Tried Bread Zeppelin for the first time recently, and it's an interesting concept. They offer various salads, all served in a warm French bread, that's been hallowed out. If you want though, you can simply order your salad sans bread, or with the bread on the side (which is what I chose). They clearly order very highly quality bread, as it was simply excellent. I'd come back just for their bread. The salad I ordered (Caesar) was good, but not great, and here's why-they have you tell them "when" on the dressing, and it's hard to gauge from outside the lines, what's enough. I've been on the corporate side of the restaurant biz for over a decade-and my only critique is that this needs to be changed. They shoudl have a standard amount of dressing for each salad, and customers can choose to say "a little more/less/on the side, etc"...it's not smart to make the customer guess, get it wrong, and then end up with a customer that isn't enjoying an overly drench salad/sandwich (this was me). All in all it's clear they use great, fresh ingredients, and the concept is interesting, so I'm likely to return. read more

Neat idea. Not sure how often I'll eat here, however. Been twice now, the first time finding my Zeppelin tasty, though it left me hungry within about 2 hours. Today I tried the same one with different protein, and the flavor was really overwhelming due to far too many chunks of artichoke and the dressing (Cucumber Dill) being rather bland by comparison to the first time I had it. The tofu (yes, tofu) was too soft and creamy (you read right), as once it is all chopped up it starts blending into all the other ingredients. The first time I was there with coworkers and we posited how they came up with the hollowed-out bread. Maybe they bake them on tubes to avoid waste? No. Today, I saw it: they cut off the end, use metal tongs to pull out the core, and toss both into a bin. When I asked what they do with the cores, the guy said they make croutons. I then asked if they go through a lot of croutons. He said, "Not really, no." So tons of waste. This bothers me. Perhaps make some bread salad or something to give out to a homeless shelter? And, we're still paying for it. My sandwich and bag of baked Lays, no drink, cost just shy of $10. At least with Potbelly (which, I love), the Skinny sandwiches cost less - less bread, less fillings, and totally fulfilling. I like it, but not enough to make it a regular stop; nor do I like contributing to wasteful food practices like that. read more

If you want a really good salad, then you have found the place! You can have just about any type of salad you want in a traditional bowl, or their way, stuffed into some really great bread! The service is fast and friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean. Get there early if you want a table. Seating is limited and it is not unusual for the line to be out the door. read more

My twin and I drive 45 minutes just to eat these sandwiches...As one of my intern friends said when we are here, "consider this place to be subway's older, more sophisticated sister," which is a statement that speaks for itself! Cheese and crackers this place is amazing! I almost don't want to tell people how great it is, because it's just going to make the line longer... I got the lone star zeppelin- steak, bleu cheese, greens, jalapeno, onion rings, hanger bleu dressing, etc.. all chopped up and stuffed into the dug-out, fresh baked bread. Tricky to eat, but OMG so delicious! Will be going back ASAP. It's a busy place, so don't count on being able to find a seat if you go during the lunch rush... Update: tried the southwest- not as good as the lonestar, something is missing.. The washington state was good, if you're in the mood for that kind of thing! Husband says the cobb is the best. I went here for the first, and last, time ever. The salad was decent, until I found a used bandaid hiding among the lettuce in my salad. It was unbelievably disgusting and traumatizing. How the hell does that happen, wouldn't you realize if you had a bandage and after making someone's salad it somehow disappeared? This has to be some kind of health code violation. After I called and informed the manager, this geniuses' response was "oh, well if it was me I probably wouldn't eat here again." I did get a refund but needless to say I'll not be returning for the foreseeable future. read more

Too overpriced, too crowded, and too noisy. It's so loud that the servers can not even hear what you are trying to order. The price is not worth the little sandwich. Unfortunately I wasn't really impressed with Bread Zeppelin's. It's a cute concept and the workers were really nice and helpful (except the young lady at the register, I don't think she even wanted to be there that night) but the salad really didn't do anything for me. There are tons of options and combos you can create or you can choose one of their salad/zeppelin creations, there's probably 9 or 10 salad meals on the menu with dressing suggestions as well. I picked the Southwestern and chose to get it in a bowl (regular salad), the other option is to get it as a zeppelin which is where they hollow out a French bread roll and stuff your salad into the middle. It's pretty neat to watch them do it. They're not wasteful here, they use the leftover bread to make their seasoned croutons! The croutons were PERFECT too. The ball and chain wasn't with me so I had a hard time figuring out what to get him, so I got him the NOLA (fried shrimp) in a zeppelin with the suggested remoulade dressing. Once you move down the line (it's kinda like a subway/chipotle line), you get to watch them create your zeppelin or salad bowl. They pour everything out on the chopping sheet and then they get to Edward Scissorhands'ing your food. They chop it up, add the dressing and then stuff it into the bread or bowl and send you on down the line to pay. I think this is the point that if I come back I'll do things differently. One, I don't like a soggy salad, so I never really add a lot of dressing to my salads and even though I told them how much dressing to use, my salad still turned out pretty soggy. So, I'll have them put the dressing on the side next time. Also, I think a lot of the chopping of the ingredients kinda made my salad greens a little less crunchy, so I'll have to ask them to go easy on the chopping as well. My salad was okay, despite being soggy and Rod absolutely loved his NOLA Zeppelin. Next time I'll try the Zeppelin, bread makes everything better, eh? read more

Okay, so I really didn't want to like this place, I don't know why, call me a sandwich purist. Why would I want a hollowed out baguette? I like bread! Salad as a sandwich stuffer? Salads are side dishes, my friends. I was totally surprised, however, when my Zeppelin was actually delicious, and had me coming back twice in three days. I went for a simple order, but there are plenty of salad creations or you can make your own. I ordered the chicken caesar Zep with added pepperoncini both times (I mistakenly got green bells the first time, and surprisingly didn't want to kill myself, it was actually quite good). The bread, which I expected to be a major disappointment, is delicious. You don't miss all the chewy doughy center at all, because the crisp of the outside is so good. And the sandwich, which looks smallish, is really filling, especially when paired with a Dr. Pepper slurpee from Race Track down the road. Do it. read more

Loved this place! Came here with my colleague for lunch. Gets very crowded during lunch time but there's no compromise made on the quality of food. The ingredients are fresh and their "salad in sandwich" is really good (tough to not like something when there's bread involved) ! I suggest their carrot ginger lime dressing. As you can tell by my profile, I'm a meat and potatoes kinda guy...so when my wife asked me to go to a salad place for dinner, I was little hesitant. The caveat, if I'm not full from this salad, she owes me a burger! So with that said, I was not only full but I was surprised at how good my salad was. I went with the Make-Your-Own-Salad option where I picked the type of lettuce, 6 salad topping, and a protein (for a charge). I was about 5 minutes to late, because after seeing the guys salad behind me, called The Lone Star, I had food envy. I asked the guy, "are those onion rings on your salad?" He said, "Yep! Where else can you get a salad with fantastic steak covered in onions rings?!?" Good question, because I never knew you could (until I went here)! So I would recommend this place to anyone...they have so many options for you to choose from and all their dressings are home made. The thing that I truly enjoyed is that they take all of the ingredients that you selected and they chop them up, so that every bite you have a little of everything...which is AWESOME! I've heard of a soup sandwich, which is not a good thing, but never a salad sandwich... until now... and they're fantastic. A zeppelin is a chop salad, where you choose you're own salad base, toppings, and dressing- but then they stuff it in a wonderful warm artisan hoagie crust that has had the bread pulled out. My definition doesn't do it justice, either. It's mind blowing... its the best of both worlds, you get a premium salad AND a premium sandwich. I can eat a sandwich for lunch and honestly tell my girlfriend I had salad for lunch. So dope. Its not just the whole paradigm shift or the joy of saying "salad-sandwich" that makes it good though, Bread Zep has like 8 giant tubs of the freshest greens I've seen all summer, ranging from basic Romaine and Leaf lettuce to Kale and Red Leaf Lettuce. I don't know how they do it when I can't go to the grocery store and find a 12oz. bag of salad without stuff already turning brown and slimy in the bottom... Same goes for all the proteins and toppings, super fresh and quite tasty. Even the tofu is good. There is a menu with some great zeppelins already thought out, but I always build my own, and its the kind of place where you have what you want in your head but when you get to the front of the line you start saying, "Oh can I have beets too? And some provolone... ooh and some Garbanzo beans too." From there your salad goes to the katana station where it is dressed and literally rocked into 1000 pieces. During the lunch rush there's like a dozen kids wielding these round blades and swapping out dirty cutting boards for clean. They are all typically way more friendly than average foodservice people and their artistry makes Subway's look like paint-by-number hacks. If you want to stop here they'll put your salad in a bowl (which is just so old fashioned to me now!) But I like mine in the hollowed out baguette. Something about an entire roll being hollowed out and replaced with salad... its the best concept I've seen in years. read more

I love this place and the concept. Seriously I want one of these where I live. People need to be franchising this thing out. 1. They make a solid salad. They're using the salad by ingredients concept and it works really well and I've enjoyed restaurants that use a similar concept. 2. The differentiation though is the Bread Zeppelin. Love this concept of putting a salad inside a piece of french bread. It works so well with everything mixed in. You can customize your sandwiches/salads to your heart's content, but they also have a pretty solid menu of go-to favorites. I've tried a bunch of them, but LOVE the Washington State and Atlantis. I have no idea why this thing hasn't blown up and opened up in more places because whenever I go here for lunch the line is out the door every day. read more

Review based on 1 visit, around 6:00 on Saturday evening. Disclaimer: I was visiting the area on business. Living in the California SF Bay Area, I often eat salads for lunch or dinner, and I know a good salad when I taste it. Pros: - Overall not bad food, just not especially good either. Had a chopped salad, Pacific Beach bowl with shrimp. The produce was fine if not spectacular. Shrimp were too few and kind of tasteless, though. Champagne vinaigrette was nothing special, and had an almost creamy texture, which was odd. Still, overall it seemed a fairly healthy meal option. Cons: - Not a great value. Food was ok but not worth what I paid for it. - Service was spotty. Verdict: I might return, maybe. I would try a different salad option, though, and avoid the shrimp. read more

I was so hungry after my 3 hour drive into town for work meetings and wanted something STAT that wasn't going to break my calorie bank. I went with a salad, not the zeppelin. But I'll come back for that zeppelin, dammit! I got dressing on the side and didn't even end up using it because by the time I got back to my hotel room, all the yummy flavors were already mixed in together. People love this place. At a $10-$12 price point I say it's ok. One word of advice: When its time for the dressing be sure you're ready to say "when". It's somewhat unreasonable to complain about something you have control of but on my last 2 visits a large quantity of dressing had already been added before they said "tell me when to stop". If price was unimportant to me I would have given 4 stars as the product is good. I have to go with 3 stars because of the cost. Will I go back? I love going here and would go here several times a week if my wife would let me! My kids also love this place. I love how they chop up the salads and make it so easy (not having to chomp on huge bulky lettuce heads, etc.). It's always fresh and delicious. More than anything I'm a fan of chopped salads. I hate huge chunks of lettuce in a salad so I immediately was impressed with Zeppelin. I like the concept and the inside of the place is quite neat the way the order counter is set up. One thing I think they should have is some menu's at the end of the line so you can choose what you want before getting to the order station. You really can't see the choices until you are ready to order. I think this would improve the line because not everyone has checked out the online menu before their visit. My advice to all is avoid this place during lunch. The line can be 25-35 minutes long. Granted everything is made right in front of your eyes so of course their would be a delay but lunch is a no go for me. My first visit I got a zeppelin and strange as it seamed it was delish. It was amazing to me how they mixed and chopped and it perfectly fit in my bread. It's the perfect size and you feel like you've made a healthy choice after eating. My second visit I got the salad it was good just not as good as the zeppelin. I realize I could have a bread addiction but I would order a bowl again but my preference is the zeppelin. The staff is really friendly and as fast as I'm sure they can be, before they finish your salad or bowl they ask again what dressing and each patron is in control of how much dressing is in their meal. I can't wait to get another zeppelin soon but it won't be between 11:15 - 1:30 I'm done with fighting the crowds. Think Chipotle except with salads. At Bread Zeppelin they stuff a hollowed out piece of bread with your favorite (or one of their own) salad mixes. Or you can have a salad without the bread. Lunch time (11:30 - 1p) was packed so go early or late. Only complaint about the lunch rush is the line gets a little hectic towards the end (they have 3-4 people chopping and stuffing the sandwiches so you get out order in the line towards the end). This place is really good, offering salads and what they call "zeppelin" sandwiches. The ordering process is pretty straight-forward: either you want a salad (48oz bowl) or a zeppelin. You get to choose an unlimited combination of greens, then what you want as toppings. The zeppelin's are pretty unique. Instead of slicing the baguette longways, they cut and end off and extract the bread. The hollowed out core then gets stuffed with the ingredients you choose. Personally, I like that method because a wet salad can get messy if the bottom end of the bread isn't closed properly. The fact that they keep one end of the bread whole, ensures that you won't have a messy lunch. read more

This is one of my favorite concepts for casual dining ever. Everything I've had from here is just fantastic. My favorites are the Southwest with chicken, the Metropolitan Cobb, and the Lone Star. The cookies are usually pretty good too. You can also ask for the guts to your bread if you order soup, which is fantastic. The line can get long at lunch for sure though, so be prepared. My only wish is that they'd open more locations in Dallas! Bread Zeppelin would clean up in Northpark or in Downtown Dallas. I've seen this place near North Park mall but never thought to visit. I work across the street from this location and was on my way to La Madeleine but looked over and decided to try it. I went around 11am and the line was to the door. It took me thirty minutes to get my food and go. I ordered the southwest with steak for the bf and the southwest with chicken for myself, both in a bowl. It comes with this amazing avocado ranch and was delicious. Its a bit pricey but big so i was able to finish half and finish the rest later. This place is very popular and gets busy so make sure you make time to go. read more

Wow. Never seen or heard of this place so we yelped it when we drove by, saw the pics, and had to try. What a great choice. Fantastic place, fantastic food, fantastic concept . Would definitely consider buying into a franchise. It like subway but better options, more options, fresher options, and they throw it in a bowl or STUFF it in some awesome fresh baked bread. We both got Atlantis Zeppelins. Think Greek chicken salad. The choices were overwhelming but it was busy and it was my first time. The Atlantis was stellar. I'm sure one made to my liking would be even better! My gf likes salads but I don't. I love sandwiches with lettuce but she doesn't. PLEASE GO HERE!! At first when I read the sign, I was like, another dumb, mediocre salad place. No, this is not. I come here all the time. Their dressings are out of this world. Get the Southwest Zeppelin with Avocado Ranch if it's your first time. How do they get the bread crunchy enough but not where it's hard to eat? It's perfect every time. For a super healthy option, the kale salad is delish. I would recommend this place to anyone. I give it 4 stars for their lack of quality customer service. They're not the most friendly, happy bunch. How about both, in one? YES PLEASE. Speed of service rocked. They were slammed, but it didn't take long at all. Quality is spot on, and this is an enticing way to get friends on board for salads when the vegetarian in the group (here here!) picks the restaurant. Score. My only issue was the confusion with the line-- when my SO and I were here, our salads were handed off to be stuffed out of order, which seemed a bit confusing for the customer I passed to talk to an employee about the amount of dressing I preferred for my salad. I may just have been clueless (heck, it was my first time), but a little more communication on the line flow would have made me less timid about waiting for my food and paying with my boyfriend. Overall, loved my experience and cannot wait to go back for more noms. I have to wonder, though... Do they throw away the "core" of the bread? That's a bit wasteful for my taste... They have a good solid salad. Fresh ingredients too. I love their salad in bread concept. It's kind of like a sandwich made of your favorite salad. Pricing is really affordable too. The only thing I wasn't too fond of is that this place is tiny. During lunch time it gets packed, the line gets really long and usually all the tables are taken. There's one small hall in-between the line and tables and you better be careful or you'll bump into someone on either side. I'd rate this place 5 stars if it were only bigger. read more

I am always in the area and have seen this place for months and after hearing so much good feedback, I finally made it in today. I was very impressed with how flavorful the food/bread was. I got a zeppelin and a bowl, both extremely good. The bread is hollowed out perfectly so you don't feel too full or fill up on bread. I like how you can either pick an item off the menu and/ or customize it. I'm also surprised you can buy bread for cheap if that's all you go in for!!! I am spoiled now. Visiting the Dallas area for an overnight stay and found this place on Yelp. You have a choice of a salad in a bowl or in a "Zeppelin" which is when they chop up the salad and stuff in this super yummy bread. I got the Plymouth Rock Zeppelin which had roasted turkey, cranberries, pecans, bleu cheese and Arcadian green mix with champagne vinaigrette and fell in love with it. It tasted fresh and the bread they stuffed in was warm and delicious. The menu also allows customers to custom make their own salad or Zeppelin. Service was great, but wasnt a fan of the loud music especially when you have to literally yell so loud for the employees to hear your order plus it was super cold in the restaurant. Being a lover of puns and even more so food puns, I thought I was going to be in love with this restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I love the concept of being able to customize a salad and stuff it into a crispy baguette. There were so many options that it was so hard to choose from. I ended up getting the Lone Star which consists of flank steak, avocado, tomato, fried onion, jalapeño, and iceberg lettuce. To bring it all together I got the Creamy Wasabi dressing. It was so much fun watching the employee chop the salad, mix it with the dressing and nestle it into the baguette. I honestly thought there was a lack of flavor despite asking for some added S&P. The baguette itself was amazing though! Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I'll consider coming back in the future to try a different salad. read more
