I had the boat over there by about 10;00 AM. Neko (not sure of the spelling) installed it in about 4 hours, which was less than quoted. Upon the return to my Marina this afternoon I had a chance to test it. WOW, this is a total game changer. I now can maneuver the boat easily. Thanks so much to Patrick and Neko for a job well done!

You'll also likely be the only person on the beach if you do decide to go. There's a big shallow area for wading and playing around, and one of the residents nearby set up a floating ladder and slide you can probably use w/o them noticing. Harbormaster and staff helpers are efficient and courteous. Restroom/showers are always wonderfully clean, and the facility boasts a nice laundry facility with two large washers and four dryers. Facility has very good security, and they do a good job of keeping any riff-raff away. There are a couple excellent restaurants (Doc's, Harbor House) literally steps away if you don't feel like eating onboard. THE THORNS: No big slips, so if your yacht is over 45', you may be out of luck. THE VERDICT: Honestly, this facility is about as good as it gets. Transient moorage rates are a titch steep, but for what you're getting, it's a good value. Recommend!

I received notice from the marina office that "all of our fenders were failing and in need of replacement." Actually, one fender was under-inflated. When our boat became dirty, as happens over the winter, the marina asked us to use their preferred yacht detailing company - that company was impossible to get a hold of via phone; basically a sign-up now and cancel later company which, according to their website would have cost more than $1000. A simple hose and scrub brush took care of it. It's a noisy marina and water is rough due to ferry and other traffic.

The docks are new and in great condition. The facilities are well-maintained. There are usually volunteer dock helpers around to answer questions who are very nice. The dock features multiple free pump out stations. There is also a superb boat ramp and ample short-term dock space to park your boat while your parking your truck/trailer. Overnight moorage fees are very reasonable (50 cents/foot, $5 a day for power [30 and 50 amp]. There is a pay station that takes credit cards, so you don't have to fumble around for cash. The City Dock is a short walk away from downtown Bainbridge, which is to Seattle what Marin County is to San Franscisco: bursting to the seams with twee boutiques and expensive eateries. THE THORNS: The electrical power situation is frustrating. We couldn't get power because the main breaker was constantly tripping. I was told by one of the dock volunteers that their system was very unstable and had been giving them fits; fortunately we have a big house battery bank and a genset. It is also important to note that this marina is NOT secure; anyone can wander around at any time of the day or night. I wouldn't be concerned about this except for the presence of a really sketchy vagrant wandering around the area. Fortunately the dock volunteers are good about interacting with the folks and figuring out who belongs and who doesn't. Still, don't leave your $800 Steiner binoculars or iPad laying around for people to see. ROSE OR THORN, DEPENDING ON YOUR SITUATION: Bainbridge City Dock only allows a maximum of two nights moorage. On the plus side, this ensures lots of dock space turnover and no 'campers'. On the other hand, if you are looking to stay in the area for more than a couple of days, you'll have to alternate time on the City Dock with anchoring out in the harbor or looking for transient moorage at the much more expensive (but well-maintained and secure) Winslow Wharf Marina. THE VERDICT: Good facility in a protected harbor that offers short-term moorage at a giveaway price. Don't be in a position where you NEED power, though; you might not get it.

We put a deposit on a slip a few days ago. We were then given a copy of the rules and regs to read…read moreover. That is when I realized we would NOT be able to live up to the "no more than 14 nonconsecutive days on your boat" stipulation. We spend a lot of time on our boat especially in the summer so that would not have worked for us. Plus a substantial fine if not adhered to. I emailed the manager, Sheila, WITHIN 48 hours that we would have to cancel for that reason, only to find out our $560 deposit would not be refunded!!! Not even in part! I emailed her back stating that NOWHERE was this posted or made known which Sheila never even bothered to respond to. This is a policy most businesses adhere to as a common curtesy to customers. But not Shyster Sheila at the TYEE!!! And the marina is not even that nice...for sure. Barely adequate is about it with no shore facilities to offer.
