A friend and I had an early supper here before attending a show across the street, The place is very warm and comfortable, but nice, well maintained. Good vibe. The service was impecable. Our server knew the menu inside an out, made wonderful recommendations, and was very pleasant. The food was lovely. I had such a fabulous time at Liverpool House when I went for dinner. Our reservation was at the bar, which was a total vibe. This is the sister restaurant of Joe Beef, which is quite famous, and I am happy that we popped in here on a Saturday night. The space is super charming, it feels like your coolest friend's house without being pretentious. I started with a dirty martini. There was a tuna special that night which we got, along with sourdough which was divine. The special of the night was a ridiculous steak that came with blue cheese, the best pickle i have ever had, and crispy onions. It was huge, so split between two people it was perfect. We also upon suggestion from our server ordered a bottle of a wonderful red wine from Burgundy, France. They are famous for their lobster spaghetti, which we did not order so I guess I will just have to go back. This was both a cozy and flirty spot to have a meal and I really enjoyed it! read more

Had a wonderful meal here with some wonderful friends last night. We ordered a mix of food and ate everything family style. Overall, really happy with our experience. We ordered the crab dip special which was delicious, and also ordered one of the fish specials. We also got the steak for 2 and the market vegetable (two kinds of squash in this case), as well as some fries. This was a great amount of food. It's a busy and bustling restaurant, with cozy vibes. Service was pretty solid. We felt a little rushed which was not great (we still had wine in our glasses and had just turned down dessert and we were asked to wrap it up) but we really enjoyed our time overall and the food was very well cooked. My party ordered the scallop crudo and salad for appetizers, lobster spaghetti, duck magret, and steak frites for entrees and the black currant basque cheesecake for dessert. Our favorites were the appetizers - crudo was fresh, salad tangy with a crunch from the pepitas. Lobster spaghetti a bit overpriced and the alcohol wasn't completely cooked off. I found Liverpool House to be such a letdown. The food was mediocre and overpriced, and the service and dining experience were both far from great. I came here with a group of seven and we were seated on the outside patio. Normally I would be happy about this, but when we went it was HOT and there was no sort of shade to block the DIRECT sunlight from shining directly into my face. Already off to a bad start as soon as we sat down :( And because we had a group of seven, they told us the only option was a pre fixe menu, where they would bring out a selection of their best dishes. Normally I would be ok with this, but there were definitely some dishes that I was way more eager to try and some that I would have avoided. After being seated for about 20 minutes, the first dish to come out was oysters. These were decent, but nothing to write home about. We were given about a dozen to split between the seven of us. Then, we had to wait about 30 minutes before our next course came out. This was where most of my frustration with the service came from. We were all super hungry and awkwardly just waiting for the next dish to come out. The next couple of appetizers to come out were a beef tartar (decent taste, I loved the bread that came with it, but nothing special), a salad with lots of seeds which was tasty, and a tomato pastry of some sort that was probably one of the highlights of the meal for me. Luckily the service picked up a bit at this point, and before too long our mains came out. We got the following: Steak - not good at all, don't get steak here Lobster pasta - really good! Halibut & Mussels - the halibut was seasoned wonderfully, but the Mussels were a miss Carrots - horribly cooked and no flavor, skip these Fries - good but nothing amazing And finally for dessert, we got the chocolate cake and strawberry sorbet. They were both good, but if I were to come here again I would definitely pass on desserts. Overall I feel like we got completely ripped off and I absolutely would not recommend eating here. Our total ended up being over $200 each and for that price I expect a significantly better meal and service. My two stars is being generous, and I gave that over a one star because some of the dishes were prepared well. I'd give the food a 5/10, the service a 4/10, and the overall value & experience a 1/10. Loved it! The atmosphere was casual but cool. Had the server recommend drinks and apps and it was delicious, so t k ow what the drink was but it went down nice. We had a pork belly in a salad with mustard dressing it was outstanding, as were the oysters. Came here after trying to go to Joe Beef which had no openings. It was my fault to try and go with no reservations. The wait staff recommended me to come to Liverpool House and it did not disappoint. I ordered three oysters (all different types) which came with a ton of lemon, cocktail sauce, hot sauce, freshly grated horse radish, and mignonette sauce. I would definitely recommend getting a few if you are in the mood. I had a Vesper which was tasty. It was a bottled drink and it came poured in the coupe glass with the extra left in the bottle for me to drink. I also had the Lobster spaghetti, which was really tasty. We all shared and everything was delicious. Stand outs are the crudo, tartare, and the plum sauce. I would love if it were bottled and sold. Best crudo and tartare I have ever had. The fries were also delicious. It's "easy" to make a great steak and fish dish, but needed to highlight the fries to show the attention to detail. Loved our waitress too. I sent my in-laws to Liverpool House for a special occasion dinner, and it could not have been more perfect! We reached out the day of to see if we could pre-pay and surprise them, and Mike went above and beyond to make it happen. Huge shoutout to him for helping us pull off the surprise and making the evening so memorable. My in-laws absolutely loved their meal. They are still raving about it. After experiencing the tasting menu at Liverpool House, I've added it to my favorite restaurants of all time. We chose to do it without the additional wine tasting and instead order drinks a la carte. Personally, I think there's so much food and such a variety of options that I would have just been distracted by wines. The highlight of the meal for me was the steak frites (the sauce was to die for), beef tartare (my first time tasting it!), lobster pasta and this little cheese and tomato tarte/pastry we were served in the beginning. I found the desserts to be a little underwhelming but the entrees were great. I would definitely suggest going with a big group! read more

Overhyped. I'm honestly surprised by the high ratings at Liverpool. The food was mediocre at best and the prices were a bit unreasonable. Lobster spaghetti was $70 and it only included half a small lobster tail and 1 claw. The noodles were plenty (and bland) but I would've expected them to provide the entire lobster (or even the entire half) for $70. Steak was good but nothing memorable. If I could go back in time I would probably dine somewhere else. read more

After a fun, all-day tour to Quebec City, my husband and I were looking for dinner near our AirBnB. It was late so we thought we would just pop in to a pizza place. Although it was just before 9 and they were advertised to be open until 10, we were told the kitchen was closed. Boy, was that our good fortune! We went across the street to Liverpool House where we were warmly welcomed. We decided to just enjoy a few items from the appetizer menu. We started with delicious oysters. They were served with a mignonette, cocktail sauce and grated fresh horseradish. I had never seen fresh horseradish. Our server told us it's a root vegetable and kindly brought some from the kitchen for us to see. We ordered a half dozen oysters and they brought six plus an extra. Our server told us that is their custom. How lovely is that? We also ordered steak tartare (our first time trying it), and the foie gras breakfast sandwich that we were told has been on their menu since the restaurant started. Both were suggested by our server. His recommendations were spot on! The steak tartare was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And the foie gras sandwich was such a delectable combination of flavors. He also selected wines for us and recommended a unique corn cake and buttermilk ice cream dessert that was yummy. Throughout our time at the restaurant, every person who served us was warm and engaging. The food was truly special. We went here on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar - had a glass of wine each recommended by our super chill and helpful waiter and THE BEST steak au poivre of my life. That gravy is something I'm still drooling over. We literally made a reservation for that Friday night and ordered it again! The chicken thigh dish and the smorgasbord was also delicious! Loud and vibrant spot seemed like it would've been a fun spot at first until we met our waiter. As Americans, we always try to be mindful and respectful of other countries given our notorious reputation - but the way we were met and treated by our waiter was unlike anything I've ever experienced anywhere in the world. It starts when we asked if he spoke English, and he laughs at us and repeats what he says as if he were ashamed we were there. My partner was excited for the food and we were keen on what we would like to order so we kind of overlooked that fact, only to be told by our waiter very rudely to wait as that's not how he does things and gave us a couple of options of how we could order. He essentially gave us an ultimatum as to how we are to order things as if he were the vibe curator, and was even rude about my partner trying a wine which he made her play a ridiculous "guessing game" when she was just curious to find out what she was drinking and had asked he tell us a few different times. We closed our tab immediately, tipped him out, and took our business elsewhere. At the end of everything, he told us that our people from the US are very similar to his, so I told him we might be, but also told him our people certainly don't treat foreigners poorly and are much nicer. Such a letdown. I think the worst part was the snooty service that was fairly uneducated about the menu. The server was overly excited to explain the menu in French (spoke perfect English with zero accent) but as we were asking questions she mixed up duck and chicken even after I questioned it. I also asked a follow up on the appetizer of what type of cheese it had; no idea it even had cheese but she had sold it to us as her favorite. Another front of house person started clearing our plates (that still had food on them) while I was literally chewing. The restaurant had multiple open tables and no one waiting. It was all just very unwelcoming which was the polar opposite of everything we experienced in Montreal. The steak and frites were meh. The steak was medium to medium well but we ordered it medium rare and the fries we just fries. The mussels were good; nothing exceptional but nothing bad. The mushroom tartlet was the standout; this was the server's favorite (even though she had no idea what was in it). He told us that it just needed club soda, which did nothing. When bringing the check he tried to downplay what had happened by referring to the incident as just a "small dot" despite there being about 9 or 10 oil splatters across the sweater's arm and chest. Greeted warmly by Matt, we were looking forward to a nice meal especially after all the positive reviews on Yelp. While the service was warm from our server as well, that's where the enjoyment ended. We dine out often and enjoy many cuisines, so it surprised us to not find anything on the menu that really piqued our interest. Even the lobster pasta dish that we saw our neighbors eating beside us looked sparse on lobster and completely unappetizing. And we love lobster! We even contemplated going elsewhere since we were visiting and don't like to waste our precious dining evenings on less than interesting experiences. We each eventually landed on something that we would hopefully enjoy. Then the food came. The food was lackluster, which surprised us given all the positive reviews. The first course (scallop crudo) was minuscule. It was really more of an amuse bouche. Overpriced and only "meh". Our mains were beyond disappointing. I ordered the pork chop, spaetzle and peas and it was so salty, it was inedible. His dish was chicken, I think, but nowhere on the menu did it mention it was BATTERED AND FRIED, as if it had, he would have ordered differently. He doesn't like fried foods. However the kitchen made the questionable choice to put a crispy exterior on the chicken, then douse it with a sauce, resulting in a soggy mess. It was also inedible. Our kind waiter noticed we weren't enjoying our dishes, and took them away. We asked for our check as at that point, we were tired of being crammed into our tight quarters and disappointed, but he brought us a complimentary dessert to make up for it, which was immensely kind. Alas, even the dessert, a raspberry "Charlotte" was a disgustingly amateurish sugar bomb. We couldn't even eat that....and my husband LOVES dessert and all things sweet! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place engulfs you in a very modern, laid-back, elegant, mature aura as soon as you walk in. The ceiling is low, the lights are low and the spaces are cozy. There's a small bar area toward the back as you walk in. If you go to the right you enter into another dining room where there is a big chalkboard with all of their available wine bottles and prices. I didn't really like this. They don't have a wine or drink menu for you to look at. You just have to look at the damn board. Really? I have to stand up and squint at the board in this dim light over people trying to enjoy their meal? I wasn't a fan. Safe to say I didn't have any wine. Moving on... Service: Cecile rubbed all 3 of us (my 2 coworkers and I) the wrong way almost the entire dinner until I broke the ice damn-near toward the end. She seemed to have an attitude and it turned us off. We were very close to asking for a new server or the very nice guy that made room for 3 guys with no reservations. We toughed it out though and after business slowed down a but she seemed to ease up. Maybe she was just busy? Maybe she was overwhelmed? I don't know. Anyway, once she loosened up we were able to make decent conversation with her. Food: The menu is small, but the enables the chefs to really knock it out of the park for the dishes that are offered. The food is freaking phenomenal. This was my first time ever having quail and my goodness I was blown away for sure. It came as an appetizer paired with roasted seasonal vegetables. It was fantastic and I couldn't get enough. For my entree I went with the duck. It was prepared rare and was so tender, juicy and sweet. Value: Bring the big bucks. All prices listed are in $CAD. My double Hendrick's gin drinks were $24.50 each. The quail was $21.00 and the duck was $40.00. This place isn't cheap, but you're absolutely paying for quality here so it's kinda worth it. Don't come trying to be cheap. This place was pretty cool... but I think one time is enough for me... Give it a shot, but be open minded with an open wallet. read more

The food was amazing and the bartenders were talented and friendly. Sister restaurant Joe Beef was full so I ended up a couple doors down at Liverpool House and couldn't be happier with the result. The two dishes I had were extraordinary. First was a classic beef tartar, tender, well-seasoned topped with egg yolk and served with a fried puff cracker made from beef tendon. It involves some food alchemy but the result goes perfectly with the tartar. For my main was the best rabbit dish I've had in ages. Prepared two ways. Leg was likely wood fired and had a Smokey and sweet exterior. The ambiance is a little ramshackle tending toward homey though. Walls decorated with bric-a-brac and seemingly random tiles, wallpaper and wood wainscoting covering the walls. The decor doesn't matter with food this good. Came here for date night not long after restaurants reopened for indoor dining (June 2021). The service was absolutely fantastic and the food was not too complicated but fresh and innovative. We asked the server to surprise us with about 7 appetizer dishes that she thought we would like. It included a seafood salad (which was amazing!!!), mussels in saffron, crab cake stuffed clams, beef tartare, buttercream cake, etc. We also ordered 4 glasses of wine which were all excellent choices recommended to us by our lovely waitress. The one vegan item on the menu is lacklustre and fails miserably at being remotely creative; I hope they know that way too much salt isn't the only spice in the entire world. This place is the definition of derivative. They actually are still serving veal and foie gras. C'mon people, it's 2022 and you people are still putting veal and foie gras on a menu? It's like they've never even heard of compassion or animal cruelty. Now, Liverpool House is supposed to be a great Montreal restaurant and it's namesake, Liverpool, has historically been a major port city where flavourful goods produced by Britain's slave trade would have had arrived to pique the tastebuds of imperial colonialists. Liverpool House doesn't live up to that name. Liverpool was once a booming port city filled with sugar and spices that were mercilessly plundered from Britain's slave colonies around the world. Today, it seems like both Liverpool and Liverpool House are struggling to be relevant in a world that is fast becoming more flavourful and decolonised. Good riddance to the failing British Empire and long live everlasting freedom to all oppressed peoples (including quadrupeds and invertebrates and all nonhuman beings) mic drop, baby. Like most people, I wanted to go to Joe Beef. But thanks to Anthony Bourdain's endorsement, it's practically impossible to get a reservation. Good thing they have a sister restaurant right next door. But don't be fooled, the Liverpool House isn't easy to get into either. Make sure you make a reservation. I know the lobster spaghetti is the famous dish but I opted out. I went with the foie gras and rabbit for the appetizer. Then for my main, the duck. The sour cherries in both dishes were addicting. The staff and my cocktail were also in point. One of the best meals of my life! After receiving a recommendation for the foie gras breakfast sandwich, my partner made a reservation and from start to finish the meal was fantastic. We had the breakfast sandwich to start and it did not disappoint--at first I thought that there may be too many competing flavors; however, it was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. For entrees, we had the striped bass in a tarragon cream sauce with fennel and the pork shoulder and duck pie. Both dishes were delicious. We ended with the tiramisu--a classic and the perfect ending to a delightful meal. Phenomenal food coupled with amazing service and great ambiance made for a great night out.
