    Large breve latte
    Tia P.

I used to love coming here. However this is the third time I've been here and am disappointed. This large breve latte is $6.40 and they don't fill the cup up. They're friendly and the location is cute but I'm not paying almost $7.00 to not get a full cup of coffee! They kicked up the prices and are giving less coffee. I'm going to have to start getting my coffee fix somewhere else.

I like to treat myself to some good coffee and food from time to time and this place does the job. They have an great selection of pastries not to mention sandwiches and salads in addition to their yummy coffee. My fave at the moment is the almond kiss iced coffee with any of the non dairy creamers they have available. I've also been ordering the veggie works cream cheese, capers, cucumbers and red onion on a cheddar chive biscuit... so good. But gotta get their early the biscuits are quite popular. I've also had it on their poser bagel which is filling!

I've been to other brouhahas and the coffee is amazing. If I was basing it just on the coffee I would probably give a five star. However, I'm basing this on their policy. It's 80° out and I have my toy poodle with me. Hypoallergenic non-shedding in a carrier. All I wanted was a Cortado to go I literally could've ordered it in the time she told me no dogs allowed. So due to their no dogs allowed can't get anything to go policy I'm writing them a one star. In Florida dogs are allowed everywhere grocery stores coffee shops you name it and they have no more disease there than they have here in Wilmington Delaware. It's not like the dog was walking on the floor. They need to update their animal policy. Absolutely absurd. I probably have more germs on my shoes walking in and out and a dog in a carrier.

Coffee was very good. Food was bad. The avocado toast was a single small loaf of bread with guacamole and it was not even toasted. If food is on the menu, then at least make the effort. Although not part of the review, theres no dine in experience when all restaurants are already open.

Overall, I would go back (lots of things on the menu I would love to try) but there are some considerations that might make it lower on my list: --It's a tiny place, like 16 seats --If they're full, you will be uncomfortably close to other diners --The hash browns are something else entirely...it's like someone filled a sheet pan full of potato latke ingredients, pressed it and made it dense, cut it into 1x1x5 inch sticks, and then deep fried it to a burnt brown (wtf!). It tasted like a latke crossed with a hush puppy. Also be aware that it's walk-in only and you pay when you order (so you have no way to express your dissatisfaction with the so-called hash browns). It's street parking in a residential neighborhood but I luckily got a great spot. Obviously this review got a little snarky. So let me repeat that I was happy with my food and think the menu is great. I only deducted one star!

Keep going to the stop sign. When you're at the stop sign look across the street to the left and they're right there. I got lucky and found street parking right in front of their door. Walked in and they were packed. One tiny table open squashed between two others and the bar were my options so I sat at the bar. I try to pay cash at Mom & Pops place so they're not hammered by the credit card fees. They were low on change and recommending credit cards. I dug around in my pockets and found exact change. They were all out of pastries but one. I wanted to try their pasties de nada but all that was left was a croissant so I ordered it, along with their French toast and an oatmilk cappuccino. Turns out the croissant was already purchased by another patron who was going to have it after their meal. It hadn't been served yet. I received a refund. A couple showed up and sat at the bar as all the tables were full. Then someone else showed up and pointed at the seat I had my coat on saying they were told to sit there as it was the last seat open in the entire place. Packed. The French toast came out in good time but somehow my cappuccino got lost in the mix. It was immediately made and brought out. The French toast is as good as everyone says it is. Light, well filled, great flavor without being too sweet. I was trying to eat it all but had to stop 3/4 of the way as somehow it's filling. The cappuccino is also very good. I made the mistake of wanting to try them out at 11:45 on a holiday. 100% my bad. Considering there are only 3 people working the entire establishment, they did a great job. The food and drink were totally worth it and I will be back (at a less busy time)! *Quick add: I usually don't post while in the establishment but did here. Even with it being busy the owner came by to talk about the review and share a little about their business. They do evening events, private dinners. They also host guest chefs. Their goal is to elevate dishes, which is exactly what they did to the French toast. Based on this one breakfast I would definitely consider them for any function I was hosting in the area.

The space is very bright with gold and color everywhere on a bright little corner in Claymont and has good parking in front and around back. But what is really exciting is that when you step through the door and walk to the counter, you see how interesting the menu on offer really is. I had every intention of having a breakfast sandwich or bagel, but once I saw the whole menu and saw that I could order a noodle bowl for breakfast, the game had changed. I also ordered a delicious cappuccino which was extremely hot, almost too hot, but was very espresso forward and perfect for the morning. However, the two bagels we ordered, one for my wife and one for my youngest daughter, despite being delicious, had barely any cream cheese on them at all. The noodle bowl and rice bowl that we got were also tasty but there was nothing exceptional about them or to make them stand out other than my initial excitement that I could order noodles for breakfast. Everything was made by hand and done right then and there and fairly quickly and everything was very fresh as well as everyone that we interacted with being very helpful and upbeat when we ordered. I even asked about getting one of their very fun shirts they have available. If you happen to be passing on 495, a quick two minute drive off the exit will get you here and it's worth it rather than heading to some chain. Hop on by and enjoy a delicious coffee and possibly some noodles for breakfast if that's your thing like it is mine!

The vibe is light and airy, and the service is always friendly. I especially appreciate their rotating drink specials and options for non-coffee drinks, like a matcha. Also shoutout to the scones from OsoSweet bakery across Baltimore Pike--they go so well with a coffee and are huge and tasty. Chadds Ford Coffee House is what a chain like Starbucks aspires to be: local, cozy, and artisanal. Good music playing loud enough that you can hear it, but not so loud that you can't have a good conversation. There is wifi and a good amount of seating, including stools for solo diners who might want to open a laptop and send a few emails while eating the aforementioned giant scone. It's also easy to get takeout service, but I'd say it's worth spending a few minutes here to really savor your food and drink.

I love to switch it up and try new places, and this was no exception, and I did get to enjoy not only a good macchiato, but also a lovely, light and fluffy croissant. However, based on the vibe when I walked inside, I had expected a step above from what I actually experienced. This is NOT to say that anything is wrong with this place; it is cute, the staff is extremely nice, and their coffee is good, just good. But there is nothing here that takes it up a notch to make them anything memorable or more than just another coffee stop on the road of many potential head turning exquisite coffee paradises. I was very excited when I asked about the macchiato, as they said they make them the traditional "correct" way, which is what I prefer. A very small, very potent and delicious amount of espresso, and I usually enjoy mine con panna which they were happy to oblige. While the espresso was pulled well and the drink was delicious, it did taste as if their roaster went just a bit too far, or they extracted just a bit too much. Not a big deal. However, at a place making this correctly, I would expect a damn good macchiato. The croissant was also tasty; buttery and flaky, and I am not sure if it was baked on site, but I feel like if it wasn't, they should consider doing just that, because that is what could elevate this to that next level and really make it a destination! All in all I was pleased with what I got and the price was reasonable for what we ordered. If I am in the area I will likely be returning to my favorite spot nearby that I frequent with reverence, and that is no fault of Chadds Ford Coffee House. But when coffee is needed and I'm around, if I can't go to where I normally would, this would be at the top of my list! Give them a shot if you travel route 1 through the area often and you may find you're new spot!
