I've been to the Brave New Workshop twice now and had a great time at each show. We've seen Spilling Me Softly; or Once the Gulf Goes Black it Never Goes Back and Toyota! The Runaway Musical Hit. Both were hilarious and I'm sure we'll check out the current show at some point. If you happen to be a member of MPR or The Current you get a discount on admission so that's pretty awesome. The only reason I took off a star is for the bathroom situation and the uncomfortable seats. Definitely go check it out if you're in the mood for some smart and poignant silliness. read more

I've seen just about every show here since I moved up 3 years ago. I love them all and think that the group is really talented. The christmas shows seem to be reusing a little too much material, but the rest of the shows are usually all new. I've taken my parents, my friends, my inlaws... everyone has had a great time and asked to go next time they are in town. The beer/wine selection is decent and not crazy priced. The servers are nice, but they are crazy about cellphone use in the theater even during intermission or before the show. read more

I've seen probably 10 shows here and loved all of them. This group of improv comedic actors is incredibly talented! Their Christmas shows are always the best and even better to see with your family. Great location, easy to park, get dinner, see a great show and laugh a ton. The staff is always smiling and always friendly. Thanks guys, keep up the good work! read more

A visit on Sunday is the best . a dollar! what a steal! If you're in need of a laugh take the trip to uptown with a few friends. it's way cheaper than acme comedy co and the comedy is GENUINE! read more

The shows are funny and spontaneous and I also highly recommend the the improv classes - they're like therapy but way more fun~

I finally made it to the downtown digs after seeing a number of shows when BNW was in uptown. Biggest improvement is triple the restrooms from the tiny old space! While any conservatives in the crowd were likely miserable I had a great laugh per usual at the BNW. Highly recommended. read more

Great evening if your looking for something a little different. I was really debating on taking my 16 year old boys. Called and talked to them and it was described as Sat Night Live type of humor. Overall it was ok, one pretty raunchy skit about Santa's sex toy division made me a bit uncomfortable with my boys but quite sure it was anything they haven't heard before. It was a good time but 16 would be the absolute lower end of the age limit I would take. Actors were awesome, my husband and I will be back for sure! read more

Had some good laugh at their show but why is it so pricey? I'm from the Chicago area and have been to many comedy clubs and theaters and paid less. Yes, second city is cheaper! Price aside, the actors were very good and it was a hilarious time. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed Lady and the Trump. It was fast paced and witty. The comedian portraying Trump was excellent also both Hillary's. Regarding the optional improv, there could be less physical body contortions. It was more slapstick comedy. The show was too notched. I would see it again. read more

My first time going to the Brave New Workshop we saw "How to make love like a Minnesotan" Needless to say we were literally laughing our asses off the entire show. Love the small, cozy venue - which makes no seat a "bad seat". The performers are very talkented, funny, and current on material. Will keep going back whenever we get the chance! read more

The Brave New Workshop Experimental Thinking Centre (ETC) was the PERFECT event venue for my book launch party! They provided: * A bar manager who created a delicious signature cocktail for the event * Fantastic, yummy catering * Flexibility when we realized once we were in the room that we wanted some tables moved, and the setup crew happily accommodated our request * The perfect music selection to set the tone we had asked for for the party * Gracious, friendly staff who made all guests feel welcomed and appreciated The full bar and easy accessibility in downtown Minneapolis coupled with the dedication of everyone at the Brave New Workshop to making my party a success, made it a magical night for everyone who attended!!! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My friend bought 5 tickets to the horribly unfunny "Age Against the Machine" and we were kicked out for being "too rowdy". The problem was, we weren't rowdy AT ALL. I can honestly say, I didn't even laugh once, let alone talk during the performance. My friends husband was yelled at by a staff member for talking...but he hadn't opened his mouth during the entire show even once! They also kicked out the table next to us, gave them a full refund, but refused to give us a refund. I asked for the managers business card, and the staff member told me "my manager doesn't have business cards." A business manager...with no business cards. Professional? I think not. I will never be returning to this horrible establishment, and neither will anyone I know. read more

I check out the offerings on a regular basis. And, while the comedy itself is hit or miss, I always am looking for a rush deal ($10 for anyone with a student ID!). A great weekend night out and a great laugh. read more

My husband and I saw the Brett Favre Christmas show last night. It was absolutely hilarious...it sure is fun to laugh for 2 hours! Lauren Anderson's skit on kareeokee singing at her company's Christmas party and the Father's 12 days of Christmas were especially funny. This is one of the first places I went after relocating to Minneapolis from Chicago. The first show I saw here far exceeded my expectations and there were some standout performers who did a great job. The other two shows were a bit slow and predictable in my opinion. All and all I will go have another look since it's been quite a few months. And with the same ensemble doing (from what I can tell) each of the main reviews, I can understand depending on how often the shows are changed, that continuing to come up with great new material is a challenge. read more

I went to see "Twerking around the Christmas tree" and WOW. The humor was so on point, so alive, so very very well thought out. The 12-days-of Christmas rendition left my cheeks hurting from the non-stop laughter. These actors/actresses are fit for Hollywood with their boisterous personalities and flare for true raw comedic performance. I saw the show last year which was great but this year's show took it to a whole new level. Every single scene was a hit, every song was perfection. I almost want to go again! Bravo bravo bravo! I have attended at least one performance of every show they've done since 2001. This is my far my favorite place to go for live comedy in the Twin Cities. I have introduced roughly 20 of my friends to BNW over the last decade and the worst review I heard from them was "That wasn't bad, I laughed a lot". Over the past few years, they have been relying a lot more on shows that do popular skits from previous shows. I'm looking forward to a time when they do more shows with 100% new material...with the exception of the 12 Days of Christmas songs, I will never get tired of them! read more

some funny stuff. nothing uproarious. the cast is good. sometimes it felt like they were trying too hard to make us laugh. the material seemed a little trite and got repetitive. one act was probably enough, although we stayed for two. the invitation to stay for a third, improv set at the end of the show. i think that might have been funnier, but it came too late. it was time to go. maybe next time. read more

Awesome, cheap comedy. I especially enjoy the political satire shows. Their special shows run for a quite a while so you can't miss out. Great location, quaint atrmosphere and beer/wine available! My 1st choice for a laughter night out without breaking the bank! read more
