This is my $13 grilled cheese combo - where the french fry is thicker than the sandwich. Buyer beware!

Take a gander at my $13 grilled cheese combo meal, and understand. Plus, the place closes at 9, I arrived before 8, and the chairs were already on tables. Meal was packed to go and I was shuffled off. Weird place.

Another hidden gem. Not much to look at when you first walk in, especially since Covid has the tables and chairs stacked as high as the corned beef. A true connoisseur will love the huge selection with great attention to all the Jewish style soups, salads and sandwiches. I'm told they have a wonderful cabbage soup, but we always get the Matzoh ball and have never been disappointed. My Corned Beef and Swiss was the perfect serving temperature and they leaned out the meat, as I requested (The food never made it beyond the parking lot). They use a tasty rye sandwich bread, which to me is the best way to go. The coleslaw was one of the best I've had. I'm not a fan of their new dill, so I give the wife my pickle. She's patient and savors these things, so she had a pickle in the parking lot and back at the hotel. We enjoy decent service at this deli and don't mind paying the prices. I wish they would wear masks during this pandemic, but, that's beyond our control and since we're not vulnerable it was no big deal. 10/20

I was hired by Doordash to photograph some of Bread Basket Deli items. The place is not much to look at inside but the food is very good. As you can see by the sandwiches, their portions are large. I had the Reuben and the Jaimey's Jammer and the tuna melt. DELICIOUS!! A lot of care and TLC goes into preparing the food and Meghan, the manager is very kind and accommodating. BRING YOUR APPETITE!!

This place is usually hit or miss, but when it's hit it's super good. We're at $28 for a small plain corned beef and 17 1/2 on an onion roll so we won't be taking our chances anymore. Both of our sandwiches were all chewy, fatty pieces. My husband picked through his. I had the smaller one and it was inedible

Definitely not the same as the oakpark original. No soup the day I was there. Sandwiches are good and plentiful for the prices.

They have an extensive menu to include vegetarian options which was nice to see. They also have many local brands to include chips, sodas, and other small local business products (caramelized nuts, baked goods, etc.)! On the topic of local businesses, they also had a board which allowed local owners to post business cards and event alerts, fantastic for drawing the community together. Now, I ordered a Reuben as a lover of corned beef and sauerkraut. It was delicious and sizeable, a fair portion size for the money as well. The chips were also delicious having gone for the salt, pepper, and onion variety. A solid crunch and bursting with flavor. Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. Overall, Oak House Deli is solid and delicious and I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area!

Remember: Bring cash! Used a card, and the cashier had to type it in manually (it was nice of them to do that). Now for the food - We got a few meats--turkey pastrami, corned beef and a "wildcard" (I let the staff pick, and whatever it was it was good). We also got the special spices etc. I do prefer a more of an Italian sandwich on a hard roll, so I'm not sure the soft onion roll is for me. If you like a cold sandwich un-toasted and generally basic with a bit of a twist, you will love this! My husband and I enjoyed the sandwich (split it, and they put mayo on half at my request). It's a charming spot, quality food and I'm glad we tried it. Skip the spicy potato salad. It was bland, sadly.

I had the 2 meats (turkey and turkey pastrami) with everything sans pickles plus love spice on an onion roll. I'm beyond satisfied and it was divine! The price was reasonable for a deli sandwich at $10 before tax and 4% card fee. I usually go for corned beef at the deli, but this was a leaner yet equally tasty option in an attempt to be more health conscious. Needless to say, I'll be back! Thanks, ladies!

Unfortunately the employees said no, we aren't participating in that and other customers mention this and we won't honor the discount. I showed them the FB announcement where their Deli was clearly listed and they still said No. ??? This made me frustrated. My total for a wrap, cauliflower bites, and a drink was $22. No discount. False advertising and unpleasant customer service. I posted the Facebook announcement of their restaurant listed below in my pictures. On the positive side, the deli is very clean and food was delicious. Their menu is extensive with many choices of wraps, salads, sandwiches and soup. The cream of broccoli was a nice accompaniment to the sandwich but was kind of salty and a bit on the starchy side. Overall - definitely a good place for a deli sandwich just a little on the pricey side - think Zingermans without the friendly service....

And the primary reason was their ah-mazing banh mi sandwiches. IMHO, the best in the entire city!!! The majority of the square footage at New Saigon Market is dedicated to the grocery portion of the business. There are aisles of Asian goods such as sauces, instant noodles, a refrigerated section of produce, and a freezer case of all types of dumplings, meats, etc. There was also a fun display of figurines near the window, including a Pikachu, which I purchased for my niece. Using both the Yelp app and recommendations from locals, they told me this place serves up legit and surprisingly, bargain priced Viet sammiches. When you walk in, the kitchen portion is near the registers. After perusing the menu, I ordered a number one combo and a chicken, since the roasted pork was sold out (boo!). And I was SHOCKED that in 2024, you can still find a banh mi for $5. In the DC area, you can't find one priced for less than $8.00!!! Tip: you can order your banh mi's either toasted or untoasted. Get the toasted. After approximately 5 minutes a friendly worker came out and presented the number one banh mi, in a foil wrapper. My chicken was not toasted so it was in a plastic bag. I couldn't wait, so I unwrapped the number one combo and literally DEVOURED it in the parking lot. The bread (which they make on premises) was toasty outside, yet had a flaky and soft interior. And while these aren't the biggest sandwiches, there was plenty of meat filling and pickled veggies, with just the right amount of pate smeared. Again, did I mention (as of this review) that it was only $5? They have a special menu on the weekends, so I also stopped by get some Bánh Bò Nướng (Vietnamese honeycomb green cake), Goi Cuong (summer rolls) and the Xôi Mặn (sticky rice with Viet ham and sausage). Everything was delicious and I walked out for about $20; which again, this would have been at least $10-$15 more in the DC area. If I lived here, I'd be at New Saigon Market several times a week. It's a true hidden local gem. Five well deserved stars!
