They do not stand behind their products! I have bought from them for years, purchased a large cake at 5:44 Saturday for my cousin's birthday. We cut it at about 7:15, it was dry. I called Sunday left a message, no return call. Called again on wednesday the girl on phone was rude. I was told to bring back the cake so they could figure out why it was dry. I don't get a chance to visit this bakery too often because I do not live in town. But everyone raves about it all the time. So my 90 yr old aunt and I decided we would buy a cake, the Red Velvet Bundt cake and share it. I asked to have them please cut it in half and put the other portion in a separate box. Different homes. They refused. Whatever happened to customer service? Well, let me tell you. That was the worst Red Velvet cake I've ever had. It was sooooo dry. Absolutely no flavor. The BEST bakery for cakes. Period. You will be amazed at the flavor, texture (airiness) & quality. On a scale of 1 to 10 about 100. Pricey? Very. And worth every dollar. I don't think you can find a better tasting or more exquisitely decorated cake anywhere. Great cakes - EXCEPT rude service, I went in to order a cake for my husbands b-day, and they said I had to order it a week and a half (for a simple carrot cake) - I came in on a Tuesday morning for a Friday afternoon cake.. They said that is the norm and it is on their website (it is not) and they had a Hollywood event that weekend anyway. They said I could only pick something from the case. This place is way to pricey for what you get and they have terrible customer service. The owner has a god complex or something. We had purchased sourdough rolls from them that were just awful. My mother went to take back one of the unopened packages that we had bought. The owner told her that they don't make mistakes and that there was nothing wrong with them. They did not taste like sourdough at all. They tasted like paste. We threw out the first bag. My mom told the owner to try one if he was so confident. He refused. I don't buy cakes from them because they are way too costly and frankly mine are better. If you need a wedding cake try Ann's bakery or Heavenly Cakes. They are delicious and you don't have to deal with the attitude of someone that shouldn't even have a business. read more

I ordered a cake here for my daughter's baptism (red velvet cake with strawberry filling with french whip icing, assorted fruit border, and white chocolate shavings) and it was soo scrumptious! I got nothing but compliments. I ordered a half sheet and it was almost gone instantly since people were asking for seconds! The fruit tasted fresh and very sweet as well. I will definitely order another cake from here in the future. I gave it 4 stars because I did try the red velvet cupcake once and it was a little on the dry side. Disappointed w/ Service- Hired the Bread Basket for our Daughter's wedding. A cake was ordered with fresh flowers to be put on after wards. Imagine our surprise after the wedding and seeing the plain white cake without any flowers! Come to find out the flowers were delivered to the bakery, but the cake was already "on the truck". They never should of taken delivery of the flowers, the florist would of brought the flowers to us. The wedding wasn't until 5:00pm, a simple phone call to myself or our daughter and we could of sent someone to pick up the flowers. Instead flowers were taken from the centerpieces to place on the cake! We never saw the flowers. Last we heard they were in the fridge back at the shop and we could pick them up.. the day AFTER the wedding.. read more

I absolutely LOVE their sandwiches. Its a walk up to go counter in a bakery. I would STRONGLY recommend that you have a lot of time to wait though. Not because they are always so busy (sometimes they are) but because they don't seem to have a very good system for getting people taken care of. It's a very slow process. This bakery needs competition. They have either forgotten customer service or they never possessed it. I asked them to make a simple cut in the middle of their Napoleons. That way the guests the Napoleons were be purchased for would have the choice of eating one half or a whole piece if they wanted. You would have thought I was asking them to spit on their product. So think about this for a minute...they make the Napoleons in a sheet and then cut them into slices which they then place in the counter for display. That's a vertical cut to make them into slices. When I asked them to make a horizontal cut they said that was impossible. Yes impossible. I asked the counter help to ask the supervisor...the supervisor said it was against policy. I thought of asking to see the written policy but decided this bakery is snobbish and really have no sense of the customer comes first. I would love for a Portos bakery to move this way and put them out of business. Competition. This bakery sticks people because they can with no consequences! read more

So disappointed in this place. Been coming here for years. I often take pastries to client meetings. Recently (more than once) I have purchased the pastries and they seemed old. Very dry and no taste. I don't know if there is a new baker making these or they are just not selling them the day they bake them. I don't understand why people rant and rave about this place. I have tried their cookies, cake and coffee cake. They were all OK but nothing exceptional and kind of expensive for what you get. Are you deluded by still believing the "customer is right"? If you are, an experience with the Bread Basket will show you that that vision of capitalism has long passed by their operation. Today's punishment came at the hands of a clerk named "Linda". She was a dead ringer in terms of her behavior for the Soup Nazi character. After 15 minutes of me telling her what I wanted in a cake and her telling me that it basically didn't matter what I wanted and that she would control how I ordered the cake, I left and went over to the Ralph's supermarket in the same shopping center and had them professionally and courteously take my order and promise to do what I wanted and I found that they could/would provide it on time and at a much cheaper cost than Bread Basket. Unless you're a glutton for punishment, use other sources for cakes and pastries. To support a local business, I called to make an appointment to discuss a wedding cake, and because my party was 8 people short of their minimum, I wasn't allowed to make an appointment and had to "pop in with my pictures randomly and hope someone would be available to talk to me about making my wedding cake." This is an important day for any bride/groom and warrants more than a pop in. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Take this from a baker! Yes Bread Basket used to be a great local bakery about 4-5 years ago. Now they are just overrated. Here's why they had a great baker there that left and opened their own bakery. We still order cakes "very rarely" from this place. The issues I have are the bread is dry and the prices are WAAAYYYY too high. Don't get me wrong the cakes with fruit and chocolate look very beautiful and the frosting is light and great tasting but the bread makes you wanna grab a glass of milk. And to pay $60+ for a round cake, no way! Also the quality of the chocolate is not a great quality. It is the middle of the road. 5 years ago they didn't skimp like they do now. Trust me you will be disappointed to pay that much for anything with dry bread. Quality and ingredients are being cut at every corner. I know because I can make the exact same cakes they do and I use the best ingredients. The taste and moisture of the cake is obvious. And every baker knows that sugar water even will make the bread better if they overcooked it to the point of it being dry. HORRIBLE! Their cakes taste awful! Super dry. Couldn't even slice the cake, put a knife in it and it crumled. My granddaughter had a cute little petit fours and it tasted awful too. I took a loaf of sweet bread home and there were FRUIT FLIES in the bag. ewwwww!!! All I can say is this place has gone downhill over the last few years. I'll never go back!!! Came in for a wedding cake tasting and have to say, was not very impressed. We payed 20$ for the tasting (fine) & got 4 slices of cake. 2 were vanilla and the other were chocolate, the only real differences were the filling which were incredibly similar. We were not even offered a list of other flavors until we asked at the end of the tasting. Some of our requests for a simple cake either could not be done or had to be ordered out. They make ok everyday cakes but I would not order for a wedding. read more

A Bread Basket cake is predictable and once you've had one, you've had them all. Tough, dry cake, good icing, chocolate shavings and weepy fruit. That's the MO and they don't deviate.
