My friend recommended me to this bakery when she found out I was going to check out some bakeries near her house. Located in the neighborhood, street parking available. Nice cafe on the corner, this bakery was busy. Lots of people inside ordering coffee and pastries to go and some dining in with their laptops. The cafe also offers food as well. I went here last week and wow what a wonderful bakery this is. It's on the small side but even with a busy crowd I could find a table. The atmosphere was very loud and hard to talk to a person sitting next to you unfortunately which is why I had to take off a star. The food was on the pricey side for a baked good but they were so scrumptious I didn't really mind it by the end. The lime tart was beyond spectacular. Like a key lime pie's older brother. My daughter and I had a little date at Patisserie 46 this week and we loved every moment! The selection of breads, pastries, and treats is amazing, with so many different flavors and textures. By the time we arrived just before noon, many of the items had already run out, so if you've got your heart set on something specific, arrive early! We chose a croissant with vanilla cream and chocolate chips, the veggie quiche, yogurt parfait, hot chocolate, and their seasonal pumpkin spice latte. Everything was so tasty! The croissant was beautiful and had a nice crispy crust but soft inside. The quiche was also delicious and was served with a small side salad. The quiche is cooked a bit less than others I've had, giving it more of a slight jiggly texture. I thought it was great! The parfait bowl was topped with seeds, fruit, and nuts, providing a really lovely texture. The yogurt was super flavorful too! Both drinks were tasty but especially my daughter's hot chocolate! But that might take the sheen off what makes this bakery/coffee shop unique: its fabulous, unmatched breads, pastries, cakes, sandwiches, and breakfast quiches. Yes, it's crowded, especially on weekend mornings, when it's hard to snag an open table, but the wait is well worth it. Just be prepared to have your goodies bagged for enjoyment in your car or at home. As a bread maker, I'm especially fond (read: jealous) of their artisan breads. My favorite is the sourdough Miche, a rye-and-wheat combination. The baguette was a little dry, but the sourdough was great! It has a nice crunchy crust and a soft flavorful crumb, and the olives enhance the flavor. At around $7 a dessert, they are not so expensive that I feel guilty getting them once in a while, but the quality of the desserts are epic. Came on a busy Saturday morning, and when I say busy, this place was busting at the seams. Seems like a great, but small coffee shop. They have some indoor seating as well as outdoor tables as well. There seem to be a good amount of free street parking. They did have quite the selection of baked goods and treats on display in addition to coffee drinks and breakfast items. The service was really quick, and it was nice to see smiles on the staff's faces. I don't know when a good time is to come, but I would definitely return. read more

It can be busy but they have both indoor and outdoor seating and at least 1 larger table for families. The ambience is Chipotle+. Terrible artwork on a few walls. The biggest wall has no artwork at all. The chairs were really uncomfortable. All but 2 of the tables are two tops, so if you have a bigger party, good luck with that. There's a bunch of floor mats haphazardly covering the floor. Watch your step! And the noise! So noisy in there. No soft surfaces so the sound just bounces around. No nice music or anything. Overall unpleasant experience. Bathroom gross. I had a bit of a sweet tooth and we were in the area so I ran in. I asked the person behind the counter what the best thing for a chocolate lover would be, and he suggested a chocolate cookie. I selected a lemon tart for myself, and two banana caramels (one for each of us). My husband said he thought the cookie was boring and dry. I tried a bite and have to say I agree! The lemon tart was better, and had a great balance between sweet and tart. The lemon cream was perfect, but the crust was really dry and reminded me more of a cracker than a sweet crust. Okay I have absolutely been sleeping on this place! I have lived in the neighborhood for three years and I just started going here this summer. Pastries are literally so good - I mean they partner with coffee shops all over the city so you know they are good but honestly just going in there to look at the pastry case is a treat without tasting anything. My favorite thing aside from the baked goods is their outdoor patio space. It's this breezy corner in a quiet neighborhood in south Minneapolis with big leafy trees proving enough shade for a comfortable hang on a sunny day. Amazing pastries but lackluster coffee... Have been wanting to come for a while and finally did. It was fairly busy for a Saturday morning, but there were very friendly staff that kept the line moving quick and efficiently. There are a good number of tables, but the space felt a little dark and dreary. I tried a pistachio eclair which was absolutely amazing. Topped with chopped pistachios and then filled with a pistachio cream - truly delicious. It was a bit pricey at $8 but thought it was worth a try. The coffee was bad. I ordered a cappuccino and it did not have a great flavor, there was an insane amount of foam on top, and was not really how a cappuccino should be. The high prices and the disappointing coffee are the reason for the 3 star review. read more

This bakery and Café is 100% worth a stop. Not only do they have an extremely wide variety of pastries and baked goods, but they have a really nice drink menu as well. Prepare yourself for a line as it will be busy. While there are seats inside During busy hours, it'll be very hard to find a table. I also recommend if you're able to bus or bike, that would make it a lot easier to visit as parking is a little limited in the intersection. Overall, I think about this bakery weekly. I had a chocolate croissant which was divine, and the group I was with shared a chocolate torte and a lemon tart and I would love to go back again. Now, while the seating was full while we were there, it wasn't too loud and the lighting was really nice. It's a really cozy spot to set up for the day if you're looking for somewhere to work away from home. And they do have tables big enough for small groups to meet up. If you have the chance to check it out, I recommend heading there this week or weekend and grabbing three or four different pastries as you will want to try them all! read more

This pastry shop scene in the twin cities is phenomenal and this one is one of those special places. I love the precautions that they are taking during the pandemic. For now they are only doing online/phone ordering and curbside pickup. I didn't know until I got there so I pulled up to a curbside pickup parking spot and ordered right there on the phone and they brought my pastries out to my designated spot. Easy as pie! I tried 4 different pastries today as the new year's resolutions are already out the window ;) Almond paste croissant - really freaking good. Huge pastry and it's filled to the brim with almond paste. I know some places skimp out on the paste but not here. Sweet and satisfying. Kouign Amann - small but mighty. The king of all pastries . Theirs had a crunch on the inside and was soft, chewy, and sweet on the inside. I think I need to run a marathon on the treadmill now after devouring that one. Spinach Feta puff pastry - perfect for that savory craving. Very tasty. I always love spinach-cheese combos - combine it with puff pastry and we are golden. Pointsetta pastry - this one was unique - shaped like a pinwheel and had raspberry glaze on the tips and chocolate mousse-like cream in the middle. Pretty and delicious! After that I'm going to lie on the couch, rub my stuffed belly and realize with a smile that I made the best decision ever by going here. The calories were worth it! read more

Very disappointed with the lack of service and lack of management resolution. We went on Saturday. There were tables, but people that don't respect other diners and instead of seating at a table for when there were 2 people that is very disrespectful. Now, the management also does not care. And I don't care if those disrespectful people get upset because they were going to be told that they should not sit on a table for 6 when they were 2 or in a table for 4 when he was only one. The irresponsible management that only thing that did was that we left with a 7 year-old granddaughter. Of course they don't care, because people will pour in like they usually do without seeing or caring about the reality of the indifferent service. Nobody cares lately. If the food is bad or good, if the service is bad or good they go and ingest food, they don't eat, they don't relax or savor the food, enjoying the taste and the good company and the good moment. This is our first time trying a rose, and it did not disappoint. It's $6 each. I ordered one and paired it with a latte. It was served cold. The ring wrap around is pure white chocolate. The first layer was mousse. It's soft, at a perfect temperature, and it melted on my tongue. The second spoon hit the "fillings", which composed of some crushed up nuts, a little bit of sponge cake, something crunchy, and grains of rock sugar. That's so many textures and flavors nicely put together!! Sweetness level is at 3/5, which is perfect. We also tried their baguette. It was ok. I wish we didn't get lunch before we came to this bakery. Their savory menu looks great. I peaked at sandwiches that came out from the kitchen. They were at good portions, like two people can get filled up with one sandwich and a Rory Rose. There were plenty of free street parkings. They do have a restroom for customers. read more

The caprese was mostly bread and lettuce with a small amount of tomato (it's currently tomato season!!) and small cheese - no S&P or oil to be found! We started off an amazing day today by coming here this morning for coffee and pastries! The staff were all very observant and made sure that we were quickly helped despite there being quite a few people inside. Sad that we weren't able to snag any of the open seating outside, but it was a Saturday morning so we should've anticipated a rush. My friends and I ordered a gâteau basque, canelés, and a pavlova to share along with an iced chai latte and cold brew. The gâteau basque cake was definitely our favorite out of the three. The cake was light, not too sweet, and it was complemented by the rich custard. The canelé had an impossibly crispy, caramelized crust for its super bouncy and moist texture inside, and the pavlova was pretty good as well. The only major disappointment we had was the iced chai latte-- or what my friend referred to as "white people chai". It was SO unbearably sweet and tasted only like cinnamon sugar in milk, which in truth was probably what it was mostly made of. Would not recommend this! As a patisserie savante and French person, I know the difference between good and great. This is one of the greats. Patisserie 46 is no doubt a little piece of Paris. I don't think it could possibly get any better. It can be a little overpriced and yet still absolutely worth it. If you want to experience what a real croissant tastes like in Paris, go to this place. Some things I would suggest you try: 1) The chocolate almond croissant is fabulous. I've tried some of these other places and it usually is a flop because it's difficult to put so much filling in there and still get a beautiful lamination. At P46, they somehow managed to magically perfect this thing. You get the nutty caramelized flavors of the almond croissant and all that classic flavor from the chocolate croissant 2) The tarte au citron is a French classic, so it's pretty noticeable if it's not done correctly. They completely nailed this one. Quite literally tastes like the ones I had in Paris as a child. Very citrusy and a beautiful melt-in-your-mouth texture 3) They just added this Parisian flan to their menu (or at least it's the first time I'm seeing it). Absolutely brilliant. The flaky pâte feuilleté crust is a beautiful twist on this one. Adds a nice modern flare to the dessert. The only critique I have is that the filling was good but not great. While the pâte feuillette is great, I think it must've made things more complex for the pâtissières as there are more things that now need to be taken into account.
