Well, well, finally time to review the first restaurant I dined at in Paris--only took me about four months to do this! LOL. Brasserie Martin definitely hit the spot. I had just arrived after a long train journey from Nîmes (not to mention a weird tech outage that made the trip even more exhausting). I'm not usually one for red meat, so eating here was a bit tricky. I went with the "catch of the day" because, honestly, when in doubt, fish it out! That's my go-to motto at French restaurants, and it hasn't let me down yet! The meal was decent--not mind-blowing, but solid. What really stood out was the ambiance; they took us to this cute little atrium area in the back, which added a cozy touch. Bon appétit, fellow patrons!

After arriving back in Paris, we stopped for lunch at Brasserier Martin. We started with our new favorite truffle sausage and cheese. For lunch, I had the Sandwich of the Moment made on Thierry Breton bread, PDO mature Comte, ham chiffonade, sauerkraut-style cabbage, horseradish mayonnaise and mustard seed pickles! It was absolutely delicious!!! The ladies all orders the rump steak with fries. The bearnaise sauce was to die for!!!

5/5 experience for me. What I loved the most about this spot was that it combined a fun vibe and aesthetic, fantastic food, prompt service and kind chefs. My husband and I were exhausted after a long day exploring and were considering staying at the hotel. I am so glad we decided to go out. We shared the snails and leeks to start which was adventurous of us. We loved both! We shared the tuna and stuffed mushrooms and holy cow. An amazing surf and turf type sharing experience. If you ever come and eat meat make sure you get the mushrooms.

The meat (flank) was hard to chew, was like rubber and when ordered medium well done they served it uncooked

Small but comfortable thanks to red leather banquetes, a tiled floor beneath brass ceilings and walls full of art, it is from a paper ledger that reservations are confirmed prior to seating at wood tables that require being slid aside to gain access. A locals sort of place, though the menu does offer English translations, fans of Bistro fare will find all the staples complimented by daily specials while the Wine list runs long yet quite affordable. Well-suited to families, especially on Sundays when so few Parisian Restaurants are open all day, starters come in the form of Escargot or French Onion Soup plus sizable slabs of Foie Gras and the chunky sort of housemade Terrine one rarely encounters outside of France. Far more affordable than tourist favorites, its place in the 11th undoubtedly part of the reason, main plates see Confit Duck done well without any fuss while Pepper Steak and Sweetbreads in reduced Soy are generous in terms of portion and flavor. Not a spot to skip Dessert, all but Ice Cream made on site, Chez Paul's Baba is denser than Ducasse's but no less delicious while the Œufs à la neige and Tarte Tatin are each classics prepared the right way.

The dining rooms were themed to represent cities and regions in France. And they are exquisite from floor to ceiling. I was told to make sure I made a reservation about a month in advance. I did not, I wasn't sure of my timing through the station. But there's a way to still enjoy the beauty and eat. Le Train Bleu also offers a bar area. Here there are several small lounges with luxury interiors. It is possible to sit in one of these areas, but you may have to wait. My timing was perfect. A 5 minute wait. The cozy spot had gorgeous dark paneling and felt so warm on a December day. The service is impeccable no matter where you sit. The bar menu is quite toned down from the restaurant area. Lighter bites for travelers in between trains. I am a croque Monsieur addicted and wanted one last one before leaving Paris. The presentation was very different from the traditional ones at most bistros. This one was rolled tight and sliced into sections. Still delicious ham and Emmental goodness. A fresh salad was on the side. A bowl of mixed olives arrived shortly after being seated to nibble on while waiting on the meal. Next visit, I enjoy the main dining room!!!

We came during the heat wave and beef tartare and the octopus dishes were not available because they apparently couldn't prepare them properly in this heat. Very surprised at this and perhaps a touch concerning? Complementary amuse bouche was nice featuring squash and it was chilled. Nice for a hot summer evening. Bread service featured two types of bread. Regular and multigrain. They provide a unique looking butter packaged like a bonbon. Had the special salad that featured tzatziki and tempura style shrimp with what looked like coleslaw. This was awful and overpriced. The tempura shrimp look like they came out of a box from Walmart. Oddly straight and all uniform sized. Coleslaw was mediocre. A rip of for €26 Also had the special cold fish dish. Perhaps it's not for me but I find it off putting. Creamy sauce with cold fish just didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, I like Japanese style food that features cold fish and kewpie or other mayos. This was not it. On the other hand, the table side carved roast lamb was fantastic and among one of the better lamb dishes I have had of late. Pricey but delicious. A must get. Service was tilted to the higher end but still tourist trap like. A good one time place. Get the lamb. Everything else is YMMV.
