Cute theater, love the interior designed in an art deco style from the mirrors in the lobby/bar the railings on the staircases to the bathroom wallpaper, this place is a must. The drinks were pretty good and reasonably priced and the attendants were polite and patent with all the patrons. The leg room on the rows was great, better then economy plus airline seat. read more

WOW! This is one old school classic movie theater. I've been wanting to see a movie here for awhile. I was in town from Miami, FL, so I was able to catch a 35mm screening of John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). OMG! It was wonderful. I felt like I was a teenager again watching this movie on the big screen in old school 35mm. I love movies especially classic films plus I love old movie theatre houses. I found out that this movie theatre was built in 1930. The seats were from like the 1930s so don't expect comfort. Otherwise, I love this place and the staff. They have a bar and small concession stand (no hot dogs). I use to live in Los Angeles, CA so I know about old school movie theaters plus classic films. I highly recommend this place! They regularly have screenings of old school films and it sells out. The Thing screening was sold out, so get there early to get a decent seat. Enjoy! read more

I find no pleasure in writing a negative review, but the lack of customer service I experienced was appalling. My bestie treated me to the Home Alone movie last week. I was so excited to watch one of my favorite Christmas movies in the theater. I haven't seen it in theater since I was a child! As the anticipating was building while walking to the theater, my excitement only grew as I smelt fresh popcorn being made. We arrived thirty minutes before the show started. We got in line for concessions and when it was time to take a seat, there were none to be found. My fears came true when we were unable to find a seat. I asked for help from the ticket taker and asked if there was an usher to help us find seats. She said they didn't, but I was welcome to keep looking for seats. We passed an employee in the aisles, which turned out to be the manager. I asked him if there was open seats and if he could help us find some. He said there should be seats, but after the previews started, it was impossible to see anything in the theater. He didn't help locate seats. I am totally disappointed. I understand that mistakes happen, but I don't understand the lack of customer service. I used to work at a local theater so I asked the manager if any announcements were made that the show was sold out and to leave open seats on the ends of the rows. He said no announcements were made. I told him it looked oversold as we were not the only ones looking for seats. He didn't offer any assistance. He almost walked away, but I got his attention and asked for a refund. He did end up giving me a refund fortunately, but I'm just bummed we missed out on this experience. I'm kicking myself in the butt for not immediately going to find seats. I guess chalk that up to getting used to assigned seats. I'm also bummed because I was already planning on seeing future movies and the comedy performances that they host. I would have loved to support this local small business. Based on the lack of customer service offered, I'll choose to support another small business. I will say that their popcorn is amazing though! read more

Want to start by saying I absolutely love the programming the Parkway does! Great selection of live music, movies (on both digital and film), and some other stuff--and the staff has been very kind every time I've been. They do monthly Rocky Horror midnight screenings, which are super fun too! My main with the Parkway is with the seating. The seats are really uncomfortable and pretty small, and are also not on enough of an incline (in my opinion)--every time I've been here, I've genuinely had the person in front of me's head blocking 1/3 of the screen, no matter how tall I tried to sit up or how much I moved around. I get that it's an older theater with more of a classic vibe, but when your main attraction and purpose is seated events, I think the seating situation matters a little bit more. They have a selection of popcorn, candy, and drinks that are pretty standard-priced, and even though their main bathrooms are up a flight of pretty steep stairs, they apparently do have accessible bathrooms which is good. Free street parking in the surrounding blocks is plentiful as well. read more

I've been here twice to catch a comedy show and it has quickly become one of my favorite places. Parking: plentiful and free, if you just turn on one of the neighborhood streets for street parking. Location: lots of restaurants and cafes nearby to grab a snack or drink before or after the show Food: I haven't gotten anything from there, but their popcorn smells amazing every time I walk in! Service: pretty fast to get into the theater, just have your phone ready for them to scan. The staff are quick and efficient while being warm and wishing you a great show. Ambiance: worn but comfortable seats, with neat elements of an old theater. It seats many people but gives off the aura of an intimate space. There are the velvet curtains, archways, and geometric rectangular lighting patterns on the ceiling. The sound and lighting were perfect! I can't wait to watch another show here! read more

Coworker friend invited me to accompany her to an event being held her on a Saturday night. Parking is hard to come by on a busy night, but we were lucky to find a spot in the lot across the street. I felt like I was in a different time, like the Great Gatsby Era, walking in the front door. Friend checked us in at the ticket booth. They sell popcorn and candy. But they also have a bar for cocktails, water, or pop. We made our way to the auditorium. Loved the red velvet chairs... plenty of leg room!!! This is not the stadium seating found in today's multiplexes. Aisles slope gently down toward the front. Our event was multiple speakers on stage, put on by the NPR podcast The Nocturnists. Didn't know what to expect for such an event, but this was a beautiful venue for it. read more

About few weeks ago, I saw the Home Alone movie was being shown here on Saturday, 12/21/24 at 1:00pm. I immediately became thrilled as this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Decided to treat my best friend to the show. Arrived with excitement to the show Saturday. As soon as we walked in, our tickets were scanned at the door by a young gal, the smell of yummy popcorn slaps you in the face, and the concession line was wrapped around (note: tiny tiny concession area). Hopped in line for concessions and waited about 10-15 minutes before we got our snacks. Then we headed to the theater to get seated. Walked in and it was packed. Looked like there were no seats. Asked a few people if someone was sitting there and told yes. My bestie went up to a staff member for help and told the show was not sold out, people are allowed to save seats, just keep looking for seats. Went to the other side of the theater and did the same thing. Still no luck and at this point, we are NOT able to even see as the movie is about starting. People see us looking and no one offered to assist us. Went to staff a second time- NO help. Unreal. I'm so taken back. I've never been to a business where customers are coming to you and denied help, not just once, but TWICE. A gentlemen came out who I believe was the manager and he didn't even help, basically said we needed to look for our seats. First time here and definitely will NOT be returning and telling other family and friends about my experience here. I'm jaw dropped we were treated like this. I'm all about supporting local businesses but when experiences like this happen, I will not.... Poor customer service skills and operations. I hope others have a more pleasant experience. read more

Um, the Parkway Theater? Isn't that a dump? Hey now, listen up. The Parkway is a delightful presence in the 48th and Chicago area of Minneapolis. Get on their mailing list! I'll wait........... ......if you are cool and like all sorts of cool stuff, and I can only assume you are cool, you would be amazed what's going on at the Parkway. I don't own it or anything, so this is a legitimate review. They have: -Grammy winning musicians -all kinds of movies, scary, not scary, old, weird, not weird, audience participation, etc etc. We've been to a silent movie that had a live orchestra. -comedians -the moth radio story telling -book signings -homemade movies where you get to shout them down if you don't like them. We went three nights in a row last month and we don't even live close by. There is so much leg room you could have a small wedding reception right at your seat. Yes, a bar! Yes, a cool little lounge. We even brought our Tiny Table (a different review) and set it up at our seats to hold our drinks. Food? Right next door. A dinner club, a couple bars. I mean you'd never have to leave. Remember Dr. Strangelove? You should see it. Epic. It's coming later this month. You don't want to watch it on the dinky iPad. You want to watch it at the PARKWAY. read more

Went for the midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show! Such a fun a Ned crazy experience. This was not my first time as a RHPS but it was my first time at the Parkway Theater. I loved the ambiance and feel of the theater. Got a drink at the bar too! That staff were so nice and it was easy to buy a ticket online. Lots of street parking in the area. Of course we've been coming here for decades and just realized I need to review it. It is a great old theater and I absolutely love the quirky shows they choose to put on. There's really nowhere else left in town like this place. Be sure to plan to go early, so that you can find parking and walk maybe quite a ways, especially in winter (there was no parking on 48th St. when we were there this week). My main complaint is the seats. OMG, SO uncomfortable. The metal bars were digging into my hips throughout the whole movie, I ended up sitting forward in my chair to avoid them. I know I have wide hips, but this isn't a problem in other theaters. Maybe they just made seats smaller back then! I was glad no one was sitting next to me, because my knee would have been touching their knee. I also thought the drinks were expensive, but I guess in a theater you are a captive audience and you always pay more for the refreshments than you expect to. The only other issue I would mention is the sound, it was painfully loud at times, which I was told is because when it's 35 mm it's really hard to control. So going forward I will bring ear plugs when it's 35mm. Still after all these complaints, I am giving it four stars because we love it. We always be back! read more

I've been to a few concerts here, and for movie re-releases that they show. Decent prices for concessions, drink prices are what I expected. The theater space its self is welcoming and cozy. They often have themed drinks for the movies they show. Only one show I went too was a too loud for the space but I'd say that's more likely due to the bands fault not factoring in the space is for more intimate shows. It's still one of my favorite venues. Affordable for a night out. Parking is street parking in the surrounding neighborhood which helps a lot. read more

I thought I would do an update because I really love The Parkway and I want people to keep supporting this place! Local theaterss are gems to be treasured. I am so glad to have this little neighborhood theater around to show older movies and host events. It's a cute theater with decent (but old-fashioned) seats and a small-ish theater screen. They have a really great selection of 35mm movies on offer (my husband and I saw Spaceballs there a few weeks ago, and in October they're doing a number of scary and horror movies). And honestly, who can hate on a place that has a monthly midnight screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show with a shadow cast and audience participation (although maybe that's just me)?? They have family friendly movies on the weekends too (especially if you want to hit up a matinee). Their website is up to date and they send out emails in advance with their schedule, which is super handy if you like to plan ahead. And they have more than just movies - sometimes they have comedy shows and music too! They have a good number of tribute band shows but they get some bigger name performers too. Tickets for movies and events are pretty reasonable, and I love how easy they've made it to buy tickets online. They sell snacks for not-terrible prices and I think adults can get cocktails from the bar next door. They have a couple of minor downsides. First off, the movies are not loud surround-sound quality like you get in chain theaters. If you're expecting that, it can be a bit disappointing. However, if you have kids or people who are sensitive to loud sounds, this might be an upside. In my opinion, the biggest downside is parking - it's all street parking and maybe a few lot spaces if you're seeing a late show. There are a lot of restaurants in the area, plus housing, so it can be tricky to find parking nearby. If you're coming to see a show, plan to come a little early to either hunt for a parking space or be prepared to walk a few blocks. Parking situation aside, I love having this neighborhood gem around to catch some fun movies or shows. read more

It'd been several years since my last visit to this theater before arriving on Dec. 30 to see the live Lizz Winstead comedy show. Parking on the street in the area was easy and, after being knocked aside while walking on the snowy/slippery sidewalk by an older man who was hurrying past me to get inside the theater doors to meet his people, check-in was a breeze with the pleasant, friendly staff member there to greet us. The lobby was crowded and abuzz with human activity; some people, mostly older folks, wearing face masks. We had general admission tickets and found two seats together near the middle of the center section and made ourselves as comfortable as we could in the velvet upholstered seats. Like the lobby, the auditorium was also a flurry of activity with people talking with others, both standing and sitting, people coming in and others going out, etc. The interior of the auditorium, ceiling included, is so beautiful, so calming to gaze at. Will keep this place in mind for future entertainment. read more

I came here to watch The Taylor & Rhea & Company Show from the 10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival. The Parkway is a cute little theatre, it's located in a charming area in Minneapolis with little shops and restaurants. It could make a nice date night. Grab dinner, walk around the shops until it's time to see a movie or show at The Parkway. It has a old school charm even though it has been renovated. The only thing that makes it not a five star is that the entrance is small so when the crowds come through it's pretty tough to get where your going. read more

I love this theater. I've been here for concerts, events, film screenings and more. If you are a fan of The Moth (amateur storytelling) or like old films, or are looking for something completely off the wall (check out Scream it Off Screen) this place has events for everyone. Every time we go we have a great experience. This theater is nearly 100 years old and still retains the charm and subtle touches that give it a character all its own. The staff is super helpful and the concessions -- although limited -- are part of the charm. The theater does sell alcohol and has a limited, always interesting selection of beer and wine. Seating isn't reserved so if you are coming for some of the more popular events and you care about where you sit or have a larger group pay attention to the door opening time and get there early. This is an in city theater so there is no parking -- only on street. As an added touch for date night, both Town Hall Pub and the Creekside Supper Club -- two can't miss spots are steps away. For Creekside make a reservation as soon as you buy your tickets. Parkway is just an all around cool place that we are lucky to have in our community! read more

I went to see Harold & Maude. It had been years since I had been to the Parkway. I was amazed it was sold out & glad I bought my ticket on line weeks before. It was so quick & easy to buy it that way. Seating is first come-first served. I arrived shortly after the doors opened. I wanted to be close to the front, my preference in theaters in general. They have your name at the main counter & also an attendant had a handheld device & checked me in. I bought a can of coke and a bag of popcorn. (shhhh and a box of Peanut M & M's) The total was cheaper than the AMC & the popcorn much better! I sat in the second row of the theater which has maybe 30-40 rows? The musician, Mark Joseph, was a killer guitarist, had some great riffs, hit the high & low notes. I'd forgotten how Cat Steven's was such an integral part of the movie. Mark Joseph was an excellent lead-in. I'll go see him at another venue or hear again, for sure. The theater seats are the original (in row 2, anyway) I wished for more padding. Totally worth the money. They have a website & I get an email once a week with new talent coming. I cannot wait to go back. read more

I was in town for the Sound Unseen Film Festival and I had a great time at the Parkway. I am a digital cinema professional who makes DCPs for a living I found that the projection system and sound was top notch. The first film I saw was Wayne's World. It was DCP and looked and sounded great for a 30 year old film. The second film was a doc on DCP and once again it looked great. One thing that made me happy is that the popcorn is really good. It is not your normal AMC or movie chain popcorn. It tasted and smelled fresh. The staff was very friendly and the theater was clean. read more

I love the new Parkway Theater! Whomever purchased it, has done a nice job updating the look and taking care of the place. The lighting was amazing.. the vibe was just right in there. Parking is always hard in this neighborhood, yet we always seem to make it work. You can park in the lot at the Veterinarian after hours or good old fashioned street parking always works. You walk-in, you're greeted, show your tix, go to concession, pick a seat (ample seating-it's a movie theater) and there's good view anywhere you sit. Restrooms are located upstairs, above concession. Support these local acts and the awesome things that take place at our Parkway Theater. read more

I reached out to this theater at short notice during COVID for a private facility rental to celebrate a birthday. They were extremely helpful and promptly responsive. I was able to pull off a surprise which included a personalized marquee message, a personalized birthday message on the screen when we first entered, a choice of any movie we wanted to watch (provided we brought the DVD), allowed us to bring our own snacks and played our choice of music as we entered all at a reasonable price! It was an excellent and memorable experience that we were able to pull off despite a snowstorm outside! The inner renovation is beautifully done while maintaining the original art deco style. A double-feature for $7.50. Old leather couches. Little tables on which you can place your drinks and food. Yep - they've got food and drank! This is as casual, fun, and affordable as a moviegoing experience can get. Imagine your best possible netflix night, but on a big screen. I think I saw a guy peeing in a cup when I happened to glance a few rows behind me, and someone had an impossible-to-tame case of gas, which provided the sort of surround sound no one needed... but even that enhanced the aura. I'll sum this place up with quotes from the two movies I saw there: Silence of the Lambs and No Country for Old Men. "First principles, Clarice. Simplicity. Read Marcus Aurelius. Of each particular thing ask: what is it in itself? What is its nature?" The Parkway's nature: a mixture of a saloon, a basement, and a living room. "Where'd you get the [margarita]?" "At the gettin' place." Damn straight. When it comes to cheap, good cinema with a side of alcohol, The Parkway is indeed The Gettin' Place. read more

This newly renovated theater is a great place to catch a show. They run mostly classics, which is great if you've ever wanted to see a certain movie in the theater but never got the chance. Parkway also hosts concerts and various speaking engagements. The theater itself has an old school feel to it, with fairly comfortable velvet red seats. Staff is friendly and there is a good amount of street parking to be had. It's nicely situated on Chicago Ave. near some shops worth browsing around and right next door to El Burrito Mercado. Parkway is a fun place to see a movie. It's a single screen, an older theatre. The seats are definitely oldschool, and reminded me of going to class in those super-big auditoriums in college. They do have a couple leather armchairs up front. The best part is they let you bring in food and drinks! Anything you purchase at the restaurant next door can be brought into the theater. I wouldn't try bringing in food (it was a little tight in the seats, not sure where you'd set your entree), but we brought in beer which was superfun. They also sell beer and wine at the concession stand. Definitely a fun evening - and no previews! read more

The first time I was here after the remodeling was last Oct. for a showing of my film COME AND GET YOUR LOVE. I guess it's quite a feat to fill the Parkway, but I did it. What was special about it , was viewing it from a couch. I felt wholly Roman. If it's the right movie and crowd, it can be quite an exciting vibe. I'm so glad Pepitoe's took over ownership. Updated-They take credit cards now-yay! Very happy they showed the Obama Inauguration today. Lots of fun, even though the seats still are a little uncomfortable. They've done so much to improve the theater in the last 2 years. If you haven't been in awhile, give it another chance. We finally did and weren't disappointed! They've started showing second run mainstream movies (along with the occasional weekend kids' matinee, and assorted foreign films) and you don't have to sit through 20 minutes of ads and previews! When they say the movie starts at 7pm, it really starts at 7pm! 2 movie tickets, huge popcorn (with real butter!), pop, and candy for 17 bucks. What a deal! And, yes, beer and margaritas, and couches. Really 4.5 stars because the bathrooms aren't clearly marked, so of course I walked into the men's room. No one saw me, but still. Eww! read more
