Last October we celebrated our 20th anniversary so I planned a surprise trip to San Diego for us. Okay, so the surprise was really just for my husband, since I was planning it. We took a trip with Brew Hop last weekend and it was the BEST! I reserved the tour for my husband's birthday as a surprise and they were very helpful. Summer and Larz are very enthusiastic about beer, they are great company and it felt like we were riding around with our friends. It was a very personalized experience and one that we will never forget! Once we got into our fancy car they introduced the tour to my husband, we visited four breweries and San Diego Brewing Company was our favorite. We met the brewer Dean who was very excited about his work and took us on a short but very intriguing tour of his brewery. Then we sat with Summer, Larz and Dean for about an hour and chatted about all the different beers that he makes and the new ones that he is working on. We had never thought about beer in this way before and it was a very unique and fun experience! Of course everything is more fun when there is beer involved. San Diego has a great selection of breweries to meet the needs of any brew lover. The beers were full of flavor and covered the full spectrum from light to full of hops. Summer was very easy to work with to help me plan a bachelor party. Immediately, I was able to talk to her and give her the criteria that my group needed to work with and within minutes she helped me come up with an itinerary. Through a few months, as my headcount changed she was able to adjust to these changes. She doesn't lie when they say they can customize your tour to fit your vision. She helped take all my limitations and any doubts I had in the logistics and helped make it happen. The day we actually did the tour, it was a seamless 5 hour tour from pick up to drop off. We were a group of 11 dudes, and we had Tony as our tour guide. He is an excellent tour guide. He gets you all your drinks and listens to how the group responds, and makes sure to find the beers that you will like. He is also very knowledgeable of this beer stuff. We had previously booked with Five Star Tours and were treated horribly (see review) and I called Summer on a Friday evening to see if they had a space for 11 ladies the following day. This past weekend my fiance, his sister, her fiance and I all went out on an EPIC 4 brewery brew hop. Our tour was lead by Summer and she was a wonderful host/guide. We had a great time at every brewery, enjoyed meeting all the brewers and seeing the behind the scenes. We went to Lightening, Lost Abbey, Alesmith and Balastpoint. Lost Abbey was a little crowded for my tastes but they have both Port Brewing and their beer, so worth the madness. Absolutely outstanding. My wife and a couple of good friends went out this past Saturday with Lars to Stone, Lost Abbey/Port, and Alesmith breweries. It was one of the best tours ever. Lars was an outstanding guide and he made our trip interesting and enjoyable. He gave us a private tour at Lost Abbey that was an excellent way to get some additinal knowledge of how things work. Maybe more importantly, he's got connections at these places, so he got us hooked up with some of San Diego's best beers. Another great aspect of the tour was the set-up. Summer was super friendly over the phone and helped us to get the trip set up without a hitch. They picked us up on time and didn't rush us at any point. What can I say about Brew Hop? First, some perspective. I have used Brew Hop twice, once in March 2014 and again in March 2016. Both times I used Brew Hop it was for corporate events. The first time I used Brew hop was a flyer - we didn't know what to expect. The second I used Brew Hop, it was a must do. The first event ended up being the one "everyone talked about." The second event was the one everyone wished they were invited on. The value we receive from customer response is very important and I have spent close to $10,000 with Brew Hop. Second, Summer (the owner) and her staff are good with beer and good with people. These people know know beer. They are either avid connoisseurs or employed in the brewing industry. Even though they are deep into beer, they are not snobs and don't treat you like an idiot when you don't know the difference between Wit and a Stout. They are great at listening to your (or in my case, my customers') feedback and recommending things they think you might enjoy and recommending a progression of beers at each of your stops to maximize your enjoyment. Third, Summer cares about the details (and she has connections). I cannot count the email and phone calls we exchanged to get this event right. That's not to say there were issues, because there were not. Summer is just dedicated to making sure the event meets your expectations. We discussed brewery selection, caterers, transportation options, venue size, departure time. return time, mementos for the guests. etc to insure my guests would good time. Summer even got one of our stops to open early so that it would fit into my schedule. I wouldn't expect this for a group of two, but my point is the breweries know Summer and Brew Hop and that works to your advantage. Bottom line is my company's customers love this event. We struggle to replicate the customer repsonse when we host events at other venues (away from San Diego) It's the customer response, not solely my opinion that earns Brew Hop the 5 star rating. This is my first Yelp review, and have no intentions of making any others any time soon, but I promised that I would leave one and it really is very well deserved. If you're having any trepidations over the price, believe me when I say that this company is worth every cent. Even before I even booked anything, Summer went above and beyond with helping me plan the perfect tour. She listened to what my girlfriend and I liked, and was able to either recommend or steer us away from different breweries based on our preferences in taste. She was not only very knowledgeable in the ways of beer, but was also obviously well versed in the area which she showed by recommending we not go to a certain brewery on the day we were planning because of a Baseball game nearby that would overcrowd the place. Tony, our tour guide for the day, picked us up right from our motel which was a huge plus. The ride was a black Lincoln Navigator which was comfy, spacious, and in pristine condition. We ended up choosing to go to The Lost Abbey, Ballast Point, and Alesmith, which I won't go to in much detail in of themselves because these companies aren't reflections of the company that this review is about, but I will say that I still thoroughly enjoyed all three of them and they also get my recommendations. Regardless, Tony was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and did an excellent job of feeling like a good friend as he explained both the history of the breweries and the specifics of every beer we tried without ever becoming uninteresting. He even stopped at a Carl's Jr. at one point at my request. Great guy. Brew Hop obviously takes great pride in itself which shines through in the amazing service you'll receive from its knowledgeable and over the top friendly employees. I was a little concerned over the price at first myself but no other company that I researched gives the type of private and intimate tours that they do. I would definitely do it all over again and hope to have another amazing experience with them in the future. Keep up the great work guys. P.S. We had such a blast last weekend! It was a birthday present for my husband, and 2 of our friends went with us. Summer picked us up in the Lincoln Navigator, and we went to Firehouse and Ballast Point. 2.5 hours went by quite fast, but I think if we went to any more breweries, I might have been in trouble!! Most definitely breaking Rule #1, and having to make a new rule!! LOL!! We definitely will go again, maybe next time with more people. Sorry, this review is a bit late (life gets in the way sometimes...dang it). So I did a Beer Tour as a surprise for my boyfriends and my, first anniversary- last year. He isn't much for wine and we love ourselves some yummy beer. With our schedules we could only do the tour on a Monday and when I researched other companies they could cancel last minute if they couldn't get enough people to boo (I assume Monday isnt a big beer drinking day for most). So that would suck and only leave me scrambling at the last minute if it happened. So when I came upon Brew Hop I found out that I could book this trip for just the two of us and it would be confirmed! Well that sold me. So I booked with Summer and explained how we wanted to be picked up in OB but wanted to do tours of the North County Breweries. She said okay and helped with suggestions on which ones she could take us to. Then I booked it! And great thing it was confirmed...no need to worry about last minute cancellations. I even got a hospitality discount for working at a hotel. Yay! Summer showed up and surprised us both with beers to enjoy on the way to our first stop. Modern Times was brand new at that time and the cans didn't even have labels yet. So cool . I can make this review super long and tell you all about each great thing on our tour but again...life is busy so who has time to read all that. But Summer is so freaking knowledgeable on beer. That lady can answer any question. She also knows everyone at the breweries so it was great being with her- felt a bit like VIP. She would help with samples and learn what you liked to help with getting you more samples of what you liked. It was great. The only few tips: 1) Don't eat much beforehand or you will obviously feel too full during the trip. Bring snacks to enjoy. 2) Take a picture of your favorite drinks or find a way to record what you enjoyed. You may not remember later. I say overall be sure to book a Brew Tour. If I could give more stars I would!!! This tour company was a complete pleasure to work with. I decided to book a private tour for 2 for my boyfriends birthday. And boy were we spoiled!!!! From planning our tour to booking our hotel, Summer was a complete delight! Summer was very knowledgeable on the breweries in the area and was very attentive to the types of beers we liked. So picking between the over 70 different breweries was much easier with her assistance. She even hooked us up with a great deal on a hotel at the Gaslamp Marriot. She made everything so easy!!! Now on to the tour itself. Lars picked us at our hotel and was prepared with water and a birthday beer for the road! Lars was awesome. He was very accommodating and really paid attention to what we liked and didn't like. If there was a beer we were not a fan of, he would quickly take it from us and replace it with another one to try. And if we liked it...he made sure that cup was full! The one thing I noticed is at every brewery we went to, Lars knew the crew and they knew him. Therefore at every brewery we seemed to get perfect service. Lars even took us on the tours of the breweries himself. No staff needed so I assume that means they trust him! That only added to our experience. Not once were we bored or left to wander. He was there when we needed him and gave us some space when it was appropriate. Just a perfect tour!! On a side note, to prove how nice and professional this company is, I share this story. When Lars came to pick us up I thought I heard him say his name was Louise. So the entire day we called him Louise and he never corrected us once. It was not until we got back to the hotel that he mentioned his name was Lars. I felt like a ding bat but he was so nice about it! One more reason why I loved this company and this tour! My husband and I went on a Brew Hop tour yesterday and had the best time. Our guide, Summer, was so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating from the minute I first called to schedule the tour. We started out at Stone Brewery, which has a beautiful garden area out back, and had an amazing lunch (especially the local clams w/ pancetta and the roasted garlic cheddar soup, made w/ Stone Ruination IPA - yum), then went on a tour led by Matt (who was a great guide; really funny). After our tasting, Summer picked us up in a flashy black Navigator and took us to our next stop - Lost Abbey, just a few miles away. What a cool place - it's Stone's old brewery, and to be considered a "tasting room" rather than a "bar" under CA law, they don't have any chairs - but they do have a long counter, and some barrels w/ big grain bags on top that you can sit on if you like. They also have 2 bar cats lounging around. The Lost Abbey tour, led by Sage, was one of the most interesting ones I've been on, and since we were a little short for time, Summer brought us several of the religiously named Lost Abbey beers to sample along the way. I believe we tried Devotion, Judgment Day (made w/ caramelized raisins), Lost & Found, and Red Barn Ale (made w/ ginger, orange peel, black pepper and grains of paradise - something like Allspice) - they were all Belgian style beers and each one was amazing. My husband had mentioned to Summer that he had tried the Angel's Share ale the week before at a beer tasting at Wine Steals and that it was incredible - it's aged in a freshly emptied bourbon or brandy oak barrel for a year, and sold in a 750 ml wine-size bottle for $30-40/bottle. I love the story of the name, too - when whiskey is aged in oak barrels, a certain amount seeps into the oak and is lost for good - distillers in Kentucky refer to this as "the angels' share." This beer is never on the tasting menu, but Summer pulled some strings and somehow managed to get us each a taste - wow. We ended up buying two half bottles of the brandy-aged '09 ($15 each). If you want to try something totally different, I recommend getting a half bottle of the Angel Share to try, and I absolutely recommend the Brew Hop tour - thanks Summer! read more

So me and my girlfriend headed out to San Diego to get away for a few days, while there she surprised me with a brewery tour. At first I didnt know what to expect, but then realized this was the coolest thing ever. We did a two brewery private tour which was the perfect amount as anymore would have led me to consume far too many beers. This is a beer drinkers paradise. We choose to go to Ballast Point and the San Diego Brewing Company. Great beers at both places and we got to meet the brew masters as well. Our tour guide was fantastic and so was the transportation ( A Lincoln Navigator). Next time I'm back in town I plan to do it again, this time making sure to hit up Green Flash and Stone. I discovered Brewhop on Yelp just a day or two before spending a long weekend in San Diego. As a craft beer lover, I really wanted to sample some of the great beers and breweries in the San Diego area. I contacted Summer, and she was able to squeeze me in with a friend for a five hour tour my first day in San Diego. Unfortunately Alesmith was closed for renovations, but Summer took us to Lost Abbey/Port, Stone, and Greenflash. Summer has the perfect personality for her line of work. She's extremely outgoing and friendly, and spent the early part of our drive finding out what kinds of beers we liked and answering all of our initial questions. However, she also didn't dominate the conversation and just put on some music and let us relax for a bit as well. I can also tell you that you are unlikely to find anyone who knows as much about beer as Summer. She explained the entire brewing process in amazing detail, and could discuss all of the beers and each of the breweries probably better than the people working there. In fact, usually when she was speaking, there was someone from the brewery nearby just nodding their head in agreement. She also knew the brewers and we were able to really get a phenomenal personal tour of the new Greenflash brewery. At the end of the tour, I even got a 22 oz. bottle of Serpent Stout. The other breweries were phenomenal as well. I loved the vibe at Lost Abbey, as you can just hang out at the bar and you're likely to just start talking to the random people around you who are also craft beer lovers. Stone Brewery is simply beautiful and cool, with fantastic food and amazing beer. Summer recommended the buffalo ribeye and beer mac and cheese, and both were excellent. Trust me that whether you just want a small private tour with a friend or two, or want to do a larger tour with a big group, you will never, ever find anyone better than Summer. My husband has been really interested in trying Brew Hop for a while now and so I surprised him for his Birthday. Summer (co-owner) was a great help organizing our party of six with just a weeks notice and limited time. When we arrived at Stone Brewery to meet Larz we had my husband close his eyes and then open them in front of the Navigator with the Brew Hop sign on the side. He was soooo excited and kept telling me what a great wife I was and that he could never top this for me, it was that awesome!! Which of course made me feel good, especially since I didn't have to do much work, just make a call to Summer who took care of everything! Larz was an awesome and very knowledgeable guide. He took us to 2 great breweries which no one had ever heard of, which made it even better as we got to try new and different brews from places we would of never considered. Hess was the first place and the owner made us feel so welcome and was very informative. I really liked their cream ale there which was a pleasant surprise for me as I'm not usually a big darker beer drinker, definitely the true reason we take these kinds of tours. The next stop was Ballast Point where we had a private tour in the back which was quite impressive and got to sample a couple of their beers. I really liked their wheat ale. After Larz saw what our favorites were, he made a point at suggesting other ones we may like to try, which was very helpful and appreciated, especially for those, like me who usually do not drink much beer - prefer wine. Our last stop was Stone Brewery for dinner which Summer had set up our dinner reservations and as we were unloading the Navigator, Larz went up to the front to let us know we had arrived to prepare our table for us. I cannot thank Summer and Larz enough for making me look so good and be so appreciated by my husband. Our friends all had a great time too and are all trying to plan when we have time to go again, and who's birthday we will celebrate next with a Brew Hop. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company and tour to anyone and everyone (over 21 of course). They put together such a wonderful tour and were so knowledgeable and made it so easy and carefree for us that everyone got to enjoy theirselves.
