We had really good service here and even though we came 30 minutes before kitchen closing, they accommodated us and allowed us to order more after. The ambience was pretty cool. They played old school rock 'n' roll and the waiter was on point and just providing us hospitality. I ordered steak and fries, and it was their special of the day I had asked for a medium, but I think it was a little bit too rare, but other than that, it was really good. My wife enjoyed her penne pasta as well. I wasn't too big of a fan on the dessert they recommended which was like a fried banana and melted chocolate lol. Quick, delicious lunch (at least my dish was) at an affordable price. We dropped in ona Tuesday at 12 and there were a few people already dining and some more diners trickling in. We were in and out in about 40 minutes, which seems suspect but I enjoyed my dish. I had duck confit, which cooked perfectly. It wasn't dry, so I don't suspect they are using heat lamps, microwaves, etc. Maybe they cook it until it's almost done and heat it all the way once it's ordered? It comes with a side salad and fries. But these aren't your basic fries. They're sliced potatoes fried until they're crispy. Hubby had the carpaccio, which we both thought was meh. It came topped with parmesan, and drizzled with a pesto sauce, which we thought was a bit odd. The beef itself was fine, nothing amazing but the pesto sauce just didn't do it for me. Service is attentive and friendly. Good option for lunch, especially for the area since it's located so close to the museums, right in between the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay. I wanted to eat somewhere walking distance from Musee d'Orsay. The place is pretty small and there is not outdoor seating, but I was seated right away around 2-3 pm on a Saturday. On this trip I was on a self-imposed "long layover" in Paris for under 48 hours so I had to eat every French food I like. I came here specifically because they had duck confit. The duck confit was excellent and I had to stop myself from eating all of those delicious potatoes that came with it. I've never had beef tartare and it was something I wanted to try, but it was served as a main with french fries. Even though I was on a 48 hours trip and allowed to eat and order whatever, I wasn't sure if I could resist a second heavy potato side, so I asked the waitress if there is any way if could be served with a side of salad and she said of course! so I had both the mains :) , they were about 16 euro each-- very affordable. I've never had beef tartare before, so I now have an n of 1 but I would definitely try it again. The waitress overall was very helpful answering questions in English about the food and advising me on the types of kir drinks. This place was a great find and I'll be back. read more

After a long morning at the Musée d'Orsay, we worked up a little appetite. While en route to Monoprix, we stumbled across Café de l'Empire. Like most Parisian brasseries, it was close quarters and pretty busy. Once again my French left much to be desired, but luckily knowing Spanish helped breach the language barrier. That being said we were seated very quickly and since it was a cool day, being seated inside was tolerable. Unfortunately I was too busy with my beer to take a picture of my poulet roti au jus with puree maison au beurre , but they were delicious. The chicken had enough of a roast to give you a crunch when you bit into it, but it was still juicy. The butter mash potatoes must've had a stick of butter in them, but that's what made them so delicious. Don't waste your time Les Antiquaires down the street and just go to Café de l'Empire if you're looking for a solid Parisian meal. read more

A great little find in St. Germain. Food there is really quite good, especially for the prices, which are around 15 Euro for a plate. I ordered the duck confit and it was hearty, tender, and filling. My dining companion got the steak, which was similar in quality and portion size. The ambiance and vibe is intimate, family-run, and very Parisian, with plenty of people-watching and prompt, accurate service. They have an English menu and are clearly used to tourists, but the place doesn't feel touristy in the least. This is was my first visit to France and I was a bit hesitant about liking the cuisine, but Cafe de l'Empire was great. We all loved the duck confit with the potatoes roasted in duck fat, cocotte eggs with bleu cheese cream, salade landaise (duck salad), and creme brulee. We liked it so much here that we had dinner here three times in the week that we spent in Paris. The duck was also cooked very well for the confit and the salad. it was crispy where it needed to be and was simply seasoned. I had never heard of cocotte before and was a bit skeptical about this appetizer, but it was so creamy and savory. It's like your eggs are just a creamy dip for your bread/toast. The bleu cheese is not overpowering or strong and adds the right amount of saltiness to the eggs - this is a must try, don't skip it. The salad has a lot of duck meat and is really an entree itself - the server even warned me, because I tried to order this salad AND an entree. The creme brulee was super light, creamy and not overly sweet. We could not have been happier with our dinners here and highly recommend having at least one meal here. read more

We found this little gem by Musee d' Orsay. It seems like a neighborhood spot. We were the only Americans in there and people kept coming in. They offer an English menu with the same prices as the French one..the service was very nice and quick. The duck confit was a good portion of thigh and leg, with crispy roasted potatoes. French Onion soup stayed hot in its little tureen almost the whole meal. One of our friends had the after dinner special of decaf espresso with little bites of pastry: a lemon macaron, mini creme brulee, a panda cotta with berry sauce and chocolate cake . The prices are extremely reasonable as compared to what you get in the US. Also, it was near the bus stop back to our Airbnb! read more

The inside was a bit stuffy from the Paris summer heat, but the vibe overall was lively and friendly. Service: When we arrived, we were told that there would be a 20-25 minute wait for a table, but we were seated in less than 10 minutes. Our waiter was friendly, and paying at the front was convenient and easy! Food: We first ordered a chocolate frappe and cappuccino. The chocolate frappe essentially tasted like powdered chocolate milk, but that wasn't a bad thing! The cappuccino was foamy and fresh. For our food, we ordered the grilled boneless rib steak with smoked wild thyme and homemade french fries, as well as the roast chicken with juice and homemade buttered mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked well but a bit bland, and the fries were pretty average. The chicken was juicy on the outside but drier closer to the bone, and the potatoes were on the saltier side. Nevertheless, it made for a filling meal. For dessert, we ordered the panna cotta, which was fruity and creamy, but we thought there was a bit too much berry coulis on top as the tarty taste was overpowering. Overall: Cafe de l'Empire did not impress nor disappoint us with their service or food. We appreciated it being conveniently located within walking distance of the Musée d'Orsay and being seated faster than expected, but we would probably look to explore other restaurant options in the area for lunch. read more

Both the potatoes and duck skin were nice and crispy. The steak frites, however, was tough, sinewy and barely edible. The "frites" were soggy and greasy (1/5). You might accidently skip this place and walk 1 block to l'Antiquaire, but you'd miss out. We, a family of 4 with two kids 7 and 8, were well greeted on a very late sunday afternoon during the last day of the Tour de France. There was a bit of a wait as the place was expextedly packed, but we decided to wait. We watched other diners eating and chatting. I noticed the seating was tight but normal by Paris standards. We finally sat down at a 4 top by the bar near the entrance, and somehow, my overweight american butt fit nicely. The kids had plenty of room. We ordered pasta and a cheeseburger for the kids, fish, and the flank steak for the adults. Portion wise they were perfect, i was satisfied and i am a big meat eater. If i had to guess, I'd say it was a 14ish to 16 oz steak. Hint, in France, when they ask you how you like it done ( "la cuisson"), ask for medium ("a point"), and it will come medium rare. The steak was so good, when my wife tasted it she closed her eyes and sighed. I told her that counted as cheating on her marriage. The cheeseburger was crazy good. My daughter almost finished the entire adult portion and asked me to help her finish it. One thing to note is that my daughter is pickier than Gordon Ramsay in kitchen nightmares. The pasta was fresh, and my other daughter couldn't stop eating them. We had to stop her for fear of a stomach ache from over eating. My only regret is that we had to leave early and couldn't stay for dessert as we were going to miss the tour de france arrivals. This place is very well priced. read more

The cafe is nestled in a corner. Inside, the decor has great character. Got there for lunch and the place was rather empty. Sat down and was greeted quickly. Ordered a beer and it was quite cold, which was perfect because it was hot outside - Paulaner to the rescue... Our only negative- was that we were shoved into a table next to a wonderful table of French ladies and their granddaughters... and they didn't let us down by showing their "French" attitude. It was fine- we dealt with them , ignoring as well as we could. But, didn't allow us to relax as much as maybe we would have. The tables outside would have been better - but were taken when we arrived. They have an American menu and the two ladies who were our waitstaff were friendly. They had several servers during our meal but the young lady who served us was five stars. I got a "light" salad which had so much meat, all so tasty. After reading several of the mixed reviews my best friend and I decided to give Café de l'Empire a shot. I ordered the duck confit and my best friend ordered the boneless rib steak. Not going to lie my duck a wee bit over salted; however, it was greatly balanced by the amazing fries that came with my dish. I could probably eat those fries for days. Taking a bite with the crispy salty duck, fries, and potato was heavenly. It became the perfect balance of salty, crispy, and soft. The boneless rib steak was a bit under seasoned; however, it was cooked to the perfect temperature. The meat was juicy and tender. It surprisingly paired very well with ketchup and fries as well. On top of the food we ordered a glass of Pinot noir. In my opinion the wine paired a lot better with the steak, bringing out the shuttle thyme seasoning. Our waitress was super sweet and seemed very genuine. The portions were huge and we both could not finish our whole plate; moreover, she was concerned because of that, we didn't like our food. We assured her the food was incredible and would def come back again some day. Great food and waitstaff! Would def recommend especially if you're looking to budget a bit like I was. Just don't expect a 5-star Michelin meal. Start with a bottle of wine as you work your way through lunch. We had the roast chicken in an amazing marseille-style sauce and puréed potatoes, and a classic tartine that was almost a foot long! I can't say enough good things about this place other then it was one of the best and reasonably priced meals I had in Paris. We went there after an exhausting day at the Musee' de Orsay and didn't want to get sucked into one of those overpriced tourist cafes across the street. This place was a 3 block walk away but well worth it. I had the special meat platter which consisted of a beef skewer done to perfection and potatoes au gratin which the proprietor said was his family recipe. Both were delicious and for 13 euros a bargain. My wife had a vegan salad which had quinoa, olives, arugula, garbanzos, tomatoes and other assorted veggies. She said the vinaigrette was flavorful but not overpowering. We capped our meal off with desert. I had the ever prescient crème brûlée and my wife had a sorbet with stewed fruit. This was one of the best meals I have had in Paris. After the museum, we were walking around the neighborhood and decided we wanted something to snack on. Whenever we travel, we try to eat as often as possible so we can try everything. Found good reviews for this place so decided to stop by for a small meal. The interior is very nice, waitress was very polite. After giving us the English menus, we asked what do you recommend for something lite. She said salad, very good salad. So I went ahead and ordered a duck salad thinking it will be a plate of leafs and some duck meat on top. What I got was a huge pile of duck meat in different forms and a few pieces of leaf. Duck confit, duck pate, etc. Wow, amazing. All for 10.90 only. I could not believe it. It was very tasty too. This was one of the best meal I have had in Paris.
