After explaining my purpose for the visit again, the staff told me I needed to complete paperwork first. I walked out and felt sad for the animals in their care; if they treat humans with such rudeness, I could only imagine how they treat the animals hoping to be homed. Having grown up around dogs large and small all my life and having extensive experience in the handling and training of such dogs (having worked at places such as CAMP BOW WOW, where I sometimes oversaw 30 large dogs in a yard at once), I was beyond excited to take a second dog, Frank, into my home Frank has been at the Beaver County Humane Society since 2024. An older male, I felt he would be an excellent match for my current Emotional Support Animal, Poppette (also a Pit Mix). Were it not for the abysmal handling of the adoption process, Frank would be home with me today. After an extended wait at the front desk, I finally got my interview with Frank. Frank was loving and open with me. The adoption fees were reviewed with me, and I confirmed the information I provided on my application and that I could cover all fees. At this point, it was conveyed to me that I needed to bring my current dog in to interview with Frank. This had not come up until now, but, sincerely wishing to give this dog a good home, I agreed to return in an hour with my ESA so she and Frank could meet. Poppette and Frank had a successful playtime in the yard. There were minor scuffles, as to be expected. It troubled me how quick the two staff were to get nervous at these scuffles and extremely bothered me that they implied my dog, Poppette, had an attitude and was solely responsible for them, but once I calmed the staff down they were able to resume a professional demeanor and see that these dogs indeed were a match. We even discussed and agreed on the best way to walk the two dogs out to the car so I could take them both home together today. I then handed over my ID, got an adoption picture taken with Frank, and went inside to complete the process. Suddenly, I was no longer adopting Frank. I was fostering him. And I needed to bring him back May 10. . . . okay. No problem. I then signed the fostering forms and was informed, by the way, Frank takes medication. Has no one told me this? . . . no, but again, given my extensive experience with dogs and animals, no problem. Then it came time to put Frank in the car with Poppette. The two staff who were in the yard with Poppette and Frank again lost their professionalism and freaked out at the minor scuffle that occurred when both dogs were in the car at first. Pop growled. Frank hopped out of the car. The staff then insisted I take Pop home and come back if I wanted to adopted Frank - so another hour out of my day. I said no, minor scuffles are to be expected - as it even says on the Beaver County Humane Society adoption paperwork (which was given and then taken away from me). Puzzled by their incompetence as to dog behavior, I asked them to calm down and let the dogs work it out. Both dogs resumed their calm demeanor outside of the car. Far from being intimidated by Poppette (who is 45 pounds to Frank's 70), Frank approached the car several times of his own volition. The next time both dogs were in the car, the moment Pop made a sound, Poppette was taken away from me and Frank was also forcibly removed from the situation. Again, this was a minor noise, not at all indicative of any safety issue to either dog. After this, the two staff, still unaccountably nervous, INSISTED I take Pop home and then come back for Frank. None of which was agreed upon before I provided all of my information and signed on to be Frank's Foster Mom. Or made two trips today already to facilitate the fostering of this dog. When I calmly expressed that they were being unreasonable, one staff went and got a manager. The manager came out dead set to not hear me. I explained anyway, that her staff was (almost purposefully) misinterpreting dog behavior. She doubled down that the Humane Society had not mishandled this process in any way, and I would have to make the additional trip if I wished to adopt - no, foster - this dog. Stunned by this point, I pointed out that, during this process, her staff had removed my Emotional Support Animal from me, which is illegal. Did she still stand by how this process was handled? She said she did, and that I would now be on the DO NOT ADOPT list. Who will adopt Frank, a 10-year-old (or is it 7? his file says both) now? I am uniquely qualified to handle him and was more than willing and forgiving towards this entire process. I request a formal apology from this organization, including the manager herself. As I highly doubt Frank will be adopted in the meantime, given his unique needs, I further request all adoption and vet fees for Frank be covered hereafter, once he is formally signed over to my care. I volunteer here and they are the kindest nicest people I have met they all care for the animals like one big family. the animals I have met have really made my life a different life. The staff is really helpful, kind, and informative. and I strongly recommend to adopt, volunteer, or make a donation here. read more

Currently you have to schedule an appointment but I did rescue another dog from here but 4 days later had to return it. He was not getting along with my dog, Ava the puggle. Super nice people, and I made a cash donation of $200 and about $300 in donation of cat supplies since I put down my cat. When you are there it just tears you up how cruel humans can be... to leave a animal behind, abuse and or neglect. I do my part in donations and rescue, will you? If I ever won the Powerball or Mega Millions, at least 30% WOULD GO TO ANIMAL SHELTERS, and thats a promise I made to God my Father. read more

They let my stepmom and boyfriend adopt three cats total between the two of them that we had to watch die within 6 weeks of adoption. The first one was adopted in June 2024 and she didn't make it to July. Sge was rushed to the emergency vet for breathing issues because the humane society wouldnt see her unless we did everything possible to see anyone else first, even though we hadn't even had her 48 hours. These animal experts saw zero signs of health concern, and we figured things out very quickly having had owned cats our entire lives. Tell me what is humane about this place. Memphis was given periodontal surgery and his owner was emphatically told this was his only issue. And that he does a cute floppy thing on the ground. That flopping thing wasn't cute- it was him not being able to stand and balance on his own!!! He has severe neurological issues, and i find it hard to believe the humane society didnt know since they were grugging him and he was doing better there. When brought home, without the drugs , he declined immediately. He didnt last 6 weeks. And when they call to see about his behavior, don't tell them they sold you a dying cat or they'll give you attitude and say "well i was just calling about his behavior"- we told you his behavior, he's dying. Thanks a lot for the transparency and caring so much about animals that you let him suffer and let us be traumatized to never trust you again. Try to erase this comment :) i see you don't care about people, animals, or anyone's experience but your own. Maybe you'll do better. But i know your day hasn't been as bad as ours. read more

The humane society offers a lot of programs and they're very helpful I go once in line or occasionly to receive help with dog food and they are just the most friendliest people in the world they take donations to try to do donate when I can because I do use they programs in the whole staff is just truly amazing I'm very thankful for them read more

Please be cautious if you go to the Beaver County Humane Society they were not honest with me about the kittens medical condition upper respiratory problems that they did not tell me about. Alicia was the court that waited on me I believe and she was not honest about the condition of the cat especially that it had previous problems that could come back we went through the paperwork and should they claim that it was there and it probably was but she never mentioned it and I didn't see it until it was too late so beware of the Beaver County Humane Society make sure they tell you the whole truth if you decide to go there or you might end up with a sick pet also thank you God bless read more

I lost the best thing in my life when my little dog got fungus in her lungs and past away. I was having a hard time going on - until I saw a video of a APBT on the Beaver County Humane Society's web site, and I knew he was mine. She had only passed hours before I left for the BCHS and I had not slept at all - I was a mess when I walked in there. I hadn't showered, I still had a PJ top on, and I must have looked crazy. But they believed in me, and I left with this HUGE, energetic dog who has become my life. Somehow they knew that we were supposed to be together. Since that time in March of 2019 I have gotten to know the loving people that work and volunteer there. They are GOOD people, their hearts are huge. I have never met so many honestly decent human beings in one place before. They want what is best for the animals that they are saving, and they save many. The dog that eventually became mine ran the streets of Monaca for months before being coaxed into a car by a loving volunteer. Then volunteers worked with this hyper active dog untiringly for six months before I got him - and he is big, extremely strong and a handful. He would have terrified most people - but not them. They saw his heart. They kept him alive when he would have undoubtedly been put down in many other places. They loved him because they saw that he was an amazing dog. Working with Gomez, who became my Rafferty was a huge commitment. But they all rose tot he occasion. And those committed, big hearted people will have my respect and love always - because they kept Rafferty for me until we met - and he is the best dog in this world. ASIDE: And for those people posting about declawing cats - do you understand that they are not just taking off the claw - they take off the entire end of the cat's finger? They cut off the finger to the first knuckle - as far back as the claw grows inside the finger. I just thought you should know. read more

The Beaver County Humane Society is one that goes above and beyond for its animals. You can tell the passion of each volunteer and vet. Over the past several years, this is a place I frequently visited to donate supplies, as well as their thrift store in Beaver Falls. Several months ago, during Covid-19, my boyfriend and I decided that we were finally able to fully provide for a sweet fur baby of our own. We had looked at several cats previously on their website, most of which had been adopted or fostered. Despite this, we went to just see who really called out to us. I told them what we were looking for -- a cat that would be a good emotional support animal for myself. They brought two cats, one male and one female, individually out into a small room, again due to Covid-19. The first cat was beautiful, an older female that was all over us. The second, however, we fell in love instantly. It was love at first sight. He was a little weird, all white, and curious. Perfect for our little family. Since my boyfriend and I are about 20, we wanted a cat that would share our energy and curiosity. Herbie (now Dipstick) was exactly what we needed, and I believe he needed us as well. The Beaver County Humane Society provided us with friendly service, great passion, and a beautiful boy to take on walks, go camping with, and just share our undying love with. If you're near this area or are looking for your furry soulmate(s) BCHS is highly recommended. read more

Would give a worse rating if i could. I have been fostering kittens and anytime i come here i wait at least an hour to an hr and a half. I haven't met a single staff member that isn't incompetent. I hate to talk shit but this is easily the worst established businesses i have been to. if possible i would go absolutely anywhere but here. i leave incredibly frustrated anytime i come in. My mother wanted to adopt a cat, and was looking for a nice place to adopt one from and bring it to a nice home. She looked online and found a cat that was located at this center, so I decided to go here with her and take time out of the day to drive up. We walked in and asked if the cat was still there, we were told that the cat was already being adopted even though it stated on the website it was not. They told us the reason was, when a cat had adoption paperwork filled out, it isn't stated on the website it is adopted until the adopters take it home. They should state on the website that someone is thinking of adopting it. So, after we found that out we looked at the other cats. After that day of filling out adoption paperwork *just to see the cats*, and seeing them in the main room, we left. The next day, my mother wanted to drive back up again and see if there were any cats available that she would like to adopt. She called up the center and asked the ordinary question, "Am I allowed to declaw a cat I would adopt?" and the woman on the phone said, "You are, but we discourage it." So we drove back up to the center. The moment we walked up to the main desk, the woman there stated, "You are not allowed to take a cat if you want to declaw it." With an attitude, which is a complete lie. This brought my mother to tears when she learned the woman was looking through the computer for an already declawed cat, she told me, "They made me feel like I am a bad person." Nothing was done wrong, nothing was said that was bad to the staff or anything. This is how she was treated for just wanting to adopt a cat and give it a very nice home. So, they finally let us see this adorable kitten. My mom held it and loved it, and the woman told us "You can put a hold on the cat and think about it." So we said we would think about adopting the kitten and left. The nexy.t morning my mother got a phone call early in the morning from the center, "Sorry, you are not eligible to adopy and cats from this center anymore." It was THE WORST experience my mother and I have *ever* had going to the humane society to try to give an animal a nice home. The staff gave my mom the run-around more than once, the staff was rude, they lied as well about declawing. They made my mom, one of the most caring people in the world when it comes to cats as if she was a very horrible person, and for no reason. It was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. I actually walked out of the office at one point. As long as I live, I don't know if I will EVER go back to that center to adopt an animal or recommend it if at all to anyone I know that is looking to adopt. It was downright awful. read more

I'd give this place a zero if I could. My mother and I headed to this place because the posting for the dog JUNO A031655 was on. Their website. We tried calling and no one answers the phone. My mom was looking for a small dog and JUNO was put on hold because someone walked in door before us and wanted to think about it and had to bring their dog with them and this humane society was willing to put the dog on hold until 4 pm instead of adopting to my mom who had no dog and was ready to adopt. I'm totally disgusted with this place. This dog should have went to her. If I ever went to a shelter or humane society in my past I'd have to have my dog(s) along with me and if I didn't I was NOT ALLOWED TO PUT IT ON HOLD. Beaver Humane should take down any dog on website when they put on hold for some dumb reason like this. read more

I have adopted some exceptional friends from this shelter. The volunteers here are top-notch! If you have a question, they are always eager to assist. They offer spay/neuter services as well as other health services for your pets. They also have a thrift shop (located in Beaver Falls) that helps raise funds for the shelter. read more

I am a petsitter who found myself in an extreme situation where 55 rabbits and bunnies, 3 dogs, 2 guinea pigs and 1 cat were being severely neglected and abused in a home not fit for humans or animals to live. Both the Beaver County Humane Society Officer, Mary Sparks, and two Brighton Township Police Officers met me on site and went above and beyond to ensure these animals will be removed and rescued from these abusers. I cannot thank them enough for their support and responsiveness to this urgent situation where two bunnies died and the other animals are ill per neglect and abuse. PLEASE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DONATE MONEY, OR GIVE ONE OR TWO OF THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS A HOME, PLEASE DO. The 3 dogs are very loving and need kind safe homes, as well as these 55 rabbits and bunnies. I adopted my dog from here about five years ago and they were very helpful. Their adoptions prices are very reasonable and they include the spay/neuter. They will be moving to their new location on Brodhead which I think will be a huge improvement and I wish them the best of luck. They also have a paper retriever on their site which I always dump my recycled paper in so that the money that they make will go toward the shelter! read more

I was in the Beaver County Humane Society 1st time being last August 2016 and at that time I really wanted to adopt a kitten. I had asked about one in particular, and was told to go to the cat room. Didn't know where it was and asked again and was then pointed to the room, just walked around till I found it. When I saw a kitten that I wanted to see they told me to fill out the paperwork which I had no problem doing but when they entered the info into the computer they had some how found out that I had declawed all my cats. The girl then told me that she couldn't let me have a kitten or cat because I would have to take an older cat that was declawed. I explained that I had 2 cats that were 8 years old and a kitten would be better than an older one and again asked if I could see the kitten, I was told absolutely not, I was so upset, after all it's not like this is my 1st cat. All my life I've had cat's and dog's and they are all indoor pets, there is no one that takes better care of their pet's than I do. I was so upset that I went home and called my VET, they told me that I am not the only one having problems with these people, to go into Ohio to adopt. I then searched till I got their Director's phone # and called her, she told me that she was very sorry and that it is not policy to refuse a kitten to someone because they are going to declaw the kitten. She would certainly look into this for me, and talk to some people and get back to me. Well, she did call me back and talked to me and asked me to give them a 2nd chance, I had asked her if anything was in the computer that would make me look bad and she said that she had checked and there was not. Well, for a long time I did not want to go back there and finally I had my grandson with me today and he wanted to go look at the kittens and cats. When I asked if I could see one, I was again told to fill out the paperwork which I had no problem with. When I handed the paperwork to the girl, that could of been my daughter, she looked me up in the computer and looked at me and said that there was a note in the computer not to let me adopt any of their cat's because I would declaw and that was against their rules. I looked at her and she said "I don't believe in declawing and I think that you are hilarious that you think that you can declaw a cat", I said to her "You are calling me a joke", she said no and repeated what she had said in front of everyone there. I told her that she could be my daughter and she was very disrespectful, she said that she was an adult and could say anything that she wanted to me and if I didn't like it the door was right behine me and I could leave. I told her that I wanted to talk to her boss, that I knew that it was not a rule of BCHS to not allow a person to adopt a cat because they might declaw the cat. Her boss came out and said the same thing that she had said, I then told her that I had spoken with their boss Susan Salyards twice in August and she told me that they were not allowed to say what they said and assured me that if I would give them another chance, this wouldn't happen again.I asked to talk to her and the said that she left for the day, I then told them to call her her on the phone, and she did for about 10 minutes while I waited. My grandson kept asking me if he could see the kitty and I told him NO HONEY they won't let us look at jim, he is 5 years old and didn't understand, all he kept saying is they are really rude grandma. When the girl got back from the phone she said that I needed to fill out another piece of paperwork and acted like they were going to let me adopt, but told me that I was rude to them, which is what I am sure she told Susan Salyard. I just looked at her and told her to forget it and that I would be in touch with their Director again. But now I am thinking about taking this to the News. From what I understand from my VET I'm not the only one that has been treated really badly at BCHS. read more
