Got stuck in East Texas for a night. Found beer and a hotel; noticed Braums less than 100 yards away. Yes, they do burgers and ice cream. Didn't know they were open for breakfast. The next morning needing something quick I walked over after checking out and packing my belongings in the truck. Lots of old timers visiting and having breakfast. I'd already spotted something strange on the menu. A breakfast taco with mustard on it? That was the first question out of my mouth at the counter. Does this one have mustard? We're already dealing with "packet" salsa here folks so I didn't expect much. In fact, walking past a few tables the more appealing dish looked to be biscuits and gravy. Didn't have much time so I grabbed my breakfast "taco" and headed to the parking lot. So much wrong here; too much cold with very little hot and you've got a terrible taco. HUGE chunks of tomato and onion with pepper jack (undetectable), eggs, and three meats. I only ate about half before cutting my breakfast losses. Next time, it's biscuits and gravy. I love Braums. I've gotten food and ice cream there my whole life. But unfortunately this Braums in Athens has gone sooooo down hill. The workers are some of the rudest people I've ever seen. They won't even answer your questions. They get the food wrong every single time. Im starting to think they are doing it on purpose to be rude. I'm a nice guy, I treat people nice even when they're rude to me...so they have no reason to treat me the way they have. Whenever I am in Northern Texas, I go to Braum's. We don't have them in Austin. The burgers are just how I like them: no frills and just good. Getting a milkshake with your meal is a must! I also like the crinkly fries and sauce. Keep in mind that this is fast food, so don't expect anything gourmet, but Braum's is certainly better than most fast food chains. read more

Alright we've been here twice. The first time we gave it a try, we were very happy with the milkshakes and fries. The second time we decided to get dinner and it was pretty good, fries weren't quite as fresh this time but it was good for the price point. Quick service. My only major complaint is both times in this establishment we saw bugs. First time was a friendly grasshopper and the second visit there was a type of assassin bug in the cold section of the grocery area. Visited this Braum's twice in last 2 weeks. Mainly to get bread, milk, eggs but ordered burgers & fries. Last week it was the 1/6 lb burgers. Food was barely warm as we ate in the car. This week, ordered 2 bacon cheese burgers & fries to eat inside. The cheese wasn't even melted! Also NO BACON! Nearly $20 for cold food. At least they didn't screw up the shakes. Had a great visit on Easter. The sweet girl was just who took our order was the nicest person. She really went out of her was to be nice and so considerate and make suggestions. While traveling through Athens we stopped here for a quick breakfast. We otder 2 grande burritos, 2 egg, cheese, and sausage english muffins. 45 minutes later!!!! (So much for quick) we received our food. The muffins were cold and not grilled or toasted. Just bland cold muffins with a cold piece of cheese, and a cold but at least cooked piece of sausage The burritos were cold ungrilled or warmed tortillas, cold eggs, cold pico, they also forgot to put the hashbrowns on them. We were both shocked and disappointed. We have 2 Braums in Tyler and we go to one or the other every Tuesday. They are awesome. We expected this one ro be just as good. Open atmosphere, that's the only good thing I can say about this place. They're were out of chicken strips so I ask if they could substitute a chicken sandwich in the kids meal since they were out of strips. They told me the only way was if they half the sandwich. WTH?! Is right!! There was a lady next to her, but she was no help just standing around doing nothing and when the lady at the register asked her a question she replied as if the cashier was bother her with her question. One of the burgers on our order was done incorrectly so I took it back to have them correct it. The lady behind the counter (that looked bothered earlier)grabbed the burger took it to the prep area and with her bare hands and she was taking it apart to attempt to correct the burger. I could not believe what I was seeing!! She brought the burger back to me and I asked her if she knew she needed to be wearing gloves to prep food. She replied,"Only if my hands are dirty." WTH!! I don't know where this lady's hands had been. I told her I was not going to take that burger. So she had someone else prepare a new burger. I never saw her trash the burger, but after seeing what she had done, my appetite was lost. Will not be going there again and would not recommend anyone I knew. Ms Ethel asked me to describe what it looked like and informed me she in fact found it herself. She was so kind and assured me it would be safe. Excellent customer service! This last visit, I went through the drive-thru and ordered a burger combo. As the drive-thru was busy, I was asked to pull to the side and someone would bring my order shortly. After about 10 minutes, an employee came out and asked what I had ordered. Turns out there was some confusion with orders in the kitchen. The managers were very apologetic and upgraded my drink and fries for no charge. Drive-thru employees are always friendly, courteous and helpful as well as the employees who run the grocery section. Not to mention, the food is of excellent quality and taste! read more

This Braums was just as nice & clean, with food & service comparable to other Braums restaurants. I don't normally come for the meal-type food, mostly just to treat myself to their ice cream. Peppermint is still my all-time favorite! The restrooms are also nice & well-kept. At first I just saw 2 stalls, but then turned around & saw the 3rd stall. It looks like they are building onto or remodeling one section of the eating area, so it got a bit crowded & somewhat noisy. The breakfast food on the menu looks good, & there is more variety there, but too bad they stop serving breakfast at 10:30am. Meal-wise, it's slim pickings for vegetarian-friendly stuff. But they were flexible & worked with me when I ordered one of the burgers without the meat patty. There are also salads. It would be better if they offered a veggie/garden patty, or a grilled cheese, or baked potato, or extended breakfast to all-day. But, oh yeah! On April 18th around 7:30 pm my wife asked if we could go to the Braums in Athens, Texas as she was craving a hot fudge sundae. When we placed our order I informed the employee we had four Items. She informed me very abruptly we can only accept two orders. I informed my wife that I would not order my banana split and try to order the remaining three items. The three items appeared on the drive thru screen. We pulled forward and the employee opened the window and took the credit card. Without saying a word the employee charged my credit card and handed me a receipt and my card. I then asked the merchants employee "If there was a shortage on dairy products?" She replied "No" and slammed the window shut. Another employee appears with our three items. Two of the three items were incorrect. I simply stated that "Two of the hot fudge sundaes were extra fudge and not doubles." The second merchants' employee replied "OK" and slammed the window again. I realize that employee's can be stressed or having a bad day. I own and operate a small business. However there is no excuse for these two employees behavior. This place is ran by a bunch of kids. They were very rude, when i asked for a burger with mustard pickles and cheese only. I was told "we can't make modifications to this burger". I asked if they could just have the cook add it, and was told "is it possible? Yes. Are we gonna do it? No". As if I was making a ridiculous request. I don't normally complain about a business. Over the last month I have been to Braums on three different occasions at different times. The first time I went was in the evening. I pulled up to order my food and was asked to wait before I ordered. I waited for over 8 minutes before I finally left without ordering. The second time went was on the afternoon I pulled up to ordered and was asked to wait again. This time it was over five minutes; the person apologized for the wait. Asked me to pull up to pay and I had wait some more before someone showed up so I could pay. I finally get to the window to get my food and there it sits and no one to hand it to me, so I wait some more. This morning I went again... this time only ordered drinks. I sat in the drive thru behind one vehicle who has turned off the car altogether... I waited and waited... nearly 10 minutes I waited. I finally drove since I hadn't paid either; just ordered! Mine while the entire time I got to smell raw sewage due to hopefully it just being all the rain as of recent. Either way... the drive they needs a lot of work at least making sure customers are at least getting waited; especially if you want to keep them! read more

But when they overcharge me and screw up my order I am not a happy person. I reported the screw up and the over charge, but the person I was talking to, was more concerned about telling me she was the assistance manager. My wife and I stopped in last Friday, 9-27-13, before attending the Palestine vs. Athens football game. There was an awesome young man working the register. I believe his name was Devon. He was friendly and well spoken. Let me just say, Braums in Athens is lucky to have him as an employee.
