Been going to Firehouse Subs for many years. The subs have been pretty consistent although the service can be anywhere between terrific and appalling. Fortunately, the service was great today. Everyone was nice and friendly. Ordered the Engineer, one of my go-tos. I really like the turkey with sautéed mushrooms with melted swiss. A little lettuce, onion and tomato top it off, with some mayo based sauce. The only problem was in the overabundance of the sauce. It made the sub a slippery mess and was a bit overpowering. Poor use of reward program. My husband went in and ordered a sandwich, but forgot to tell them that he was a member of the rewards club. They did not ask for a phone number or mention it at all. He returned back to the car with his receipt, and I noticed that there was nothing to scan to add it to our account, so I sent him back in and told him to ask them to add his purchase (which was fewer than three minutes prior) to our rewards account. They were unwilling to do so. My husband loves their sandwiches. I am not a fan of their customer service, or the lack of ease with which one can redeem or gain rewards. Service, and expediency are both good however they fail to provide the quality of ingredients that Jersey Mike's does. I would rate them similarly to Penn Station in that regard. Much like the hamburger genre sandwiches are hotly contested, with many options to choose from. While Firehouse Subs is a great alternative to Subway, I wouldn't put them at the top of the "magic quadrant". Prices are fairly similar to their competition as well, so there isn't an argument to go there just on affordability alone. Furthermore Quiznos discovered that the toasted sub was more a novelty than a business proposition. Unless you're eating in, there is something lost with a toasted sub as it wilts your lettuce and makes cold toppings somewhat unruly. I like to have it as optional, but not necessarily the default setting. There is an option buried deep in their systems to have cold meat and cheese, which I would recommend if you're taking your meal away or having it delivered as it travels better. Overall it's a very mid experience, but decidedly dependable, and that does count for something. read more

You can go hard with veggies or do a meat overload on your sandwich! Either way its gonna be awesome! There veggies are fresh and they even have mushrooms, which I love! You can select from 2 sizes, medium or large. The large is huge, so come hungry. My favorite is the meatball sub with extra peppers or the steak and mushroom. Its favor is mouthwatering! Feel free to add a bag of chips or fountain drink to wash it down! Plenty of seating at this location. And the staff actually says hello when you walk in the door and also says goodbye when you leave. I love Firehouse Subs. They are a fresh, new take on subs! With so many new restaurants that serve subs popping up, Firehouse stands out with their flame grilled subs. The toaster oven or whatever oven they use is like a conveyor belt with heated coils. They place your sub underneath it and it travels along the length of the oven slowly getting yummy. That is the best way I can describe it haha. My favorite items to get here are the cold cut combo (you cant go wrong with it). This obviously isn't toasted. And the other is the Meatball sub. This one is definitely toasted. They will load up the cheese on the meatball sub and when it comes out of the oven it is supremely tasty. Ask them to go heavy on the marinara sauce on the meatball sub. You won't regret it! read more

Is there room on the super-crowded sub sandwhich landscape on north MacArthur? Quiznos, Schlotzkys, Potbelly's, Texadelphia (one door down), Jersey Mike's, Lenny's (rip off Jersey Mike's), a Subway somewhere, and a Firehouse. I'm sure I'm missing someone, but you get the idea. The Atkins Diet never had a chance on North Mac. I've eaten at all of them because sammys just work for me for lunch. How do you differentiate? Do you toast (Quizno's, Firehouse, Potbelly)? Do you serve them more tradtional, with cold white bread and cold cuts (Subway and Jersey Mike's)? So many sammys, so many days to work so you can eat them all. Firehouse (they really want to get the point across it was "founded by Firemen") is more of the toasted variety. I know I shouldn't reference once place's subs to explain another's, but these are closer to the Quizno and Potbelly variety. Smallish (but not as small of Potbelly) and toasted. The subs were good, but you aren't going to blow me away with a sammy. The strongest endorsement I can give a sammy lunch place is, "Yeah, I'll go back." Firehouse made it into my lunch rotation, which is hard to do when you have the options up and down MacArthur. But that's probably all they hope to achieve. With the size of the surrounding lunch crowd, to make a buck you only need to get into people's occassional rotation and you'll be fine. I did, however, really like the hot sauce collection (which apparently goes with the FIREhouse element). They had about three dozen bottles of hot sauce, ranging from the obvious (Tabasco) to the essoteric I've never heard of (strangely, no rooster sauce). read more

Firehouse opened a while back in (as already mentioned in a review) a very cluttered area for sandwiches and dining choices period. I ordered the engineer sandwich: turkey, cheese, sauteed mushrooms. Threw in the standard chips and drink. $8.10. I can eat a decent meal at any actual sit down restaurant within half-mile for that price. Sure, the interior is mildly interesting with the firehouse theme...and I'm always impressed by chains that grew from one small start-up. But, to really stand out in this location on MacArthur, there needs to be something more. Or, make sure your subs and customer service are outstanding. My sub was just OK and the staff was borderline courteous. Just OK does not make me want to go back any time soon... especially at that price and in that part of town. read more

Last week the company I work for, ordered us about 35 sandwiches for the staff. Although many of the sandwiches were miss-labeled, we had to pick them up at the last minute instead of the original delivery plan. We also didn't get the right number of brownies/cookies. Despite all of that, I didn't really find it necessary to leave a negative feedback, I got over it just like most of our staff. What I find extremely bothersome now and totally unprofessional was that yesterday Fire House Subs reached out to us to let us know that they apologized for their mistake and that tomorrow (being today) they would redo our original order. Our office manager sent out an email to the whole company yesterday letting us all know not to bring lunch today that we would have sandwiches in the office. Now this morning we get another email from our office manager letting us know that Fire House Subs has canceled their commitment to redoing the order due to someone writing a negative review. I understand how bothersome this can be to them, to committing to redoing the entire order and then seeing a negative review. However I feel like this could have been handled differently. They could have reached out and let us know to speak to the person who left the negative review and reconsider writing a positive one after the order was done right. Instead we now have 35 employees who did not bring lunch and were counting sandwiches for lunch. I know I speak for most of my coworkers when I say this, we would've all preferred to have just left things as they were, instead of making false illusions for the staff. read more

In the taste dichotomy of savory vs sweet, there are in my opinion, some things that just shouldn't be sweet. Subs are one of them, and if you agree with that statement, you should not eat at Firehouse Subs. Firehouse offers subs on both white and wheat bread. Both are overwhelmingly sweet. The result is a sweet sub. Think sub with corn syrup dressing. You can't really taste anything else. No meat flavor, no dressing, not even the bread, just weird artificial sweetness. The service was good and the guy who took my order was willing to give recommendations. The tvs were on different channels and had full volume - so it was difficult to focus on anything. The bathrooms and restaurant are clean. It is overpriced for what it is, which is basically a Subway only with additional condiments (such as hot sauce), but the atmosphere makes it a bit more conducive to conversation within a group. Firehouse is one of our go to spots for a good quick sandwich over the lunch hour. I have been multiple times and find that the food is consistently tasty and always fresh. We have a code word in our office for when you have a hankering for a Firehouse sub. I like the Hook and Ladder and the Engineer sandwiches the most. They just have a great balance of flavors and are very satisfying. When you are here take a moment to enjoy the culture of the place. Great detail has been given to carry the theme of the firehouse throughout the entire place. From the terms they use for a fully loaded sandwich to the Dalmatian spotted table, everything carries the Firehouse theme in it.
