I've been coming to Brayz my entire life as I grew up down the street in Hazel Park. Love the burgers and fries. One complaint though: a stolen car crashed through the side of the wall about a year ago during a police chase and the owner has STILL not repaired it, which means that there is no dine-in service. I'm staying with a friend close to Detroit this weekend. So, unfamiliar with the area as I've only been here one other time and in search of something yummy to eat, I ordered food from Brayz via Doordash after finding it on Yelp. Let me say this: it was affordable, it hit the spot, and it had an old school vibe you don't always see anymore from burger joints. A lot of spots like to try and elevate their food or the dining experience and Brayz, based on what I saw on Yelp, seems to be more focused on the basics and boy did they deliver. The fries were crispy and they were crinkle cut which is always a welcome surprise. I ordered a small and the portion was surprisingly big, too -- no complaints here! I opted for a "belly buster" which I'm assuming is their take on a Whopper, but it's dressed like an In-N-Out burger: thousand island dressing, onions, lettuce, tomato. All the ingredients tasted fresh and complimented the beefy, cheesy goodness. It's definitely a smashburger style hamburger they serve here, but it's what I prefer and therefore I was really pleased. There was an option to buy a sack of cheeseburgers which is definitely a throwback to burger joints from the 40's, 50's, and 60's if you know your burger history. From the looks of things, those burgers are smaller and more basic, probably closer to a classic McDonald's burger, but worth noting (and honestly after this experience it may be something I opt to do if I go with a group in the future). My food was even delivered in wrapped in non-descript wax paper -- not a lot of places take things back to basics like this and it adds to the charm. This spot is definitely a dive and is going to be a no frills type of experience for those who visit or order, but if you're like me and you just want a purist experience, then this is a wonderful option. This employees were sweet and nice to the point I almost didn't leave the review but they were so NASTY!! I watched the cook wipe his forehead and nose with gloves that he never changed when handling money or cooking the food. He went from wiping his nose to taking orders and then cooking with the same DIRTY gloves on. So never again. The fry's were old. The onion rings were burnt. The worst part and why I should have asked for my money back. The lady put on gloves then she touched all over the card tap machine. Then she used those same gloves to unpack every slice of cheese and put it in a pile. Then she took her gloves off to pack the sandwiches. Everyone knows that when you wear gloves, you have to wash your hands or apply a new pair of gloves. Because when you sweat while having those gloves on bacteria builds up so now every sandwich that this woman just packaged, has bacteria on it. It gets worse, she touched the inside of the paper that was going on the sandwiches with the other hand that she used to touch all over the tap machine, and she never washed her hands in between any of this. The cheese burger sliders were so dry & as a former restaurant manager I knew it was not fresh. At 60 years old I never went there & as soon as the opportunity arose I was very disappointed. Visited this restaurant for the first time a couple weeks ago while I was in the area, and thought it was decent for the cost of what you get. Upon arrival I wasn't entirely impressed with the customer service they were very brief and sort of awkward to interact with especially while you are waiting for your food. The two employees working here cared more about having personal conversations back and forth then interact with a customer while they wait. The food was okay, I purchased 4 burgers and a drink and it was affordable. The burgers were truthfully kind of bland. For the price and if someone wanted more for their money with bland food I would recommend this place. Wasn't for me personally but I am glad I tried it out. read more

There's definitely been an hour change; I don't believe they're open 24 hours anymore, and they're definitely closed on Sundays. Be careful on pick ups - the order window at the side of the building is a free for all. They don't even attempt to control the amount of people crowding into that tiny room to wait for orders. It was tight with 3 people pre-COVID and it's not surprising to see 5+ people crammed in there now. I typically order over the phone and then just stop in to pick up, but there are plenty of times where I wait in the parking lot an extra 10-15 for some people to clear out. read more

I grew up in Hazel Park, and my mother, while working 2 jobs, often worked at Brays. I remember the bags of burgers that fed us, inexpensively, when we might otherwise have been hungry. I remember how good they were, even if a bit greasy. I moved to CA in the USMC back in the mid 70's and stayed because it is warm. I am now an old man, 65 years, and can do as I please. I now come back in the Spring every year to watch Tigers baseball. I make sure we go to Brays. My daughter who is one of 7 kids, and she is only 12, the others are much older, loves Brays. In fact, she brought 2 burgers back for her CA friend and the friend devoured them, claiming how good they were. Nostalgia is good but tasty burgers are better... KEEP UP YOUR GOOD WORK read more
