Our friend is from Cheboygan and her family's cabin is right by Breakers on the water. We came up for July 4th weekend and the place was pretty busy. We saw the sign coming in that said there would be a DJ all weekend so we figured that's where we would end up after a day out. Walking in the first night, the place was packed, the DJ was spinning and the drinks and shots were flowing. We ordered some food and sat by the dance floor to people watch and get a few laughs. The servers were all friendly as well as the bartenders. The wings, chicken fingers, spinach artichoke dip were pretty good, we left full and happy. The crowd was definitely fun, so we decided to come back the next night. Came back Saturday night and the servers remembered us and we ordered the same thing as the night before. I got the birthday girl in my group to spin the wheel at the bar much to her fright. The girl who spun the wheel before her landed on "jump in the lake" so she was afraid to take a dip at midnight. She ended up hitting the jackpot and buying us all drinks. Same DJ was playing music and he was doing a pretty decent job of keeping the pace going. The patio outside is really nice, it's right by the water so you can pull up by boat and walk over or walk over from the campsites, or drive. This was my first trip up North and we had a blast. First off, the only reason I give this 3 stars is because of the menu potential. I have only been here one time. If I was rating for the burger I had it would be a 1 star. I had it well done and it was overkill. I've had plenty of well done burgers that were not this dry. The outside was black charred and the cooking was simply overkill. It also lacked flavor meaning they did not season this in any respectable fashion. Possibly the fat ratio was to low but I never asked about it. The onions were old. It was like trying to bite through rope. I had to pull them off. The waitress I had was average. Nothing bad to say. But nothing exceptional. Would I come here again? Absolutely. The reason for me coming back will be to try something else from their menu. It does look as if there are other items on the menu that could be pretty good. My only concern would be if the cook that made my burger is making everything else. There is no way anyone with a chefs sense would utilize the onions that were put on my burger. Or lack the common sense of putting a little seasoning on the burger that I could actually taste. The burger is often times the first thing I try at a new place I have never eaten at. If you fail at making a burger, the future looks grim. I will never order a burger here again. As far as the ambience goes, it was mostly laid back. A handful of alcohol infused conversations but nothing obnoxious. It's about what I'd expect at a bar where people have some joy in their voices. read more

Came in on the 4th of July with a larger party (9 people). We had called several hours previously for reservations. When we arrived, the hostess claimed that we never called for reservations because she would have taken the call if we did. I pulled out my phone and showed her the call log showing that we had called earlier. She made it clear that there was nothing she would do, and that we could wait an hour for a table. I was really surprised how rude the hostess was, and how unwilling she was to do anything to make the situation right. read more

What's not to like? It's a classic sports bar, with an above average menu. Try the pasta station on Thursdays during the busy season...it's outstanding, and portions are generous such that leftovers make a great lunch the next day. Owner is friendly, and well experienced with running a bar. He knows what you drink, and makes you feel like you are part of the 'family. The waitstaff are without exception friendly, professional, and good to their customers. Prices are not 'inexpensive', but the quality of the food and service is excellent. We could not be more pleased to have a place like this walking distance from home, and love to visit and support it. read more

So Must have run into the same RUDE OWNER that others have mentioned here. Or maybe attitude rubbing off on ALL STAFF? Either way...after great day of kayaking with family on Mullett...stopped by for a quick bite and drink overlooking the water. BUT NOOOOOOO! Tried to move a table lieterally 18 inches to get my 12 year old out of the 90 degree direct sunlight...and the RUDEST WOMAN ever said we were blocking the door (which we absolutely were not because I made sure of it beforehand) and couldn't sit there! BUT...she had this great table in the shade on the side next to the service station overlooking the asphalt parking lot...which put me in a chair DIRECTLY IN FRONT of the side service door...no joke! Then she says would you like something to drink...and my wife says 'What do you have'? And she says Pepsi or Coke or Diet of either! Mind you...we were attracted (after a hot day on the water) by the sign that said '22 Beers on Tap'. We sat in silence awaiting something more...and she repeated the Pepsi/Coke line. To which my 12 year old says...do you have lemonade cause I don't drink sodas? She said sure (WTF?)....and then stood in silence awaiting my wife and I to choose from Pepsi or Coke...or maybe she thought we should have their beer list memorized? The silence was overwhelming so I stood up and asked my family to join me in finding somewhere that might just appreciate me spending my valuable time and money In their establishment! Anyhow...I will continue to spend beautiful days with my family on Mullett and Burt Lakes...but will NEVER set foot in that dive again! read more

I enjoyed this place. The staff was friendly, the outdoor seating was pretty with the lights, and the food was good. I wasn't sure what to expect- stopped by here because it was one of the very few places that was still open, and I'm glad we stopped by. My boyfriend and I split a full rack of BBQ ribs which came with coleslaw and a choice of rice pilaf (which we got), french fries...and something else...the ribs were tasty af (the sauce was good and the meat wasn't dry, just fell right off the bone). The rice pilaf was also good, and the coleslaw was creamy but not overwhelming or too sour. Would give this entire dish a 4/5. We ordered a house salad on the side which was just a pretty standard salad. So much so I can't really rate it because it's literally just a normal salad. And....we decided to treat ourselves and ended up ordering a speciality pizza to go, which was loaded with cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. I mean, this was LOADED. I picked up the box and I couldn't believe how heavy pizza could be. Not only was it filling but it was deliciously made (great crust and generous amount of toppings). Would give this 4/5. This place was recommended by a local and it was great. The access off the snowmobile trail was great as was the food and service. Not sure what people are talking about the rude owner. Derrick was very hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed talking to him and the other patrons. We ordered the pulled brisket tacos the first night with a side salad. The tacos were large enough for us to share and the salad was large and fresh. We went back a second night and had the fire burger which was also excellent. We ordered it medium and it was juicy and perfect. Would definitely come back. read more

This is a standout place just a stones throw from the middle of nowhere. It looks like a typical sports bar, but it's much more. The staff is friendly and the patrons are all having fun. I food was good. Not great, but good. The view of the lake across the road is spectacular. Get outside if you can. If you find yourself inside, you definitely have to take a spin on the wheel of fortune on the ceiling above the bar. Bring some money, a swimsuit and a designated driver. This is a great local stop! Traditional bar food done well. We had chicken tenders, cod witch sandwich, bacon burger deluxe and steak burger. All tasted great! Just an ok spot and convenient when boating as you don't have a lot of choices. However, could be so much more with a little more attention to food quality and server attitudes. Wish it would live up to its potential and focus again on better food choices and quality. My family has a lakehouse up on Burt Lake, and we've been coming to Breakers via boat for years. We were just up there in July 2013 and I brought my 7-lb, well-behaved Morkie pup (who loves the boat!). We ate out on the patio and had a great experience. We were back up in northern MI for Labor Day weekend 2013, and my fam decided to take a long boat ride. We were originally going to go across the Crooked River and go to Bob's place (another long-time favorite), but we decided to go to Breakers instead since we could bring the pup along. After a 1 1/2 hr boat ride, we got to the Breakers and sat down with our menus outside on the patio. A random waitress came over and said that dogs weren't allowed on the patio. I told her that we had just been there a couple of months ago with the pup and no one said a thing. She said she would check with a manager. The manager came out and said that they could not serve us because of the 7-lb pup lying quietly under the table. Now, I understand that some restaurants do not allow dogs, which is totally acceptable. However, you cannot "change the rule" and have no signs up! My grandparents had been to Breakers several times from July to September, and had they noticed a sign, we would have known that dogs were no longer allowed. However, there were no signs. On top of that, there was only one other party besides us out on the patio. They could have very easily put us at the very end of the patio, taken our names, and told us that the rule has changed and next time we can't bring her. Totally understandable. But no, they turned down our business. Now my 75-year old grandfather was quite offended that they would not serve us. He has been bringing the entire extended family to the Breakers for years. Due to this treatment, no one in the family will be back. Again, if you're going to change the rules, have a sign out. And make exceptions for loyal customers who were not informed of the new rule- it's just good business sense!!! read more

Go there to drink only Draft beer selection is great. Menu is very limited, overpriced, and just bad. Example chili cheese fries was the recommendation for best app from our waiter. They were simply some fries with a scoop of canned Hormel chili and cheese. Wings were the SMALLEST wings I've ever seen. We are talking pigeon sized. Tasted okay but at over $1 each is was a rip off. We stop here at least once a year by boat. They used to do a good nacho but have since day dropped it from menu. Outdoor area is okay, nice lake view across the street. If traffic is bad it is not enjoyable but usually it is not. Service has always been good, beer cold but food bad and overpriced read more

Good spot in toppinibee. They have a nice outside area and even though the place is rumored to be older the inside would never show that. They have a pull up dock for boaters and a pretty big lot for everyone else. However the lot fills up around happy hour so be sure to get there in time or come later. Food was pretty decent and they have some good beer selections. My wife asked for a fruity cocktail and they had no clue what she was taking about so definitely a beer kind of joint. I also hear it's a great spot for snowmobilers since it is right on the trail. With not many options around it's nice to see that they care and aren't a dive bar. We will be back when we're in mullet. read more

I eat here whenever in the Indian River area (which is often). Breakers has a great vibe to it. Addition of upper level deck makes for scenic outdoor dining in the summer months. Burgers are excellent as other reviewers have noted. All the food is prepared nicely with flavorful seasoning. Nothing bland here. Live music often, but i am usually not out that late.:) read more

Stopped in for dinner with husband. Staff very friendly. I ordered build your own burger and my husband ordered the steak philly wrap. Both were a disappointment. Could not taste toppings on burger due to burnt patty. Husband's wrap was bland and had to add salt. The flies in the restaurant were gross. read more

I always forget about this gem because I am always working during the hours they are open, but i finally was able to get back tonight and am still not disappointed. The food is standard bar fare with nothing special about it. If everything else was average I would rate 3 stars but this place has a lot working for it. The bar is excellent and the beer selection is the best in the area. In addition, the service is above average and the locatw is fantastic. During the summer months you can sit on the patio and look out at the lake. The restaurant is big enough to handle busy times and can usually accomodate decent size groups. The bar area is also a good place to catch a football game in the fall due to the many tv's and good sight lines. Considering the location, bar, and service, I give Breakers 4 stars. read more

The perch were truly awful. Tasted like they came directly from the freezer to the fryer. Four people at our table ordered the perch and no one even thought of finishing their meal. I tried a 2nd piece of the 7 on my plate just to make sure it wasn't just one bad piece of fish. The perch were chewy and tasted terrible. Great location across the street from Mullett Lake. Has a log cabin/tavern feel to it, with plenty of TVs and space. There's a stage for live music as well. As for the food, I had the Philly pita which was really good, kind of sloppy but it was a reasonable amount of chicken with lots of onions and a few soggy green peppers. Also, I tried the boneless wings with the turbo sauce, which is the hottest sauce they have. It was SUPER spicy!!!! (And I'm not a rookie when it comes to hot wings.) I chose not to finish them. Excellent olive burger (a tradition up north) and seasoned fries. The turkey avocado panini is great, too. Someone in my group who likes her food hot (spicy) got the fire burger (I forget the exact name) and was sweating and tearing up over it. The only knock on this place was the service or kitchen ... not sure which, but my burger order was initially missed. My salad made it out with everyone else's food, but my burger was nowhere to be found. The waitress realized it right away and notified the kitchen. Great Friday night fish fry and also came as all-you-can-eat. As a fryaholic, the fries were amazing and i'll need to stop in for more before I leave back home. The look of Breaker's has changed a lot since I was a kid, becoming more of a restaurant than a bar. I just hope it keeps the same attitude and feeling as a place of welcome for the locals as it does for tourists like I have always remembered it. OK- honest review- not a family member or a friend- if you like ribs you have got to try Breakers'. Had them this last Saturday night- about as good as I've had anywhere. My wife, who is not a ribs person even said how great they were.... staff is always friendly... good spot to watch a ball game on the many big screens.... read more
