Another hidden gem. Not much to look at when you first walk in, especially since Covid has the tables and chairs stacked as high as the corned beef. A true connoisseur will love the huge selection with great attention to all the Jewish style soups, salads and sandwiches. I'm told they have a wonderful cabbage soup, but we always get the Matzoh ball and have never been disappointed. My Corned Beef and Swiss was the perfect serving temperature and they leaned out the meat, as I requested (The food never made it beyond the parking lot). They use a tasty rye sandwich bread, which to me is the best way to go. The coleslaw was one of the best I've had. I'm not a fan of their new dill, so I give the wife my pickle. She's patient and savors these things, so she had a pickle in the parking lot and back at the hotel. We enjoy decent service at this deli and don't mind paying the prices. I wish they would wear masks during this pandemic, but, that's beyond our control and since we're not vulnerable it was no big deal. 10/20 read more

I was hired by Doordash to photograph some of Bread Basket Deli items. The place is not much to look at inside but the food is very good. As you can see by the sandwiches, their portions are large. I had the Reuben and the Jaimey's Jammer and the tuna melt. DELICIOUS!! A lot of care and TLC goes into preparing the food and Meghan, the manager is very kind and accommodating. I first began going to the Bread Basket in the 70s but hadn't been there in the last ten years. I was shocked when I went there the other day to see it has basically turned in to a fast food operation Upon entering the woman at the register gave a paper carry-out type menu to order from. I ordered a corn beef sandwich and potato salad. When see pulled out a number of different size plastic cups for potato salad I said forget. I found out of you decide to eat in there are no servers, your order is brought to you on styrofoam carry out type box. My corned beef sandwich was both dry and tough, looked like it was made up scraps. Chicken wings and strips, peach cobbler, cheesesteak aren't what one expects to find on a deli's menu, but are on the Bread Basket's If the original owners could see what the Bread Basket has become they be spinning like a dreidel in their graves. Placed an order over the phone, went to pick it up on my lunch break. Walked in the door, literally all of the employees (with the exception of the cashier) had their masks either around their chins or only covering their mouths, one lady walked from the back with no mask on at all. I inquired about her mask, I was told she didn't have one on because she was working in the back, ok, since when does that matter? The chef had a coat on cooking, he had on gloves which he used to adjust his mask and went right back to preparing the food, DISGUSTING!!! I canceled my order and walked right out. People are not taking Covid-19 serious at all, this is unacceptable, won't be back...what sense does it make for restaurants to require a mask when their employees either don't wear a mask, don't wear it properly, don't practice proper hand hygiene and food preparation...I'm going to be forced to stopped eating out, restaurants can't get right! read more

Bread basket used to be amazing. They used to have the best Cobb salad anywhere. Ordered one for lunch today. Menu online states that it has turkey, bacon, red onion, Swiss cheese, tomato, olives, and hard boiled egg. Got the salad, and the turkey looked wet and smelled questionable. Bacon was burned to a crisp. There was quite a bit of chopped Swiss cheese and red onion. No tomato, olives, or hard boiled egg. My fiancé called to complain. We paid $14.49 for my salad alone. It was missing half of the ingredients, and what was there wasn't great. The woman on the phone argued about what the menu said. And basically said sorry for your luck. Fiancé said his Reuben was good. Fries were mushy and greasy. We won't be back any time soon. read more

I grew up on the original Bread Basket at Lincoln/Greenfield and am otherwise no stranger to what a good deli should be. Once upon a time that original location was a 5-star deli. Ever since a change of ownership some years back and a subsequent change in quality of ingredients, that location became a 4-star deli. The quality of food/service at the franchised/satellite locations vary between 2.5 stars and 3.5 stars. This new location on Dequindre is no different. Which is to say it's honestly a pretty decent deli (especially for a chain) but it's certainly nothing life-changing. I am happy this place opened up as it's less than two miles from where I work and the business that used to be at this address ($5 Crunch) totally sucked. So this is a huge upgrade. I've been in here a couple of times since they opened and the service has been fast and the food good (not great); typical "Chain Basket" fare. Try their Pastrami. You'll be glad you did. And don't hesitate to ask them to grill your sandwich. A grilled turkey reuben on rye is a recipe for happiness, any way you slice it. The menu also has some cool more modern additions such as Reuben Fries, Fried Pickles, and Sliders. Interesting atypical choices for a deli and I plan on trying them out. read more

I enjoyed my United meat. I also tried my boyfriends Rueben. I didn't care for his. It was dry and not flavorful. I think both could use more sauce. The owner was nice and gave us free cake. So, I heard good things about this place and decided to give it a try the other day. I walked in and looked at there rather extensive menu and realized I was gonna have to fork over some cash in order to even try this place. The least expensive sandwich was around $8 bucks and that really just consisted of meat and cheese. The average sandwich alone was around $12 and it was between $3-$4 to make a combo. I did a small sandwich combo and paid a little over $13 dollars for a sandwich fries and a pop. Overall taste: the sandwich was good but not really worth the price when I can get more and better food at Penn Station for less money. They had what appeared to be homemade pickles which were a big let down and the fries which were fresh cooked were noticeably not hand cut but still quite tasty. Overall this was not a bad experience but not one I will partake of any time soon. To the tune of $13-$14 I could get more bang for my buck elsewhere. read more

It's hard to compete with NY Deli's, but I wouldn't count bread basket out. It's the best we have for the Midwest, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I placed an order from Grubhub for the deli about 30 minutes before closing time and Grubhub went and brought me the wrong items. I called the deli unsure what to do, since I just had oral surgery I could not eat what was brought, though it looked good. The person at the deli who answered the phone profusely apologized, as the store was closed now and she had no drivers to bring the correct order to me. She then said that they would re-make the original order and she herself would bring it to me. Not only that she added an item or two for the inconvenience. If more people that were in the industry ran their place like this (to make up for an error, and one not done on their part), the industry would be a much better place.
