She absolutely nails how a business owner should be. My wife spotted on their social media yesterday they would be having lavender shortbread cookies and knew we needed to go and get them. They actually sourced the lavender from a fellow local business Botanically Curious. Great to see local supporting local. The Messy Cookie is a great spot to grab some delicious cookies. Like mentioned the owner is so friendly and almost always has some samples for you to try. They host events including cookie decoration. Also while we did not have any since we had coffee before they had coffee by design coffee available to pair with your cookies. If you are looking for delicious and unique bakery cookies from a local business this is the place to check out. We loved the lavender cookie and enjoyed getting a lemon crinkle again too!

We had a tent for our catered meal, dancing in the barn and our ceremony was in the field. Stacy was helpful and reassuring the whole time. She gave us names of local venders, caterers (we used Lori Gross Kinkade who went above and beyond!). She used all the pictures and flowers I told her I loved in such beautiful, creative and organic arrangements. I joked afterwards with my husband that of course a midwife turned farmer would be able to handle me being a high maintenance bride, she's handled higher pressure situations before! We had the wedding we dreamed of and highly recommend Broadturn Farm.

I enjoyed perusing the aisles and displays to look for things I didn't even know I needed. There's a fine line between 'want' and 'need' and that line is easily erased here. The prices are the first thing you'll notice. While they are not necessarily "high" for quality items and equipment, they are a little on the pricier side. Perhaps that's unfair to say since all the Le Creuset stuff is placed right in the front of the store. I did end up getting some charming plates (I already have the perfect dish in mind) and a few other little gadgets that I decided I ultimately "needed". They are friendly here. Though I did not ask for assistance personally, I overheard someone else ask one of the gents working there about the difference between the cheaper and more expensive pans and he was quite thorough with his layman's response. I love stores like this but somehow I felt that they had just a little bit less variety than I would have liked. They do seem to favor a handful of brands, leaving options pretty minimal. Still, it is a big space and the selection/quality decimates a place like Target or BB&B. Yes. I'm sure I'll return someday soon.

Needed 10th wedding anniversary flowers for a best friend in Maine and had no clue where to look…read more It's been nearly 30 years since I lived in Portland and all my favorite small business flower shops that I remembered were long gone. And those that remained still seemed stuck in 1980's funereal-style arrangements... lots of mums or stargazers and filler. But Yelp helped me narrow down a few possibilities. And I was super delighted to find Fiddlehead Florals! Fiddlehead Florals checked off all my boxes... gorgeous & modern design with beautiful, sustainably-sourced and seasonal/local flower selections; excellent and easy customer service over the phone where the designer (I think owner?) listened to what I hoped to have delivered and helped me arrive at my final decision; and they worked all of this within my targeted budget without trying to just upsell me at their sales target. I found their prices very reasonable for the service, delivery, and of course their selection of beautiful flowers. Since this is a 10th Anniversary, I wanted something dramatic, colorful, and seasonal. I called with almost 2 weeks lead time, and my requested delivery to outside the Portland area was no problem. The florist who took my call was cheerful, gracious, and incredibly helpful in my decision making. We decided upon a designers choice featuring a strong peony base as these were now apparently in season (plus I knew the couple loved them). The gal on the phone said she'd check to see if she could get a white Orchid, as she did not have one in the shop. I didn't hear back from the clerk but my Aunt did call and said she received the orchid. I don't know what it looked like as my Aunt is elderly and doesn't snap shot from her phone. I guess it was nice, I hope so. It would have been nice to receive a photo from the shop itself, since I am so far away.
