Choosing Heavenly Cakes and working with Olivia to do our nostalgic dream wedding cake was one of the best decisions we made in all of our wedding planning. We wanted a tiered cake with a water fountain à la the 80s and 90s, and we talked to a dozen bakeries that told us it wasn't possible. Not Olivia. Right away she was a pro and had experience with exactly what we wanted. For the whole process she was quick to reply and very helpful, she's also just a delightful person who cares about her work and all her clients. The cake was so stunning and beautiful, and the two flavors we had (chocolate with chocolate ganache and vanilla with berries and cream) were both the best wedding cake I've ever had. We felt so lucky that the baker who could do what we wanted also was the standout winner for best tasting of all the cakes we tried. We got so many compliments. We're still enjoying the leftovers and it is so good and we're getting asked for extras. Honestly we were disappointed in some of our other vendors, so we are not just handing out positive reviews, I'm proud to sing Heavenly Cakes' praises. This service was a standout from initial planning all the way to execution. Our wedding was July 4 in Somis and the cake was beautiful outside all evening no problem and it was perfect when served. We can't recommend them enough! read more

We ordered our wedding cake here and it was honestly one of the best decisions we made. We did a 2 tier round cake with vintage piping in all white, serving about 65 people, with a chocolate mousse flavor and it was so good! It was not only beautiful but actually tasted amazing and we got so many compliments from our guests. Communication with Olivia was super easy, she helped guide the design, and the at home tasting was such a nice touch. Delivery and setup were completely stress free and everything was on time. We come to the Ventura area one or two tubes a year drink Arizona. ALWAYS make a trip to Heavenly Cakes for their amazing donuts! My hubby has been buying donuts from them for over 30 years and has NEVER had a disappointing donut!! He told them today that he considers a dozen donuts from Heavenly Cakes better money spent than a steak dinner! If you've never tried their donuts, you need to do so immediately! I Bought 24 cupcakes and became disappointed as soon as I opened the box. I saw poor quality cupcakes that appeared to be made with little or no effort. They did not meet the visual expectations we discussed (which was a very rushed and disinterested conversation from Olivia). Each cupcake looked different and was not visually pleasing. I paid over $2 a cupcake that tasted like they came from a box. She did not take transport into consideration. The cupcakes were placed in a larger box than needed, with no regard to structure, so they toppled over in the short, straight 2-minute drive to my house. I had to reconstruct about half of them by reapplying the frosting and strategically redecorating them myself. read more

I also got 4 cupcakes and I had committed myself to buying 4 but wasn't sure I loved 4 flavors of what was left. I ended up with (in order of interest): apple pie, black forest, snickerdoodle and mint chocolate. I should have read my review from 12 years ago because the mint chocolate still tastes like toothpaste to me, but it's a very mild mint so that's good. I wasn't sure I'd like the snickerdoodle but it was amazing! The black forest cupcake had a maraschino cherry inside, which was an awesome surprise! I ate the apple pie one last and it had a little actual apple pie filling inside of it! LOVE THAT!! It feels sacrilegious of me to say, but I think the cupcakes have just a little too much frosting. It's also fair to say these are not cheap cupcakes. You can taste the quality of the ingredients, and they look beautiful, and you pay a premium for all that. Overall, I highly recommend these cupcakes and will definitely stop here again.

I went in expecting to enjoy a birthday celebration, but instead, I left feeling frustrated and stressed. First off, I was disappointed to find out they couldn't offer me my birthday buns, which is a tradition (past 8 years) I was looking forward to. When I mentioned it, another guest in the store even offered to buy me one that was beside the point. While I appreciated her kindness, it felt awkward, and I didn't want to create any turmoil or drama over a 7$ bundtlet. I also expressed that my intention was to buy two more. To make matters worse, the customer in front of me was facing the same issue. It's someone's birthday--how hard can it be to acknowledge that and provide a little extra something? It should be a joyful occasion, not the most stressful part of my day. Overall, I expected much better, especially when celebrating something special. I won't be returning anytime soon.

POINT BEING!: These are delicious, hearty, fresh, wonderfully flavored dishes at a fair price, made and served by friendly, proud staff. Wow! Where to start - ok, samosas it is! Lovely little delicacies, and some nice options. I have eaten the chicken, the lamb and, of course, the staple Alu(aka Aloo) samosas. All beautifully packed with plenty of filling and light, crispy exterior. What next.... Curries! OHHHHH....oooooo...their curries are SO GOOD! I really love a mutton, but my friend favors poultry and seafood, so this day in May, we ordered the Shrimp Coconut Curry. FABULOUS!!!! AND PLENTIFUL!!!! I have also had Mutton Curry, Lamb Vindaloo, boneless Chicken Korma and the Goat in Coconut Curry - my personal fave. Since I'm talking curry, I'll remind you you'll want some bread with those curries. My favorite naan here are Onion Kulcha, Keema(lamb), and the awesome Peshwari (stuffed raisins, almonds, cashews, cherries and coconut). HowEV-ER - the GARLIC CHEESE NAAN is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!! I'm drooling just thinking about it.... Moving on toooo...TANDORI! if you like lamb, the rack her is TOO DELICIOUS to pass up! With a group? Get the mixed tandoori and everyone can taste a little something. Actually, it's a great appetizer for a group and a great way to introduce friends to Indian herbs and cooking methods. Honorable mentions go to: Saag Paneer(it's always near and dear, that Saag Paneer!), Paneer Masala, Daal Tudka, Papadum(add Mango Chutney, of course!), Rice Pellow(a saffron rice) and Mango Lassi to tame some of the spice. I order all my spice dishes "white girl spicy" so the mango lassi was really just a yummy yogurt treat. The restaurant is large, beautifully decorated with traditional and modern Indian music videos playing on hanging TVs and well cared for. The staff is always friendly, inviting, courteous and helpful. They keep their eyes moving to watch and see who needs anything, but also allow privacy and a no need to rush your meal feeling. The food presentation is lovely and I always feel like they are proud and enthusiastic to help guide me through dishes I'm not so familiar with. This area of the harbor is pretty quiet, serves a lot of people who live close by and walk, so the parking lot is large, mostly empty and free. Go. Enjoy. A large white board was the menu. Lots of options to pick from. However with the variety we ordered the food was just ok with the grilled snapper and fries being the stand outs. The fried fish seemed a bit too oily, the tempura batter too thick on the vegetables and the clam chowder needed more flavor. Given the years in business, I was hoping for more from the food.

I ate the apple pie one last and it had a little actual apple pie filling inside of it! LOVE THAT!! It feels sacrilegious of me to say, but I think the cupcakes have just a little too much frosting. It's also fair to say these are not cheap cupcakes. You can taste the quality of the ingredients, and they look beautiful, and you pay a premium for all that.
