What a disaster on my wedding day! First of all The Bread Basket gets you to love their cake by having you sample fresh moist cake, which is delicious. The cake that I received for my wedding was dry and had little filling. I could have dealt with a subpar tasting wedding cake, even though this bakery is supposed to be the best, but it was missing the flowers. Missing flowers? I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but I had no cake topper or any decorations on my cake whatsoever. Flowers were the only decorations, so my cake was a three tier, plain white cake. I found my bridesmaids with other wedding guests pulling flowers out of the centerpieces and placing them on the cake. Luckily, I left a picture on the cake table of what the cake was supposed to look like. My girls and wedding guests saved the day, but it was mortifying knowing my guests had to place the flowers on the cake It was also sad that a few of my centerpieces had to be sacrificed. A few days after the wedding I contacted The Bread Basket to ask what happened to the cake flowers. I was told, "Unfortunately, your florist dropped off the flowers a day late, and flowers that we are supposed to take care of are to be delivered the day before delivery. We would have put them on but the cake was already in the truck with the other deliveries. We actually still have your flowers here." I understand that my florist messed up and delivered the flowers a day late. What I don't understand is why they could not bring the flowers with them when they dropped off the cake. They could have placed them on the cake when they dropped it off or they could have at the least left them on the cake table. Why did they take the cake flowers and keep them knowing they were not going to do anything with them. I did not let this disaster ruin my wedding but when you pay for quality and professionalism and receive such callousness and disregard it is very upsetting and disappointing. read more

[Bread basket misplaced my birthday pre-paid $130 valued cake & offered NO solution, NO refund, NO replacement of any kind, NOT even a lesser valued one of their $30 cakes] They just didn't couldn't take responsibility and were ok with my loss and making us proceed to our birthday celebration with NO cake.. Appalling!! More details. I went to pick up my prepaid $130 cake and they told me my cake wasn't there. The employee claimed someone pick it up already. This thought I had arrived at my requested cake pick up timing. The employee continued to say that the pick up time had been changed to a much earlier time and was handed over. Confused how this is possible if I have the receipt. I learned no receipt is required you just give the name the cake was ordered under. This is a poor practice in a busy bakery. So anyone not willing to buy a cake, can just hang out in their bakery, listen to my order, and wait for my name and observe me making the payment on it, and then just call after I leave, change the time and then steal a free cake. Or for all I know how do I know Bread Basket even made my cake. A slip of paper fall to the floor and it gets missed. Someone messed up and forgot to make my cake. They gave my cake to the wrong person who didn't notice it wasn't what they ordered. Their system seems to be based to give out cakes until there are none left. Mine did not have a name on it. Making it fairly generic. My missing cake isn't what makes the a bitter service. To me it's the fact that Breadbasket offered NO solution to my missing cake. Not even after the police were called to their location to make a report. Not that giving me a less valued cake would make up the total loss, but it sure would have been better then sending me on my way empty handed. I mean their value on my special even seems to be $30, that they were unwilling to help out and refused to shair my loss with me.. I guess Ill have to find a new place to buy yummy cakes like the Bundt Cake. Just as good! So warning don't prepay your cakes!! Since if they cant produce it you are S.O.L.!!! read more

If I could give a Zero I would. Worst customer service i have ever experienced, an the manager Linda is a mean woman. She yells at her employees right in front of customers, gets them all worked up an then the poor gals have to tend to customers an try an put a smile on their face. Heard Linda say we do need them they need us, really Linda well I definitely don't need your poor horrible attitude. I'm done going here because I can't stand the way the employer treats the employees an talks about customers. So sad an not fair. An to top it off this is all done when the owners are not in. I was recommended by a family member about this place that is was very good, but I ordered a birthday cake and it looked very good but when it came down to cutting it it feel apart very quickly and the cake was really dry, I excepted it to be a lot better and taste better for the price I paid, probably won't be going back there again read more

The fruit tarts are exceptionally good and my family in Santa Barbara insist I bring a fruit tart whenever we have a family event or celebration. I've had a couple of their breads including their raisin bread, and the bread is fresh (it's a bakery) but I didn't find they were particularly tasty. The prices are very high for what you get even if it is some sort of artisan bread. I think a loaf will easily run you $5 read more

Oh Bread basket, you guys are good. Your cakes are the utmost party pleasers and I love going for lunch. I usually order a sandwich with the yummy whole wheat bread, sliced turkey and the maui onion mustard. mmmmmm. Then, you include a side salad (The pasta salad is awesome), some grapes and stawberries and to top it all off, a huge chocolate truffle. ooohhhhh. my mouth is watering thinking about it. One of the best cakes I've ever had. Cake was moist, icing was not too sweet and thick, but creamy. I'm not a big icing person but this is one I will lick the plate. The custard filling was also amaze-balls! It was smooth and again, not too sweet. My mother-in-law buys the bdays cakes here and I can't get enough of it. They also use fresh strawberries - prob from oxnard, the strawberry capital of the world - and raspberries and blueberries. The white and milk chocolate shavings is a perfect touch to this cake. Although I live around the corner from this place I have to honestly say that it is one of the best bakeries I've ever been too. And like many of you.... I am a bug fan of baked goodies. I get all my cakes from here whenever possible. I usually go for the fruit basket cake which contains a mix of berries as it's filling. I absolutly adore their lemon raspberry muffin... it is to die for. Literally the best I've ever had. They also serve sandwiches and I must say that their chicken salad sandwich is pretty delicious. I've haven't had any of the others but if you like chicken salad you will like theirs. It's a little pricier than the average sandwich shop but worth it once in a while. read more

Love their white fruit basket cake with fruit basket filling (mixed berries in creamy custard). This is like a wedding cake for any occasion and never ceases to impress anyone I serve it to. Service was friendly and helpful, tho there was some confusion about me wanting strawberry filling or fruit basket when I said mixed berries several times. 0 Stars!! Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Went in for a cake tasting for my wedding cake and was quoted $1,200 for a 3 tier simple wedding cake! Linda, the manager was by far the rudest women I have ever met. She laughed as I explained what I wanted my cake to look like, and talked over me saying that her cake decorator doesn't go off images they do what they can and it will not look like the picture at all, since he doesn't know how to do that. She didn't try to help and was seriously awful with other customers that walked in. I overheard her talking about customer as they left. I requested a call from the owner of the bakery to let him know how awful Linda was and he laughed and said he didn't believe it because Linda is so nice. As I read off other reviews pertaining to Linda and her bad reviews on Yelp he said that those were all lies from unhappy customers trying to get free things. Such a terrible place! It was all meant to be as I was able to find a cake company that did my cake exactly how I wanted and it tasted even better for $450.00!!! Can you believe they were even able to do cake decorating at a fraction of the cost?! DO NOT GIVE A PENNY TO THE BREAD BASKET! I feel sorry for anyone who works for Linda or these owners as they talk crap about customers all day and probably even employees as other reviews mention! Terrible! read more

It's true, their cakes are moist and delicious. I've bought a couple cakes from them- both had fruit inside and were amazing. On occasion I'll grab a cupcake or a slice of cake if I'm in the area. The best cake I've ever had was from The Bread Basket. I'm not a huge cake lover but admittedly the cakes from this bakery are special. Years ago my daughter's 18th birthday cake came from here, a red velvet with a cream cheese frosting. Searching for the perfect cake led me to The Bread Basket, all other bakeries explained to me their red velvet cake was food coloring and artificial flavoring but Bread Basket explained the use of red berry extract for coloring and flavor and boy did that cake taste great. I've also had one of their cakes at a party that was really good, but then I ordered the same one myself later and it was dry and not nearly as good. Today I kept trying to call to get a quote on a cake and the phone was constantly busy. When I finally got through she just kept saying she couldn't hear me. I was speaking pretty loud at my desk at work so I asked her if she could go somewhere quieter because it was really loud in the background. She said she couldn't. After many cake tastings at various bakeries, my husband and I chose Bread Basket to make our wedding cake. The cake tasting was awesome. They have it well planned out. They seat you outside and bring some albums with cake pictures for you to browse. Then they bring out full-size and huge slices of cake for you to try. They know you can't finish it, so after a bit they bring out a box for the cake you don't finish. Price-wise it was less expensive than the other places we looked at (Susina's, Patticake's Porto's to name a few) if you count the delivery fee. this place was the closest one to our wedding site in Malibu that we liked. If you bring in a picture of your wedding cake around your 1st anniversary, they'll give you a 6" cake for free! The fruit basket cake was just as delicious at our wedding as it was on our anniversary. :) read more

Visited Bread Basket this past Saturday with high expectations after reading all the excellent reviews here in Yelp! I'm happy to report, they did not disappoint :) I went with three slices for me and my family to try out. Of course I chose a slice of their signature Bread Basket slice, a Chocolate with Chocolate Mousse slice and a Tulip Cup (not a slice). - The Bread Basket- Yum! Light airy and sweet, but not sugary sweet. It's a white cake with a single thick center of fresh mixed berries with a sweet whipped cream in the center and coating the outside of this delectable concoction. Delicious in its simplicity. The cake, looked dense (pound cake like) but it was light and slightly sweet with a beautiful mix of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries (YUMMY!) which I think may be sourced locally? - The Chocolate Cake- Very good! Not dry (which happens with choco cakes) moist cake with a thick chocolate mousse center and I believe chocolate whipped icing. The mousse was a nice thick consistency, not fudge thick, not as light as whipped cream somewhere in between the two. A nice flavor, a bit rich but in an ooh soo good way :) - The Tulip Cup- probably my least favorite, but still good. A swirled chocolate cup filled with sweet, thick whipped cream and topped with raspberries. I'm not a huge fan of whipped cream so the 1/2 cup or so filling the chocolate cup was a bit too much for me. Lastly, their cookies caught my eye as they were packing up my cakes, so I selected a Caramel Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip and a Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. My favorite overlying feature of all three is the use of I believe oats (?) in their cookies. It creates this great chewy texture and kind of makes me feel like I'm eating healthy, lol :) Fantastic chewiness and love the use of the mini chocolate chips! Delish! The service wasn't overly friendly and some woman did cut in front of me (rude!) but they were courteous and quick! Great slices, though next time I'll stick with their signature cake, it was by far my favorite! Prices are a bit on the higher side, but not terrible. My three slices plus three cookies came to $17 +change. read more

3 stars: A-OK I've been here a handful of times in the past year. It's a bit cramped inside, and sometimes it feels cluttered and disorganized, but I've had attentive service each time. As others have mentioned, this is not a bakery or cake shop where you can sit and enjoy your baked treats with a cup of coffee or tea. There's no tables or seats inside the store. The fruit basket cake is probably their signature item. The filling has blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries with whipped cream. The cake is pretty good. I got it one morning when the opened and it was a little frozen - which was odd. I let it sit out for a while at home and it tasted better. It's a nice local bakery. Love their cakes with the bread basket filling. They always use delicious, fresh local berries. -1 star: It made the decision easy to get my wedding cake from here. We wanted to save a little money so we ordered a smaller tiered cake and a sheet cake to be kept behind the scenes. We stuck with one flavor for both. The tiered cake that we cut for the pictures was fine, but when the sheet cake was served to the guests, we realized it was the wrong cake. We contacted Bread Basket about this the week after and they only offered us a free 6" cake. A little disappointed in that since the entire sheet cake (the wrong one) was served first and we had over half of the tiered cake (the right one) leftover. read more

I have bought cakes here a bunch if times for birthdays. I like that the fruits on their cakes are fresh and very delicious. The fruits make up for the sweetness of the cake. I like that their cakes are not too sweet. If you are looking for a sweeter cake get the one with the chocolate strips on the sides of the cake. Their cakes are not bad at all and I like that it is local. They just charge way too much for their cakes. I bought one of their smallest cakes last month and it cost at about $39. Their cake slices are $5.95. You could only imagine how much their large cakes are. read more
