This is my $13 grilled cheese combo - where the french fry is thicker than the sandwich. Buyer beware!

Take a gander at my $13 grilled cheese combo meal, and understand. Plus, the place closes at 9, I arrived before 8, and the chairs were already on tables. Meal was packed to go and I was shuffled off. Weird place.

I was hired by Doordash to photograph some of Bread Basket Deli items. The place is not much to look at inside but the food is very good. As you can see by the sandwiches, their portions are large. I had the Reuben and the Jaimey's Jammer and the tuna melt. DELICIOUS!! A lot of care and TLC goes into preparing the food and Meghan, the manager is very kind and accommodating. BRING YOUR APPETITE!!

This place is usually hit or miss, but when it's hit it's super good. We're at $28 for a small plain corned beef and 17 1/2 on an onion roll so we won't be taking our chances anymore. Both of our sandwiches were all chewy, fatty pieces. My husband picked through his. I had the smaller one and it was inedible

Definitely not the same as the oakpark original. No soup the day I was there. Sandwiches are good and plentiful for the prices.

They have an extensive menu to include vegetarian options which was nice to see. They also have many local brands to include chips, sodas, and other small local business products (caramelized nuts, baked goods, etc.)! On the topic of local businesses, they also had a board which allowed local owners to post business cards and event alerts, fantastic for drawing the community together. Now, I ordered a Reuben as a lover of corned beef and sauerkraut. It was delicious and sizeable, a fair portion size for the money as well. The chips were also delicious having gone for the salt, pepper, and onion variety. A solid crunch and bursting with flavor. Among the positives I have two negatives, both of which are not adequate enough to lower their star ranking. Firstly, it took around 20-25 minutes to get our food after ordering. I rarely hold timing against a restaurant as having worked in food, I know lunch rush exists and things happen. To mitigate this (for those in the area) I believe they have an online ordering system, which I would recommend utilizing! Secondly, they do not have indoor seating, so it is a very grab and go type establishment. This is counteracted by the multitude of benches around Royal Oak, though it would be nice to have some amount of seating, especially for those with accessibility needs and those waiting on their food. Overall, Oak House Deli is solid and delicious and I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area!

First of all the burger week place should have had open/close times listed on the app. Second, it's sliced deli meat... you can't slice up some lunch meat a few minutes before 11am. That's crazy. Edit: came back next day and actually HAD the sandwich I came for. Sandwich was VERY good. A little too much sauce but otherwise great. Flavor was good. Customer service still wasn't the best. Took 30 minutes for a sandwich. But I did get a free pickle.

The ambiance is awesome and you always see so many friendly faces. My favorite feeling is introducing someone new to these sandwiches and watching others in the market learn what deli food has to offer. If I was on death row, i'd have ernie's as my last meal. Remember: Bring cash! Used a card, and the cashier had to type it in manually (it was nice of them to do that). Now for the food - We got a few meats--turkey pastrami, corned beef and a "wildcard" (I let the staff pick, and whatever it was it was good). We also got the special spices etc. I do prefer a more of an Italian sandwich on a hard roll, so I'm not sure the soft onion roll is for me. If you like a cold sandwich un-toasted and generally basic with a bit of a twist, you will love this! My husband and I enjoyed the sandwich (split it, and they put mayo on half at my request). It's a charming spot, quality food and I'm glad we tried it. Skip the spicy potato salad. It was bland, sadly.

Unfortunately the employees said no, we aren't participating in that and other customers mention this and we won't honor the discount. I showed them the FB announcement where their Deli was clearly listed and they still said No. ??? This made me frustrated. My total for a wrap, cauliflower bites, and a drink was $22. No discount. False advertising and unpleasant customer service. I posted the Facebook announcement of their restaurant listed below in my pictures. On the positive side, the deli is very clean and food was delicious. Their menu is extensive with many choices of wraps, salads, sandwiches and soup. I appreciate you can customize your wrap with a gluten-free wrap and not many delis in the area have that option.

I very much enjoyed the sandwich but the value at $17 is a little much - the height was perfect but felt the overall size was a bit lacking. Also - depending on your preference, I would probably order extra coleslaw if I ordered this sandwich again, the ratio of beef to slaw was a bit lacking. The cream of broccoli was a nice accompaniment to the sandwich but was kind of salty and a bit on the starchy side. Overall - definitely a good place for a deli sandwich just a little on the pricey side - think Zingermans without the friendly service....

And the primary reason was their ah-mazing banh mi sandwiches. IMHO, the best in the entire city!!! The majority of the square footage at New Saigon Market is dedicated to the grocery portion of the business. There are aisles of Asian goods such as sauces, instant noodles, a refrigerated section of produce, and a freezer case of all types of dumplings, meats, etc. There was also a fun display of figurines near the window, including a Pikachu, which I purchased for my niece. Using both the Yelp app and recommendations from locals, they told me this place serves up legit and surprisingly, bargain priced Viet sammiches. When you walk in, the kitchen portion is near the registers. After perusing the menu, I ordered a number one combo and a chicken, since the roasted pork was sold out (boo!). And I was SHOCKED that in 2024, you can still find a banh mi for $5. In the DC area, you can't find one priced for less than $8.00!!! Tip: you can order your banh mi's either toasted or untoasted. Get the toasted. After approximately 5 minutes a friendly worker came out and presented the number one banh mi, in a foil wrapper. My chicken was not toasted so it was in a plastic bag. I couldn't wait, so I unwrapped the number one combo and literally DEVOURED it in the parking lot. The bread (which they make on premises) was toasty outside, yet had a flaky and soft interior. And while these aren't the biggest sandwiches, there was plenty of meat filling and pickled veggies, with just the right amount of pate smeared. Again, did I mention (as of this review) that it was only $5? They have a special menu on the weekends, so I also stopped by get some Bánh Bò Nướng (Vietnamese honeycomb green cake), Goi Cuong (summer rolls) and the Xôi Mặn (sticky rice with Viet ham and sausage). Everything was delicious and I walked out for about $20; which again, this would have been at least $10-$15 more in the DC area. If I lived here, I'd be at New Saigon Market several times a week. It's a true hidden local gem. Five well deserved stars!
