Great atmosphere, impeccable service. However, one of my favorite meals is eggs Benedict. I couldn't wait to slice into my beautiful poached egg...when it arrived it was over cooked. One of the yokes didn't even run. That probably sounds petty but I was disappointed. My expectations were higher. We ordered Eggs Royale, Spicy Almond Avocado, Spicy Scramble, Eggs Benedict and English Breakfast also got side orders of Halloumi, Truffled Brie Mashed Potato and Mac n Cheese. Everything was excellent but I think we all agreed the mashed potatoes were the most outstanding thing. We were all so full that for dessert we just asked for a Toffee Pudding with a candle and they still brought an extra brownie on the house. Service was very pleasant and efficient. I am giving this restaraunt 3 stars because of the service. When I first came in, I didn't realize there was also a Street Pizza. I waited by the door and no employee decided to approach me. I actually left and walked around the mall/shops and realized Bread Street Kitchen was actually upstairs (albeit you can still come in through the first floor or vice versa). Then, on the second floor, there was hostess after waiting for 3-5 minutes. After someone went and got her, I was seated promptly. However, there was no waiter/waitress helping me; I believe she must have been of a lower position. I wasn't recommended any options and also wasn't offered tap water until the waiter offered it at the END of my meal. The stars come from the fact that when I received my dish, it was surely delicious. However when the waiter finally came, he offered some lamb sauce (ironically at a Ramsay restaurant lol) when I was halfway through my meal. Needless to say, the sauce upgraded the flavor a lot. I ordered it with a side of truffle mash because of the great reviews, and it did not disappoint. I downgraded this restaurant from 4 to 3 because of the hidden fees I paid which included £2 for a lamb sauce I was offered, £4.50 for water I was offered (wasn't offered tap; see above), and a 12.5% service charge that was added to my bill that was not mentioned on the menu. That whole thing added about £15 to my bill. I don't mind for the food and the US is worse with tipping; what I mind is not being told about it upfront. read more

Coming from the US, we could've picked anywhere to eat in London for Christmas, especially after being such fans of Gordon Ramsay for a while and wanting to try his restaurants. Besides asking for a 200 pound deposit before sitting down, Immediately our waitress had no smile, no happy greeting, and avoided eye contact with our table as much as possible. The only thing she did was push 3 bottles of still water to our table without us asking for a whopping 28 pounds. Additionally, once our food was brought out, the waitress never once stopped by our table, let alone asked us how our food or dinner was, which was baffling considering the price we paid, alongside it was Christmas night. She never even said thank you after our bill was paid or when we walked by her to exit the restaurant. When I passed her, I said merry Christmas to which I was offered no reply. Alongside the service, I paid over 300 USD for an extremely mediocre burger and side of mashed potatoes. It was disappointing to have such mediocre food for a very expensive price and little to no service (almost indignant especially on one of the most important days of the year). not to drag this on, but there was little to no decorations, and they couldn't even substitute fries for a salad? Place is not easy to find because it is upstairs from the pizza place. Food was mediocre at best. Had the sirloin which was not what I hoped for. They did not have a filet, which is cut of meat I wanted. Mashed potatoes were good, but over salted. My daughter had the burger, she said it was good. The saving grace for me was the prawn cocktail I had for appetizer. There is nothing complementary here. Paid £4.50 for bread which was ok. Gotta say I was a bit diss appointed and expected more. First off, our server was so nice and funny. He was great. The food, was abysmal. For years we have loved watching any shows with Gordon Ramsay and was so excited to try his restaurant while on vacation from the states. My husband has always wanted to try his beef Wellington. It was honestly one of the worst meals we have ever had. The beef still had a ton of sinew and cartilage. It was supposed to be medium rare but truly don't even know how it was cooked. The mushroom ring around it was burnt to absolute he** and back. It was totally inedible. We had 4 people and we all wanted to try it so we got two orders. We also got an app and a side of Mac and cheese. None of us had alcohol but instead all had 1 soda. The only good dish was the sticky toffee pudding. The bill was shocking at around 365 pounds for the worst meal of our lives. Skip this place. It was also quite dead inside, first red flag. I've been to Bread Street Kitchen three times now (for brunches and dinner) and it has never disappointed. The dishes are simple but it's clear that they pay attention to detail. Everything was delicious. The staff were very attentive and lovely and I loved the decor and furnishings. Just to be aware: in addition to the service charge they do charge a cover charge and the price does tend to add up. I would recommend the scrambled eggs (brunch menu), Sunday roast and the sticky toffee pudding which is just divine. Would I go again: for occasions yes. read more

I need to commend our server Mabz, she was so attentive, knowledgeable and just all around great at her job. It is our last night in London and she made a real effort to make it special. The food and drinks were all so spectacular. My husband and daughter split the Beef Wellington. It was melt in your mouth. Both my son and I had the butter chicken, also very delicious. Since the Wellington takes a while we shared an assortment of starters including burrata, roast pepper and tomato soup, a duck salad and fried cauliflower. All were tasty but the cauliflower was something special. We tried a few different mixed drinks and all were delicious and refreshing. I was visited this restaurant today, after finishing up with work. I'm traveling through the area on business from the US. While my cocktail was excellent, the service was terrible. I arrived at the bar at 5:00 PM. There were 2 people seated and about 12 empty seats. I was greeted by a gentleman that asked what I was "looking for". I said a seat at the bar and he told me I would have to move within the hour because he had special events going on. I asked what they were and he replied there are several of them and directed me to a high top in the bar area before walking away. Although he made my cocktail with precision, rather than offering a refill when I finished, he brought a water and never offered to refill my drink. It was clear I wasn't welcome in the bar area. Delicious and pricey. My husband and I recently visited London on vacation and made it a point to check out Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay. The bottom floor is a pizza kitchen- with fun UK decor and a lively atmosphere. Bread Kitchen is on the second floor. We were seated behind the hostess table with a view outside and of the open kitchen. My first impression was that it was HOT- the open kitchen made it very warm, so, my husband and I shed our outer layers in attempt to get comfortable. We started our meal with the Snow Crab California Roll, which was delicious. My husband ordered the Slow-Roasted Cumbrian Pork Belly, with a side of Mac and Cheese, and I ordered the Fish & Chips. As you can see, there was a huge difference in plate size. My husband is a foodie so he devoured his plate and then helped me finish mine. Topped it off with the sticky toffee pudding which I would 100% recommend. The reason I'm giving it 4/5 stars is because it was a bit pricier than I expected, and, our waiter stopped assisting us after our dinner was served because he had a large party assigned to his section... the hostess helped us order dessert and pay out. read more

A friend was in town to visit and had wanted to try Bread Street Kitchen. New place? Hell yeah, especially when it's a Friday! The ambience was nice and the restaurant was on the 2nd floor. We arrived at 7pm and the place was half deserted. Hunmmmm..maybe it's summer, it's hot and people decided to head outdoor for drinks instead? Anyway, we were seated and began pouring over the menu. The waitress was fab and made good recommendations - she told us what's the most popular, dishes that always stay on the menu and personal favourite - you could tell that she was really passionate about her job. The salmon tartar was good (it's my first time trying it so can't really compare to anywhere else). Main was steamed sea bream with butter. Surprisingly, it tastes really fresh, light and clean, none of those fishy bad smell. We also tried their cocktail, they don't scrimp on their alcohol so it was great! I like their food, the waitress who served us and the ambience. Well, i should have rated it a lot higher right? Yep, I was really torn, for the reasons below: 1. Mandatory £2 cover charge per person - no idea why 2. Service charge was included although optional - note how I've said that the waitress that served us was good? However the let down was the amount of time we needed to get their attention, way too long! We dropped by here on Saturday afternoon hoping for some post lunch drinks and dessert, when we reached the 1st floor we noticed (from reading the menu) that there was also a cafe/pastries/snacks area on the lower ground floor, so decided to descend there as opposed to dining solo upstairs. Despite a great mix of cocktails and drinks menu on the lower level, the nibbles available downstairs were limited, pastries were no longer being served in the afternoon; disappointing, and the staff informed us that we could not order from the dessert menu upstairs - despite there being a fully functional lift which would have made whisking down a dessert from the upper kitchen a breeze. I guess they don't want to go the extra mile for customers (yet)... maybe feedback like this will eventually make a difference...the olives and manchego cheese we did try were good, as were the cheesy risotto mushroom balls. We also tried some veggie squash flatbreads which were ok, but nothing to write home about. As for the decor its nice, but all very artificial, this isn't some converted industrial space, its made to look like it is, and the faux staining on the bathroom mirrors takes things a little too far. Also the fake candle bulbs on the lower bar are incredibly bright, we were almost blinded by the light every time we glanced towards the bar vying for the staffs attention.. We cant really comment on the food as what we had was effectively tapas, that being said we will return to try the food upstairs, I just hope its a better experience than our first. read more

I booked for dinner last Saturday for 9:30 pm and went 30 minutes earlier- upon arrival (and despite what it is mentioned on their website that booking is not necessary) (and despite being half full) I was stopped for 10 minutes at front desk trying to find my booking- they tried with my first name, surname, and finally asked me if I am sure I booked in this restaurant !!!! I fished into my bag and got my cell phone to show them my booking confirmation email, but for weird reason there was no signal at all (even after 2 hours we tried to call a cab but no mobile line was available in this place) any way they allowed us in- FINALLY- apologizing about a crash down of the system at 8 pm that night!! the decoration is quite cool and quirky- love it menu is a bit confusing, with three folded pages made of three different sections (starter, main and sides) and of course you can mix and match there is no chicken on the menu (Poussin is not chicken in my dictionary) and so many pigs !! I ordered the pie which was not bad (think the mince could have tasted and smelled better) our dessert order arrived (which was exceptional- best part of the night), was placed on a tray next to out table- but no one showed up to serve it until after ice cream started to melt in front of my eyes I stood up tried to grab the attention of any one who works in the place to come and put the plates in front of me I read on the site that this place costs approximately £25 per person. well, i do not know how is that applicable in reality as we spent 60 quid each (wine was an average bottle nothing fancy) I am not impressed - although I really wanted to read more

Having recently moved to town, my wife and I were tired of rolling the dice with whatever place we ended up in and made a booking for the GR restaurant nearby for a proper dinner. We were not disappointed. I was a bit unsettled by walking in to find a DJ and bumping music. Thankfully the dining room was upstairs away from all of that, though still much too loud for my taste. Yes, I'm getting crotchety in my old age. The restaurant was larger than I expected and I loved the open kitchen setup and the desk lamp decor throughout. Our server came over and we got down to business with our meal. A few starters, main, side and dessert. Here's our lineup: Seared Yellow fin tuna, aji amarillo pepper dressing, corn kernels Grilled pear and endive, land cress, almonds, shaved Pecorino Romano and mustard dressing Roasted cod with crushed potatoes, artichoke, salted capers, red wine and lemon sauce Dingley Dell pork chop 10oz Braised red cabbage with apples and sultanas Praline Parfait The salad was great and my preferred appetizer. I loved my pork chop, though it never saw any of the pepper sauce that was supposed to arrive with it. Didn't really need it, but I'm always curious to sample a good kitchen's offerings. My wife really liked the cod. On the waiter's suggestions we got the praline and it was a fantastic way to end our meal. We had a wonderful meal at Bread Street. I will add that the DJ and club vibe, and especially the "cover charge" that's added to your bill, are unnecessary. I joined a few ladies for dinner at this Gordon Ramsay restaurant with much enthusiasm and excitement. I expected that Chef Ramsay's establishment would be well run and delicious. Bread Kitchen did not disappoint! I had the DELICIOUS superfood salad (packed with so many fresh, tasty vegetables) and the chocolate cake (perfectly oozing and not too sweet). Everything seemed prepared at a very high technical skill level and I really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say was missing was that "comfort" food feeling. This doesn't meant comfort food, I mean food that makes you feel happy and not just satisfied (this can come in a salad form too!). Again, technically everything was done to perfection. There was just that "extra" component missing to take it over the top. I applaud the restaurant but am not rushing to return. The ambiance is super cute. It has an after-work chill, yet slightly upscale, vibe. They even have a photo booth where you can snap photos and get a free photo strip! Love this. The service was impeccable. This was my second visit to BSK and it was definitely the best. I was there alone and eating alone can be very awkward unless you have a great server. Camilla made my visit extra special - she was sweet, funny and attentive without being overbearing. The food was excellent all around. I started with the spicy tuna tartare which wasn't too spicy. The wonton chips were perfect - not greasy as they can be. My meal was the surf and turf. Steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Chips were outstanding. The lobster tail was good, but my least favorite of the dish. For dessert I had the chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream. It was the perfect portion size. The fondant was warm and gooey. It wasn't cheap. But well worth it for a special treat before heading home to the states. read more

We came here as American tourists who watched many episode of Master Chef. For someone who's so critical of others, Gordon Ramsey needs to take a good look at his own restaurant- just disappointing. Well, well, well... Mr. Ramsay, when was the last time you did a quality check here? So let's start from the beginning: what an odd front entrance! Huge curtains leading to a lonely bartender who directed me to take the stairs while directing a couple behind me to take the lift... I guess I should take that as a compliment! Upstairs I was greeted by a nice woman but unfortunately she had bad breath. Interestingly enough so did the waiter! Shortly after being shown my table I was provided with a couple of tiny although really good pieces of bread. Little did I know at this point that I'd be charged two frickin pounds per piece!!! At no point was this detail disclosed to me and it was only when the bill arrived that I noticed this rip off! I ordered the burger and the chips. I asked the burger to be prepared medium... Got it completely without a trace of pink plus it was dry and tasted ok at best. The chips were an even bigger disappointment, where they were uncertain whether they were fried (lots of grease on the outside) or baked (somewhat undercooked on the inside). The dessert was definitely better, with a pecan pie, cinnamon ice cream and an espresso. Service was sub par with the waiter disappearing at times. I couldn't help but notice that the two tables next to mine weren't impressed by the service either. From start to end it took roughly an hour and a half but I truly believe I could have been out of there in an hour should the waiter be a little more attentive and proactive. To end, I don't like the way the bill shows the total including the discretionary tip. Wouldn't it be more customer friendly to have the total first (without the tip?) and then another total showing the amount with the tip?... Anyway, Plane Food at Heathrow airport was great. This place? Somewhat of a letdown for me. It gets three stars because dessert was great, location and facility are amazing and the washroom is really cool! Gordon Ramsay is a man with his fingers in a lot of pies. So I had to try a burger that had Gordon Ramsay's finger in it... figuratively. Bread Street Kitchen is just one of the 14 London restaurants that are part of the Gordon Ramsay Group - a group with 30 restaurants globally. Bread Street has a New York City, Great Gatsby vibe of the art deco 20s and 30s. The tiled floors and looming ceilings surround you and the open kitchen gives it a noisy, New York feel as the waiters bustle to and fro. The burger is a relatively simple affair: £12.50 for a short rib beef burger topped with Monterey Jack cheese, fresh veggies and Siracha mayo. The perfect proportions of the burger please the OCD in me. The burger is served in a brioche-style bun with an eggy, glossy finish that holds the perfectly-sized burger patty. The cheese is melty and engulfs the patty and Bread Street has shown some restraint with the sauce so that it doesn't ooze all over you. It appears they cut the lettuce down to size in a bid to make everything concentrically circular. Call me OCD for liking that, but to me, the only thing worse than a lousy bit of beef is an under-sized patty that is swallowed up by the bun and toppings. Hand-cut chips or mash will be another £4 if you fancy a side - or Ramsay's mac 'n' cheese with garlic-roasted crumbs will be £5.50. It's on the pricey side for such a simple burger, but it's done well and satisfies the meat-lover in me. It doesn't try to bowl you over with elaborate fixings, rich delicate toppings or the like - it simply does the job. My final take on the burger: it's quite nice, but just that - it doesn't wow or stand out in a crowded London field. It almost seems that it's on the menu because it has to be... It's good, not great. According to Forbes, Ramsay's empire netted him $60 million in earnings in 2015 - not bad for a guy who started out playing football in Scotland. Ramsay's culinary career started in the kitchen of Macro Pierre White before advancing through that of Albert Roux, Guy Savoy, Joël Robuchon, and Pierre Koffman. This week, I had the impromptu pleasure of dining at one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. We're already onto a winner before I've even stepped inside because I am likely to support anything that angry and brilliant Scottish man does. I sat down for lunch at his very own, 'Bread Street Kitchen', situated in the heart of the City of London. (Might I add, right next to Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Barbecoa) What actually struck me the most was just the sheer size of the first floor, it is really quite vacuous, but with a rustic/art-deco-esque feel. To make sense of it, I guess you could think of it as, where Italian cuisine meets corporate London and the result is quite a unique restaurant of modern, clean-cut decor, strewn with well-placed homely-touches I began my visit with a Cosmopolitan - whilst some may see this as too much on a Monday lunchtime, I can at least position myself as a cosmo-connoisseur as an excuse. I have to say, it was one of the best cosmos I have ever had - I just wish there was more of it! Made with Tanqueray Gin and Pierre Ferrand dry Curaçao with Blossoms raspberry syrup and fresh lemon juice; it was fruity, floral and perfectly balanced. I decided to start with a comforting bowl of Rigatoni. I can never resist this type of over sized pasta tubes, especially when it comes with aubergine (my favourite vegetable), and cheese (mozzarella and Pecorino Romano) Double cheese? Sold! The generous-size-for-a-starter was by no means beautiful, but it was beautifully simple, perfectly al dente and comforting. Remaining with the comfort food, I then tried the spiced braised lamb shank with mash potato, baby onions and orange gremolata. The meat was as tender-soft as I'd hoped (with maybe a little too much skin and fat for me) and the mash potato were buttery clouds. I enjoyed it very much, however I would say the rest of the dish actually wasn't packed with flavour, including the jus-y sauce surrounding the dish. The staff were pleasant, especially the chefs behind the counter. I would however say the waiting staff were relatively vacant; forgetting to take our drink order at the start or mis-remembering details - perhaps this is usual, perhaps they were just having a day-dreamy afternoon - either way I can just imagine Mr. Ramsay taking a characteristic melt-down at certain points of the service. Very small menu for breakfast, also very poor portions. We asked for an Omelette and that's the only thing you can get, no garnishment at all. Relatively pricey for what you get. Really like this place. Ambiance: Great vibe. Extremely large, particularly for a restaurant in London. Fortunately the space is well utilised. High celings, good spacing between tables, and of course, the amount of space generally all result in a very bright, airy and cheerful environment. Reminds me a lot of ABC Kitchen in NY which is one of my favourite restaurants generally so that's a good thing. Food/Drinks: Quite a good cocktail selection, so that's always nice. Admittedly, I didn't take any gambles with the food; scallops and the pork belly got the most mentions on yelp so I had both and they did not disappoint. Scallops were absolutely divine. Perfectly cooked, really nice sear, and creamy in the middle. Could easily have eaten way more of these. Pork belly likewise was perfectly cooked, and melt-in-your-mouth good. The spiced apple sauce was the perfect complement. My one complaint was that the crackling was insanely salty. Ultimately all this meant is that I had really small bites of it and left a lot at the end, but it was a bit ridiculous and hence the star off the rating. Was too full for dessert sadly but the panna cotta and chocolate fondant were both calling out to me. My friend had the cod, and he said it was a great dish as well. Service: Multiple reviews mention slow service. I would have to agree. The wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable, albeit slightly inattentive. They took ages to come for the order, clear the food etc... That being said, it was still borderline acceptable. Overall, food is nothing too complex, but everything is really well executed. Awesome ambiance and a decent drink selection make this a must repeat for me. I imagine this would be the perfect brunch spot, so that's definitely going to be my next trip. read more

Bread and butter: Yum. Quinoa, pomegranate, cucumber and raisin salad - bleh to coriander/cilantro. It wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu, so I ordered it because it sounded refreshing (which it was, minus the ridiculous amount of coriander). Ugh ruined the dish for me but I can see how it would be good. Pork belly: really crispy, hard fried (?) pork skin. The meat was tender and delicious but it was way too fatty. Excellent sauce and a potato mash of some sort. Tasty but wouldn't order again. Sides: Greens were plain but just what I needed to compliment the heavy meal. Chips were delicious but could've used more salt. Bread and butter pudding - too expensive, delicious but seemed underdone. Tasted like what you would expect bread pudding to be. Service here was incredibly slow and unpolished. Overall we enjoyed our food but we were quite irritated for how long it took for the food to come out and also the brash service. They were not very busy so it was disappointing that it took 45 minutes for the food to make it to the table. I cannot even remember how many times the servers did something a bit strange but it happened too frequently for sure. We were still eating our bread and without asking if they could clear our plates, they grabbed all the plates on the table and took off with them. Really bizarre experience.
