Fantastic food and great environment! Every time we are in town we stop by for a croissant!!

First time at this location. The downtown location closed and they consolidated. As their name implies they do a lot with bread. So lot of options with bakery items during my weekend visit. They have a strong brunch menu and also a fun coffee menu. Ordering is at the counter and was extremely friendly and helpful. The dining atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The area was clean. They also have outdoor dining. My party of three all ordered different items from chocolate chip packed, oh my that cake is huge! Scrambled eggs, quiche and I had an omelette. I was not in love with my omelette unfortunately. It lacked flavor. My pancake latte was amazing! 3.5, rounding up. I will be back. read more

What a cozy family style feeling when you walk into this bistro. The pastry case was loaded with beautiful cakes & macarons. I chose the mango mousse cake - WOW it's light & airy & refreshing , the flavors & textures all compliment each other. The young gentleman at the counter was friendly and ready to serve. I also picked up two chocolate ganache macarons for my husband to try later on. I tried their strawberry & cream iced latte - it was just okay - I didn't get much vanilla taste in my latte. We ordered breakfast and the toast I received was so dry. You could tell that the bread using to make toast was very old. I asked to sample the coffee because Red Rooster coffee it usually very bad. The coffee was old and cold. I heard the waitress ask about making a new pot and she was told to heat it up in the microwave. I am not paying $2.50 or more for that. The quality of the food here has declined so much. It is a shame because the food in the past was very good. read more

I've already have had the opportunity of dining in and reviewing the Our Daily Bread & Bistro at S Jefferson Street in Roanoke for lunch, and the Our Daily Bread in Vinton for breakfast. Today my friend and I had just had an early dinner at another restaurant in the area and were looking for a nice place near by to go for dessert. So I asked him to search for one in Google and he happen to run across this Our Daily Bread on Brambleton Ave in Cave Spring, Roanoke, just next to Brambleton Imports, which I had visited and reviewed not so long ago. Housed in a small and cozy little house with low ceilings and french windows, this place has been totally renovated to look like a French countryside-inspired Bakery and Bistro, yet at the same time in a very clean and modern looking environment, that puts you at ease from the time you walk in. As you walk in the first thing you see is a small foyer with a large blackboard with color chalk Welcome sign. Then as you immediately go in through another door, you find yourself in a cozy environment with hardwood floors and a low wall with glass windows division. On the left are the pastries display cases with some of the most amazing looking pastries that I have ever seen. On the other side of this wall is their dining room with marble tables and simply yet very comfortable chairs. That room is completely surrounded by French style windows that allow the natural light to come in and brighten up the place. The lighting of the display cases does a great job of highlighting each pastry at their best. Each pastry area is labeled with its name and price. To some they might seem expensive, but to others, they are all priceless, and their relatively high price just seem to accentuate the high quality of culinary craftsmanship put into each individual pastry creating sweet masterpieces, delightful to the eyes and amazingly delicious to one's taste buds. One orders at the counter and then moves on to the end of the counter where the cashier station is located and pays. Then we found a table to our pleasing and went and sat down. The employees of the place, a friendly young lady who took our order, the cashier whom we paid to, and the other young lady who brought the desserts to our table, provided extraordinary customer service to the point of making us feel welcomed in a comfortable environment. It was not easy choosing a dessert, with so many sweet sensations inside the display cases, but we both ended up ordering Napoleons. When a friendly young lady brought the desserts to our table, they even looked more large and delicious than from inside the display cases. And they tastef amazingly good. I loved the environment, the dessert, and the service, and highly recommend the place as well as am looking forward to returning in the very near future. read more

If you are expecting this location to be anything close to the one in Blacksburg, do not go. The cashier was very rude when I asked about offerings similar to the Blacksburg location. I ordered a turkey and Brie sandwich which was minimal shredded turkey, 2 small thin pieces of Brie, and a piece of lettuce. I was so excited that there was an ODB by my new house in Roanoke after frequenting the one in Blacksburg for the last few years. If you want ODB go to Blacksburg do not go to this one. read more

We did some research and decided to stop in after spending a long weekend in the Roanoke area. We arrived about 10:30am on a Monday morning in early October. Their parking lot makes it easy to find a space and we walked in. We realized all orders are taken at the counter after speaking to one of the young ladies working. We looked at their baked goods and grabbed menus. We decided to take a seat at one of the tables and look over the menu. We were surprised to see just how many items were on the menu including traditional breakfast items as well as Hispanic offerings as well. We both decided to order one of the Hispanic breakfast dishes. My wife chose the Spicy Mexican Scramble (Two eggs scrambled, topped with tomatillo salsa, avocado, and goat cheese served with garlic roasted potatoes). I chose the Carnitas Omelet (House-made traditional Mexican carnitas made from slow roasted pork butt folded into a fluffy three egg omelet, topped with tomatillo salsa and goat cheese). I chose to have the tomatillo salsa on the side and asked if instead of goat cheese I could substitute Swiss cheese. The young lady who took our order said that wasn't a problem. I also chose a bagel and cream cheese instead of toast. My wife also ordered one of their gluten free mixed berry scones. The young ladies working were friendly and helpful but we noticed they appeared to have a lot of free time on their hands, perhaps because they do not provide table service. We witnessed them playing on their phones and talking when in our opinion they could have been helping to clear tables, deliver food to the table, prepping supplies, wiping tables, etc. It didn't feel right when customers are also being prompted to leave a generous tip. Our name was called and we proceeded to the counter to pick up our breakfast. Everything looked delicious and after a few pictures we dug in. Everything tasted just as delicious as it looked and we were impressed with our meals. My wife also really enjoyed the gluten free mixed berry scone. Overall, the food was yummy, breakfast prices were higher than other places we experienced during our weekend in Roanoke, and it would be nice to have table service. Like others who were seated, we cleared our own table. It's a bit frustrating when businesses prompt for a sizable tip and beyond taking our order at the counter we did all the other functions of dining in ourselves, this is the reason for the 3 star review. read more

This is quickly becoming our weekly breakfast spot. For a small bistro we never have difficulty finding a table. The staff is friendly and the food comes out quick. Eggs are always cooked to perfection. Bakery treats are wonderful and so is the coffee. Quite affordable for breakfast. Would recommend to anyone passing through. read more

This place has great bread and pastries! I especially like the Lavender Chai Latte! The Almond croissants are really something remarkable. I love almond flavored pastries and desserts. I have had a hard time finding an almond flavored dessert to satisfy my pallet but this place did the job. The service leaves nothing to complain about but nothing to get excited about. You form a line when you enter the building, order and pay before you are seated. It's a bit loud inside, I should there is outdoor seating, but if you like to ease drop you'll love sitting inside! The acoustics make it easy to hear everyone conversation no matter where they are sitting. I would not recommend the Duck Confit if you are hungry, the serving is more like confetti. Aside from the portion disappointment the Duck Confit was good. I've had 4 meals here and that is the only slightly negative thing I have to say. I will make it a point to come here again the next time I am in Roanoke! read more

Found this bakery while out of town and I was glad for it. They were rather busy but the line moved quickly and we were able to get a good table. The special coffee drink I got wasn't especially wonderful but it was better than just plain coffee. The chocolate milk was good though. The croissant wasn't the best croissant as it lacked the laminated layers you would expect but it was still tasty. Our breakfast plates were great. You have to order your food & pay at the counter you have to pour your own coffee. You are expected to clean off your plates, put dirty dishes in bid and put trash in the bid. And asked to leave a tip. We only saw the server when she brought our food. The food was mediocre at best. This is a one and done for us. read more

We enjoyed breakfast here three days in a row with our daughter's family while visiting Roanoke. The food was uniformly very good. Young and old enjoyed it - standouts were the hash browns -crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle, and the duck confit Benedict special. But really the standout was the service. With a challenging group including a volatile six year old, the service was unflagging and excellent. The manager was personally very helpful and made the experience special. read more

Great breakfast and bakery! You order first then seat yourself and food is brought to your table. Huge selection of breakfast dishes and some unique specials. Service was very efficient and friendly. You walk in to the full pastry display case with some gorgeous looking macarons and cakes. Menus are on display for you to look through before ordering and paying at the register then take a number to your table. There's indoor and outdoor seating, inside isn't too crowded and there's plenty of space. The outside I've read is dog friendly but it was already getting pretty warm this morning so we opted to stay inside. While they were definitely busy it wasn't super crowded or with a long wait (came in around 10:30a on a Sunday) and it wasn't difficult to have a conversation. I ordered the smoked salmon hash which is eggs Benedict served on top of smoked salmon (lox) on very crispy hash browns with capers and red onions. The eggs were poached perfectly with nice oozing yolk. The ratio was perfectly balanced for every bite of salmon and hash brown. Hash browns were nice and crunchy and delicious. The portion was just enough to be satisfied without being too full. My friend ordered the Belgian waffle combo (sorry no pics). The waffles were dusted perfectly with powdered sugar, eggs scrambled perfectly and sausage cooked well. We got fresh cold pressed orange juice which was super delicious and sweet. Both our dishes joined the clean plate club. Definitely recommend for breakfast and probably brunch. It's about 10 min from my house so we'll be back! read more

Well after spending about $50 for 2 breakfast and not pleased with the quiche that was supposed to have a meat and asparagus in it and it was almost absent I will say I will go elsewhere. I questioned it to the staff which they agreed didn't look right but the cook did not want to replace. I struggled to eat it because it was mostly egg and cheese, had my husband eat it and he didn't care for it either. The potatoes were fair, nothing to write home about. My husband's breakfast was the new Reuben omelet which he states would not get again. The toast was good. The berry latte was very good. Waitress staff were very nice but not coming back soon because there are better places in town. read more

Today I got the seasonal rose chai latte & the creme brûlée. The rose chai was super subtle on the rose and a solid spices combination for the chai. I would definitely get this drink again and recommend it to others! Okay now creme brûlée is hands down my favorite dessert of all time. I thought the custard inside was lovely. Good consistency not too thing not too thick. The top looks deceiving because it's supposed to be that Caramelized sugar but the caramelization hard top is very small. They do this probably start of day instead of as you order which may cause it to soften in addition to it just not having the right about to sugar to harden. Overall I would still get this again and likely will. There's not many places in Roanoke that offer a good creme brûlée so if you're a fan like me - give this a shot! read more

Maybe the economy is starting to affect their food, but ODB seems to be cutting corners lately (I'm speaking only of the Brambleton location, as I've never been to any other). The beef tips/blue cheese salad I ordered recently was on the small side, the bleu cheese crumbles were so tiny and scant that I almost missed them, the beef tips were tough, and even their usually delicious orange tarragon salad dressing was more orange than tarragon. I doubt I will revisit soon. read more

Our Daily Bread is truly a hidden gem in Roanoke. Delicious desserts? Check. Large breakfast menu? Check Opens early enough for night shifters and early risers? Check again. While I first discovered Our Daily Bread because it was one of very few places which could accommodate me for breakfast at 6:30 am, their food and friendly service has kept me coming back again and again. Our Daily Bread offers a menu with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items as well as a rotating menu of seasonal specials. They get bonus points from me for having eggs benendict, not only the classic but also twists such as crab cake, smoked salmon, caprese, pork belly, and more. I'd also be remiss if I didn't metion their desserts. While I haven't had many myself, they look absolutely phenomenal and keep saying I'll treat myself "next time." Overall, I'd recommend Our Daily Bread to anyone who likes breakfast or dessert, especially if looking for an early-morning option. read more

You ever love a place so much you find it hard to put it into words when reviewing?! Welp, that's me & Our Daily Bread. Visiting from out of town, researching breakfast places in the area, ODB's menu made us drool-they quickly became a must-eat & when we woke up in the morning I was hangry driving over, eager to order! Selecting menu items was super difficult, as not only their base menu promoted delicious eats, but they had SO MANY new delicious specials being offered that weekend only! I finally selected a mango-pineapple pork benedict, requesting a waffle instead of a croissant (small reasonable upcharge) & my hubby the duck benedict on a croissant. The food was beyond phenomenal. The waffle....worth every penny! Warm, moist, dense, light, butter, all in one. The sauce of the mango-pineapple chutney was lick-the-plate tasty-sweet & spicy, with bold bold seasoning. The pork was melt-in-your-mouth moist, with an outside char. The duck, perfectly cooked, well shredded. Both benedicts had amazing poached eggs, with the most unique tasting hollandaise. Creamy, seasoned, w. a tangy quality, it was a homemade breakfast mouth happiness eat! Their coffee was self-serve; & the allowed me to have a mini flavor shot from their latte selections to spice up my coffee The staff were super friendly, even with the minimal contact social distancing, they did a great job giving you a warm, homey feeling, welcoming us in. The experience was so amazing, we spent all day afterwards talking about eating there the next day! The next day, we ordered from the base menu, trying their Irish Omelet & the Prosciutto Asparagus Benedict (again w.a waffle instead of a croissant). Two additional phenomenal meals. The Benedict was PACKED & I mean PACKED with prosciutto; fresh asparagus, and the same amazing hollandaise. It was the type of meal you take a bit, close your eyes, say yum, and let the taste savor in your mouth. The omelet was packed with freshly shaved corn beef, crispy fried potatoes, and loads of cheese. An added bonus to all this deliciousness & friendliness..their menu prices are crazy cheap! Coming from the Baltimore, MD area, dishes like these would be double to triple the price & honestly, I would pay it for this food! We stopped in for breakfast and it's an order before sitting type of place. They have a huge dessert case with pastries, muffins, and cookies and breads. Fresh made espresso's and fresh squeezed OJ. Super fast and friendly people and the inside is quite small so get there early or expect to wait for a table! We had roasted veggie omelette, and eggs Benedict and hash browns and one dessert. They have some nice pastries and desserts. Went for breakfast, the process for dining in is a little odd. Everything is ordered and paid for, the. Brought out, though not really table service. The drinks are self service, though they will plop a cup of ice on the counter while you pay. The pastries are nicely baked, with some unique to this area treats like almond cookies and macrons that are baked well. The French toast is two thick slices of a brioche bread fully soaked in egg batter. The whipped cream had frozen blueberries and strawberries, that did not add much to it. The pancakes are almost plate size and nice flavor. Both come highly recommended and a little bit goes a long way, arrive hungry. The parking was easy during the week and restrooms clean. For so long this Roanoke mainstay has been cranking out fabulous European-style pastries and omelets. But.....something has changed. The old kitchen staff is gone, and the counter staff is surly. Waited over 25 minutes for omelet and toast, which came out cold after I checked on our order (and was dismissed with a "they're cooking it." ) We had a lovely cold $47 breakfast. Super glad we decided on Our Daily Bread for our brunch. The restaurant is small but they have both indoor and outdoor seating. When you walk in there is a large case of tempting pastries that calls to you as you walk up to the ordering register. They have a large menu of great sound food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also have tons of beverage options for you including different flavors of espresso. We were very happy with the food, the taste was good and the ingredients seemed to be a high quality. read more

Mint chocolate macaron: expected a bit more of a crisp in the shell, but it was nice and chewy. 3.5/5 Chocolate chip scone: a good, hearty texture in this sweet scone. Much closer to the 'classic' scones I used to than some others, but those classic scones are still my all-time favorite. 4/5 Granola with dried fruit: reasonably priced and "made from scratch," this granola has a good crunch and a subtle cinnamon flavour, and tastes great with cold milk. 5/5 Tomato basil soup and veggie lentil soup: wish they were served hot, not barely warm, but the flavour is there. 4/5 Southwest omelette with Portuguese bread: no better or worse than expected. - - Pumpkin and potato soup: barely a hint of pumpkin or potato. I feel this really should be called cream soup, instead. Had to take this back to the kitchen. 2/5 Serving a wrong order: I ordered a soup (veggie lentil soup) and salad ("house salad") combo ($8.00), but what I got was a cup of soup and a small side salad that altogether, would fittingly accompany a main meal. A staff member came to take the plates away when I told her about my experience and that I felt ripped off. Her graceful and practical handling of my concern helped me learn that I was served a wrong order. All in all the highlight of the visit was the baked goods, and as much as I like to support local businesses, I'm in no rush to revisit based on today's experience. read more

Nom nom nom - the quiche - omg my life will never be the same! OK - so - this initial visit was not without issues - since clearly my dad and I are first-timers had NO idea what we were doing. But hey, next time we'll know. You order at the counter and snag a table where you can - which doesn't appear to be a huge problem since it's pretty fast turnover. There are food runners/servers but really you are on your own after you order. I ordered a seasonal coffee drink, the gluten-free chocolate chip pumpkin muffin, a quiche of the day (spinach and cheese) and the yogurt and berries. So they were out of the two muffins I wanted originally, they were out of granola for the yogurt, and they didn't add honey to it. The kitchen did toast some oatmeal to try to substitute the granola shortage in my yogurt and it was pretty good - but it was VERY light on fresh berries though I had asked for extra - and was lacking the honey promised. I love a good parfait and this was not it. So I was disappointed. The gluten-free chocolate chip pumpkin muffin was AMAZING. I was a bit worried at first because when I took the knife and cut into it the top was pretty hard - but the muffin was delicious with large chocolate chips and a really great flavor. I loved it and ate every single bite. The spinach quiche was the best quiche I have ever had. It was a generous serving for about $5 and was warm, gooey with the perfect amount of cheese and egg and spinach and a flaky warm crust. Nom nom nom. I was not impressed with my seasonal coffee drink - which comes as either small, medium, or large. Note: If you order anything other than small - you are going to get it in a to-go cup because they don't have any cups large enough for the other sizes. The gals inside were nice enough - but harried - the patio was nice - inside was loud and crowded - they were out of a bunch of stuff (though it was later in the day on a Sunday around brunch time) - parking was a bit of a challenge - and order and other items were confusing. Still, it's a nice addition to the food scene in Roanoke with some really good items on the menu. read more

One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Passed through here on our way to Tennessee. Had great reviews so we went for breakfast. I had the large caramel latte (best I've ever had), and the eggs Benedict over hash browns with sausage. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I really could not finish it all but it was so delicious, I forced it. . The menu is huge. The staff run like a well oiled machine. Food came out very quickly. Bonus was being able to take our small dog on the patio while we ate. Wish I lived close by so I could frequent this place regularly. Go for breakfast. You will not be disappointed! read more
