My favorite is the French toast bagel. If you haven't tried it and you like French toast, you should try that bagel. It is awesome.

Overpriced bagel sandwiches. The place is cute and the food is fine. But I could do without the hefty price tag and side of religion.

Bagels were solid. Sandwiches were light on the egg which is normally what they overkill at Bacon Egg and Cheese with. Will stop by again.

Her excuse was that they take online orders as well. That is not my problem. Then the next excuse was that the bagel melt had to be put under the broiler. She and another man were talking about me and I told them if they had something to say it to my face. To think that the owner came down to GA to learn from our friend and owner of a bagel shop. I am appalled that the Roanoke staff had more people and about over double the space and they take three times as long. Two people were standing around not doing (a guy and a girl) anything but talking and laughing. There was even a little kid in the kitchen. He could have only been around 8. That should not be allowed and I am going to the labor and restaurant laws to see it is legal. Where I work, everyone picks up the slack. Piss poor service and Rosa needs to not make excuse and should in my opinion be fired. I did lose my temper but don't tell me one excuse and then another. The last thing she screamed at me that it had only been 12 minutes. I got a couple other receipts from people and their wait time was ten minutes after us. Rosa should be fired and the man with the beard should be reprimanded and even fired. Lastly, most restaurants require something on their hair and beard and NO was wearing them. No hair nets. Rosa had on an Aunt Jemima style wrap but she wasn't work hard either. So sad because we loved the fact that one of our favorite bagel shop from GA was coming here. Update: there is a law that said restaurant staff has to cover hair and beards. The link to the law in VA. https://law.lis.virginia.gov/admincode/title12/agency5/chapter421/section240/

One of my favorite treats, especially for breakfast, is a freshly made New York Style Bagel with…read morecream cheese. It not only tastes good but it seems to energize me. Years ago, on Saturday mornings, before I went to teach my College Psychology class, I would stop at a bakery and had a bagel with cream cheese. They were so good. Today, after hearing so much about this place, I decided to go and try their Bagels out. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Donnie D's Bagels & Deli in Daleville, Virginia, is the perfect example. When I arrived I was aware that their Roanoke, Virginia location had been through a fire and was in the process of renovation. When they first opened I was one of the first ones there trying out their bagels and watching them make them. I invite you to go read my review and see my photographs accompanying it. Their bagels were so good that I missed them and that is why I came to this location to see if they also made them here. I was under the impression that they also made their own bagels here. But it seems that their bagel operation was done in their Roanoke location and they were sent here. Because one of the things they had here was a sign that said that while they were renovating their other location in Roanoke, they were having their bagels shipped from a bakery in New Jersey. What they were making here were their biscuits. When I arrived, I was very impressed with this small but cozy, little deli and bagel shop. The fist thing you see is a display case with lots of bagels of all kinds. The bagels looked big and plumpy. I walked over to the ordering counter and a friendly young lady greeted me and when I asked her about the bagels, told me the story I just wrote about above. Since I was here already I ordered a Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese and a bottle of Starbucks Cold Caffè Mocha. The bagel was good but not as good as Donnie D's, which I still remember when I had one at their Roanoke location. It was warm, crispy on the outside and nice and soft in the inside. I also had an opportunity of seeing the trays of their biscuits made on the premises and they also looked good. I definitely recommend this place to stop for breakfast or lunch. They have quality products, a warm and cozy ambiance, an excellent customer service.

Solid bagel sandwiches, but our 3 basic egg and cheeses were not worth a 30 minute wait.read more

This was fine for my needs, and indeed I like places with a narrow focus, but it might come as a surprise to some. The space was minimal. I was a bit surprised to see bagels packed in threes; I was expecting to be able to pick them out by flavor one at a time. I was also a bit surprised that the cinnamon rolls their website promised didn't seem to be there, though a few other intriguing baked goods were on sale. Ultimately, I took some mouthwatering rosemary and sundried tomato bagels along with some plain ones for comparison, as well as a chocolate babka cake. The bagels had that bit of sourness that makes them worthwhile, and a nice bit of browning. The babka cake, which I worried would not have enough chocolate, delivered satisfaction on a per-bite basis. What I wanted out of my baked goods is pretty much what i got.

Bagels came out cold and firm, closer to hard than fresh. The egg and cheese portions were light, leaving the sandwich dry and unbalanced. For the price, it doesn't hold up. The latte didn't help. It tasted flat and mechanical, like it came straight from a push-button machine rather than being made with any care. Both kids left food on the table, which doesn't happen often. That usually tells the story without needing much explanation. **SERVICE** Ordering was simple and the food came out without delay. No issues with accuracy, but the interaction stayed at a surface level. It moved efficiently, just without much attention beyond that. Service: **AMBIENCE** The space is functional and sizable, but dated. It feels built for volume rather than comfort. There's nothing actively wrong with it, but there's also nothing pulling you to stay. Ambiance: **CLOSING** There's a disconnect between what's being charged and what's being delivered. The foundation is simple. Bagels, eggs, coffee. None of it requires complexity, just consistency and attention. Right now, it leans too far toward routine without enough care behind it. The steady traffic is hard to explain. Ratings Food: ** Service: *** Ambiance: *** Overall: **/* Personal Disclaimer: I value small, independent restaurants and want them to succeed. This review reflects a single visit and may not represent every experience. ***EVERY RESTAURANT IS WORTH TRYING FOR YOURSELF. Go, see what you get, and be honest in how you evaluate it.*** I've worked as an executive chef, restaurant manager, and owner. I tend to hold places to a higher standard. Execution matters. Freshness matters. Effort shows. Cutting corners usually does too.

It was a little over ten dollars, which is a little pricey for me personally, but I hoped it would be worth it. It was not. My bagel came out quickly, but as soon as I opened it, I was a little sad. I was disappointed to see that there was basically no cream cheese on the bagel or lox, and most of the space was taken up by the toppings. It tasted okay, but it was nothing impressive. There is seating inside and outside too, and the inside was very clean and the line was quick. If you don't like a lot of cream cheese on your bagel, this place is for you.
