Great restaurant located near one section of the Christmas markets. Service was very friendly and our server was super helpful. Staff and menus are in English as this seems to be both a local spot and tourist destination. Decor is set for the holidays and the open kitchen is a treat to watch. What a great spot! For those complaining about not getting the check, just a reminder, your expected to ask for the check, they aren't going to rush over with the bill as it's considered rude to just close you out. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a famous middle cost range restaurant, lots of locals enjoying dinner as well as tourists. That being said, it's a charming enough spot. The food was terrific. I had the Nürnberger sausages with boiled potatoes and horseradish. Great! Sausages were done perfectly and the horseradish was delicious. Caution: this is real homemade horseradish and it will clear your sinuses in a hurry! She had the sauerbraten with Knödel Ava red cabbage. The ginger bread sauce was really good and the mixture of the three together on a fork will change your outlook on life! This place is worth a stop for sure! Served three to a bun, and not just any bun but a crusty French roll, these finger-sized sausages were absolutely delicious-you can add mustard but even without, very tasty. When in Nuremburg, try the Nuremburg sausages! I ordered the 6-sausage platter that came with sauerkraut and warm potato salad (made with vinegar???). My German companion mentioned that the potato salad is supposed to be cold and to contain mayo. Sausage was great, especially with mustard, but I just didn't like the sides at all. This place was open early (about 10 am) as opposed to the other bratwurst places that were planning to fire their grill starting at 11 am. A bit hidden from the main drag, it's well worth the effort. The place is huge inside. A bit touristy, but the food remains excellent. Some of the best brats in town and I should know. Best part is, that if you can't make up your mind whether you want potato salad or kraut with your brats, they half/half it for you. And don't forget to ask for a pretzel or some fresh rolls to go with your dinner. Also check out the daily specials, there is always something good to find. Last visit we had calfs liver in a caramelized onion gravy with mashed potatoes and served with a tossed salad. The liver was nicely seasoned and so tender no knife was needed. Bratwurst Roslein is known as one of the largest brat restaurants, and after a hot day of sightseeing we were tired and just wanted food. The restaurant was huge and practically empty when we got a table. Despite this though, we had to flag several servers in order to get basic things (e.g. English menu, ordering, getting the bill). Food: -Mixed grill set menu (17.90 euro): This seemed to offer a taste of their signature items, which included a dumpling soup, roasted pork, sausage, and duck, and an apple fritter for dessert. There was also cabbage and sauerkraut, but the cabbage was too salty for me. The meats were just ok--nothing to write about. The soup broth was the best out of everything I ate because it had a good bone broth flavor. The apple fritter was just your average dessert with some fruit, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. -Quarter of Franconian duck (11.90 euro): I love duck, so I wanted to try their duck specialty. Unfortunately, it was a dud. The duck was pretty dry and the potato dumpling had the texture of a bland, gelatinous ball of Play-Doh. Service: -Our waitress wasn't horrible, but when you're sitting in a huge restaurant that is barely occupied, you shouldn't feel ignored by the servers. Bottom Line: I wouldn't eat here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone considering how many other restaurants there are. read more

This is a large restaurant just a few steps off the main square. The restaurant is large and sprawling. I'm sure it is one of those tourist bus stop locations where all they flood the place with the big groups. When I was there, we had a group of 10 and we were able to have an outside table so we could enjoy the nice evening. The place is known for the sausages of course, but I was with local Germans and they saw a pork shoulder that was one of those things that you had to try. It was one order for two people. It had a crispy skin which was good. The meat was a bit dry and over cooked/burnt in some areas. In all, I didn't see how it could be so special. But I guess that's Bavarian food. Will likely try different places if in Nuremberg again. read more

Most restaurants in Europe have a 'take your time' attitude. Not this one. We were told to 'sit anywhere'. The menus are located on the tables. Before we had a chance to begin to read the manu a waiter was there to take our order. The menu was in all German and we were struggling to translate. The waiter quickly threw questions at us; what do you want to drink? (Wine) Red or white (white) You'll have the local wine, it's very good (Ok). The beverages arrived very quickly and he was ready for our food order. We asked for more time to read the menu. He went away and came back much too quickly. Then he demanded 'what do you want to eat' and made a selection for us without being clear about what he was recommending. We ordered 1 to share and off he ran. He kept speaking in a mix of German and other languages. Impossible to follow. We ended up geting 2, not 1 dish, and it was terrible. As was the wine, which in Germany is quite a feat. The yellow creamcheese was the better of the two with a mild flavor but not at all cheese like. The white cheese was loaded with chopped onion and the onion flavor was overwhelming. The cheese itself had no flavor at all. Come to find out there was an English language menu on the table next to us, which the waiter clearly knew as he fetched it for another group. Well, I had finally arrived in Nuremberg and was overly excited to try the famous Nuremberg sausages. I had been told that these little delicacies were the go to dish for most locals and visitors, so why do as the Romans do? Of course there are a ton of restaurants in Nuremberg that serve these unique Jimmy Dean sausages, so I figured I ask the hotel concierge where their little secret non touristy restaurant they preferred to eat at was located. Ended up at Bratwurst-Roselein, and it looked like a semi local spot, upon walking in we were told to sit anywhere. As with most German restaurants when the waiter/waitress arrives, you order no dilly dallying around. Knowing what we wanted, both of us got the Nuremberg special sausages with pretzels, sauerkraut, and a local wheat beer. Food came out in no time, and I was greeted with a wonderful whiff of grilled sausages! Well, this is where it goes downhill, the sausages were a total letdown compared to the many other varieties I had tried in Germany so far. Sadly, they really did taste like Jimmy Dean sausages, do not get me wrong they were good, but maybe I hyped myself up too much for this meal. The pretzel tasted like it had been sitting out for some time, so loss of a star for me there. Thankfully, the sauerkraut and beer saved the meal! Sauerkraut had a wonderful sweet, yet typical semi sour taste to it, I really think the addition of caraway seeds made the difference here. The local wheat beer had a pleasant creaminess to it, which of course I ended up grabbing two of them! As for the total overall experience, not bad, especially if you are looking to go easy on your wallet, and would like a traditional German style brauhaus feel to your dining experience. Would I come back, definitely as the other items on the meal looked very promising, judging from the other patrons tables! read more

Delicious food, wine, and beer. I found a recommendation for this restaurant on the Nürnberg visitors bureau website. The food is in the local, Franconian, tradition. I had the roasted turkey breast in a mushroom cream sauce with spätzele. Delicious! The apple fritters for dessert made me feel as though I'd died and gone to heaven.
