A tiny but nice little brewery that is nice when you want to grab a drink in the good weather. We ended up getting a hazy and it was pretty decent and was nice to have on a hot day. The staff was pretty friendly and the outdoor seating was nice for everyone that had dogs too. They ended up having a food truck pull up which is nice to have at any brewery. With our luck the generator for it was right next to us though so we left pretty quickly after that. Still nice to have and if we wanted to stay we could have found quieter spots. It seems like they are doing well for the tiny amount of space they have. On a nice day it seems like a great spot for a beer. read more

This brewery doesn't have food so you can bring your own. Sometimes there's food truck in front of the brewery. On the day I went there El Rancho Viejo was serving tacos and nachos. I bought El pastor tacos $8 for 2 fresh from the tromping. Very delicious with chopped pineapple. The guy at the brewery was friendly and let me try some beer. Love their beers! I only started coming here during the pandemic, so I've only had their beer to-go. They specialize in super tasty IPAs, but do a wide range of other beers and ciders. I've never had a beer from here that I didn't enjoy. Their cans are 16oz and have the cutest label designs! It seems like their only releasing a beer or two at a time in cans, so options are fairly limited. You can always get a growler filled with what's on draft! The process of ordering online and pick up is super quick and easy. They have a contactless system and it works efficiently. The single television was playing looped video of bicyclists doing tricks, and the exposed brick walls were complimented by an audience of plants and simple tables. Bring your board games, bring your card deck, bring your friends and some snacks, and Brewery ARS can be your hang. If I lived closer, this is the type of place I'd visit regularly. Hands down, the best brewery in the city. The place is quite small, so if you are going on peak hours, be patient and be happy with a small space to occupy while you enjoy some beers. You can find street parking too, so that is a plus. They offer a nice variety of styles and their hoppy stuff is on point. 8oz. pours are a plus and on more days than not, they'll have some cans to take home too. It will only be 1 or 2 offerings. The people are usually top notch. This one individual lady became possessed when I didn't tip on the cc machine. She slammed my refill down on the table and glared at me with her arms crossed like a petulant child. Her behavior was reprehensible and unbecoming of someone who is in the service industry. Therefore, she got a tip commensurate to her behavior- no tip. 5 stars for the incredible forward thinking beers and top notch brewery experience, yet knocked down to 4 for the small scale size and somewhat wonky hours. Overall though Brewery ARS is a whimsical showcase of what happens when two crafty brothers with a penchant for home brewing with fresh ingredients channel that passion into opening a microbrewery. Whether you love strong and hoppy ipas and stouts, or lean towards saisons and Belgian style ales, you'll find plenty of eclectic brews. And with a flight just costing $8 for four, its possible to enjoy several without breaking the bank. In the past I've been won over by the Ashland porter w/ BBQ sauce, the Artique saison with simcoe hops, the super strong Simpleton Belgian tripel and others. But their selection rotates on the regular, always includes at least one cider from Kurant, and they always know how to throw a good party for a new brew release. If Brewery ARS just had a larger location they'd be able to have a more consistent food menu and be open for longer than 4 days. But at the same time it wouldn't be the quirky neighborhood garage brewery with endless West Passyunk charm if it had those things. And its things like the new brew releases, and nights that they play host to a BBQ food truck that make it well worth the somewhat out of the way visit. read more

Brewery ARS opened fairly recently in South Philly. Pam S. suggested it as a good UYE location and about a month later, a nice-sized group of us piled in. To note: - The brewery is small. I assume depending on the time of your visit, it could be tough to find a place to sit...especially as it grows in popularity. - It's extra good if you're already in the area. It was a bit of a trek for me. - There seems to be rotating food selections. The bbq smells insanely good. - Flights are $8. Bus your own table. If I lived in the area, I'm sure I'd be a frequent flyer. Alas, I don't but I can say I enjoyed my flight for the most part. There was no variety in selection since it's a very small operation still. I was able to try: - Clymer: Wheat saison - good hop kick - Ashland: Really nicely done porter - Déjà Goûté: Super super hoppy - World's Apart: Relatively hoppy -- not as in-your-face as the aforementioned sample I'm sure the brothers will continue to create good brews moving forward. Brewery ARS is home to my favorite beer in the city! My friend and I came here on a Thursday night and got an indoor table. I wanted to try a bunch of different beers so I ended up getting a flight with 4 different ones. The beers were so tasty that I ended up getting a second flight to be able to try 4 additional ones! My absolute favorite of the evening was the Showy Spikes (farmhouse ale/saison). It was light and refreshing with the perfect amount of spice. I also really enjoyed the Holy Ghost (pale ale), Rest Easy (IPA), and the Lavish (IPA). There was a food truck parked outside so we got a margherita pizza to accompany our beers. I can't wait to come back and try a few new beers as well as drink some old favorites! read more

Such a cute brewery that has so much character! The place was very full (all tables were taken) when we arrived. Everyone seemed to be locals who knew the staff very well and it felt like a local spot. My boyfriend and I had heard about Brewery ARS and had been meaning to stop by for sometime. 2.5 Stars. I guess I didn't like ARS as much as the other reviewers. I gave the excellent and nearby Second District Brewing 4.5 stars and ARS just doesn't compare favorably. The brewery reminds me of my grandmothers kitchen. An old wooden table with old metal chairs and a little XMAS tree and plant on the table. The room when you enter is very small and there's a smaller side room where they brew the beer. The place looked old and dingy. Thought it was odd there was no table service. You have to go to a small counter to get your beer. They had about 8-10 beers on tap if I remember correctly. Staff were friendly. I ordered a beer flight and a separate pint. The beers were all average in my opinion - I rated all between 2.5 - 3.25 on untapped. With so many excellent breweries in the Philadelphia area, ARS just isn't worth the trip. Excellent beer - I'm so happy to have this brewery nearby! I have never been in non-COVID times, but they have a great set up for pick-up/carry out orders. We took home the West Coast IPA, the Penny Candy hazy IPA (by far my favorite, and a top 5 IPA for me of all time-- high praise!) & the Belgian pale ale. Love this local south philly brewery! Their draft rotation is top quality and varied, with a lovely mix of IPA's, darker brews, and the occasional saison/farmhouse ale. Their $10 growler deal on Wednesday's can't be beat! My partner and I have been making sure to support them during the craziness of COVID-19 quarantine by ordering at least one six pack or growler a week via pick-up. I also really like their price points. Some places will charge more or less money depending on the ABV of a certain beer, but ARS keeps everything consistent by only charging depending on how many ounces of beer you order, no matter what beer you get. Nothing like Flying Fishes expansive new brewery in Brewerytown and they have about as much selection as Frankford Hall. Pros: they have a variety of sizes which you can pick and choose from. Another brewery in a Philadelphia in a booming beer metropolis is always a welcomed sight. Brewery ARS is the first that I'm aware of in South Philly and was an easy Lyft ride away. The space itself was pretty small and very relaxed. It almost reminded me of a lodge of sorts. You need to head up to the bar to order, pay and bus your own beverages. During my visit during the recent UYE, there were only four beers on tap so it might flight selection very easy. The beers were all solid but nothing really standout. I tried a saison (Clymer), a hippy Belgian (Deja Goute), a pale ale (Worlds Apart) and a porter (Ashland). I did enjoy drinking them in the relaxed environment. They had a BBQ-oriented food menu that looked delicious and was reasonably priced, but unfortunately I didn't partake. I'm not sure if food is always available. As I love to support the local beer scene, I would absolutely return and look forward to seeing this brewery get better and better. read more

Ok, here is an actual real review... Decent place on the non-hip side of Passyunk. It's tiny, maybe nine tables and a five foot long bar. The night we went in they had three beers on tap, two saisons and a porter. All three were decent, with one of the saisons standing out. They have several more beers coming out, and I look forward to trying them. Both the owners/brewers were welcoming and friendly. Beers available in several pour sizes with pints being about $6. Only food available is Goldfish or peanuts. I'm in the area often, so I look forward to trying out new beers as they come out. The location isn't ideal, but it'll do. I really loved Brewery ARS on my first visit a month or so ago. My brother and SIL were in town so we did a family/friends night out and there was a group of about ten of us bouncing around. ARS was our second stop and I think we spent more time there than anywhere else. The beers were fresh and crisp. I don't drink craft beer very often anymore, but when I do I like west coast style pale ales and IPAs. So if you dig that style, you'll probably really enjoy much of the selection here. The tasting room is definitely small but we lucked out during our Saturday night visit. We had mostly standing room to begin but by the time we closed the place down there were plenty of open tables. I'd recommend going during an off time if you want to grab a seat and relax. Otherwise, grab a brew and make some friends! read more

Great beer and very reasonably priced? Brewery ARS has found the formula to winning over new regulars. My friend and I decided to do a beer tour of south Philly and started here. As we walked up, we saw what appeared to be a chilli competition happening on the sidewalk right in front of the brewery. People crowded the store front and inside, but we were able to make our way inside to order. The place is very modest and seating is limited. Their beer options are outlined on their blackboard menu. Their Sweet Trepidation imperial stout was perfect for the chilly late afternoon and their ales were also great. If we could have gotten a table, a flight would have been great since they have so many options to try. We will definitely be back to see if we have any more luck. read more

Cute little brewery on a part of Passyunk that is in desperate need of more places like ARS! I tried a flight, which I think is the best way to taste-test beer. I really enjoyed the cider, but didn't care for the other beers I got (but I still drank them!) I wish they would have some way of marking which beer is what on the tasting sampler, because by the time I sat down, I had already forgotten which beer was which. I'll admit it. As a South Philly dweller, I was getting jealous of Fishtown, Kensington, and Brewerytown with all of their shiny new breweries. Have no fear, my South of South friends, we now have a brewery to call our own. Brewery ARS has four rotating drafts. A sampler of 4-ounce pours will set you back $8. The Brothers Arsenault who run the place were both there on my visit and were both very kind (plus some sibling ribbing made me nostalgic for my parents' house). This spot is small, but my friend and I were able to sit and sample right away. I like all of my beers - a hoppy saison and a very black coffee tasting porter are the ones that stick out looking back. Food is served even in the winter through a window inside the establishment. I have been excited about Brewery Ars opening up since last year, and finally had a chance to get there this past weekend with my girlfriend. Ars is a small/intimate brewery in South Philly. They have a decent amount of tables inside, also a few outside when the weather is nice. They have 4 beers on tap and usually will rotate them. A 4oz pour is 2 bucks, so it is cool to try all four before committing to a pint. The beers were very good, especially the Ashland! My girlfriend and I decided to grab some grub. We decided to get some Jalapeno chips as a snack. The chips were really good as a way of holding us over before dinner. They were very crispy and spicy. The lime aioli was also complimented the chips well. This is a very cool place to grab a drink and some simple food. I need to come back here me often, and hopefully get a growler filled! read more

Cool little spot. Let me emphasize little. There probably isn't seating and/or staff to accommodate much more than 30 - 40 people. When I went on a lazy Sunday afternoon, both brewery owners/brewmasters were there and they were serving the beers. Cool experience to meet them and talk beer. Mostly out of the way unless you live close by but there is easy street parking available. I didn't love the beers but they were well crafted. I think the hop profile these two brothers prefer just isn't to my liking. I was more excited for the upcoming beers (not available yet) than the ones they had listed. I moved to this area about a year ago, and apparently that's when Brewery ARS was born! I had never walked past it till recently, it's a very cute, hole in the wall brewery. It's rustic inside, and with s cozy atmosphere. There are mason jars next to a big water jug to stay hydrated (I don't know why I love this concept so much every gimme I see it!) there are board games to play. You can see the big basins with beer in them. The staff is. Dry friendly, and will let you sample any beers. The beers are so cheap too! I love that they have a flight of 4 beers, if you don't want to settle for just one. They also sell two sizes of growlers if you want to take some home. It's small in there, with one co-ed bathroom. My fiancé and I are big fans of ARS after visiting for the first time for their sour beer event and collaboration with Highway Manor.
