Very happy to have my aunt here. They take great care of her and it has a pristine appearance on the inside and out. My aunt loves it here.

This place is phenomenal…read more I am so emotional after my business meeting there today that I almost can't take it. My grandmother didn't have that much dementia, but the place where we "placed" her was not nearly as wonderful as this Emeritus location. I think she would have been a great candidate for one of their "wings" - if only she had lived here and not in Rome, maybe we could have had her there. Here's the deal - Emeritus has 11 metro-Atlanta facilities, four that are dementia-specific, so to speak, and over 400 locations nationwide. From meeting with one of the key folks today, and meeting other staff and directors, it is clear that they are committed to the very best in patient care and treatment. Each resident has a nameplate on the door, and a photo/collage type thing next to their door with whatever they feel portrays them best- family pics, notes, etc. Even better, the four "sections" of the facility are decorated like....things that make you happy! My favorite was the "beach" themed room- and the hair salon! In one corner of a wing, they even have an old-fashioned mirror/dressing table and vintage dresses next to it. Wow. Beyond the aesthetics, it was clear that the staff really cares, and that anyone whom I love would be well tended to at this place...I witnessed staffers calling everyone they saw by name, carefully tending to the sofas in the lounge area, checking on people in their rooms or in the common dining area or group activity area. Really, it was - overwhelming. Bob Carr and staff do an incredible job, it seems - if I get totally *out there* one day, for whatever reason, this is the kind of place I would want to be.

We spent our Labor Day weekend moving my father-in-law ( Bob) from The Latern to The Neighborhood…read moreat Tellico Village. Our move-in was facilitated by Marti Hands. Marti turned an experience that could have been considered drudgery into fun! She greeted our family on her day off with a smile! She helped us with everything we needed. She had an answer for every question we presented her. Marti was totally professional but also personable! She helped settle Bob into his room, programmed his cable TV, introduced him to other residents and even went over a shopping list of snack foods for us to purchase for him. Marti Hands is hands down the best!!!

For accommodations, they have very nice rooms. They have two-bedroom units, one-bedroom and living room units, and then they have a studio, which is large but everything is in the same room. Every one of them has a kitchenette. Have of them have patios where you can go out from your own room onto the patio. They have really nice facilities. The staff is very accommodating. All of them seem to call their residents by name. They have a nurse that is director of the facility. The nurse would distribute the medication. They have a doctor on-call. They have people that do the personal care stuff. They have an activity director. They have a fine kitchen staff, they don't call themselves executive chef or anything like that, which they do at some of the other facilities, but the food is fabulous. We have eaten there several times. The dining room is very nice. They have linen on the tables and stuff like that. For activities, they have everything you can think of. They have dominos, bingo, bridge, exercise, movies with popcorn, etc. They have visiting therapy dogs. They have Bible studies. They have musicians come at least one different one every week. Also they have piano music at lunch time. Apparently, their big meal is lunch.

She had stayed at this wonderful facility 2 years ago for 6 weeks after a hip replacement. Everyone at The Lodge proved again to be exceptional. She probably had contact with the entire staff during this stay of 40 days. It would take pages to accurately state the attitudes of the entire staff. It began with smiles showing their concern to do everything possible for my wife during this difficult rehab experience. The smiles were the 'real deal', and were proven to be from the heart. She was shown professional care with love radiating from their hearts. This treatment produced contentment even when suffering physically. Contentment was the key that produced healing. Along with quality care from management, nursing, etc, they added something else to make the stay even more perfect. 'The FOOD'. Both my wife and I rate the food quality and taste higher than any restaurant that we have found in Asheville or Hendersonville. They permitted me to order my lunch or dinner and eat with her as often as I had time to do so. Yesterday, as we were trying to decide where to eat at some restaurant, my wife said, "Let's call The Lodge and see if they would let us order a meal one more time". I must add 1 more thing: 'The surrounding atmosphere'. From the 1st view, both inside and outside, the atmosphere was perfect. They even allowed our grandson to put a bird feeder outside her window. These 'birdwatching' experiences every day helped keep her mind on pleasant things when she was alone.

What she endured during her stay was not merely substandard -- it was a failure of basic human dignity that no patient should ever experience. My mother was admitted with a fractured pelvis, a serious and painful injury requiring careful, attentive care. Instead, pain management was grossly inadequate -- her suffering was never brought under control, and she was left in visible, prolonged distress. The facility does not provide patients with catheters despite limited mobility, leaving her lying for hours at a time in her own urine and excrement. This alone is a profound failure of basic nursing care. This is done to encourage patients to get out of bed, one staff member told me. When staff finally did attend to her, the handling of her body was alarmingly awkward. During cleaning, they moved her from side to side applying direct pressure to her fractured pelvis -- causing her tremendous, unnecessary pain. Whether this was due to a lack of training or simple carelessness, it is completely unacceptable for a patient with a known pelvic fracture. The environment itself was deeply distressing. A patient in an adjacent room could be heard repeatedly crying out "help me" -- for an extended period -- with no response whatsoever from staff. That sound will stay with me. It was not an isolated moment; it reflected the culture of neglect that seemed to permeate this facility. The attitude of much of the staff compounded everything. Several wore permanent scowls and did not mask their resentment when asked to respond to my mother's needs. Compassion and patience -- the very foundation of caregiving -- is in short supply when your job is driven by the numbers. I would urge anyone considering The Lodge at Mills River for a loved one to look elsewhere. Families trust these facilities with the people they love most, often at their most vulnerable. That trust was utterly broken here.

My loved one has been living in the mountains at Stonehenge Senior Living in Blairsville, Georgia for over two years. The facility is clean. Staff member care about each resident. They are diligent with medications. The staff, especially Tonja and Nicole, in building #5 are good at communicating with me regarding any issues that arise with my loved one. My loved one's clothes have never once "gone missing" in the wash. (Another facility my loved one was briefly in lost almost every piece of clothing owned.) Along with a door to the resident's room from the interior of the building where residents walk to attend lunch, movies, and other activities, they also have their own "back door" to the grounds to enter and exit the room. This is not a common find. Each room in Building 5 has its own thermostat . Not all facilities provide this luxury. Daily activities, such as Bingo, Karaoke, Movies, Pool parties and a Fourth of July firework show that would impress even the most discriminating firework aficionados are offered. The freshly manicured and mulched gardens at Stonehenge offer the best of the mountains. Especially in building #5, I highly recommend Stonehenge Senior Living. For seniors, who need some assistance with their daily care, I am grateful to Mitch and Linda for making this beautiful property available .
