Stopped by while I was in the area before shopping in Trader Joe's. I ordered a single Chocolate cupcake with buttercream icing. It was okay not really flavorful and a little on the dry side. I pushed to the side most of the buttercream, too much for my liking. I used to like cupcakes better than I do now and have, in recent years, outright avoided them. It's not like I need them in my life, either. However, a few weeks ago, we tried some cupcakes when visiting my daughter, and they were excellent both in terms of presentation and taste/texture... but they're in N.Y. Fast forward to the other day and on our way home from somewhere, we stopped by Camarillo Cupcake. I had it previously bookmarked, so I thought, what the heck, let's see how these are. Well, simply put, not my cup o' tea. They weren't awful, either but they were way too sweet for my liking. We bought 6, and I took very small bites of all 6, as did my husband but honestly, I was done after the first taste..... because the icing was way too sweet, and it overpowered the cupcake. I don't know if my taste buds have changed over the years, but I can't do super sugary anymore. It'll literally make me nauseous. The other thing is that a couple of the icings were way too soft and wet, almost runny (the lemon and orange creamsicle)... whereas the other icings were more firm and more to my liking. Not a fan of runny icing. The only cupcakes I might've tolerated had they been slightly less sweet were the chocolate and the chocolate hazelnut. Those two came the closest to my liking them. Unfortunately, they were the last ones I tasted, and I was already on sweetness overload. The cake part to each of the cupcakes was moist and tasty, although the gluten-free one was a bit spongy, so that one was not a texture I wanted. Also, I appreciated how neatly the icing was piped onto each cupcake. The flavors I tried were: lemon, orange creamsicle, chocolate on chocolate, chocolate hazelnut, pineapple (gluten-free), and churro. There was also vanilla, which I had no interest in, and there was one more that was vegan, but I didn't pay attention to what flavor cuz I wanted nothing to do with vegan. There were a total of 8 flavors to try, but take a look at all the flavors listed below. One has to special order if they want most of these, and unfortunately, I would have preferred a bunch of these... although, I would likely find them too sweet, too. Still, the choices are endless....
