    "Lobster Thermidor"

Made a reservation for 1 at 6:45 on the restaurant's website which gets sent through a third party which the restaurant has to confirm themselves. Show up at 18:45 and was told that the reservation was not confirmed and that they can't seat me until 7:30. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full at this point. Whatever. I get back at 7:30, and the restaurant did not receive a massive influx of people between when I showed up and when they allowed me to sit. I'm there for one thing: the lobster Thermidor. I ordered it with a French onion soup which was bland. Finally get the Thermidor at around 8:20. Right off the bat, there are problems. The claw meat is served still in the claws, not mixed into the meat mixture, and the heads themselves were not cleaned, still containing hard connective tissue and the gills. As for the mixture itself, it was more or less just a layer of cheese draped over the body of the lobster. None of the lobster had been cut up, including the tails. By the time I finish picking through all the lobster meat, the massive influx of guests finally do arrive, which is where the next problem becomes clear: the restaurant cannot handle volume. Managers and hostesses begin bussing tables instead of being at the front door as the waiter in my section takes 10 minutes to take orders and input them into the machine. At this point I am wishing I had ordered an appetizer off of the lobster menu so I can just pay my check and leave, but my free dessert comes with the menu so I order a baked Alaska, which was fine. Once I finish it, the waitstaff is still scrambling to fulfill orders and completely forgets about the little corner of the restaurant I and 2 other tables were in. All of us look on hopelessly as our waiter takes more orders, and no one comes to clear our tables. Finally the manager comes by, takes the orders of the other 2 tables, and I ask for the check. While their desserts show up, my check doesn't, and the manager disappears again. Eventually, at around 9:50, I just walk up to the hostess stand and ask to pay the bill, and when the manager is finally totaling up my bill, he tries to sneak in an extra 2€ from me as he tried to comp my 14€ soup which was not part of the lobster menu instead of my 16€ dessert which was part of the menu. Luckily a vigilant server corrected him. In total I spent 128€ for a bland soup, a lobster Thermidor which couldn't really be called a lobster Thermidor, a dessert, water and 2 drinks.

Went to this place on a tour and I'm so glad it was planned for us. I have no idea about their regular menu or prices or anything but I can say their lemon pie is incredible. I dream of that dessert still. Additionally, the staff was so nice to us Americans and joked around so much with us. Quick to refill our wine glasses and bring more water (and bread) to the tables. Bathrooms were very nice and the Christmas tree was beautiful. Also loved all the mosaics around. 10/10 would go again if I was on my own.

Food is overpriced and the taste/quality does not match the price. Started with the French onion soup, it did not come hot. I had to ask them to heat it up. The 4 different oyster selection was fine. Steak was bland and dry. Seemed microwaved to me. Duck was not that good either. Overall, service was fine. I would not come back. I enjoyed eating at Chez HL 1 block away and only spending a fraction of the price I spent here. Also saw a mouse running around on the floor during my dinner. It was near the middle section of the heating food area. Not sure what to think of that.

Apple tart with vanilla ice cream! It was absolutely amazing

Apple tart with vanilla ice cream was absolutely amazing! The service was very nice and attentive.

Baked Alaska!!!! Just Wow!!! "Baby is Fire" ..Die Antwoord

This is classic French, casual dining at its best. If you want to experience great food, great service, at very reasonable prices with a true French experience come here! The place is beautifully decorated in the classic Art Nouveau style. It's spacious, with plenty of space between tables. It's an elegantly decorated restaurant but very casual and not stuffy nor pretentious. There isn't a snob factor here. We felt very welcome here at all times. The staff are professionals, polite, knowledgeable and very kind and friendly. I speak French others in our party do not. The staff were never rude nor overbearing. We were a larger size group of Americans, Singaporeans, and Mexicans nationals. In fact our waiter politely asked the teen in our group if she preferred a menu in English, French, or Spanish. We were also asked in advance if we preferred separate checks or one check. They graciously accommodated separate checks. The English menu has both the French and English translation. There is no special "French only " menu. Everyone was treated respectfully and warmly. We were made to feel like family. Food selection is fantastic. There is a wide range of seafood, fowl, and beef. Vegans, do not come here! Menu choices include set meal combinations, a la carte, and daily chef's recommendations. Prices are reasonable and the wine selection is plentiful. An added bonus is that guests are allowed to take away unfinished bottles of wine. The atmosphere is vibrant, happy, fun with a mix of families, tourists, romantic couples, and local French. Noise is subdued... but definitely not quiet. Dress ranged from the very casual to semi formal. Everyone is welcome. Though I didn't notice anyone wearing shorts nor flipflops. Americans: Don't be an embarrassment to your Country!!! We started with the French classics of onion soup and escargot. Yes somewhat of a cliche! But all was delicious. Some in our group ordered duck confit, sliced duck breast, mushroom stuffed chicken breasts, and so on. Bread and butter were complimentary. We ordered wine and also bottled water. I don't know if regular tap water is complimentary. However, with the ancient plumbing in Paris, I never, ever, order anything but bottled water!!! The food is delicious. We sampled each other's food family style, and the food was impeccable. A la carte heavy dishes came with a side of herb, mash potatoes. Portions are very generous...in fact they seemed "American-Sized" even though the food is definitely French. Some of the set meals included dessert. The Baked Alaska was fabulous and just out this world!! I can write a novel here, but I hope foodies get the picture! Come here with friends and family, a happy attitude and you'll be treated like family!!! ...and rewarded with impeccable food and service!!

Seafood platter, with extra sea urchins.

A classic ... in a beautiful Art Nouveau decor, friendly service (for Paris), and very decent food. Worth the visit. Place was super busy when we entered at 7pm on a Tuesday. We barely scored a table for 2. Reservations are a must. Try to be in the main room to enjoy the history of the place. We settled on a large seafood platter, with extra sea urchins. And sweetbreads. Finished with a couple of desserts. Pouilly wine to accompany all this. Our waiter was very helpful and despite the high price tag, we really enjoyed our experience.

Mollard's food is overpriced and not very good. Started with French onion soup with Emmenthal, which was enjoyable. Oysters (Blanches de Bretagne N°3) were fine. We ordered only seafood for the main course and we were surprised that it was as bad as it was. We had the fish fricassee (Fricassée de Poissons) and the braised grouper (Filet de Mérou Braisé). Fish was overcooked. Dishes lacked flavour. However, the restaurant is stunningly decorated, and looks decadent with tile murals, mosaics and mirrors. The best part was being able to sit in this lovely place and gaze around. Two 2-course dinners (appetizer + main course) cost just over 60 Euro in June 2013. There was a 3 Euro surcharge for the oysters.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant late on a Friday night after 9 pm, when most other restaurants seemed to be closed and only bars were open in the neighborhood. We were happy to find this place, recommended by and within walking distance of our hotel, open and English friendly. As I was not very hungry, I ordered the french onion soup, and my boyfriend had the steak frites. The soup was not great - watery and not very flavorful, but it did have a good layer of cheese on top. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his steak, cooked to a perfect medium, and the fries were crispy, which he shared with me. We also ordered a full bottle of sauvignon blanc (the second least expensive, quite good actually), which our waiter kindly put in an ice bucket next to the table. Our waiter was very polite and checked in multiple times through our meal, even refilled our wine at one point. My boyfriend and I would definitely return on service alone, which was much better than other restaurants we visited in Paris, but I would skip the soup next time and order their seafood specialty dishes.

After a loooong trip back from Mont St Michel, this was the closest place to our hotel and it looked decent. There were always a lot of people in there, even late at night. They had some decently priced prix fixe menus which gave our group of 8 a chance to try a whole bunch of things. I'm a sucker for escargot so obviously had that. The onion soup was pretty good too and I went with lamb (4th dinner with lamb). My father in law's steak tartare was HUGE and ridiculously good. I was surprised the portions were so generous. I got the baked alaska for dessert. Too bad I didn't let the Grand Marnier burn long enough. My mistake.

It also had some truffles, which gave it a very distinct taste. While truffles are not my cup of tea, the chef here somehow did make it my cup of tea when he included truffles in my croque. We also came here for dinner, in which I ordered grilled salmon while she ordered steak. The portions were smaller than expected, but the food was prepped decently. The side of potatoes and veggies, along with dinner bread, was decent for a late-night meal. The breakfast service was great. It is not the most extensive menu but every item is delicious, made fresh with the finest ingredients, and cooked to perfection, by far one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Fresh seasonal fruits are picked and sliced at the peak of ripeness, their croissants, breads, and viennoiserie are as good as the best Parisienne boulangeries, even the butter comes from La Maison du Beurre Bordeir, one of the finest creameries in France. There are 3 breakfast options, Continental €39, Bien Être (well-being) €60, and Américain (American) €50 pp. I selected the American breakfast as it was a better fit, and had a wider variety of choices, Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon or ham, French Toast, Pancakes, or Crêpe, Eggs any style fried, pouched, scrambled, or as an omelette, with two sides choices, smoked brisket, veal sausage, cooked or raw ham, mushrooms, cheese, herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, and baked beans. I tried every item on the menu and was extremely pleased, though if I had to pick a favorite it would be the Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce and black truffles. There is also a dim sum menu which was good, but not exceptional, reminded me of Hakkasan, it even comes with training chopsticks. We are not talking about Triple Michelin stared restaurant, but the service is graceful and efficient, you'll immediately be impressed by the staff, their attention to detail, gracious and perfectly choreographed service, unlike some top rated restaurants were their service is as charming as a theoretical physicist. They remembered my likes and dislikes, days, even months later, not just the food but my favorite table was reserved every morning. There are several excellent options in Paris's 8th arrondissement, also known as Triangle D'or, Le Cinq @ George V comes to mind, opulent, elaborate menus, sure to please, however it can't match Le Joy with its more intimate surroundings, outstanding food, and warm service.
