Cons: Steak was not cooked the way we ordered it. Potatoes were cold. Shrimp was bland. Pros: drinks were good and service was great. Christian was a very good waiter.

The waitress was very friendly and professional. The restaurant was nicely decorated and elegant. We started with charcuterie board and ended with sampling of desserts. The steak was juicy and of the fries were crispy of the steak and fries. The chicken was fresh and creamy. The duck was delicious

We went first dinner on a cold weekday in April and found it refined yet very comfortable. The food was great, we both had the chicken supreme. The service was great!

We enjoyed Brasserie 701! Just went for lunch, the portions were large and well made, and the restaurant is really open and bright inside, I'd definitely go back!

We visited Brasserie 701 this past weekend and had a wonderful time and our waitperson, Melissa, was amazing! She has the perfect personality...cheerful, professional and a joy to be around. And our meals were "spot on"! And the restaurant has a great vibe with lots of friendly people and old-world charm...we will be back soon! Cheers, John & Jean

Brasserie 701 located in an historic building with cathedral ceilings and chandeliers. So historic that they used a heavy crane to lift window washing platforms besides the building. White tablecloths, wine glasses, water glasses, cloth napkins, the works. Wife had the CAN29$ 2 course lunch special of onion soup and pan seared seabass. The onion soup had onions, gruyere cheese, red wine, maple syrup and beef broth. Could definitely taste the sweetness of the maple syrup. The serving size of the seabass was large, at least 7 ounces. Unusual in that it came with artichokes. I had the CAN35$ 3 course lunch special of house salad with homemade vinaigrette and Parisian gnocchi with lamb. The house salad had carrots and raw onions besides lettuce, covered with a thick creamy vinaigrette sauce, not too sweet, but just right. The Parisian gnocchi came with garlic, pearl onions, peas covered with a rich sauce, and delicious pieces of lamb. For dessert had the chocolate mousse with bits of raspberry and blackberry. Of course, wife wanted half. Was looking for the gnocchi with drunken noodles, but those reviews were from 2016. You know you're dining someplace special when the restaurant has its own logo on the dishware.

I came here for a weekday dinner and the restaurant was almost full when I arrived. I got lucky that I had a reservation. It's located perfectly within walking distance from both Notre Dame and old port. I really liked the vibe; many groups were enjoying their food, drinks or dessert. The staff are helpful and friendly. I originally came in for an appetizer, but the dessert menu was so attractive that I decided to go with appetizer and dessert. I got lucky that they weren't out of escargot. So I tried "Escargot in Parsley Sauce" after my complementary bread and butter. I really like the combination of parsley sauce with olives and puff pastry. I also enjoyed "Rocher Praliné" for my dessert. I'm happy I hadn't had my main course as it is very rich.

Brasserie 701 was my restaurant of choice for my Christmas morning brunch! It did not disappoint! My server Tristan went above and beyond- he was incredibly busy but still made time to offer a few suggestions around Montreal "from a local". I really appreciated this banter as he gave me tips and tricks and insider info on the places I was already planning to visit. Once a year I award a server 100% tip for being incredible, and Tristan was my 2024 recipient! Thank you so much! The buffet was officially supposed to begin at 10am. I was seated around 950 and everyone was floundering about setting up the buffet. It seemed like nobody was in charge and everybody was unsure of their role. I didn't even get water or a Bonjour until about 1020! But it was smooth sailing from then on out! There was a hot table with beef bourginon, eggs Benedict and salmon. The cold table featured different salads- classic Caesar, beet salad and quinoa salad. The dessert table was far off on the side and I'm not sure many people even saw it (I was sitting across from it). The sunshine hits in the most lovely way through the windows of Brasserie 701. It's perfect for taking photos! The building is beautiful from the outside as well! It's right down the street from Notre Dame basilica. Thank you for the loveliest way to spend Christmas morning!

The food was amazing! The wait staff was attentive and for the quality of the food and ambiance it was affordable. We would go back next time we are in Montreal.

Everything -food -service - ambiance was awesome. Although I forgot to take a picture of the onion soup -hands down the best I had in quite a while. A taste of wine cooked in a light broth with crunchy cheese on top perfected it. The fillet mignon was as expected -not the best but certainly good. The bouillabaisse was fantastic. They did not have mussels so they substituted extra shrimps. The broth was rich and the cod was butter soft. The service was excellent.

Fantastically friendly staff. Great ambiance. Great location. Do not expect fast service so leave enough time! We kept it simple tonight... Steak Frites all around. The flank steak had a nice flavor. The butter topping was a perfect compliment to it. Fries were natural cut. Decent size serving. Desert was Saint Honore. Tres bien! A great dish for fans of vanilla! Right next to the Basilica so great place to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks when visiting.

smoked salmon, salmon tartare, burrata salad
    Hana T.

We missed brunch by 5min so they immediately changed to their lunch menu unfortunately. So we only ordered lighter appetizers. The smoked salmon was fresh, it was served with mini pancakes that were slightly dry. The tartare was solid, it came with lots of fries and chips. I enjoyed the burrata, it's creamy and brings moisture to the salad. The interior design is very modern and clean! So I think I would've enjoyed it more with brunch food.

This restaurant is right across from the church of Notre Dame. We came here for dinner one night. It is located in the hotel de armas. The lighting in the restaurant was by dry cozy and romantic. It wasn't loud and you can have a conversation comfortably. We had a nice time. We ordered the bread as an appetizer and I got a Ma Dulcinee cocktail. For dinner I ordered the filet mignon and a parsnip soup. The filet mignon was one of the best I have had! The parsnip soup was full of flavor and nice and smooth. The mashed potatoes were also good and soaked in the juices from the steak. We had a great experience and I would recommend this place to you! The staff was attentive and checked in periodically.

There are 2 sides of the restaurant: the more casual order what you want brasserie side and then the fancier multi-course chef menu side. I chose the brasserie side, where I had a reservation for a bar seat - turns out that wasn't really that necessary as there were several individual bar seats open; A group would probably have a difficult time getting a seat on a Friday evening though. For drinks, I had a paper plane and a last word. Those are my two go to cocktails for nicer bars, and they pulled them off fantastically (they also knew what I was talking about which is kind of rare for the last word). For an extra nice touch, they clipped an actual paper plane to the paper plane drink. Fun! For food, I ordered the Duck Confit. It was super crispy on the outside, but the meat was super tender and juicy and melted off of the bone. My mouth is watering while thinking about it. It also came with bread service. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I would give it a 4/5 - it was a little more bland than others I've had - not bad at all, but not my favorite one of all time. They seem to be serious about their coffee (see pictures). Since I was sitting right in front of it I had to order one to go with the tiramisu. I had a basic americano, and it was a great addition. My only real complaint is the bar seating felt a little bit exposed as the main walkway through the restaurant goes along the bar seating. Drinks 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 5/5, Ambience 4/5

We started with oysters from PEI and New Brunswick. Loved that they let you choose the units so we only ordered 4 (2 each). We also had as appetizer their foie gras parfait and tomatoes from our garden. Both we wonderful choices. The tomatoes were perfect for the season with a beautiful balance of tomatoes, stracciatella and focaccia. Foie is a classic and loved the grilled bread and pickled vegetables to accompany it. Our entrees were the lamb rump, braised shoulder and butcher cut steak and frites which was the hangar steak. The lamb was delicious and very hearty in a good way. The steak was perfectly prepared and the frites stayed warm the entire meal with their presentation. We ended with their house fav passion fruit pavlova. Light and airy texture with lovely flavor. Nice way to compete the meal!

Got to try some delicious food during my short weekend trip to Montreal Quebec…read more A friend organized a lunch for everyone before we all headed to the airport and funny enough this restaurant was in the hotel my friend and i stayed at. The restaurant was super quiet when we went as it was a Monday afternoon when most people were probably at work. The interior was quite elegant very clean and royalty looking. The service was 10/10. Waiter was very attentive and we could tell he paid attention to detail. He gave great food recommendations and definitely had knowledge of what's on the menu. Now as for how the food and prices were? Prices i'd say are pretty standard and reasonable. The squash soup was so yum and comforting. It had a puree texture to it. Good serving size. I would order it again! We obviously had to have some mimosas and yes we paired it with orange juice. The duck confit may have been a bit too much for me. Large portion and i couldn't even finish half of it. But it wasn't dry and the veggies had a nice crunch and the lentils were very filling and healthy. The flavour notes all went together but i'd definitely say the dish was more on the healthier side. The chicken supreme on the other hand .. although healthy it was still cheesy and buttery. Considering it was chicken breast it didn't even taste dry so i definitely appreciated that. The risotto paired with it was the star of the show! The restaurant takes resos online and they do have brunch on the weekends, happy hour menu looks promising. If i'm ever in town again and in the area i'd want to try their happy hour or chacuterie spread!

The beef carpaccio, was for me a little bland, I would have hit it with a touch of salt, but once you got a piece th at had balsamic drizzle it really opened it up and changed my mind. (I wish there was a little more of the balsamic. My husband had the Cornish hen, and I had the filet mignon, both were absolutely amazing, I even stole a little of his Bleu cheese for my steak. Steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing. Our server was on point, his name was Pedro, I had asked him to send out a dessert privately and it was our 1 year anniversary, even though we were not dressed for the occasion as we were both exhausted from travel, We will probably be in for lunch tomorrow!

We were early and our table wasn't quite ready yet, so they kindly found space for us at the kitchen bar. Turns out that was a perfect place to for us to wait. We were able to talk to Chef Heather and watch her work her magic on the dishes she was plating. We took advantage of this time to order the deviled eggs and some drinks. Loved the eggs! Once we moved to our table, we all noticed that even though we may have had a designated server, everyone that we spoke to graciously treated us like we were the most important people they were taking care of that night. The teamwork amongst the staff was incredible to see and feel. At one point, Fred let us know that they only had 2 buns left, so if we wanted a burger, he needed to know immediately and he would save them for us. Two things stood out about that conversation. First, they make their bread in house and once the buns for that day are gone, no other burgers will be sold. Second, I believe Fred just happened to hear us discussing the menu and heard someone say they were going to get the burger. At that point, he stepped in to share the news about the buns and gave us the option to put those on hold even though everyone else was not ready to order yet. He certainly could have pretended he didn't hear us and we would have been none the wiser, but his attention to customers and their experience really made an impression on all us. In addition to excellent customer service by everyone, the food we had was fantastic. Personally, I had the scallops and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. After dessert, Fred was kind enough to sit down with us and share some of his favorite spots for food and drink. Half of our crowd actually ran into him later at one of his suggested bars, so his list was very honest!
