Tuna melt was decent, relish and onions in the tuna (a little mustard and chopped eggs would have kicked it up a bit more), and bread was a little soggy. Local Diner Vibes. Went here for brunch and it was pretty good. The staff are young "fondren-like" people. They have plenty of seating and a bar located in the back that opens from 5pm - 2am. I had the chicken and waffles with a mimosa. Even though it took a long time to come out, the chicken was delicious and waffles were a little hard but I did ask for crunchy waffles so that's my bad. We came for the kitschy factor and we got that plus a clean 50's feel. The food was just okay and not awesome except for the onion rings which were sliced and fried just right. Hubby's burger was more than well done but he ate the really dried up disk anyway. He figured there was no sense in complaining as he wasn't sure of what the rules were in this place for cooking meat. I got the Tuna melt. It was better than the burger but it had onions and relish along with the american cheese listed on the menu. No chopped eggs or celery so I suppose I have had better. The toast got soggy too. Finally since we were in a soda fountain shop we shared a root beer float which was again just meh. Come for the ambience and service but maybe just order the onion rings! Lol read more

The portion sizes are not huge but enough to leave you satisfied. We also shared a Cookie Monster ice cream dish which was also amazing! DJ was our server. As many of you may know, Brent's Drugs is referred to as one of the classic, must visit, food joints in Jackson Mississippi. I would like to share my adequate experience at this business. I read up somewhere that Brent's used to be a drug store, but then it eventually became a place for locals to get soda, candy and something good to eat. So I was very excited to try out their food. It's now called Brent's Soda Fountain - although the old Brent's Drugs was a scene for a movie known as The Help. I really had high expectations for this restaurant, and while the environment was absolutely stunning, I'm also very much interested in how the food will taste. I was very impressed with the friendly blue color used to decorate most of the restaurant. When you walk inside, you're immediately taken back to a different era, which is really neat for those with a big imagination. While I was very grateful for the service that I received, I was a bit disappointed in the cheeseburger that I had purchased that afternoon in Mississippi. The fries weren't anything special either. But what saved the day was the milkshake. It was so perfectly prepared and I can tell that a lot of love was out in the mixing. While I wouldn't get excited about the food, I would emplore you to go and visit this joint for the milkshake and historical experience. read more

This place took me back to 1955 as I stepped into the restaurant. I ordered strawberry milk shake which was really awesome, as I have never expected to be this good to be honest! Also Philly's cheese stale sandwiches and cheese burgers were really good! This place is a must when you are in town, and try their coffee at the end of the meal. By the looks of things, they may have just finished with a rush since most of the tables and booths had not be cleared away and cleaned from the previous customers. Our server was very nice and attentive, but the food was somewhat lackluster. The fries were soggy, but also had a sweet seasoning on them that just didn't work for me. Shakes and malts were spot-on, and my son said the apple pie with caramel and ice cream was amazing. We were in town moving our daughter into Millsaps College. Found this diamond in the rough. I love history and combing history with food is a win for me. We had the breakfast tacos with breakfast potatoes and my other daughter had the pancakes, side of bacon and eggs with a chocolate shake. Yes, a shake for breakfast and she was glad she did; she said it was very good. I heard about the secret speak easy room so of course I peeped through the door peep and it was there! Party of 4 and 2 got the chicken & waffles, of course the chicken was delicious as usual but the waffles were to soft & kinda mushy as if they'd been "lying in wait" my son enjoyed his burger but said it wasn't anything to brag about. Will I try the brunch again, Definitely if it's the same day will not get the chicken and waffles again but my favorite here is the Philly cheesesteaks which isn't sold during brunch) and before 2 (I think) during the week. My wife and I decided to have brunch at Brent's Drugs this morning. We were in town visiting our daughter, and love to try unique places. This place didn't disappoint, from the moment you walk in you are taken back to a 40's or 50's soda shop. It actually opened in 1946 as a Pharmacy and soda shop. Omg. This place has soooooooo gone downhill. Back in the day you could get no-frills treats at Brent's but no more. You will walk in and be lucky if the surly hostess seats you. "We close in 30 minutes, and you can't sit at the bar." Actually, we wouldn't have dreamed of it anyway; it was 4:30 PM and lunch plates still littered the dirty counter tops. The service is dismally slow. Half the time they bring you the wrong order. One time my friend ordered the lamb burger and it was so salty she couldn't eat it. Why does this place attempt to be high end retro when they can't even do basic retro? The grass fed burgers are dry, overcooked and on disgusting stale buns. The milkshakes are nothing to write home about. Sad. But I guess it lives on, for better or worse. read more
