So disappointed. My dogs tear stains were not cleaned. Tbeir nails were barely trimmed and I'm pretty certain their anal glands were not drained. Specific instructions were not followed either. read more

NO no no no! If you want your dog to have razor burns, cuts, and damaged glands, by all means go here. But unless you would like to skip the $200 vet bill i had after this mistake...DON'T. They do not care about your animals. Their facility is filthy, unprofessional, and outdated. They exposed my Shih Tzu's glands wrong, and damaged them..causing me to (After a day of worrying why my dog was acting scared and distant) take her to the vet. They put her on antibiotics, and exposed her glands again (They said they were completely full). They also failed to clip my dogs toenails, resulting in split nails. I called them after i left the vet telling them what was wrong, and that i thought they should pay for the bill. At first, they AGREED stating that an inexperienced groomer had her. They called me back within an hour and then BLAMED IT on the previous groomer. Excuse me? She had not been groomed in two months and was completely fine until the minute i picked her up. This was their mistake and they did not own up to it. After arguing with her, she said to go ahead and sue her and that i wouldn't win. Horrible business ethics. The worst part is the psychological issues my outgoing little girl had after i took her there. She was so attached to me, shaking at strangers, and acting scared all the time. This coming from a VERY OUTGOING dog. It took about 2 weeks for her to act normal. I have since heard horrible stories about this place... from using dawn dish soap, to HANGING your dog from the table to scare it into holding still. Please don't go here. They should be shut down. read more

We have multiple dogs, & have been taking them to the Brass Hydrant for over a decade, never had an issue of any kind. Our Golden Retriever does not like to be kenneled, & gets super anxious when separated from our Pug, they accommodate his eccentricities by keeping both dogs together in their employee bathroom! I was so pleased with how this place groomed by Yorkie! We were on vacation, only in Rapid City 3 days and I called on a Monday and got an appointment on Weds. The curb appeal was a lil plane and so was the lobby, but the woman at the counter I believe her name was Beverly could not of been more thorough. She asked how I wanted it done, and asked a couple specifics for a Yorkie. When I picked her up 2 1/2 hours later, she looked great! I would recommend this place and would not hesitate to go back. We were traveling through the area an our standard poodle REALLY needed trimmed, they worked her in the next day an did a great job! The price was a bit high but she looked beautiful an clean. The best part they hand dryer her an she was ready to go in less than 3 hrs, that was great for a big dog that really needed styling. I would definitely give them a 5 star an would return. read more

They did an awesome job with our dogs! We have used them several times and never had a problem. Yesterday they even took the time to call and verify how I wanted my golden retrievers hair cut. We also have a collie/Shepherd mix who was shedding terribly, they returned him to us with all of the dead fur removed, looking great! read more

~They can get your dog in pretty quickly, maybe because they don't have business. ~Location stinks, especially with the never ending road work on Jackson. ~They do an okay haircut, but check your dog before you leave, they forgot to do his nails 2 out of the 3 times I took him there. ~Dog had ear problems the last time because they didn't dry his ears. When he started scratching I looked and they hadn't removed the hair either. These are Poodle Grooming 101 basics! ~Apparently only know one poodle haircut, with a disgusting dome head. I tried to describe to her how I wanted it, even showed her a picture .....but only ever got the dome. ~Last visit I saw the haircutting area and it's a dirty mess. If I had seen that part before I doubt I would have ever gone back. ~She is a dog grooming hack. Probably started out cutting her own dogs hair at home and opened a salon. ~If you don't care what your dog looks like, or have a dog that just needs bathing, you are probably safe. My background. I live in bush Alaska and have a toy poodle whose hair I cut myself, and it looks professionally done. So, one could say that I'm particular. However, having to cut my dogs hair, I understand the difficulties, and when I have the luxury of having someone else do it, I describe what I want, and take what I get. This last summer I was living in the Hills and took my dog to Brass Hydrant three times over the summer. Even though I would clearly explain how I wanted his hair done, he always emerged with the same dome shaped head with the rest of him sheared off. Oh well, it's summer, who cares. They always forgot something, especially toenail clipping. I had to turn the car around and go back twice to have them clipped. Once I even had her do his face again because there was hair sticking up all over it. After the last one I just let his hair grow until I returned to Alaska and began doing it myself. Back to the Hills to visit for Thanksgiving. My dog rolled in something black and only a full bath was going to get him clean. Traveling and without supplies I called Brass Hydrant and they accepted him right away, and. Relieved, I dropped him off and said, "Just a wash and blow dry". She repeated to me, "You just want him washed and dried?" I said, "Yes, unless there is a wild hair or two sticking out, you can trim them, but just a wash and dry." (poodle hair, being curly, as it is, often looks uneven after a fresh wash and sometimes it needs evening up) They called me in an hour and said he was done. I went to pick him up, was charged a full haircut price, but even tipped ten bucks because I was so grateful they had gotten me in. Then they brought my dog out. There he was with his winter German clip, with inch long haircut all over his body (as I like it) and a dome sheared head!! I was stunned she had cut the hair on his head off. He looked like he had a buffalo hump. I said, "You cut his hair?" She said she just evened it up. I said, "That isn't evened up, you cut the hair on his head off." She said, "Well, that's what we do when we do a bath." "I said now he is all out of balance?" She doesn't apologize, just shrugs and says, "That's how we do it" I emphasized I had told her that I wanted NO haircut and started to walk out and she whispered, "Then don't come back." I heard it, and it ticked me off. I turned around and said, "Fix it.." She grabbed the dog and I followed her in back and she said, "What do you want me to do?" I said, "At least blend his head into his neck. You are a GROOMER, balance it out, fix it." She looked at me like she had no clue, so I said, "Just let me do it." She practically threw the scissors at me. I tried to cut the dogs hair but he was so excited to see me he wouldn't hold still. Her scissors were as dull as a butter knife and the lights were off and she didn't bother turning them on. I managed to fix a jagged mess on the head she had just "groomed", and took a little hair off his neck so the buffalo hump went away. As I was leaving I said to her, "What if I had his hair cut that way for a reason, what if it was a show cut, or I was having pictures taken?" She snottily said, "That is OBVIOUSLY not a show cut." I lost it and yelled, "It doesn't F^&%ing matter what kind of cut it was, that's the way I wanted it!" Her husband comes charging out of the back room and says he's calling the cops. I told him not to bother, that I was leaving, but then I looked at her and said, "AND.......you don't even offer any money back... AND...you don't even say you are SORRY????? She says, not with the way you are yelling. I said, "I have been here for 20 minutes and you didn't offer to fix it, give me any money back, not even the generous tip I gave you, and NOW I am yelling!" Her husband is in the background on the phone, yelling at me, "Are you going to leave?" I looked at her and said, "I'm leaving, but this will be on YELP. Keeping my promise. read more

I am shocked at the comments and poor customer service. They handed me back my boss's fur baby with a sizable chunk of fur missing from her backside. Apparently, she is now suffering from their lack of training and control of not only her, but the other fur patrons and as a result, she gets to look like the freak show dog. A groomer's guard apparently came off when another dog barked, the phone rang and apparently, all mayhem must have happened at the same time. The owner told me, "it's only hair" and not to be upset. Oh really, do you tell your stylist at the salon if she hacked off a huge piece in the back...don't worry about it? Every excuse to make it sound like they really don't give a care. I could stop over to have my credit card refunded. Nope, not stepping foot in that place again. Send me a check for your screw up and I'll tell folks who care about their fur babies to head far away. I had a horrible experience. When I went to check in my springer spaniel who really needed to be shaved and nails trimmed and ears (both cleaned and mats cut out), they did nothing I asked. When my sister picked her up, she was bathed, and nails partially cut, and some of the mats taken out. She still had really long hair and her ears were really dirty. They still charged us $40 for nothing! The groomer was apologetic but never fixed anything so we will NOT be going back there and telling everyone else to not go there. read more

Our long haired cat will be going in for her 3rd summer haircut at the Brass Hydrant on Saturday. This little girl is no picnic, but she has come out with claws trimmed and perfectly clipped for summer. There has never been a nick on her, and she's never come down with an infection or disease after being there. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews here, but Deb has done an awesome job on our cat. read more
