10 out of 10 recommend! This place has the best pastries and bread in all of Roanoke! If you're thinking about trying it, do it! You will not be disappointed! Best almond croissant I've ever had. I am obsessed with the sour dough. They usually have daily specials but you need to get there early (before 10am) to try one before they sell out, especially on the weekend. The have a refurbished old cigarette vending machine in the front, ask the front desk for a token to get a piece of art from it! Tokens are $5 and well worth it and a fun activity! They stock the machine with little pieces of art work from local / regional artists.

Food was really good! We got the turkey pesto sandwich and the egg cocotte. We did end up waiting almost 30mins for our food and had to ask the server to check on it but was worth the wait!

best coffee, pastries, and service in town! the art vending machine is also super cool.

Serving breakfast and brunch, this trendy bakery in the heart of downtown Roanoke has everything you would expect - lots of coffee, lots things labeled 'milk' because they are white fluids, and complex confectionaries that are oh so tasty. Everything was easy clean and fast. I do kind of wish they had a better selection of non-coffee beverages, but that's just me.

Understated bakery with large seating area and cafe. Simple coffee and teas offered alongside artisan baked goods. Friendly and quick service. Clean bathrooms. You might have to wait in a small line to pay. Bread items and cookies are always good, go early as they often sell out of their most sought after items. These items are delicious but they do cost. 4 items runs about $20 and a small box of Christmas cookies sells for $10.50.

This bakery is on a downtown side street that is one way and has a short parking limit, so it is reasonably well suited for a quick stop. The spread they had out featured more non-vegetarian items than most bakeries, but on the sweeter side I still did not have any problem finding something. I landed an impressive-looking if messy croissant with cream and almonds which was decadent and filling. I did not have need of a loaf but they have some good varieties that I would consider coming back for.

Came by on a Wednesday and Thursday and there was a short line. We tried several of their treats such as the chocolate croissant, strawberry bostock, and banana pudding pastry. Everything was so delicious! The pastries they have available do change every so often. The staff were also super nice and friendly. There are also several tables for you to sit down and enjoy!

I'm new to the area so I was really excited to find a bakery with great bread and food. There is just something so much better about French Toast from a place that's makes the bread. It was Absolutely delicious. I was surprised to see it was 3 slices. Hardly needed the syrup. We were all really happy with our choices for brunch. And we shared some good cookies as well. Everyone behind the counter was really friendly. And we loved finding an Art-o-mat machine. I'll be back for bread to take home and that French Toast.

Friendly service, delicious pastries and coffee. We went on a Saturday morning. At first it was crowded and there was no space for my group of 5 but then one of the workers slid open these panels to reveal a larger back room with more tables and seating so we were able to get a booth for our group. They gave us a table number and brought our plates of food to our table but for drinks they call out your number and you pick it up at the counter. Lots of families with kids and young people getting delicious morning bite. Only critique is the French press coffee was weak.

    Chocolate croissant, and éclair

Food 8 + ambiance 4 + value 8 + service 4 = overall 6.9 / 10 (good) Look, the "Chorizo & Eggs Cocette" ($10.00) was truly delicious from top to bottom. Perfectly poached eggs, chorizo you think is too spicy, but then all the broth for dipping with delicious baguette, to take the edge off. I thought it would be the pastries that would be this place on my map. But it was the chorizo breakfast dish. Éclair ($4.15) was cold from the fridge (kind of par for the course in my éclair experiences in recent years) but decent. Not too soggy. The chocolate croissant ($3.85) was billowy and beautiful, nice flavors and acceptably flaky. It's a sky-high ceiling, cacophonous kind of cave space with hard surfaces. Farmhouse meets kinda Parisian.

The inside is gorgeous, lots of pretty decor and posters, plants, etc, and it's usually pretty full because of how great the atmosphere is. They also showcase other vendors/local artists inside, and occasionally will have evenings dedicated to small activities and sponsor social events. I love this place, and can absolutely recommend it. Free WiFi so customers can drop by and do some work as they drink a cup of coffee. While I was there, a customer did just that. The owner gave me a warm and friendly welcome and explained all the food items they had for breakfast and lunch. They have freshly baked New York Bagels shippedfrom New York daily. To drink I ordered a medium Caffè Mocha. To eat I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich with a Cloverdale Plain Bagel, with Bacon, Egg, and Cheese. And finish with something sweet, a Cherry Danish. The Mocha was amazingly good The Bagel was very large and fresh; crunchy on the outside and soft and moist ingredients the inside with a nice size portion of Bacon, Egg, and Cheese. I spent some time there and was able to meet one of the employees who happened to arrive during this time. I also met a nice older couple who enjoy eating at different restaurants and I recommended them Crooked Shoreline Steak and Seafood from Daleville, which I just finished eating there and few days before, and was the first to review this restaurant for Yelp. They loved the oral recap of my review and promised they would go that same event to dine there. They in turn recommended me Nakhon Thai Cuisine which I will be doing there and reviewing for Yelp next Tuesday. Amazingly, what I wrote about at the beginning of this review did take place during the time I was there. God has blessed this Coffee House in a very special way, and it was providing more than just food and drinks for the body, but also for the soul. I highly recommend this Coffee House to all reading this review and viewing the photographs taken for it. A few years ago I used to frequent this Coffee Shop often and enjoy drinking my Caffè Mochas…read more together with some hot breakfast sandwiches there. As a matter of fact my main Yelp profile picture was taken there in that Coffee Shop. But during covid they put a hold on the hot breakfasts and only served hot coffee, tea, muffins, danishes, and cinnamon rolls. So I decided to return to the place to see how it was doing, see what had changed, have a cup of coffee and breakfast there, and write a review. I arrived early in the morning at around 7:00am, the time the Downtown Coffee Shop opens. A young man behind the counter greeted me and asked me if I knew what I wanted to order as soon as I arrived. I asked him if they now had hot breakfasts again like in the time before covid. But he told me that in this store in particular they had discontinued the hot breakfasts. So I ordered a Caffè Mocha and a cinnamon roll. As I waited for the coffee to be made and served I walked around the store and found that the area for community announcements and for people to leave their business cards was still there as well as some of the complimentary magazines, but not all they use to have. I also found that the glass built into the wall display case they used to have full of t-shirts, coffee mugs and tumblers was completely empty, to the point of looking as it had been abandoned. Also, the wall where they used to exhibit for sale artworks of artists members of our community no longer was full. At this time my Coffee and cinnamon rolls were ready, so I took them from the counter. Heated the cinnamon roll in the microwave and had my breakfast. The coffee was as good as always and the cinnamon roll was fine. Later I asked the barista about what I earlier had found and he just confirmed the fact and told me that in the other of their stores they did have everything that was missing in this store, which to me now looked like one of those abandoned old Malls after a new one just opened in town. I wondered and asked myself: How could a local chain such as Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea have abandoned their Downtown Roanoke store in this way? I know there is competition, but how can it compete with nothing creative to do so. This store is very significant to the Downtown area, to the Roanoke community, and to the tourist that frequent the area. So rather than give it a 3 rating, I will give it a 4, and give you the benefit of the doubt, with the hope that after the Management of the Mill Mountain Coffee Shop chain reads my review they put their act together and do what is needed to bring the Star to this Mill Mountain Coffee Shop again. For the purpose of my reviews is not to point out the negative, but to give constructive criticism so that both the store can improve and the community can benefit by having a quality place in which to enjoy a quality product in a relaxing and beautiful environment. A business should not run just to survive but to grow so that both the community and the owners profit from it. The famous Q2. Quality will bring Quantity. Come on, I believe in you. Let's do what is needed so next time not only will you have earned a 5 Star review in paper but also in the eyes of the community of the great Star City of Roanoke in the Commonwealth of Virginia!

I arrived to have breakfast on an early morning of the most wonderful time of the year and after having won the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award a week earlier, was looking forward to reviewing this very unique Coffee Shop, Eatery, and more. First of all I was extremely impressed with the interior design of the Coffee Shop. It is by far the most beautifully designed Coffee Shop that I have evered visited. The attention to detail was evident even before one entered the place and even more after. It was evident in the design and quality materials used to create and house this Coffee Shop and more. So I never thought anything about it, and never had an reason to. But today I said to myself, I have to take the road less traveled and go inside. And when I did, I discovered the best kept secret of Downtown Roanoke. A bakery that brought me back to years ago, when I visited Paris, France. With beautiful original hardwood floors and exposed red brick walls, high ceilings, and wonderful lighting treatment, the restaurant projected a warm and cozy feeling with the right ambiance to relax and have a cup of homemade coffee accompanied by a piece of freshly baked bread, bagel, or danish; or even better, the creative discovery of the Sweet & Spicy Bacon with Caramelized Onion Scrambled Egg Pizza. Which I definitely ended up ordering and enjoying with a large cup of Cafe Mocha, which was only 25 cents more than the small cup. And was one of the best Mochas that I have ever had in any coffee shop, yet along in any bakery. The solid white with tones of black marble tables and black chairs, contributed to make the ambiance of the bakery the right place in which to enjoy a breakfast none other than those I once enjoyed in Paris, France. As I enjoyed my breakfast dining experience, steady customers came in to have breakfast as well, and many others to order takeout. One even came to order a beautiful made cake which they also pride themselves of having, as well as one of my favorites, the Peanut Butter Pie. And last but not least was the young lady server behind the counter. She warmly greeted me when I arrived and answered all my questions about this quaint local business, and many of its products, which were many. And who prepared the amazing Cafe Mocha. And brought it to the table of my choice, together with the amazingly delicious, first time discovered, scrambled egg pizza. I also had an "Asiago Bagel" with Cream Cheese and a Cherry Cheese Croissant. The other employees and one that I think could have been the owner, I was able to greet with my eyes and a smile, seemed so friendly and also contributed to make me feel at home. I highly recommend this cozy Bakery Cafe who also has wraps, hot paninis, sandwiches, soups, and salads on its menu to enjoy for lunch. What an extraordinary dining experience! I will never again walk by an unknown food establishment without stopping by and walking in. For it is those who take the road less traveled who discover and enjoy the best in life.
