salsa were brought over when we sat down and were delicious. Margaritas were good too, and they were happy to rim one with sugar instead of the usual salt, very accommodating! I had the branzino that comes with pesto risotto. It was excellent and I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. read more

This place has a very cute interior and wasn't too busy on the weekday night we went in. At times it felt a bit hot, not uncomfortably so just higher than expected, but they were pretty good at opening the door on intervals to let in the cold air, just don't sit right in the draft like we did and I'm sure you'll be fine. The prices were a tad high for my taste but the literal taste is worth the occasional splurge. So let's dive in. What we got: Homemade plantain chips and pico de Gallo salsa - 4* the first round is on the house and that's really all you need. The plantain chips are such a novel idea and delicious on their own or dipped in the salsa. And the salsa tastes so fresh and delicious! Arepas Con Pollo - 3.5* on the smaller side. They were good but I'd probably save my arepas for a specialized arepas spot and try a different appetizer here. Mango-Ahi Tuna Tartare - 3* this was a special. It wasn't my favourite. Fish tacos (I forgot their menu name) - 5* I am not a fish tacos family but these are fantastic. I would definitely recommend them and get them again. Only two come out with an order so be creative in how to split with a group of three. Jerk Marinated Grilled Swordfish - 4* this was another special and it was also quite fantastic. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much eating the whole thing on my own (it might've been a bit much) but I did like eating a majority of it and sharing the rest with the table. Coca de Jamon y Burrata - 5* amazing. Basically a really good pizza. The meat was 100% delicious. Ensalada de Remolacha - 3.5* I loved the goat cheese balls in the salad but the salad isn't one that would've filled me up if it was the only thing I ate. Glad the person who ordered it gets filled up differently! I wasn't a fan of the beets and thought the kale and salad dressing were pretty good. read more

While traveling through Stamford and staying at the nearby Marriott, a colleague strongly recommended Brasitas for an authentic Latin dinner. My experience there did not disappoint. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive and the decor allowed a great environment. From the appetizer, to the main course and dessert every course was amazing. When served, they didn't bring out the appetizer. Our entrees came out and we were so confused. Our waiter gave us the appetizer on the house but it's still unfortunate and ridiculous because once again, we were the only table inside. Secondly, when this same appetizer that never came out, there was a long strand of hair and/or string. It just could not get worse. We came here once years before, and we remembered the food being good but the place being really loud. The good news is that the food was just as good this time as we remembered it, and the place was quieter. The meal starts out with free banana chips and salsa instead of bread and butter. The salsa was a wonderful mix of tangy and sweet, while the banana chips were quite addictive. I ordered the branzino filet, which came on a bed of pesto risotto and had a scoop of guacamole on top. We actually live in New York and we will drive to Stamford Connecticut to have lunch or dinner at this place. The staff here is accommodating and makes you feel at home. The food is incredible especially the salmon which has an amazing flavor profile. One of my favorite drinks is the coconut Mojito and it is made from some of the freshest ingredients and you can taste it. We had been to the Stamford location once and it was amazing. We live in upper Fairfield County so we decided to go to Norwalk (closer) for Valentine's. We were extremely excited. We arrived and from the very beginning it felt like we were an inconvenience. The wait staff took forever to acknowledge us and every time we needed a drink or wanted to order etc, we had to flag someone down. At one point I had to get up and find someone just to get our check since we had been sitting without attention for over 30 minutes. I cannot wait to try their chicken curry again with the yellow rice, it 100/10 - hit all the taste buds at the right spots. Cute place, good ambiance. The cubano comes in a nice presentation. Coming from The Island of Puerto Rico I am used to a bit more flavor in the pork but overall it was good. It comes with yucca fries. Supposedly they are mashed with manchego cheese and made into a cake then cut into little squares. For me, the flavor of the cheese was lacking but overall not bad. We came to the Stamford location for my grandmothers birthday on a Saturday. We had reservations for 7pm but we were running behind and were able to update the reservations with no problem. Thankful the restaurant wasn't completely booked at the time. We were immediately seated but found the spacing between tables to be very tight, especially for an 85+ year old person. Once seated, it took a long time for our server to come over, we had to waive him over to assist us with our order. Then as we were ordering it was difficult for him to hear because the music was pretty loud. We then received our plantain chips and salsa which is always a favorite as we were awaiting our meal. Normally I order the whole snapper entree which is delicious but on this occasion I ordered the Paella with the seafood only. I was disappointed in this meal as the base was very tomato heavy. But others at the table who generally order the same meal each time we dine at Brasitas thought the meal wasn't up to par. Therefore this experience was not a hit. Based on previous experiences, it is usually a home run! Therefore I give them 4 stars versus 5 because they are normally great but seemed to be off during this experience. read more

I've been to Brasitas several times but this was my first time for lunch and it was excellent! We sat outside on the patio and were brought complimentary plantain chips and a delicious salsa. The lunch menu was a great deal-- I ordered the vegetable burrito which came with rice and beans (only $11!). The vegetables were cooked perfectly and had a hearty flavor. The rice and beans were also really tasty and rich. My friend ordered the arepas and chorizo appetizers, which he said were tasty and a good portion size.
