It's worth asking what sizes you can order for dishes. For example, the lomo and pollo saltado come in two sizes. The smaller is perfect for one person. As it relates to service....yes, a little on the slower as it relates to wait time for food. However, the staff is always friendly, and they make sure to attend you appropriately. Food was good, but the first batch of tostones were so hard that it hurt to eat. We got a second batch that was better, but they were not freshly made it seems, maybe frozen. My boyfriend used to get this literally every day. When we first started dating I came here a few times & it was so good! We would get chicken with rice, avocado & a fried egg on top. I stopped coming because I stopped eating meat, fish & chicken & I found their vegetarian options were very few. Tonight I decided to come & try a few things off the side orders! I got rellenitos, black bean pupusa, white rice, an avocado, an egg & yucca fries. One thing I did notice was, mostly everything I ordered was fried..... I would give this place 5 stars for taste & everything but giving it 4 in hopes they read my review & maybe add in a few vegetarian / vegan options. Then, I will change it to 5! Too slow with not so great service. Food was very good and almost worth the wait, but in the end, for this type of establishment, it's just too slow. Food took 45 minutes...and it took us finally asking the server what the wait was for the service to finally pick up. But even once we did that service wasn't very attentive. Dropping the check to cashing out took another 20 minutes. I gave 1 star because the food flavor was good , the customer service is horrible. I ordered a ceviche when I received it it was filled with onion and about 6 pieces of seafood. When addrs to the manager he said he will take care of it, when I recived the ceviche back they gave me the same one i sent back but with no onion. When I tried to explain this to the waitress, she was dismissive and kept making excuses on how she was busy. We requested the manager, and he never came to our table.We started to get up to leave, and that's when the waitress approached us, asking if we needed a bag and to collect our bill. I understand that this restaurant is busy and short staff, but the service is horrible. The manager did not take any accountability. I will not be ordering from here again. I will start this review well because Old House ii does make the best lomo in town. However, I ordered a lomo without the sauce and mentioned it's because I was gluten free (the lady taking my order repeated back to me a "gluten free lomo saltado") and then when I received my order I was skeptical because it looked like my dish was soaked in the soy sauce. I made the mistake of eating the lomo, giving old house the benefit of the doubt, and I haven't been able to move for 2 days. I suffer with celiac and there is no question in my mind that the lomo container gluten. I am very disappointed that they lied about my order just to sell one more dish, and, being a returning customer, I will now say I don't plan on returning to a place I can't trust. read more

I ordered 3 lomos today for around 60$ and all the gave me was 90%rice 5%fries and 2.5 %meat and 2.5% veggies . I have been coming and ordering from this place for ten years now and what use to be my favorite restaurant, I will never order again . I called to complain because for then to be charging so much for a large lomo just so they can me rice was unacceptable. I spoke to three different people and they said that they started packaging and portioning out the meat so that people now get less but because of inflation everything is still costing more . I am appalled and disgusted of the service and quality that this establishment has become. And definitely don't get the pupusas ,go to a real authentic chef for these kinds of food . I ordered my food at exactly 2:40 they told me it would be ready for pickup in 20 minutes, I got there 20 minutes after I placed the order and I had to wait another 29 minutes just to two of the four items that I had ordered to just be sitting there getting cold while the waitresses were talking about how much tips they get and one of the employees eating right where my food was packaged. I asked on of the waitresses how much longer it would be that I've been waiting 40 minutes already for my food. I've always been satisfied with my orders, except this last time when I ordered lomo soltado on my lunch break and when I got to work it was only 3 french fries on a mountain of rice. I then called for the manager to provide me a solution. He then gave me a choice of driving back across town for extra French fries which would take me another 45-60 mins out of my work time. Or save the food until the next day then I can return it for a refund. Or I can eat the food and then pick up the extra French fries the next day. This is my second time ordering from them. Both times were pick up. Both times the food was bland and mediocre. What warrants the 1 star review was what happened when I gave them a second chance and the horrible service I received. The woman on the phone confirmed my order and repeated it back to me correctly. Positive - the order was ready within the 20 minute timeframe they gave. Negative - they messed up the order giving us two sopas (soups) instead of two chaufas (chicken w rice). Unfortunately we didn't realize the mistake until we got home. I called them back and they played a game of pass-the-blame/phone that concluded with the woman on the other end laughing at us. I thought maybe she was goofing around with a coworker in the back. I return less than 15 later, with the soups to be returned, and the woman behind the counter laughed at me. Some guy came from the back and said I owed $12 for the difference. WHAT!?! I came back to the restaurant, in the pouring rain, returned the incorrect food, etc. Instead of apologizing for the error & inconvenience, I get this treatment? I really regretted the $4 tip I had left from earlier that night. Once we got the correct food, it was bland & underwhelming. Plus the tamales, the few parts of original order they got right, was like a Wal-Mart version of what it should be. The masa wasn't season, there's 1 gram of meat to every 15 grams of masa. I had to add my own soy sauce at home! The fries also tasted off- either old or reheated. One green sauce also tasted like absolutely nothing and the other slightly spicy but weak. Very good! Huge selection on the menu. Our waitress was very sweet. I had a Guatemalan special which was marinated steak and pork with rice, beans and plantains. The portion was enormous. The meat was *slightly* dry but I find it is like that in most Latin American restaurants. It was good though. The salsa was HOTTER than I expected. So was the green sauce on the table. My friend had a steak that was also huge. The cuts are large but thin. Prices are very affordable. Unfortunately they were out of some of the desserts and the ones they had just didn't appeal to me. I have never tried Peruvian before so I am not one to judge how the food should have tasted. As far as the food is concerned, I would like to give them the benefit of doubt and say 'maybe Peruvian cuisine doesn't suit my palate' However, I didn't like this restaurant for a couple of other reasons: 1. The place was very small and the waiters were absolutely not welcoming. I definitely did not expect an upscale decor or impressive service but let's just say it was sub par 2. The parking lot is very small and so I parked behind two cars that were already parked only because one of the waitresses said those two cars belonged to the folks who worked in the restaurant and so I wouldn't have to worry. But the same waitress asked me to move my car when I was in the middle of my lunch. She did apologize and offered to move my car herself (both of which did not make me feel any better) but the damage was already done. I was so very frustrated, period! We had a group of 8 (4 adults, 4 children) and ate breakfast even though it was after 12pm! We had pupusas, chapin breakfast with chorizo, old house breakfast, and pancakes. I've been ordering from Old House for a few years now since moving to Stamford. The food tastes great, a lot of flavor and it never disappointed. I don't know if management changed or workers are new but the last few times I've ordered has been terrible. Not the quality, I'm talking about food portions and the dishes. The Lomo Saltado (large portion) would normally feed two people. The steak strips are extremely small now and you're paying $15 for just rice. We also noticed this with the Arroz con Mariscos. Barely any protein present and the rest was all rice. The last few times there was barely any steak, a few fries and the rest of the dish is full of rice. I couldn't stand that this kept on going on. I called up the establishment. They put me on hold for a long time. Told me they spoke with the "CHEF," and this was the normal portion of the food. You're telling me it's $15 for some steak, a few fries and 90% rice? That doesn't sit well with me. So quite frankly I won't be ordering from them anymore. Sad because their food is great but the portions and customer service just hasn't been there. I hope they get their stuff together and continue to grow. I've never eaten here but my girlfriend had in the past and was pleased. I ordered a Parilla mixta and asked for the steak to be cooked medium. It was the worst steak ever for the price listed on the menu! Over cooked, extremely thin and dry! I sent it back and got the same thing. The meat was too thin and full of tendons and nerves. There were only potatoes sliced in half and fried! One sausage and a steak that wasn't worth the price. Whomever orders the meat must reevaluate and change the pricing. It's funny how restaurants like this want to participate in things such as having discounts for customers on corporate perks but when the customer wants to pay and show the coupon all of a sudden they have changed their rules. The owner tried to tell me that they were not accepting them on the weekends anymore and I had to argue with him that it does not say that on the coupon regardless to say that he finally decided to honor a coupon that they are promoting out to the public. What a nice way to make the customers feel uncomfortable. Plus the food is overpriced and not that great. I think that will be the last time I go there. read more
