I finally came in on a weekend morning to meet up with a friend. I enjoyed my coffee and the different options for treats. There is a decent amount of seating for a place in its location which was nice so I could visit for a couple hours with my friend. This place is absolutely amazing. I genuinely think this was one of the best places I found while living in the cities. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. The paninis are tasty. The bakery section is so delicious that there should be an addiction warning taped to the pastry display case. They've got all different sorts of coffee orders too, so if you need your morning fix, you're set. The place is always crowded, which is a sign that it's a well-loved hangout and eatery of the community. However, it does mean that you could be standing for a little while until a table opens up. Space always does open though, it's just that sometimes patience is required. However, it's always worth it to enjoy the good vibes and delicious food. Free parking can also be hard to find as most street side parking is full all hours of the day. Be prepared to walk a little ways or to pay the small fee to park behind the building. This is the heart of the Twin Cities though, so this should not be surprising. If I could give this place fifty stars instead of five, I would. The only reason I had to stop eating here was developing celiac disease. For those of you with free will and without gluten troubles, definitely make your way here. They have so many goodies that it's hard to go wrong with what you choose but just know their croissants are simply the best. This cafe serves the same beverages as Cafe Latte and has a variety of pastries available. I went on a Saturday around 10am and it was packed, but my drink came out pretty fast. The Swedish latte has maple syrup, cardamom, and cinnamon. The latte isn't too sweet and the aromatics taste great! The almond croissant had a generous amount of sweet almond filling. I came in late afternoon on a weekday and the case was nearly empty! It was a bit disappointing because none of the tags were in the right place so I had to ask or guess at what I was looking at but the shop is very warm and cozy. There's free wifi and lots of seating so plenty of places for you to sit if you wanted to sip and work for awhile. I have no idea what's above this but there was a ton of rumbling and loud banging coming from above. I ended up getting a plain croissant and it was soo flakey and delicious. We stopped here before our appointment at The Wedding Shoppe down the street. It was a Saturday morning and I should have known it would be busy! We were lucky to find a table, but know this is a popular spot so plan ahead! We each ordered a coffee and pastry and this cafe had a wide selection of both. My personal favorite is the chocolate croissant - you can't go wrong! There is a ramp parking lot across from Cafe Latte that we always use and has plenty of spots. One of my favorite bakery/cafes St Paul has to offer! This sister cafe to Cafe Latte has some very delicious baked goods and coffee drinks. Plenty of seating including but can get very busy around the 10am time slot because that is the time most of their baked goods are available. My favorite spots to sit include by the large windows to watch the hustle and bustle of grand avenue or next to the cute fireplace! Order ahead option is great in order to make sure they don't sell out of your desired choices. They have rotating baked specials each day. Thursdays after 10am is when their super tasty Scotcharoos are available. I highly recommend these! There is not an option to tip if paying by card so bring cash if you'd like to leave a tip. Mid afternoon hustle and bustle here on a Saturday. Cute, little neighborhood spot for college students study group or a stop for a family outing or a treat post yoga. I stopped by to grab cookies for my family after a morning of errands. Of course I got the chocolate chunk, I also got the oatmeal scotchies (sp?), ginger and peanut butter with chocolate and butterscotch since they didn't have plain. We love a variety. Classic St. Paul bakery and Cafe. Personally, I only get the coffee and the baked goods. The sandwiches seem like something I would make at home, so why would I get that out? The Swedish Coffee is my #1, followed by Magic Bars, which are probably the best I've ever had (7 layer bars). Normally they are only found on Saturdays, but I saw them on a random weekday the other day. The staff is always friendly and cable. The decor is fine/clean but a bit older/fuctional. The line to order can be a bit chaotic at busy times, but they do a good job with it. They are now owned by Cafe Latte across the street, which I recommend, if you want actual food (great salad, solid soup, and quality rolls). read more

Just came in for the first time in quite a while, and it is just fine. In particular I like the ambiance and the service; it has a real urban-fancy vibe that hits the spot sometimes. The food has always been fine, especially the baked goods which people always really like in my experience. This time I had a panini which was good; would have been a bit flavorless without the sauce, which came in a cup on the side. The toasted bread in there was great. I got a mocha which was satisfactory. You can park in the lot behind Victoria Crossing for up to three hours; that lot can be a little dicey, and I hate how you're stuck in one lonnnnnnng lane in there. Street parking can be found as well. I've restored to parking on Summit, and that really isn't that bad. Mostly I just want to hang out here with friends for kind of a while. read more

Pleasantly surprised! I stopped by for pastries to bring to my friend's parents. I ordered a variety of croissants and the workers 3 favorite cookies. The highlights were the almond croissant and the oatmeal scotch cookie. Wow flavors were on point, not too sweet. Cookie was soft and enough crunch the croissant was layered and flakey! All the other croissants and cookies were consistent as well those two just were our favorites. I wouldn't hesitate to try any flavors that caught my eye here! read more

A Grand Avenue staple for the best croissants, cookies and breakfast paninis. This is a sister company to Cafe Latte and therefore offer the same espresso and moo steamer drinks. Some of my favorites include the plain and florentine croissants, fruit cup, egg/cheese and spinach panini, amaretto, m&m and chocolate chip cookies along with the spice island latte. This is a cafeteria style line so be prepared to wait. There are many tables inside and if you come in the nicer months, they offer a few tables outside as well. Bread and Chocolate was recommended to me in a conversation with a gal at a store one day so I ended up here with some friends. We got chocolate croissants (YUM!), coffee drinks, and some breakfast. Our breakfast items (an omelet and lunch paninis that are available during breakfast) were what we expected. The red pepper sauce we got with our food was pretty good! For drinks, we tried the turtle mocha (caramel + chocolate) and the raspberry white choc latte - both with reduced sweetness. The team members who helped us with our orders were super nice and helpful with our decision making - great service! There's a corner of the cafe with a fireplace as well as plenty of seating by the big windows where you can watch the hustle and bustle of this busy part of Saint Paul. I really like Bread and Chocolate for their pastries and croissants. I recently went in after a haircut over at JUUT across the street and picked up half a dozen pastries to include ham & cheese croissants, butter croissants, and two chocolate chunk cookies. Everything was so good, I shared the cookies with my dad when he came to visit, he loved them too! The ham and cheese croissant was my favorite though if I had to choose, when I got home I found that those were freshly made and still warm from the oven! One star off because Bread & Chocolate does not sell bread. Which you'd kind of think based on the title of the restaurant, but rest assured, you can always go across the street to Cafe Latte on Grand which has the same owner for fresh baked bread. I was not a fan of the coffee here. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the coffee a 5... For the amount of money they charge they should invest in better coffee machines. I always tell myself I'm getting something different and then....I just don't. The croissants are SO flakey and yummy I can't resist! The apple ones are my favorite but they were out by early afternoon on a Saturday so I bought a chocolate and a raspberry cream cheese. Both had ample filling. I love pastries and any baked good, especially from local family owned shops, so if I could live here, I would! Growing up in St. Paul, my older sisters used to take me to Cafe Latte or Bread and Chocolate for an extra special treat! Did you know they are sister family owned businesses and kitty cornered from each other on Grand Ave? Another reason to support both! My go to is usually one of their delicious scones, which btw usually runs out fast on the weekends (I got there at 10am on a Sunday and they were all gone). My new favorite if you are looking for a savory baked goodie is the Florentine croissant, filled with spinach, parmesan, and scallions- buttery, savory and oh so filling! I don't usually get my coffee or tea here but my sister loves their chai. There is also some options for a warm panini/sandwiches too. As for covid- it seems like they are taking it seriously, which I appreciate!
