From the moment we walked up, the vibe was pure vacation mode: bright umbrellas, good music, and that gorgeous waterfront view that makes you wanna stay all day. Appetizers: We went all in -- charbroiled oysters, raw oysters, gator bites, fried green tomatoes, spinach dip, and a side salad (not pictured because it didn't last long ). Every single bite was on point! The charbroiled oysters? Buttery, smoky perfection. Gator bites? Crispy outside, tender inside, and seasoned just right. Not a single miss here! Entrées: We covered the menu like pros -- fried platter, blackened platter, blackened alligator tacos, redfish, bang bang shrimp tacos, and a side of hushpuppies (because who skips hushpuppies?). EVERYTHING came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The bang bang shrimp tacos had that sweet heat you crave, and the blackened alligator tacos? Hands-down one of my faves of the night. Service + Atmosphere: The staff was friendly, professional, and fast, which made the whole experience even better. The timing was perfect -- no long waits, just smooth service and chill energy all around. And let's talk about that view! Sitting by the water watching the boats roll in while the sun set? 10/10 ambiance. Final Thoughts: I have no clue why this place is sitting at 3 1/2 stars, because our experience was solid 5 all day long. Food, drinks, view, staff -- everything hit. Shaggy's is that feel-good, toes-in-the-sand kinda spot that deserves more love. If you're thinking about going, GO. Order the oysters, grab a cocktail, and let the breeze do the rest. #seafoodlovers #gulfvibes, #worththedrive

This is my 2nd review of Backwater Grill because...well, frankly...I think they deserve it…read more Here is the thing about Mississippi: You buy your days on credit. You get these magical 73º days in March and April (and maybe even May), fully understanding you are going to have to pay the piper come June, July, and August. But while you have them, you treasure them. The sun shines bright, but with warm welcome, not a glaring intensity. The cool breeze carries the scent of red maples, azaleas, dogwood, redbud, Yoshino Cherry trees, and, sweetest of them all, honeysuckle. The sky is a tropical blue, like you might see sitting on some tropical island with a name you struggle to pronounce. So why would you spend a Saturday afternoon like this inside, when you can sit outside, looking at the backwaters, and enjoying a delicious meal? This is my 4th trip to Backwater. Lunch, brunch, dinner, and now lunch again. So far, they never disappoint. It is early in the crawfish season, so my expectations are not high, but Backwater delivered just the same. Their weight scales are generous and their seasoning is excellent. The shrimp? Well, they are normally my 2nd choice behind crawfish, but these reds are big and succulent and juicy. Some of the best I have had. The beer selection is excellent and served icy cold, which is a good thing, because the potatoes and corn will burn your lips (if you aren't "from here", that is a good thing). But if you don't indulge, no worries...the sweet tea would make your Mama proud. And the ambience? Well, what can I say? Perfect. I can't believe it has taken this long for somebody to make use of the beautiful backwaters of the Reservoir. It is prime "Mississippi" and the owners are genius and clearly willing to put in a massive amount of work and effort to make eating at Backwater Grill a true Mississippi experience. If you are in the area, or even if you have to drive to get here, do yourself a favor: visit Backwater Grill. Next visit, I'm trying trying a burger for sure.

We enjoyed watching the wildlife and chatting. Once seated, we waited over 10 minutes for a server to stop by and finally went inside to ask for someone to help our table. A manager came out to take our drink orders. The kids' sodas came out quickly, but we waited and waited for bar drinks and two Shirley Temples. Food came quickly once ordered, and the aforementioned drinks didn't come out until after the food was served. The drinks and food themselves were quite good. If the service had hit the same level, it would have been a better experience.

I was surprised at how tight it was in there. The photos I've seen always made it look like a bigger space than what it was. Despite the closeness of the tables to the booths, service was very good. My server (forgot to get her name) was attentive and checked on me numerous of times. I didn't like the Thursday blue plate specials so I ordered catfish. Went with fried okra and sweet potatoes as the sides. The star of my plate was the bowl of sweet potatoes. They appeared to be fresh cut and had the right amount of sweet to them. The fried okra had sprinkles of salt and were hot. I would mark them as being ok. Now the catfish. Well that was another missed opportunity. The fish breading was seasoned slightly but pulled away from the fish too easily. It literally broke off in whole pieces. My piece was fried a little too hard but I could have forgiven that if the fish meat had been seasoned. The salt that was sprinkled on the okra should have been sprinkled on the fish instead. I just did not care for the fish at all. The roll was good. I should have asked for some butter but it was fine without it. Reminds me of the old yeast rolls you would get back in the day. I love to support local spots but to say I was disappointed in my first visit is an understatement. Someone told me that dinner was better than lunch, so I'm going to try them for dinner before making my final verdict.

We were greeted shortly by our waiter Caden. Our waiter was extremely polite and very attentive. I can only speak in the items I personally tried the watermelon jalapeño margarita was a 7.5/10. There wasn't a strong watermelon flavor and there really wasn't a kick from the jalapeño. The bartender wasn't definitely not shy with the liquor but it wasn't over powering. The shrimp and crab ceviche was probably a 8/10 ( could've been a 9/10 but it had cucumbers in it). It had a tad bit too much lime juice or lime taste. The shrimp and crab dip was delicious! 9/10. Fresh chips as well. I really enjoyed the pickled red onion addition was really good. Overall Saltine has a great menu selection, warm and welcoming vibe.

That was delicious. Also got the lobster and crawfish dip ok and one can never go wrong with calamari which was also good. For dinner, I had the salmon and grits and kale. It was ok because not quite what I was expecting - I was expecting spicy and it was too sweet for me but might be my fault for not fully reading the description and being focused on the Cajun seared aspect of it. It was still good though. Nothing superb but filling and loved the crunchy kale on top. Really liked that they were open on a Monday and they were fast. At one point, too fast because one of my co- diner's dinner came too soon while still eating their salad. For dessert, we got the cinnamon roll cheesecake and shared it. I only had one bite because it was too rich for me but it was very tasty and good. Unfortunately, we didn't get the oysters which is THE item to get here but it was otherwise a good visit.
