No delivery & customer service. This is the worst I've experienced. Lack of customer service, especially supporting the customer.

They have decent prices and wide selection. They will order your favorites if they don't already carry it.

Well, it seems the consensus here on Yelp is the staff members in this liquor store do not know how to treat fellow human beings. My husband and I went in to pick up some goodies. As we walked in there were 2 women behind the counter and we said "Hello" to them. They said nothing back. Strike 1. As we browsed we noticed all of the price tags had been removed. Strike 2. As we walked out saying "thank you", one of the women made a "pssshh" type noise/expression. Strike 3. If giving this poor excuse of a business ZERO stars was possible, I'd be thrilled to do so as they darn well earned it! read more

Since moving to Louisville I've had occasion to visit this store a couple times. They're conveniently located if you happen to need groceries at the nearby King Soopers, but otherwise not as accessible from the road as the Union Jack located nearby at 95th and South Boulder. They have an OK selection, but eagerly take suggestions. Their prices are acceptable, but not the best in town. Oddly, they were the one place I could find open after 8PM the Sunday evening before Memorial Day. So, perhaps they're your go-to place if you have an event late on a Sunday. Otherwise, I would tend to prefer Union Jack for their selection and easy access. For those hunting things Gluten Free they carry New Grist and New Planet beer in 6-packs. read more

I think there might be some cultural misunderstandings in the comments here. We just had the nicest chat with the woman working. We commented on their expanded Riesling selection and ended up trading stories about our trips to Germany. They are very conveniently located and always have a few of our favorite wines. Never again will I even try to spend my money here. Went to dinner and had half a glass of wine and left with my 20 year old son. Asked him to stop by brass monkey to buy a bottle of white wine they refused to sell to me because they smelled alcohol on my breath. WHAT?? I said oh I'm not driving and we just came from dinner and I'm obviously not intoxicated They refused and both sisters ganged up on me. So disrespectful and awful. I've never had a bad experience at Brass Monkey, NEVER once has anyone there treated me poorly. They've always been friendly and nice. They don't have the best selection compared to other liquor stores or are very organized but I can usually find the beer I'm looking for (at least a close substitute). I wish it was possible to give zero stars. Maybe even negative stars. These people are the most judgmental clerks I've ever met in my life. I wish I could initiate a boycott of their business. I walk in and am followed and treated like a thief; by the time I go to pay my I.D. Is scrutinized like I'm some kind of fraud. I've managed to progress through a transaction to the point of pulling out my money only to be HUMILIATED and accused of drinking (MY SECOND JOB IS AT A BAR). Absurdly insulting. I have been going to Brass Monkey for years to buy wine because that is their main inventory. Two days ago a got a 6-pack of beer from them and it was flat and skunky. I opened 2 different cans of beer to verify that the whole 6-pack was flat and it was. So I took all six cans back to the Brass Monkey to see if they could do anything for me. When I got there, they made me feel like it was my fault for the flat beer. I would not recommend buying beer from them and personally I will never go back. read more

My friend and I went in and were treated extremely disrespectfully. I'm 24, and my friend is 27 and his ID was bent (not scanned) and called invalid. I tried to show them my ID and they wouldn't even look at it saying they "refuse to do business with us". I asked them for an explanation of why m, and they kept repeating "we have the right to refuse business" which I UNDERSTOOD but was offended and confused as to why we got no explanation. Going to Brass Monkey is very convenient for me. The owner is always super nice to me and my one year old child. Maybe there was a miscommunication with pervious reviewers. I wish i could give this review a 0 star. Very judgemental and rude. They stare at you while you shop as if you were a thief. They have claimed that i have had to much to drink even when i havent had anything so refused to sell to me. They study my ID every time i visit and dont think it is me in the picture. Open late after almost all other liquor stores in town have closed--even on Sundays. Can't beat that. They've saved my late social events more than once. Prices are a lot cheaper than Centennial Liquor and a heckuva lot cheaper than Superior Liquor. They've never accused me of anything--always very friendly--and the same people work there every day. read more

Great little family-owned place. I've been going there for years since they are within walking distance from my house. There used to be a particular brand of gin I liked, and they said they made sure to keep it in stock because they knew I liked it. I'm shocked by the reports of rudeness as all the employees are extremely friendly to me and my wife. English is not their first language - I think it is a probably a misunderstanding. read more

I have been treated disrespectfully at this liquor store multiple times. I am a 24 year old woman, they followed me around the store as if I was getting ready to steal a 24 rack. When I went to make the actual purchase she studied my ID for a few minutes. She then asked for my card to make sure the names matched which is no issue. She ran my card and handed me the receipt to sign. As she pushed it towards me she told me she would not sell me liquor because my eyes were red. Mind you I worked a 15 hour plus day. I told her it was fine as long as she reimbursed my purchase. She would not give me my credit card back even after she reimbursed me. I politely told her to call the police if there was any issue. As soon as I said that she handed me my card. I then went down to Union Jack and bought alcohol no problem. I talked to the salesman there and he said many people come from Brass Monkey with complaints of being disrespected by the owners. This place is super convienent, being right next to my local grocery store. So when I went here today after a looong day of running errands with my 11 month old, to pick up beer for my husband and got quizzed if I had been drinking. Well, needless to say I was taken aback. First off, I wish I had been drinking! I haven't had a drink in like 2 years!! And I had a hellatios day and my last stop, with my baby in my arms, just stepping out from behind the wheel, somehow I look like I am drunk? You couldn't get alchohol on a breathalyzer if I blew for a week! And besides, isn't this a liquor store where they sell booze? What gives!!! I'm not exactly sure why I feel so insulted. I think maybe because I am out here busting my butt trying my best to be a good mom. If it was possible to give 0 stars, I would. I have had several rude interactions in this liquor store. On football Sunday, I was staying sober so that I could be a D.D. For any of my friends that may have needed a ride. One of my friends asked me to go grab some beer. Since I only had my I.d with me and had forgotten my wallet, I took my friends credit card... Understandably at check out, the woman said since the name on the credit card and ID were not the same she could not sell me liquor... I said OK and that I would be back with my friend whose card it was. When I got back to the store with my friend who's credit card it was we were at checkout and The woman checking us out looked at both of us, gave a rude and condescending chuckle, and proceeded to tell me that she would not sell to my friend because I had told her that my friend was drunk... I had never had more of an interaction with the woman besides a couple of words the first time in the store. Point being, the interaction was extremely unpleasant, condescending, and rude! My friend that I brought back with me does not even drink alcohol. Please consider before supporting a poorly ran business. At the least, respect needs to be given to compliant customers. read more

I can't believe some of the reviews on here. The ladies who work here are always friendly. They say hi when I come in the door and are always friendly with a bit of small talk and ask if they can help me find anything. They're open when a lot of other places are closed. Very bad service. Poor and unfriendly. They were rude to my wife and would not sell her a chocolate beer because they said claimed she had been drinking. She came back to our car crying. My wife is 57 and we have lived in Louisville for 30 years and she hardly ever drinks. These people made her cry. They are very rude. Puzzled about some of the negative comments here: this is a wonderful shop run by nice people who will always go out of their way to stock your favorite wine. They have some of the best prices in town. It's a small store so obviously if you need a huge selection this is not it: however, their stock is inteliigently put together, they're responsive, and people are always coming in and having friendly exchanges with the owners. read more

We were stocking up for three days of skiing up in Frisco. While the others bought the food, I bought the liquor. This was truly my first time in the store, They had everything that we needed. I have no idea if the prices were good, but since it is all resold products, It is probably quite limited in price variation. We are from North Carolina, where the state sells all the liquors. I came on here to leave this review and am surprised to find I am not the only one who was treated extremely poorly by the staff as I have had fine experiences in the past. I have purchased alcohol from this store on several occasions and never had an issue. That changed today. At the register, the woman asked immediately if I had been drinking- was I sure? Um, yes, I am absolutely sure that I had not been drinking. Then I had my ID checked THREE times. After the third time, I was again asked for my birth year. I'm sorry lady, had you been drinking? You could not seem to retain the information presented to you four times. This sort of behavior is not worth my time. There are plenty of other liquor stores in the area to bring business to. Worst liquor store ever. They kept my credit card after their machine went down, insisting my card had not been charged. They offered me cash in case I was charged and then locked the door on me when I refused to sign an IOU in case I wasn't charged. WTF? They can barely speak English. Brass Monkey is usually my go-to place to pick up wine, and that probably won't change. The women who work there have always been civil to me and I've had no problem with them. However, the last time I went in, there was a young man (20-25) working, who I'm guessing is the son or grandson of a woman who works there. I went in to find a liquor I had never heard of, but was in a recipe I was making. The young man was on his cell phone when I walked in, and was very clearly annoyed that I walked in during his phone call. I asked if they carried the liquor I was looking for, and he immediately said "no, we don't have that." I had a suspicion that he was just trying to get me to leave so he could continue his personal conversation, so I stayed and browsed to see if I could find it myself. He kept trying to get me to leave by telling me they "definitely" didn't have what I was looking for, and I should go somewhere else, and didn't even try to help me. WELL, I found what I was looking for, and he was AGAIN clearly annoyed that he had to stop his phone call to ring me up. Again, this was just one negative experience I had, but I found it extremely rude. In this economy, small businesses like Brass Monkey need to focus on customer service and make sure their employees understand what the consequences are of alienating their customers. read more
