Pretty cool spot for a quick beer or glass of cider. They only had one gluten free option on the menu which was the cider and it was pretty unique compared to other ciders I've tried. Unlike the sugar bombs I'm used to, this cider was nice and dry and refreshing. I liked it. They also have food here if you get hungry, although I didn't try any myself. You can take cans to go which my boyfriend did because he's obsessed with their beer. If you know someone who is a beer lover, I'd recommend stopping by especially if you're visiting from out of town. read more

Human Robot is a craft brewery that opened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in January 2020. It was founded by business partners Ken Correll, Chris Roller and Jake Atkinson. When they decided to open their new brewery, the trio found a location in Philly's Kensington neighborhood that had served as St. Benjamin's Brewing for a number of years. The partners hired Andrew Foss to be their head brewer; he had previously served as St. Benjamin's brewer for three years. The name "Human Robot" was chosen as a nod to the electronic duo Daft Punk. It reflects how half of the brewery's beers are lagers (human) while the other half are IPAs, sours and stouts (robots). Although they brew a variety of styles, Human Robot has become most well-known for their high-quality lagers. Human Robot has became the fastest growing brewery brand in Philadelphia. A second location (dubbed "The Haus") opened in Jenkintown in 2022, a third opened in Schuylkill Banks in 2023 (relocated to Brewerytown in 2025), a fourth (dubbed "Süd") opened in South Philly in 2023, and a fifth (dubbed "Doubles") opened in New Hope in 2025. I recently visited Human Robot's original location while my family and I were on a short trip to Philadelphia. I had heard a lot of great things about them in the past few years and was very excited to visit. I first had to get a pour of their signature "Milktube" (Czech Amber Lager). It is traditionally served with a "mlíko" (or "milk") pour, which gives it a thick, creamy foam appearance. Human Robot has popularized a version which is served in a tall, tube-shaped stange glass. I enjoyed it the recommended way... by chugging it. It helps to appreciate the hoppy aroma of the foam. It was almost like a delicious beer milkshake. I also enjoyed pours of "Czech 10°" (Czech Pale Lager) and "Tammy 13°" (Czech Dark Lager). Human Robot also has an on-site kitchen called Poe's Sandwich Joint. For lunch, I had the "Mushman" (chicken cutlet, house marinara, fresh basil, shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan), my wife had the "Seoulgirl" (Korean fried chicken topped w/ Kitty's homemade kimchi slaw, drizzled honey, spicy gochujang aioli and cilantro), and our sons shared the "Loaded Fries" (house smoked whiz, bacon, chopped scallions). The food, like the beer, was also fantastic! I also purchased a four-pack of "Collective: Citra & Peacharine" (New England IPA) to take home. To start with the obvious, the beer was great. My friend and I each got original milktube pours as well as a tank pour (he got the Czech 10 and I got the Hallertau). All were great. We also got food from the food stand inside the taproom. I asked them to go off menu and had them make a chopped chicken sandwich with provolone and garlic sauteed peppers. Amazing. As for the taproom itself, it was small but workable. Though there was available seating outside and the weather was great, the music inside (alternative and punk) was perfect, so we ate and drank inside. To sum it up, it's a great place, with an unpretentious comfortable setting, great music, great beer, and great food. Good people, too. read more

Was looking forward to checking out this brewery, had a couple of their beers at events and they were decent. Took an Uber from Downtown Philly to show up with my wife and son to find out they don't allow anyone under 21 after 2pm. It's a private business they can do what they want, but that's a bit over the top. I could see limiting kids at night, but 2pm....lame. We've traveled the world for beer and it's 1 of 2 places I've been that is this ridiculous. It was 4pm and we weren't allowed in, 4pm!!! So, we sat outside in 30 degree weather to have a 1/2 a beer and went to Other Half Brewing. Human Robot is just too kewl. Excellent selection and variety of beers and yes, you must try the "original" Milktube. Sounds/looks crazy, but a great experience (and tradition from the history lesson we were given by the staff. I'll be honest. I'm not much of a lager person, but I got a good meal and a unique experience out of Human Robot, so I liked it. I usually go for sours and ciders. Here, I just decided to give the milk tube (just a taste of the famous milk pour the brewery is known for) a try. It didn't taste that different from the other lagers I've tried, but it did have a unique texture thanks to the foam. I've come here multiple times for the sandwiches, which riff on the typical Italian and chicken cutlet sandwiches. It's just enough that I feel like I'm getting a unique combo I wouldn't have tried on my own. Human Robot is a traditional brewery but they have a few unique features that make them stand out. There is usually a steady flow of folks sitting at the bar with can and bottle options as well. I've patronized this place a few times and have always been met by a helpful staff. For an outdoor experience, they have outdoor seating, you can walk up on the sidewalk order at the outdoor window and grab an outdoor seat. What also draws me to this place is their connection to sunflower park across the street. They have sponsored events and supplied beverages for those events as well. You can order a beverage and head to the park to enjoy it. They also share a space with Poe's sandwiches although they are separate companies, they share the same space. Orders are made separately online but you can have both beverages and food and then enjoy the park. read more

Well I have a fascination with robots long with space ships and dragons. And as anyone can see I'm a humongous brewery fan so it was not even a moment of hesitancy to go try Human Robot. Steve and I got one beer here. It was the Hallertau Pils. A German style pilsner which was very enjoyable and perfect for the warm day we had to partake with this pilsner. With a grainy and yeasty flavor this pilsner proved to be an enjoyable one. And with a heavy fondness towards robots. it was simply a no brainer that I picked up a t shirt to go representing this brewery later on down the road. read more

Cool place with neat decor. If you don't have you Vax card, you can only sit outside, there is a small order window you can order from. They don't have flights but you can try some small samples. We ordered the Sommerbock which was a very good summer beer, very light and easy to drink. They do have some sandwiches you can order as well from a separate business. Great ambiance - such a lively vibe, great service, a nice selection of beers and ciders (and more). Throw in some tasty sandos from Poe's on-site and you have a pretty darn good experience! Sandwiches were tasty as heck. And there was definitely something for everyone. We opted for the commish cutlet and the splatter (an Italian hoagie). Perfect meat to bread ratio scored some major points with me. I can't believe it took us so long to make it here. That's my only complaint. I first discovered vraft beer around here when I was living in Philadelphia, so when I was up here visiting and came across this cool bar with a cool name, it was a great to find a quality place for quality beer. Philadelphia is also known for their great food and again, these sandwiches do not disappoint. The vibe of the place is definitely cool. Service is good and they have a great selection of beers to choose from. I must also say that I am digging the concept of the brewery and the name that this business has chosen to embrace. I've been slowly watching Human Robot Brewing morph into the space it is today over the past couple of months (via picking up sandwiches from the ever amazing Poe's Sandwich Joint) but I'm stoked to witness their grand opening next weekend (February 6-9th 2020). My boyfriend and I stopped by last night to try some of their beers and grab sandwiches. I'm not too familiar with that area, but Human Robot is located in the former St. Benjamin BrewCo building on North 5th right next to the Ribbon Factory apartments for reference-- a short ways off from Fishtown in Olde Kensington(?) but well worth the trip (especially since NDA Poe is running the kitchen operation). Seeing as I'm not too familiar with the area I'd suggest driving over or catching a quick Uber. Parking is tight-ish in the direct vicinity, but if you go around the block or down the street you should be good. I've always found a spot close by so that shouldn't be an issue (or maybe it will be once this place blows up in popularity, haha). We tried the Twiki Tweaks IPA hopped with Simcoe and Citra with notes of Tangerine and the My Machine Don't Download which is brewed on a pillowy base of Pilsner and hopped with Denali featuring notes of pineapple. Both were banging juicy, hazy, IPA's that I've come to really appreciate. The space in which HRB occupies features exposed brick on the wall to the right, and concrete high tops that add to their sleek industrial vibe. Clean white tile work frames the left wall where the taps are located bringing the eyes immediately to a large arched mirror that backs the bar. This focal piece is dually framed in a large black arch in a V pattern, making the room look larger and spacious. Through the windows to the back, you can see the vats and tanks of the brewery itself which is as interesting as it is functional. As I said earlier, Poe's Sandwich Joint operates the kitchen, and they're located to the back right, visible through a counter like window. Dine in and take out options are available. Overall I think these guys have really great potential in the Philly Beer scene and can't wait for the future of this dynamic duo. read more
